Somewhere ElseSomewhere, beneath the flesh of the Earth, there was a cave. And in this cave, dark deeds, deeds that should never be spoken of, never performed in the light of day, had been done. In the center of the cave stood a stone basic, magically wrought from the cave floor itself. It was filled with a dark liquid, and on the surface of the liquid was the image of whatever he wished to see. His features were severe, but a grim, evil smirk twisted his lips as he scryed. Everything was going according to his designs. His swarm spread, as a plague of locusts, devouring all in their path. Aid had been asked for. His minions were mindless, and untraceable. All worked according to his well. As it should, for the rightful ruler of the planet. He focused, then, on the village of Bansho's Rest, and on the group of recently arrived martial artists. It was time to see what strength their was in the world of Earthlings to resist his might...
Takenoko stood, watching over the people of Bansho's Rest. His grey gi clung to his muscular frame, and the Turtle School's emblem stood out starkly, marking him as a disciple for any that knew what to look for. Since the elders of the Turtle School had gathered the beleaguered people of the Southern Villages at Bansho's Rest, Takenoko had slept less and less, giving more thought to to what must be done. Most of the ravening horde of mutant Saibamen were gathered at Kami's Ridge, a short travel to the East, but he simply could not go himself and leave the people undefended. Many members of their order were busy with other activities, as well. Hopefully, people would soon be responding to their call for help, and Takenoko could direct whatever brave souls arrived to the little monsters and rid the land of them. All he could do now, however, was wait.

The chugging and roaring of a motorcycle announced Shell’s presence long before he was actually there. The dust cloud kicked up in its wake trailed behind him. Thankfully the Turtle School hadn’t set up downwind. The Namekian let the bike idle to a stop, swinging his legs over the side and spotting the man in the grey gi. He likely wasn’t what the man was expecting. Shell’s skin was a deep teal color, he had bony horns instead of antenna, and one arm looked chitinous and demonic. Fangs were evident in his mouth when he talked, and his voice was gruff, if still youthfully high pitched. It would get deeper over the centuries. Surely this guy was expecting other martial artists, or even saiyan warriors, to answer his call. The Prince of all Namekians, well, that would just be a bonus for him, if he could get past his own prejudice.
“They tell me you have a problem with ravenous mutants,” Shell said simply, tapping the motorcycle. The entire thing vanished in a puff of smoke, leaving a capsule behind that he tucked into the sash of the loose-fitting clothing that enables him to fight with impunity. He’d acquired it just south, from the same people who told him to come help these people. The Desert Wolf Motorcycles was turning out to be surprisingly useful, if they kept giving him tips like these. “These mutants aren’t any of ours, to my knowledge. And left unchecked, they pose a threat to citizens of Daimao’s empire.” This was Shell’s test. Would this Turtle School idiot work with a demon clan namekian, knowing that he was helping Daimao? Or would he turn him away? “I’ll slay them. Find the source if I can.”

A cloaked figure trotted down the road at a steady pace, dust lazily swirled through the air behind him before it eventually settled back to the earth. The figure topped a rise and stopped, looking down at the village of Bansho's Rest through the heatwaves emanating from the desert sands. He'd heard there had been trouble here, something to do with mutants... something he could probably help to stop. He took a long drink from his water bottle, sighed in satisfaction as the water eased the dryness that felt like it was choking him, then replaced it. It was time to get down there and see what he could find out. Cade arrived in town a short time after and began by asking around for more information on their troubles. Everyone told him the same thing, "Go and find Master Takenoko, he will tell you what you need to know." Following their directions, he soon arrived to the older man's location to find him talking with a Namekian. He approached and gave them a casual wave before giving Takenoko a quick but respectful bow, "Hey there, Master Takenoko, mister namekian. Name's Cade, Cade Kendrick. I heard you all had some troubles with some mutants or some such thing, so I came to help kick their rear parts up around their ears for ya." Making her way through the desert had become second nature to Caffey at this point. That didn’t mean she enjoyed the heat, or the sun, or the sand, of course. But she’d been born here, and as long as she had a map and some idea where she was going, she could find her way without much trouble. The Cobra School had taught all of its students how to navigate their environment, should they even need to defend the outlying villages, and she’d taken to that as easily as she took to most teachings. Likewise, the teachings of defending and protecting any people who call the desert home was a central founding idea within Caaffey’s mind. Thus, when she heard about trouble of the violent sort in the village of Bansho’s Rest, she had quietly dropped everything and made her way through the desert towards the village. She could finally see the village in the distance, and felt a sense of relief. She was used to the desert, but traveling on foot as she so often did was still an exhausting endeavor, and she looked forward to a moment of respite before she, and whoever else had already arrived, set out to protect the innocent people of the desert. As she slowed from the super-human run to a more normal, average speed, she took a drink from her water bottle. As she finally made her way into the town, she untied her jacket from her waist, donning it once again. She was about to act as a Cobra Master, so she’d make sure she looked the part. She quickly found the people she was looking for. Her finely tuned senses found their power long before she saw them, though the village was small enough that she’d have found them quickly enough regardless. She approached with her usual friendly enthusiasm, and bowed to the Turtle Disciple awaiting her. She looked to the others who had gathered, giving a friendly wave to them, before introducing herself. “ Hey! I heard you were having some kind of trouble with uh… Mutants or something? I don’t remember, but I know it was a violent threat to the people who live here! I’m Caffey, I’m a Master of the Cobra School! How can I help?” As if to illustrate her point, she briefly turned around, showing the Cobra emblem emblazoned on the back of her jacket.

