The sun rose over one of the many verdant oases that dotted the landscape of the Southern Desert. It was around such vital sources of water that many of the villages of the region had cropped up, humans and beastmen and other races of Earth coming together and thriving. In recent times, of course, with the increasing prevalence of technology and the ability to fabricate many resources, things had become far easier, leading people to gravitate towards more urban areas. But there were still plenty of things that could only be found from the flesh of the earth itself, and a simpler, more rustic lifestyle called to many.
One such oasis was where Kiryu Miyazawa, inheritor of the Path of Joy, found himself in, and it was not one of the ones that had been found by Earthlings. No, this place still had the chaos of untamed wilderness. There was a primal quality to it, one that was equal parts alluring and dangerous. A careless, unaware person might find themselves trapped by quicksand, lost in a ravine, bitten by a snake, stalked by a saber toothed wolf or hunted by a pack of raptors. It was a place where the energy of the world was strong, replete with beauty and savagery in equal amounts. It was a place of violence and peace.
It was a place of harmony, and it was where Kiryu had determined the next phase of his mission would begin.
The term “oasis” brings to mind the image of a small area of water pushing back the arid desert, but this oasis was huge. It measured in miles, probably tens of them, and a person could easily become lost. Kiryu had found his way to what he thought as the center, a clearing so beautiful that it could have doubled as the masterpiece of an expert painter. The pseudo forest gave way to a circular, rocky shore surrounding a large lake with several outlets. Above, cliffs dotted with foliage allowed a waterfall to flow into the lake, beams of sunlight refracting brilliantly through the flowing water and setting the scene exactly as Kiryu would have wished it.
The young magus began his work, then. Exerting his will, summoning his power, Kiryu formed a large, square platform in the center of the lake. It measured two hundred feet on every side, perfectly square. It looked like it was a smooth gray marble, though it was not so slick as to make footing precarious. Kiryu then concentrated, willing into existence a a fifty foot tall, translucent wall, bisecting the ring and creating two distinct fighting areas, both of which could be easily seen from the shore where Kiryu stood, and should still allow fighters plenty of room to maneuver. He imbued the structure with some of his energy; it would not be strong enough to ignore any concentrated attack by a fighter, but it should stand up to glancing blows and incidental impacts. The lake was so large that there was still several hundred feet to the shore in every direction, and the sounds of running water and wildlife echoed throughout the air.
Here, then, was where Kiryu would test these new fighters. Where he would see how skilled they were, and take the measure of them as people. Observe how they overcame adversity, whether they were overly proud in defeat, or gracious in victory. Here, he thought to himself, was where he would begin to forge an alliance to deal with…
Well, whatever came next.
When he was done, Kiryu allowed his power to rise, flaring it as high as it would go. The waterfall stopped flowing for a moment as the world around Kiryu reacted to this unchaining of magic and might. A scouter would have clocked him at over 30,000 right then. Overwhelming power had never been Kiryu’s forte, but still, he was stronger than most… and this was the signal. His power, flared in the middle of nowhere, would give those that would be attending his impromptu tournament a location to hone in on. It wouldn’t be exact, of course, and as Kiryu allowed his power to settle back down to his normal resting level, he knew that it would not be a simple matter for others to find his location. This hidden lake was well obscured, protected by high cliffs and thick foliage. But getting there was part of the challenge.
Kiryu turned to his companion, the one who had made the journey here with him and helped him bounce ideas around for the setup. He turned his warm, infectious smile on. It was hard not to when your companion was an overly exuberant Majin with a penchant for doing good rather than wreaking random havoc.
”Well, Nal? What do you think? Should we add anything?”

OOC EXPLANATION: Welcome to the first bit of Inheritors! For the players selected for this Event;
This first post should be an RP post about you arriving to the destination. Try not to take more than one post so that we can move things along; you should find Kiryu and Nal at the end of your post.
When you make your first post please include your battle tracker info. Your PL, your stats, techs known, equipment, everything else, will be locked for this thread upon you making your first post.
As this will be a tournament we will eventually move on to competitive spars. I will determine the brackets. The Spars will take place in separate threads to keep it clean. If you are not participating in a Spar, you may comment on it in this thread as a RP post. Initially it will only be Kiryu and Nal that can comment, but as people are eliminated, they will be able to RP here.
Unlike standard spars, as GM, I may choose to introduce environmental effects that could benefit or hinder your characters. I will make that post in the appropriate spar thread if it becomes relevant.
Let me know if you have any questions and let’s have some fun!

At first, the lithe, gray figure was just flying around, zipping in the air from outcrop to waterfall, from cliff to lake, from each little point to another, just marveling in how unlike anywhere else this place was. Nal mostly knew deserts and wastelands, with a tiny bit of city, mountain and sea. She saw trees before, but only from up above, never this up close - and then even, there were just trees, not all these amazing vistas and a huge lake to boot! Giving an ideas for the arena, some better, some worse, some rather surreal (the main idea she's had was plain impossible to do with square tiles - how would all these squares make a circle?) - but generally, at least trying to be helpful. As she saw Kiryu weave the barrier around his creation, she even decided to lend in her power - not to alter anything or add some extra effects, but just to use it in case of need. She was a majin, all she had to do to regain it was a nap and a bunch of candy tossed into her mouth.