A decently tall figure slowly made her way towards the small village of Bansho's Rest. The rays of the bright, burning sun gleamed on chiseled muscles, as the young female made her way towards her destination in the desert heat. She idly thought about her means of travel as she stepped through the sandy floor of the desert, taking in another gulp of water from the bottle filled with the clear, cool liquid. Eventually, she had begun to see the group of houses in the distance. Normally, this wasn't something she would be inclined to do, however, the prospect of fighting for what was right overpowered her regular neutral mindset. The people were in trouble, and something unnatural was happening. Seriously, mutant Saibamen? Something or someone must've grown these creatures, and either that thing directed them, or the Saibamen went awol. Either way, she was going to get to the bottom of this, but first things first, Bansho's Rest needed to be paid a visit. As she stepped foot into the village, she took one final swig of the water before putting it out of sight inside of the backpack she wore. Seeing the people milling about, she searched for an individual who bore a certain symbol. Sure enough, she spotted the group and was momentarily stunned. The first thing that failed to escape her line of sight other than Takenoko, was the Namekian. The very same Namekian she had fought weeks ago. Why was he here? She knee that there would be other martial artists, but not him. He had gotten considerably stronger since the last time she encountered the green demon, so, that's a plus. However, she had expected to meet open hostility once she had made herself known to the group. It would be awkward, since she had carelessly neglected to care for him once their bout was over. He looked fine however, so Ahri shrugged off the feeling and approached the group of warriors. "Hey, I believe I heard that you have some trouble with a couple of Saibamen?"She cast a sideways glance at the Namek as she finished speaking, almost completely disregarding the other two fighters. She wondered if he remembered who she was, although she would be surprised if he failed to recognize her.

At Shell's words, Takenoko raised an eyebrow. The man was middle aged, with short hair and a full, though well groomed, beard. Streaks of grey intruded on his temples and flecked his beard, giving him a salt and pepper look. His face was too careworn for him to be called handsome, but a light, be it wisdom or serenity or something else, shone in his eyes, bespeaking a fierce vitality.
"While I do not hold with the self styled Demon King, or the practices of many that follow him," Takenoko said slowly, considering his words even as he spoke, "I welvome any that would seek to assist us in these times. Do no harm to the innocent, and we shall get along just fine, Namekian."
To the rest of you, Takenoko is warmer, more welcoming.
"Ah, I see we have some locals here! It is always heartening when our neighbors, our fellow men and women, come to the aid of their fellows. Be welcome, and be at your ease. All of you, please, follow me and I will tell you all I can."
Takenoko motions for you to follow him, then ducks into a small, simple house. It's quite modest, with only three rooms; a dining area that included a kitchen, a bathroom, and a bedroom. It's a bit cramped in there with all of you, but you do manage to make it to the dining area. There is a circular table with six chairs. Takenoko motions for you to take a seat, if you desire, then sits down himself.
"To business, then. We're not sure where they came from. They first appeared in the eastern villages, near Toshi Ranbo. They just... appeared, as if by magic. If you're not familiar with Saibamen... they come from another planet. They are genetically engineered life forms. They start as seeds; I know it sounds outlandish, but it is true. They spring from the ground and generally serve whoever planted them. I'm not certain, but I believe possessing their seeds forms some bond that imprints them upon their planter. I am not entirely sure whether or not they are... fully sentient, for lack of a better term. They do possess animal cunning, but I do not know if, on their own, they possess any true sapience. Any intelligence or capacity for learning or culture. They are powerful, at least in comparison to a baseline Earthling. Several of you feel strong enough to easily defeat a few Saibamen. However, these are... different."
Takenoko folded his hands and frowned. "These Saibamen have, for the most part, ignored anyone who did not directly get in their way. They have merely been, essentially, raiding farms and storehouses. They are consuming crops at an alarming rate, which is... well, I don't know that I've ever known a Saibaman to eat before. They are not meant to exist overlong, I think, or require much in the way of upkeep. They are meant to be disposable shock troops, nothing more.
A few of them were killed by some of our disciples when evacuating villagers. They reported that, once enough damage had been done, the Saibamen... well, they said melted. As disturbing as it sounds, it sounds like they're sort of... sloughing apart when they're killed. I've never heard of anything like it. I know that's disturbing, and I'm sorry to leave a task such as slaying these creatures to you, but... if I were to leave, the villagers would be vulnerable.
Some of you may be motivated by more than altruism. I do not fault you for this. I can promise you that should you perform well, you will be amply rewarded. If you agree to this task, we will furnish you with supplies. Toshi Ranbo is a day's journey to the East."

Cade looked at the others who had answered the call. A namekian who was receiving a stare down from the last woman who had showed up, a rather tall woman, at least 5 inches taller than himself. Then there was the Master of the Cobra School, a school he was unfamiliar with. She moved like a warrior though. At the elder's behest, he followed the man into the small home and took a seat to the older man's right hand. He listened patiently as the elder told them of the mutant Saibamen and their odd behavior. Almost like someone is trying to either chase these people away from this land... or to provoke them into sending for defenders for some reason. Cade wasn't sure why they would want that... maybe as a test to someone's science project gone wrong. He wrinkled his nose up a bit as he listened to the part about them melting and then raised his hand and asked, "So... when they get all melted-like, are the puddles dangerous or is it just gross?"After getting his answer and listening to what the others had to say, he stood and bowed to Tanenoko, "We will do our best to help you and the people here. We'll go outside and see what we need to do to get started."
Gathering his stuff back up and rearranging his cloak, he walked out on the street and turned to the others, "Allright, if we're gonna be workin' together, might as well get introduced up and such then get a plan together. Name's Cade Kendrick, I am from here in the south and I am a master of the Jaguar school martial arts. I'm from a little speck of a place called Burgamont. Mostly grew corn and dirt. Ahri averted her eyes from the Namekian demon as Takenoko beckoned all of the warriors present to follow him into a small house. Ahri followed, entering the tiny, humble abode. Taking a seat, she listened intently to what the man had to say. Apparently, the trouble had all started near a place called Toshi Ranbo, where the Saibamen first began appearing. The man explained to the others what Saibamen were, however, Ahri knew a decent amount of things about them already. She had been doing a lot of reading in her childhood days whenever she wasn't training hard. They were creatures that tended to follow the will of the planter, but Ahri wasn't completely sure if Saibamen could experience real emotions. When Takenoko stated that several of them could easily defeat a couple Saibamen, Ahri took the time to focus on the power of the fighters around her. She was surprised that she was currently the strongest person who had answered the call for help, although there was always the chance that they were suppressing their power levels. Takenoko had continued to speak, talking about what exactly the Saibamen were doing. Ahri had never heard of a Saibaman eating before, but maybe they were simply attempting to dispose of the crops. Something was wrong, something was terribly wrong, and the four warriors in the room other than Takenoko, were chosen to stop it. Eventually, the Turtle School fighter had finished speaking, directing them to go towards Toshi Ranbo, which was a mere day's journey away. Satisfied, Ahri left the building with the others, as the only human male of the group spoke. He introduced himself as Cade Kendrick, master of the Jaguar School Of Martial Arts. Ahri replied to him once he was finished talking. "You can all call me A.I., I came from a rather lavish place from the west, and I've been travelling around a bit."She took the time to listen to the other fighters if they had chosen to speak, then she spoke again. "Well, since we're done here, I guess that we should get outta here. Come on, the man said a day, maybe we can make it to Toshi in less than a day."With that, she started down the path leading outside of the village, not waiting for the others or slowing down. She came here to finish a job, and that was exactly what she was going to do.