That's how it worked in her mind, at least.
Once the exploration, looking around and help with construction finished, the gray girl cast a glance around, grinning. "You could make four statues of yourself flexing in the corners, one for each direction of the world. But I think that'd take a bit too long, even sculpting a hand made of ice took ages, let alone a whole Kiryu. But without those, I think you're done! Though maybe we could think of building chairs and seats around the lake at some point, if you want to have more tournaments here later, so that people can come and witness how awesome fighting here is, then we can teach them that they have to clean up after all the trash they leave or we'll have to smack them in the head for it." - the majin's words were a cascade of rapid-fire speech, though somehow, still balancing on the edge of comprehensibility without going over it.
"I'll go and do like all those wise heroes do in tales and sit under the waterfall and meditate. It'll look ultra amazing when the guys you just lured in come and see that. You should find a sagely place to sit, too! Maybe on that cliff, or in the middle of the arena with your arms crossed. That'd be awesome" - and with a grin, the majin flew off to do just that - still not quite in control enough to not cause a shockwave, but at least not breaking tiles with her liftoff. Progress!

This is a stupid idea. Really stupid. He was multiple times stronger than you!Wearing a Turtle School-style gi with white in the place of orange and black in the place of blue, along with dark handwraps, Zaru didn't exactly look much like he was blending much into the nearby territory. He carried a pack with him, that he'd originally had when he was heading back to Central City, but this was a lot more interesting. The energy that he'd felt spiking from deep somewhere within the Southlands had called to him in a way that simple travelling just couldn't - there was a promise of something there. He wasn't the kind of violence junkie that people tended to associate with martial arts, but there wasn't any nobler pursuit than self-improvement, right? He wanted to, at the very least, see what had let out a spike of power. As much as he reasoned away that he had to investigate, whether because he had to make sure of nearby's villagers safety if the power was malicious, or to seek out knowledge, there was a deep truth to what he was doing. This power was intoxicating. Whoever had sent out that beacon of power was intending for him and others to arrive, to be lured there, like a fish with a light on its head. Yet, here he was, making his way through deep forest, trying to lay low in case flying would make him too obvious. Really, he just wanted to do something more. He'd been cleaning out bandits and wandering around in minor tournaments for years now, and he'd never felt a significant improvement in his abilities. On a scouter, he'd register in the high five thousand range, but that was hardly impressive compared to some others out there. If this beacon was anything to go off, there were beings or people stronger than him so many times over that he'd probably get obliterated if they did decide to feel hostile. Great. Zaru moved through the brush with unusual calm, a blank expression across his face as he didn't bother hiding his Ki from the wildlife around him. He tried to spread it out a bit, even if to be a calming influence on the predators in the area that might've otherwise seen him as a threat, or as food. He wasn't particularly keen to be either. Zaru continued to make his way through the thick foliage before coming to a steep incline, leading up to an edge. The young martial artist decided to make the trek up there on foot, still being careful with how visible he was making himself. No doubt there were others who would come to check this place out too, so he couldn't be too careful. Reaching the actual edge he had seen on the top, his eyes widened for a brief moment. It wasn't exactly what he had expected; there was an absolutely massive lake, probably far bigger than any he'd ever seen. How had he never seen this thing on any maps, anywhere? He had gone out of his way to try and get familiar with the Southlands when he figured he would be living in them for a while, so this was crazy to have been missed. Oddly, it seemed like there was some kind of stage in the middle. Which tipped it over the edge to being weird, more than a curiosity. It seemed like there was something being set up intentionally, and being able to make out two presences in that direction only made that more likely. Well, fine then. No way he could do this unnoticed. Zaru hopped off the edge and began to effortlessly fly through the air towards the two people he could sense and the unusual arena he could make out. He wasn't really sure what to expect; how coud he be?