”Shell,” he corrected, not namekian. “And why would I hurt the innocent?” he asked with a strange sort of ‘what do you think I am?’ in his voice. The Great Desert wasn’t Daimao’s kingdom. Nobody here owed him fealty or protection money. Unless someone offered direct insult to him or was planning his execution or something that would make Shell honor-bound to kill them...he had no reason to hurt people. And if he did kill someone under those circumstances they would no longer be ‘innocent’ now, would they? “Perhaps you understand less and less of Daimao’s kingdom than you believe. Your Turtle School would do better to approach it with an open mind. Instead of assuming I’m an unhinged killing machine.” Then, because Shell was Shell, he added, cheerfully, “I only kill when I have a purpose.”
Shell went to move past the turtle man, but then paused, because he was staring at the woman who had challenged him outside the city a few weeks ago. He let the ghost of a smile caress his features, a fang poking free of his lips. That fight had been...eye-opening. Shell immediately knew she was the strongest person here. He could feel it even if he didn’t know first-hand how terrifying she was. It was only after the spar with her did he discover she was who Zam referred to as “Oni” or “Demon”. To think they both fought her within hours of each other, and both ended up unconscious and with fond lessons from the encounter.
At her comments about calling her A.I., Shell chuckled out loud. “I’d rather call you Oni,” he said, letting her know she was remembered, “No Saibaman can stand to you, not after what I’ve seen.” Shell turned to the other two, jerking a clawed thumb at Ahri, “She’s terrifying, don’t let the cute exterior fool you. As long as we stick close to her this’ll be a breeze.”
“As for me,” he continued to the man’s commentary, starting to step after the demon warrior in human form, “My name is Shell. No surname, we don’t typically need them. If it isn’t immediately obvious by my exterior, I’m from the North, Piccolo Daimao’s seat of power.” Shell paused for a moment, debating how much to tell these people. Daimao was loved little and less down south, and some people would stir to fight just for knowing his parentage. So he brooked the safer bet. “Like all of my relatives, I was birthed by Daimao, a soldier to his army and protector of his interests.” Shell decided that was close enough to the truth. All Demon Clan Namekians were born by Daimao. Nobody needed to know he was groomed as the Prince of the Demon Lands. “I’ve since sought my own future, and warmer weather. I hate wearing heavy coats.” Shell grinned a little at his tiny joke, which was also true. He had sought his own path forward, but it was a path to taking Daimao’s throne for himself. Not the altruistic ‘find my own way’ he was leading them to believe. Not exactly a lie. Not entirely the truth.
He resisted summoning the motorcycle in his belt. It didn’t seem right to zip on ahead of them if they were supposed to be working together. So he stepped up beside her and walked, making small talk. “So, you’ve definitely pumped up since I last saw you. Leave anyone else unconscious on the side of a road to get that way?” His tone was light and conversational. He had no hard feelings about her running off. He hadn’t been seriously injured, outside of being knocked out.

Namekians weren’t unheard of in the Great Desert, but Caffey herself had never met one. Thus, the one who had just introduced himself as Shell fascinated her. She’d heard about the strange beings in the dojo, and had heard that years before she’d been born the Cobra School had hosted a singular Namekian student, who had long since left by the time Caffey was old enough to join the school. She looked him up and down. Predictably, he had a significant height advantage over the Cobra Master, but she refused to feel intimidated by his presence. She was absolutely fascinated, despite the menacing aura Shell gave off, and the knowledge that he apparently served Piccolo Daimao. This was exactly what she’d wanted when she left the dojo, to find new things and meet new, unique people. She was so caught up looking at the Namekian that she barely registered the words from the other two members of the group, but quickly refocused on them. “ I’m Caffey! I come from kind of the middle of nowhere, in the desert, from the Cobra School of Martial Arts! We uh, mostly just exist on farming. Enough to keep the villages fed, anyways. But! All of us in the school spent our whole lives learning martial arts! I’m a Master too! I’d love to talk to you about your Jaguar School sometime!” She gave Cade a deep bow, showing him the respect that a master, even one of a different art, deserved. She looked to A.I. with a bit of confusion, “ That’s a pretty unique name. But! I’m happy to be working with you anyways! Especially if you’re as strong as you look, or as strong as this guy says you are![/font]” Caffey reached behind her, tying her hair up into her usual ponytail as she spoke. “ We don’t want to waste any time, right? The longer we sit around here, the less likely we can make it today, like A.I. said. We should get ready to head out soon.”

At your question, Cade, Takenoko shrugs offhandedly. "As far as we know, it's not toxic or caustic, so... just gross, I think."
To you, Shell, Takenoko inclines his head apologetically. "Shell it is. You are quite right, I am not familiar with the realm of the Demon King. I do not believe I would be particularly welcome there. Nevertheless, you are quite right that I should not judge others simply on where they are from. What I know of history does give me pause, but I intend no offense. You and your assistance are welcome here, Shell."
Takenoko then furnishes you all with supplies. You are all given a backpack, inside of which are the necessities; small tents, sleeping bags, canteens full of clean water, and enough food for the journey to and back from Toshi Ranbo. Takenoko and some of the villagers bid you farewell, and then, you are off.
The desert is not oppressively hot today, and the journey passes in relative ease, all of you conversing as you will. Once, in the distance, the party noticed a strange sight; a group of lizards were feasting on the carcass of a great black hawk. While animals feeding on carrion was hardly strange in and of itself, especially to any who had grown up in the desert, the lizards were notable because somehow, all of them were missing their tails.
Any attempt to draw close results in the lizards scattering in different direction with surprising alacrity.
After a full day of walking, night begins to fall. You could press on, if you wished, but pushing yourself without any rest might lead to fatigue. The desert is beginning to cool, and the stars begin twinkling in the darkening sky, blending with the dying sun and nascent moon to wash the land in brilliance as far as you can see.
What do you do?
Players; feel free to narrate and roleplay the travel throughout the day as you want. If as a group you decide you want to press on through the night, you can, but I will then require Resilience rolls from all of you (you would roll 1d100 plus your Resilience against a target difficulty determined by me). Failed rolls will result in penalties from fatigue.
You seem to be on track to arrive around mid-day tomorrow.

Cade bowed to AI as she introduced herself but paused for a few long moments after Shell introduced himself. He wasn't sure what to do with the information that before him stood a son of the demon king... though it sounded like he was trying to make his own way. Maybe in time, he would be the one to steer his people in a new direction. Finally he bowed to him as well. I'll work with him... but he bears watching. Seems to know AI... Oni? Too. Seems to be some sort of story there, maybe I can learn it later. He finally turned and bowed to the woman who introduced herself as a master of the Cobra School, "It is good to meet all of you, AI, Shell, and Caffey, I would certainly be open to discussing technique, I am always interested in learning more about different martial arts." He tightened the straps of the backpack Takenoko had thoughtfully provided and adjusted his cloak. Nodding towards AI as she started moving, "Guess we should get going. Toshi Ranbo is awaiting us and we shouldn't keep them waiting longer than necessary." Cade took off down the road after AI. The sun was beating down mercilessly on the road, but the cloak kept the worse of the heat off of him as he ran down the road with the others. The sand grabbed at his feet, like always, but he had learned to ignore it. In fact, now a days it seemed to grab less and less. Guess maybe I am getting stronger... Not a lot yet, but still, any extra strength is welcome. The day was actually pretty peaceful though strenuous; the only refreshment Cade took was the occasional drink from his water bottle. He made it a point to run beside each of his new companions for at least part of the day. In the morning he ran by AI as soon as he could catch up to her. As he fell into a rhythm he looked to her and asked, "So, who taught you to fight? And what's the deal with the Shell guy, you guys fight before or something?"
Later he ran by Shell in silence for a while before asking, "So, what's the deal with AI... I mean Oni is what you call her right? You guys fight or what? What was it like growing up in the north as a son of the Daimao?"He fell in with Caffey last, as she seemed like a buoyant personality who might be a lift after the potential dourness of the Daimao's son. Between breaths he asked, "So, what was it like growing up in the Cobra School? It sounds interesting, I grew up a farmer's son. What is your style based around?"