Post by Vidar (PROJECT: RAGNAROK) on Jan 9, 2020 18:00:54 GMT -8
The walk from the Southern Islands to the Southlands was interesting. Yes, he had walked all the way there. Well, Vidar did not have a car. He didn’t have the means to buy one. He had spent the good chunk of money he had gotten from his job working for the Fisherman’s Association, and from the job he got from Rango, buying himself some equipment, an upgrade to his cybernetic limbs, and various other odds and ends. So, what little money he was left with was not enough to buy even the cheapest of mopeds. Though, he did not mind. He did not get tired. His limbs did not ache. In fact, he had not stopped since he began and now as he continued to march on, he yet did not feel his stamina decrease. There were various advantages to being what he was, augmented with numerous cybernetics and a seemingly infinite energy generator. The environment was also quite nice; that was one of the many pros about walking. He could see the world around him at a nice comfortable moderate pace. He could see the leaves, the swaying grass, he could see the trees dance, he could feel the breeze. He could stop and smell the fresh air rather than be stuck in a cramped vehicle with nothing to do but fiddle with the radio and hope that something of interest comes over the airwaves. There were few people around, the cyborg noticed. The farther away he got from the nearest city, from the nearest town, from the nearest hint of civilization, the less people he saw. He had seen a village, here or there, in the great white expanse of sand; usually settled around beautiful oases with glittering crystal clear waters, but aside from that, there was nothing. He did not mind. People tended to bring noise, and noise tended to drown out the siren song of nature. Up ahead, the traveling cyborg saw something; for a moment, he had thought it to be a mirage, a hallucination brought about by the heat of the desert. But it was real; there was a beautiful and immense oases in front of him. The tree line was unmistakable, but what made this one different than all of the others he had seen dotting the landscape was the sheer difference in scale. The others were smaller; beautiful and quaint, this one on the other hand appeared to be quite monstrous in terms of comparable size. Even from a distance, as his bright yellow irises - a shocking contrast to the black sclera in which they resided - scanned over the tree line, his scanners worked over time. His eyes taking on a searing golden coloration as his HUD kicked into high gear. His HUD was able to gather the information of the world around him with relative ease; the temperature, wind speed, humidity level, his current coordinates - longitude and latitude - and other such information. But, at the same time, he was gathering information on the immense oases in front of him. The height of the trees, their possible age, and above all else, checking to see if he was going in the right direction. The blonde cyborg, the pride of Doctor Kringle, did not want to get lost out in the middle of nowhere, wandering the seemingly endless ocean of sand of the Southland Deserts. It did appear as if he were going in the right way, and onward he went, walking toward the oases and soon walking beneath the green and brown canopy that provided, at the very least, a few cooling degrees of shade from the searing sun hanging high above. Walking through the dense forest, pushing aside the thick foliage, Vidar followed his HUD's instructions; the energy readings that his sensors were picking up, the fluctuations in power, were growing closer and closer as he got nearer to the center of the large oases. The air around him was filled with buzzing activity; the birds singing, the insects chirping, the breeze whistling between the trees, and the occasional snap of twigs as predators hunted and stalked their prey. The sudden surge of power from Kiryu, as his energy shot upwards - his power level nearing and reaching what scouters would read as 30,000 power level - set off his HUD's alarm bells. He had found exactly where he needed to be. Up ahead, at least fifty yards ahead, was where the energy was radiating from. It called to him, almost like a siren song, beckoning the curious to it; and Vidar was curious. As he drew nearer, he became aware rather quickly that he was not alone. Someone or something was nearby, and he stopped in his tracks. There was a very slight rustle of shifting leaves. Something slid through the dense foliage nearby. He could hear the padding of large paws on the forest floor. He turned to face whatever it was. He saw a pair of yellow eyes staring at him from the nearby bushes, from within the shadows. It was a large feline, a saber tooth tiger of some kind and it growled as it stalked forward. He raised his arm, the metal plates shifting and his arm changing shape, taking on a different appearance; no longer resembling an arm but taking on the look of a weapon, a Gatling gun, aimed at the furry creature. His eyes glowing bright searing gold as his scanners swept over the immense furry creature, taking in all of its details - size, weight, species - and even took photo and video, in order to catalogue the beast in an internal dossier. The beast stopped in its tracks. Its eyes were locked into the glowing bright eyes of the man, on the strange weapon his arm had become, and it thought twice about attacking, about pouncing, about trying to turn this strange invader into its territory into a meal. It grunted and slowly backed away before turning and vanishing back into the foliage. The blonde cyborg had no real intention of harming the large creature if he had no need to. A simple warning shot would have sufficed. But since the tiger decided not to try its luck, he changed his arm back and turned once again in the direction of Kiryu's energy. He walked through the foliage and stepped out into the clearing. He could see the ring in the center of the lake and he walked up to the shore as he spotted both Kiryu and Nal. The last time Tiger Lily had seen Kiryu was when she was still in the southern islands, she left to Pilaf Land to celebrate her seventeenth birthday with her friends, meeting new teens her age along the way, as well as a very tall grey woman at the Magical Kingdom of Pilaf, all who were all seemingly strong fighters just on how they carried themselves. In fact, she had challenged one to a spar the very next day but they agreed to wait a few days before they met up because there was so much to explore at the theme park apart from all the wonderful food made by the most talented chefs in the world. During that waiting period, she took the time to build a tree house with her best friend Achido, and her boyfriend Cayle who also felt that tree of might sapling had its own noteworthy spiritual energy that made is special among the rest of the trees in the forest cliffs overlooking the southern sea. Today, Tiger Lily was alone at the tree house, as the others were out taking care of personal business. The orange haired teen had spent all day trying to get near one of the bird like raptor nests along the cliffside so that she could raise baby raptors inside a coop Achido had built to keep as pets. It was easier to steal eggs then it was to get near a baby, she was swarmed by thousands in a second whenever the baby raptor cried, and their claws were painful when she was overrun. Just as predicted, the only way to domesticate them was to incubate the eggs and hatch them. Hanging off the tree house deck, she felt a chill on the back of her neck, and looked in the direction of Kiryu’s bolstering power level. Ty had been around the teenage mage enough to discern it was him, she quickly wrote a note by hand, used a thumbtack to leave it on the door of the tree house, and flew off in the direction. It took about half an hour to arrive at the exact location, she was suddenly in the southern lands, the googles on her eyes kept the sandy wind away but not the taste in her mouth when she looked on with ocean teal eyes in awe forgetting to keep it closed. Overlooking the oasis that stretched for miles, she sped up, and in that moment a couple of tiny dragonflies were unaware of her flight path, splattering on her goggles as the rest were chewed up in her mouth, the bitter taste of the insects sent her crashing towards the marble arena with a thud, and she rolled over to the edge towards the lake to cough up bugs. Ty was hanging half way off the arena to scoop up water from the lake to rinse her mouth and wipe her goggles clean until the taste was gone. After recovering, she pulled up her goggles to wear as a headband on top of her head, unzipped her black hoodie, and used her loosened sleeve to dry her face. The number one lesson of flying is to keep the speed into a steady cruise to allow bugs to get out of the way or end up with a mouth full. Tiger Lily stood up on her feet and caught Kiryu’s attention by waving both her arms. “Kiryu! Hi. I made it!” She chuckled as she began to twirl on her feet across the arena to absorb her surroundings from her current point of view, “It’s like an inverted island in the middle of the desert. It’s not that much different from the Southern Islands but the seclusion from the desert makes this place special. Teehee.”