Night fell and they all stopped for a few moments to catch their breath and watch the last orange tinged pink fingers of the suns light crawl under the horizon. Looking to the others he raised his eyebrow, "Whelp, I think we should probably stop and rest for the night so we can fight fresh in the morning. If everyone else wants to continue on, we'' keep on truckin'. We should at least eat some chow before we run for the rest of the night though, don't you all think?" Inventory

It seemed that the Namek had indeed remembered who she was, although the name 'Oni' wasn't familiar to her. The demon Namek then proceeded to assure the other two fighters present that Ahri was the strongest here, although she didn't appreciate the use of the word 'cute'. True, when she was a child she may have been a bit of a flower, but as Ahri grew older, she began to become more aggressive, feeling that in order to properly finish the race of life, she'd have to be aggressive and assertive, though, not in an unpleasant way. The Namekian introduced himself as Shell, hailing from the north. He was tied to Piccolo Daimao, as most Namekians were, and declared that he was seeking his own path. Ahri didn't reject him joining the rest of the martial artists on their quest. If he wished to help, he may help. Caffey seemed like a energetic, positive girl, being a master of a school herself. Once acquaintances were made, the group of warriors left Bansho's Rest, heading straight towards Toshi Ranbo. Shell had ran ahead of the rest of the group to talk with Ahri, posing a question jokingly. Ahri uttered a little laugh, then spoke. "Eheh, I still feel a bit guilty for doing that, but the past is the past, I guess. You've gotten a lot stronger yourself. Looking toward to working with you."The burning sun had been shining its scorching rays on the earth, and Ahri already felt dissatisfied with the conditions. Either way, she had plenty of water, and the path they were taking was peaceful. Cade had been making small talk with everyone throughout the journey, starting with Ahri. She thought for a bit, and saw no reason to fib. "I was mostly taught by my mother, although my brothers taught me a thing or two as well... haven't seen them in a while... Shell? Yeah, we met while i was looking around the place for a powerful foe. We did fight, though he went down pretty easily."She thought back to her family, her background. She had neglected to check in on them in a long while now, maybe she would need to pay a visit to the West, eventually. Before long, the day came to a close as the night revealed itself, and Cade suggested they wait until the next morning to continue their journey. Now that he said that, Ahri did feel particularly hungry. She hadn't eaten since the beginning of the venture, and now was as good a time as ever to have some dinner. "Yeah, Cade. Let's set up camp for the night and have a good meal and rest."And with that, Ahri waited a little to see if anyone would object, seeing as how Toshi Ranbo was not that far.

Meeting new people was something Caffey treasured, especially people who were so strong. It seemed to her like she might be the weakest one here, which was a marked difference from everyone else she’d met since leaving the dojo. Every other circumstance had seen her a one of the strongest on the outside world, even when she wasn’t on top she was close. But this group… They were her new motivation for getting stronger. She had no trouble keeping pace with the others, unless they tried to pull away from her. She’d found that people had a tendency to do that when she started talking too much. Maybe her high-energy personality didn’t mix well with everyone. That was fine, she’d never had trouble making friends regardless. Eventually she made her way to Shell’s side, and tried to chat with him. She got the feeling he wasn’t going to be particularly talkative, but she wanted to try it anyways. “ So! You’re a Namekian, right? I’ve never seen one before! That’s so cool! What’s it like? How was growing up under the Daimao? Why come down here, I thought that Daimao didn’t have a hold down here?” The more she talked, the faster it got, the more she seemed like an overexcited child. When she sensed that she’d overstayed her welcome at his side, she moved back away from him. She considered trying to talk to A.I., but hesitated. She already felt like she’d tried the patience of one of her group members, and wasn’t particularly eager to do so with another one… Perhaps after they made camp for the night, she would try to talk to the other girl then. Later, Cade came up to talk to her. She greeted him with an excited, eager, and very wide smile. “ It was okay! It got boring, after a while. Seeing the same faces every day, knowing day in day out what’s going to happen. It was nice, for a while, but eventually I kind of just… Wanted a change. So! I left! Well, first I became a master, then they told me I could leave with no hard feelings, and come back whenever. So I did!” She smile even broader, her boundless energy showing through on her face. “ Cobra Style is all about speed and precision! Don’t hit harder, hit faster and smarter! Or, just faster. It depends on who you are, y’know? I tend to just hit faster, long flurries of blows, but I know a lot of other practitioners who are more about the mental part of it, picking out a weak point and trying to end the fight with only a few quick hits. I went more towards the other path, but both are great! One day, everyone will know who we are!” She neglected to mention the lack of Cobra School ki attacks, or that they had a rough understanding of how to utilize ki as a whole, since she intended on fixing that long before she returned to the dojo. As night fell, and Cade made a comment about stopping, Caffey was quick to emphatically agree. “ Oh yeah, you don’t want to travel around the desert at night. Trust me, we used to take two days to go between the villages and the dojo so we wouldn’t have to deal with any of the night time dangers. And there’s a lot of night time dangers. Plus, what if we get ambushed by the Saibamen? Definitely stop.”