While she focused her attention in his direction, she instinctively looked towards the tree line, and the lake’s shore to see two other people. One she could have sworn she had seen before during a pirate invasion and the other entirely new with a shiny cue ball head. The desert sun was brutal. Riku didn't see how people lived in such a climate, but he supposed when it was your home, you learned to accept and to deal with the rigors of such a place. He staggered into the shade of a rock spire and leaned against it to take a breather. A message caught his eye as it flashed in the corner of his HUD; Attention! Temperatures are above ideal living conditions. May cause organ or equipment failure. Recommend over hydration and finding a cool place to rest.He shook his head at the message. The people who wrote this software must have thought they were giving it to an imbecile. Still, at least it was trying to be helpful. He unslung one of his water bottles and took a a few big swallows of the lukewarm liquid. Feeling somewhat refreshed, he flipped through the messages on his HUD to look once again at the mysterious message he had received a few days ago. Riku Masumura,You have been selected for a unique opportunity, a chance to be a part of something greater than yourself. You are called to the southern lands to participate in a tournament; the prize of which is the chance to gain more power, new techniques, and potentially even items to help you in your fights. Above all of these prizes lay the larger prize - the chance to form a community with like minded people. A community that has a chance to be the new defenders against the darkness that threatens our home. For the winner... a unique opportunity lies in store. I hope to see you there, Warrior. -Kiryu MiyuzawaHe dismissed the message and pulled the hood of his cloak further over his face to block the sun. Maybe he would take the time to rest in the shade for a while. He could probably push on if he really had to, but he wasn't even sure how close he was to his destination. He scooted further into the shade and found a curved depression in the rock, almost like it was made for someone to lean against. He wiggled up against the warm stone and let his mind drift as he considered this tournament. The thing that drew him the most, to be honest, was the offer of companionship. He had made only a few acquaintances and one he considered a friend since his awakening in this time. He peeked out under the hood at the barren wasteland and felt a certain kinship to it. Lonely. He missed his time... even though he had come to enjoy this one, he felt out of place. He squashed the feeling of self pity down and pushed it deep into a corner of his mind. He was supposed to be resting, not feeling sorry for himself. A burst of power registered to the southeast, like a beacon on a dark night. Rik hopped to his feet and turned towards the power source... it was a call, a summons he was certain of it. This Kiryu was probably giving the people who had accepted his invitation a more precise idea of where to find him. He flicked his HUD up and marked the direction and set a way point for himself. He set off with a confident stride, energy restored and no longer feeling a need to rest. It was only an hour or so later that he came to the edge of the oasis. Desert gave way to scrub grass, which gave way to small bushes, which finally gave way to more lush foliage. The air seemed moister, which was odd. His nose could almost scent the water on the air, even after a short time in the desert. He made his way through the foliage towards where he had sensed the power signature and suddenly paused. He drew his blade and whipped it to the side, eliciting a whistling growl as a raptor retreated back into the brush. He spun around an swiped towards the foliage at his back, catching another raptor as it was charging towards his unprotected back. Another whistling roar and he heard footsteps retreating. He listened for a little longer before cleaning and sheathing his blade. He continued on, more cautiously than before as he crept through the foliage. Finally he reached the edge of the foliage and beheld the cliff, crowned with its waterfall. He stepped the lip of the crevice and peered down. Below was a lake, which was incredibly wide to be out here in these dry lands... and had a stone arena at its center. Riku was surprised there wasn't a settlement here to take advantage of such richness... but he supposed these modern people had different ideas of such things. He also saw a young man standing below... Wonder if that's him? He made his way along the edge of the cliff and found a way down, a game trail it looked like. He followed the winding path down to the edge of the lake and picked up his pace. He was ready to see what this tournament was all about. As he neared he grinned as he saw Vidar arriving. He greeted him first with a warrior's clasp and gave him a welcoming slap on the shoulder, "Vidar, my friend! It is good to see a friendly face here. I wish you luck, if I cannot win, it is my wish and hope that you do."
He saw a bald man flying down towards them now as well, but he was unfamiliar with him so he elected to wait to introduce himself for now. There was also a young woman with red hair talking to the human.. was that Kiryu or another competitor? He looked at the young man and the... whatever it was sitting in the waterfall. One of them must have been the source of the power signature... but which? Being unsure, he stepped up and bowed to each as he introduced himself, "I am Riku Masumura. I have come at the behest of Kiryu Miyazawa to test myself here, and to meet new companions."

He sat down on the ground, with his back to the tree. His training session was just finished and he wasn't tired really.. just.. bored. The typical going to work, training and looking for Nal was really tiring. He still wondered about how his little friend, Nal, was doing. He took up the bottle of room temperature water, and took a sip, just to get rid of his thirst. But suddenly, he felt something. It was rather.. familiar. "Is that N-"His speech was interrupted immediately, when he saw the streak of green and grey swooping through the sky. "It's her!"
He quickly picked up his bottle of water and quickly and leaped off the ground, focusing his ki on flying. His neon green aura exploded around him, as he was then lifted off the ground, and went above the trees. He saw the streak of green and grey, still Harding in the direction in which it was heading. Wasting no time, he trailed her down, following her to see exactly where she was going. After some time, he found himself flying over the desert and yes..it was hot. She kinda went into the distance, which caused the Saiyan to lose track of where she was. He stopped and wiped the sweat from his face. He then saw some water bodies in the distance, in which he was tempted to go to, but he didn't want to get off track. But that's where I'm sending her ki right now. I'll just go.
He decided to try following her ki signature and he might actually find her. Once he got closer to her, he could sense an incredible amount of power coming from this man. Once he landed, she was talking to a rather tall young man, that looked like he was in his near or early 20s. "The power coming from this guy. I wonder if.."He observed the area, and saw other fighters.. that were as strong as him. He stood there observing the area, that had fighting areas and also strong fighters, who seemed like they were participating in some.. tournament. Celerai is always up for a tournament. Fighting was just his type of thing, and that is normally expected of someone if they were a Saiyan. Nal was under a waterfall, and that threw of Celerai's plan, to be honest. He really wanted to talk to her and now she probably won't hear him saying this but it was worth a try, even though there was another option.. going infer the waterfall to talk to her, even though he would get soaked, so he decided to shout. "Hey Nal, remember me! It's me.. Celerai. I've been looking for you for days now, and finally! Did you Kiryu as yet?! Is this some sort of tournament, because since I'm here, I'd love to participate!""I haven't forgotten about our spar, Nal. But we could settle that after."He went up to the other young man, in which he didn't know he was Kiryu saying "Man, I can sense your ki right now and man.. you are strong. Say, I hope it's not weird to ask but.. is it ok if you could train me for a few day? I actually like training with other people. I find it very boring to do it by myself."WC: 558 | 558 {CELERAI'S BATTLE TRACKER} SUMMARY

Kiryu regarded each of the newly arrived contestants. It was a motley assortment; the only ones he knew personally, of course, were Nal (who was there to assist and observe more than anything else) and Tiger Lily. The one that introduced him as Riku Masumura apparently knew one of the other contestants, who he named Vidar, and the talkative newcomer was apparently an old sparring companion of Nal's. Only the bald martial artist remained silent, which as an approach Kiryu actually appreciated; staying calm and observant when in an unknown situation with unknown, potentially dangerous individuals, was entirely prudent.
And as sad as it was to say, common sense really wasn't all that common.
Nal's suggestions for what to add to the arena were fun, of course, but that wasn't really the kind of guy that Kiryu was. He'd leave self aggrandizing statues to other martial artists. He didn't care overmuch for laurels or recognition; just the thrill of competition and doing what was right.
"I'll wait until we get started to find an observation spot," he said evenly, though he privately thought to himself that perhaps a sage-like, floating pose might be just the trick for something like this. Image was important, after all!
Kiryu nodded to the one that Riku had named Vidar. "Not at all, my friend, you're right on time. Welcome, and thank you for accepting."
Kiryu turned a friendly grin over to Ty, and waved at her. "Glad you could make it! Yeah... I didn't know about this place exactly. This is, uh, kind of intense, to be honest, but I spent a lot of time in my childhood wandering around and finding neat spots like this in the desert. At the least, it's quiet, and we shouldn't be disturbed... or risk too much property damage! Better view than a baseball diamond though, eh?"
As Riku bowed to him, Kiryu clasped his right fist in his left palm, holding the pose in front of his chest. He bowed in return, though he never looked down or broke eye contact. It was a true martial artist's bow; a sign of both respect and wariness. "Greetings, Riku Masumura. I am Kiryu Miyazawa. I'm honored that you've accepted my invitation."
At the rapid fire words from the man identifying himself as Celerai, Kiryu held up a hand, forestalling further speech. "Nice to meet you, my friend. If I can answer your question to Nal for her... yeah, she found me. And training is what this is all about, in a way. I'll elaborate."
Kiryu also offered a martial artists bow to Zaru. "Welcome, my friend. Please, let me know a little more about you when you feel comfortable. For now, let me tell all of you what this is all about."