”No you are quite right. Daimao hates the Turtle School more than he hates almost anything. Your masters did seal him...and then attempt to re-seal him for all eternity. So, he has a right to hold that grudge, in my opinion.” Shell said to Takenoko, shrugging slightly.
----
At Caffey’s response about feeling bad, Shell quirked a non-existent eyebrow. She didn’t deny the question, just expressed feeling bad for it. ”Hmmm...so you’re saying you did leave more people on the side of the road…” Shell said, in a gruff approximation of a joke, a smile stretched over his face. It looked almost out of place on the namekian who prided himself on being stoic and strong. He clapped a hand on her shoulder twice, “No hard feelings. It’s good to see you again.” It was a short, simple absolution of her actions. Shell didn’t believe much in holding grudges over things that didn’t matter. Not when there were plenty of things that did matter to hold grudges over.
Cade took his attention next, asking about his past with Ahri. “Oni is what my friend calls her. She is frightfully strong, so my friend akins her to a demon. So, Oni. We did fight, but it was over in seconds. I got a few good hits in, but she surprised me with a trick I’d never seen before. She left me unconscious in a forest clearing.” Shell seemed to chuckle at that last bit, more amused than bitter about it. “As for Daimao...I’d rather not talk about it. The details aren’t polite, and Southerners always seem to have weak stomachs.” That was far as he’d broach his time with his father, although he did answer a tangential, unasked for question. “Although, ‘son’ may be an inopportune word. Daimao creates all of his demon clan subjects, so we all share some relation to him, but very few of us are as close to him as his true ‘son’, Piccolo Jr, was designed to be. We’re more like androids. We have a creator but he’s not necessarily our ‘father’.” Again, creating distance between himself and Daimao. Not technically lying, but not telling people the truth. “What about you? A farmer’s son deciding to save the world? Unusual.” You could hear in his voice that Shell was making fun of his optimistic attitude, but the boy hadn’t overstayed his welcome yet.
Caffey was next, asking much the same questions as Cade. “Correct. Some...errors aside,” Shell said, flexing his chitinous arm ruefully, “I am namekian.” Shell was a little put off by the comment of ‘how’s it like’ to be a namekian. He couldn’t really explain that any more than she could explain ‘how’s it like’ to be a human. Thankfully she tossed out fifteen questions in a second, so Shell was able to just answer the questions he liked the most. “Daimao’s kingdom is mostly in the north, but he does have land in the Southlands. We call them the Southern Demon Lands. And he will always want for more. So he sends us out to find those lands that may be in need of protection, who might exchange independance for security.” Shell let it imply that this was one such venture, that he was winning the trust of this man and this village to eventually offer them a place in Daimao’s kingdom. “But I’m more of a wanderer,” he quickly corrected, “Daimao and I don’t always agree. We aren’t all slaves or puppets to his will. We do think for ourselves. So I’m exploring what else is out there. Taking the best bits and bringing them back home.” That was closest to the unvarnished truth that he’d gotten since he started this adventure. He and Daimao did not agree on everything. His major disagreements were leading Shell to seek powerful allies and techniques to bring back with him to overthrow his father. Hopefully, to make the Demon Kingdom something worthy of living in for all Namekians. The namekian turned to ask Caffey a question of his own, but she had vanished, as if frightened of him. He simply sighed and walked alone for a while.
It seemed clear that they would stop for the night, so the namekian prince didn’t argue the choice. “Seems fine to me,” he said, glancing out over the empty expanse, “I suggest we keep watch, however, since if those things are prowling about, I’d rather not wake up to be some rabid saibaman’s dinner.” He said as he fired a ki-blast into a nearby scrub bush, igniting it with a cackling, merry fire.