At that, Kiryu powered down a bit, allowing his subtle aura to completely dissipate and relaxing, his power level returning to it's normal, resting level. He looked the assembled group over and addressed them as a whole. "Thanks, all of you, for seeking this out. This shows me that not only do you have the spirit of fighters, but you have curiosity and initiative. You sensed something greater. This might be a little grandiose, but please, bear with me.
My name, as I've said before, is Kiryu Miyazawa. I was brought up by my parents and inherited some esoteric spiritual and magical techniques from a philosophy called the Path of Joy. I set out about a half a year ago to broaden my horizons, to expand my skills, to grow and become strong. In these journeys, I've made friends, like Nal and Ty, here, as well as others. But I've also made enemies. And beyond that... I've learned that there's something more out there. Something bigger... something darker."
Kiryu did not elaborate on the specifics. A hoard of magical mutant Saibamen ravaging towns throughout the South? Giant Kaiju sharks mutated by shards of the mythical Dragon Balls? Prophetic visions that warned him of the return of a great evil? No, that was too much to ask strangers to accept, so he plowed ahead, making it relevant to them. "Many of us know bits and pieces of our history. Of the world being attacked by dangerous entities. Of a group of fighters that grew strong enough to stand against the time, strong enough to secure our people from those that would conquer or kill us. Many of these fighters, in legend, are supposed to be from the Turtle School, or the Crane School... but for the most part, these organizations have seen fit not to divulge their deeper secrets and techniques.
So we've got to figure things out on our own.
I've called you here for the purpose of becoming stronger. Each and every one of you will gain strength through their trials here today. But you might gain more, too. I am intending to take one a student as my disciple. It's my hope that as Master and Apprentice, we can both learn from one another, pushing each other to greater heights.
But I'm not going to train just anyone. This isn't just about how strong you are or how hard you can punch. This is about who you are, too.
So we're going to have a bit of a tournament. A small one, to be sure. There's an odd number so we'll have to get a bit creative, but we're going to start with two matches. The winners will then face one another.
You will all be rewarded. Just for showing up, I have some items that will be of use to you in the future. And I'll offer you feedback, and you'll have the training itself.
Here's the kicker; just winning the tournament doesn't mean I'm going to choose you as my disciple.
I expect you all to behave honorably, by which I mean; this is a non-lethal contest. Any attempt to permanently harm or kill one of the other contestants, and I won't just disqualify you... you'll have me to deal with. But I'm one of the people that believes that you can tell a lot about a person from the way they fight. So I'm going to be watching, very closely.
Even if you don't win, or aren't selected as my disciple, think of this as... sort of an audition. A test of character. You'll be letting me know what you can do, and that when the shit hits the fan, and believe me, it will, you'll be the kind of person I can count on to have my back. The kind of person I'd want on a team.
Anyway, that's the long and short of it. If you have questions, let me know. Nal here will help patch you up after your matches. Uh... let's see. Riku, how about you pair off with Vidar, since you two seem to know each other? Ty... I'm going to have to have you engage in a three way contest with Celerai and our other competitor. Sorry, friend, but you haven't offered your name yet.
If any of you have questions, you can ask me now. But there's no sense burning daylight... I want to see some good fights!"
[WC=1,203] [TWC=2,008]
All right, competitors! The initial matches will be as I said. Ty, Zaru and Celerai, you will be in a three-way spar free for all.
Here is what I would like;
Everybody gets one RP post here. Ask a question, tell a story, do whatever you want. It should include you moving to your designated area (one of the walled off sides of the ring) and your Initiative roll.
After everyone in your match makes the post, please start a NEW THREAD entitled "Inheritors Spar: X versus Y" where X and Y are the names of the characters. Begin the spar using the initiative rolls rolled here.
For every full round of the spar, anyone not currently engaged in a spar may make an RP comment in this thread. For now that is just Nal and Kiryu.
Pay attention, because I might throw in random things to the spar like environmental effects or some such to challenge your characters in unique ways!
The reward for whoever is selected is going to be that they may become the site's initial Disciple, which is part of a new Mentor/Disciple system we will be implementing!
Carry on!

Tiger Lily paid attention to the introductions, she had never met the others until today, after sorting the one named Riku with another named Vidar, she deduced she was up against the teenage boy and the bald man who both looked quite strong. The arena did look stable enough to go all out in a fight, she walked over to the area Kiryu indicated, and began to stretch to prepare for a fight. The orange haired teenage girl had only spent two seasons since leaving her home island and learned a lot by training in spars. Kiryu helped her grow to her present power level which included a technique she learned by imitating the magus. Being observant and exhibiting a sharp memory allowed her to adapt in any situation to further improve her personal growth.
While she would have liked to formally learn martial arts the chance of being Kiryu’s disciple was out of the question. The opportunity would be for someone more worthy and independent than herself. Ty relied on her family in terms of housing, finances, and most of all staying close to either her Uncle Toad Lily or Cayle who her parents trusted. In fact, she knew she did not have the chance when she last spoke to Kiryu telling him that she looked forward to meeting his new student. Overall, this was still a learning experience, and she was not going to miss it for the world.
“Alright, guys. Don’t take it easy on me just because I am cute. I know how to fight! So do your best ok?” Ty cracked her knuckles, she was rather confident, but the truth was she did not have any formal training but adapted to anything that was thrown at her to survive a fight.

Riku took in the respectful bow that he was returned; this man seemed to be good. His actions, open face, and welcoming demeanor all made Riku want to trust this man... so he decided to do just that. He would trust this man's word until he was given a reason not to. He listened to the man's words warning of dark forces at work in the world. That bit was... troubling to say the least. Still when the darkness rose, the warriors who followed a righteous path would rise to meet it. They always did. When he was paired with Vidar for his match he nodded slowly and then turned to consider his friend.
He knew Vidar was as strong if not stronger than he; though since he was also a cyborg he couldn't really get a sense of his power. Riku unslung his pack and took something that looked like a padded off of the side of the pack. He drew his sword and sheathed it within the padded attachment he had had made for such situations. This way he could use his blade and not hurt anyone... much. It was still like being hit with a padded iron club... but still much better than a sword blade. He finished fixing the sparring cover into place and took a few experimental swings. It was a little weird, but not too bad. He turned to Vidar and gave his friend a nod, "I am ready once you are, Vidar. Say the word and we'll head to the arena."
He began considering Kiryu's words as he waited for Vidar to prepare himself, no questions immediately sprang to mind. He would either be found worthy and chosen or he would not. It was as simple as that. He let his concerns and fears fall away and straightened himself up for a moment before he began a simple stretching routine to get his blood going. He began bouncing a bit from side to side on the balls of his feet... he was indeed ready to get going.

Apparently, the person who he approached.. was Kiryu. Finally, he gets to meet the guy in person. Celerai, being Celerai, wanted to ask for a spar there and then, but that wouldn't make any sense at the moment. As he had some bigger fights to fight at the moment. Kiryu introduced himself to everyone and explained in detail what exactly the while setting up of the fighting areas and that stuff was for. It was actually a tournament, and once Celerai heard this, he smiled and said to himself
Yes, finally! Some action. Time for some training. I can finally test out my new tricks.
He realized that recently, his punches were way faster than before, and he was rather proud of himself. Once he heard about the winner becoming his disciple, he was confident, that he would put on a good show. Being his disciple means training with him, and that's what Celerai wanted. He followed the orange haired girl, Ty, to the fighting area which was where they were going to fight, it seemed. She started to do some stretches and Celerai joined her, doing some stretches of his own. Once she stated that she didn't want any holdbacks, he looked up, while he was doing his push-ups and said
"Yeah. I'd love to see you all go all out. I always like a challenge. So.. I don't think it's necessary to hold back, if we agree on this of course."
He got up, and looked for his next opponent. He didn't know exactly who it was, as Kiryu, himself, didn't know his name. The bald headed man looked extremely familiar though. Where has he seen this man before? Oh yes, the sausage eating contest. How could he have forgotten. He approached the bald headed man, and said
"Hey, your the only one left at the moment, so I'm suspecting that you're fighting with me.. and Ty over there. But wait.. aren't you.. Zorro? No, sorry, I forgot about Cade and him just mispronouncing everyone's name. What's your name?"
He stood there, waiting for the man's answer.

Post by Vidar (PROJECT: RAGNAROK) on Jan 16, 2020 20:36:33 GMT -8
The individual that had called them all there, whose great power had gotten them all to come to this specific, and enormous, oasis in the midst of a seemingly endless desert, went by the name of Kiryu; or, at least, that is how he introduced himself. As Vidar had come out from the tree line, having managed to frighten away the immense saber tooth tiger that appeared to want to make him its lunch, he quickly took notice that other fighters were appearing. There was a silent bald man whom he allowed his scanners to immediately trace over; his eyes glowing a searing gold as he took in the man's data and placed it into a data bank within his HUD. INITIALIZING...CREATE FILE? Y / N Y... INITIALIZING... FILE CREATED... NAME FILE? ____ He had no name given yet so he just named him BALDY. He took the info that he could extrapolate; height, probable age, eye color, as well as weight, and added them to the file he created. There was not much else to add to the file. Once he had gotten the bald man's information down, he also took note of the other fighters; there was the strange individual whom was pointed out as named Nal, there was one named Zaru, one named Celerai, and then a familiar face. This one already had a file in Vidar's data banks; it was the cyborg samurai, Riku. The man appeared quite happy to see Vidar, a friendly face in a sea of unknowns, and the yellow eyed cyborg would be lying if he were to say he was not happy to see the samurai. He had first met the man when they ran into each other on a job in the Southern Islands. The fishermen had gone on strike and they were tasked with bringing in a large haul of fish. Things started out fine on their trip but things quickly devolved. Violent storms, strange islands that did not appear on any map and should not exist, hideous anomalous fish people, and a strange temple that caused both of them mild distress to look at. They had gone through a strange adventure but they were all the stronger because of it. Now, there they were, the cyborg acknowledged Riku, a small smile crossing his face. But, the thing that bothered Vidar was why they were called there in the first place? The invitation had not been particularly forthcoming with that information, and as he faced the man, hovering above them, he listened closely to what he had to say. The world had been attacked by dark entities in the past, yes; Vidar knew that much. He had been created for the sheer purpose of dealing with said threats. However, his creator met his maker before he could completely upgrade the cyborg, his creation. And while Vidar felt he was strong, at least according to his HUD and his self diagnostics, he could not help but feel that he could be stronger. This was to be some kind of tournament. The winner of which, or at the very least the one whom Kiryu chose, would end up becoming his disciple? He was looking for a student? Was that the purpose of this particular tournament? It felt somewhat dramatic; like something out of some kind of cheesy martial arts movie - the teacher looking for a worthwhile disciple upon which he could bestow his knowledge so as to not have it be lost to time and to have a worthy student to protect the world from villains X, Y, and Z. But, at the same time, it also made some level of sense. If Kiryu wanted a good disciple, a strong disciple, he would choose someone who was strong not just in raw power, but also in character. There was no greater danger than a man with power, but with no moral compass, and no regard on how he used that power. Once the instructions were given, the yellow eyed cyborg turned to face his friend, now his opponent in the match and he bowed his head somewhat, "I am rather unaccustomed to tournaments or contests of strength. Forgive me if I stumble." He spoke genuinely though he then began to make his way toward their area of the tournament arena, "Have you ever participated in a contest such as this before? Post by Zaru on Jan 17, 2020 11:06:31 GMT -8
Zaru suddenly felt himself standing very out of his depth; he'd touched down in front of the (seemingly) normal man and his unusual-looking friend, then it felt like all of their pals turned up. Everyone was throwing names left and right, and it was then he began to wonder if he was gatecrashing, rather than investigating something important. Thankfully, Kiryu seemed to straighten everything out. The one guy Zaru did recognise was the guy in green, Celerai - he'd been there when the young martial artist met Cade, at some stupid eating competition. He didn't like remembering that day. Mostly because almost all of his memories involved puking, at one point or another. He was a little taken aback at actually getting a proper bow, and returned one to Kiryu, glad that he was meeting someone more...orthodox, for once. It seemed like everyone did kind of wonder what he was doing here, and feeling the energy in the area, he was starting to do the same. Everyone here must have been at least as twice as strong as he was, if his ki senses were still working right. He'd never met anybody that had such a leap over him in terms of progress, and he was only saved from the internal crisis as he was asked to tell more about himself. "I'm Zaru. I'm- well, I guess I'm originally from the Turtle School. My whole family is, they're-" He hesitated for a second, not sure if he wanted to bring it up still. He hated being asked about it, but it was better to get it out now, rather than having it teased out by probing questions. "I'm from the family-clan of Krillin, down in the South Islands. Don't read too much into it, I'm the fourth son of a fourth son and so on. Real minor." Zaru doubted that any of them would've heard of the small tourneys he'd won, so there wasn't any point in showing off about it. The whole time, he still kept his robotically blank expression; it looked almost as if he wasn't interested, even if that clearly wasn't the case. The bald man listened intently as he heard Kiryu speak of something darker lurking in the distance, like a presence that was just about ready to jump in and wreak havoc. His eyes diverted for a moment when those who had stood up once before were mentioned. Were the stories he'd heard about the old man true, maybe? He'd always dismissed them. He hadn't ever had a real master, either. Zaru had always kind of blended into the back, so he was used to just training and teaching himself. This guy seemed like he was actually kind of younger, but even so, he already appeared to know a lot, and Zaru had never had the opportunity to study anything about the Path of Joy, even if he might've heard rumours now and again. There were so many stories about hidden martial arts schools, it was hard to recall what stories had even passed through his ears. Zaru glanced between the other competitors, and wondered who the rules about honour were meant to enforce against. Who wasn't honourable in tournaments? Maybe those robot-looking guys. Might've been military or something, wasn't like there were any kind of rules in their neck of the woods. Yeah, that'd make sense. He glanced at Celerai upon hearing his voice, and his flattened face scowled for a moment as once again, his name was mispronounced. How hard was it to get right? At least this guy was polite enough to ask "Za-ru. You're Celerai, I remember. You and Cade knew each other, right?"Finally, he stopped himself for a moment before heading off to his own side of the arena, glancing back at Kiryu. "Hey, look, I know I'm not exactly the biggest energy battery in this pack you've gathered, but no matter how it goes, if this 'darker' thing you're talking about...all I'm saying is, feel free to get in touch. I can pull family favours to help out, too." He gave a nod before floating over towards the one side of the arena, feeling the anticipation build already. This was gonna be a real test. He'd be nursing bruises for months, for sure, but it'd be all worth it.

Kiryu couldn't keep a grin off of his face as the melee began. Just watching these combatants leap into the fray was enough to get his blood boiling. Part of him wanted to call the whole thing off and take all of them on at the same time, but not only was that insanity, it was not why they were there. Kiryu's eyes were in constant motion, the participants exploding into action, flickering back and forth, summoning mighty attacks and defenses. It didn't look as though any of them were planning on holding anything back, and that turned Kiryu's grin quite nearly feral.
Riku and Vidar collided, Vidar's form coming into contact with Riku's blade, the android's body more than up to the task of stopping the metal. The two warriors slammed into one another, and a dull peal like thunder rippled through the area. A shock wave from the collision rippled out, momentarily bisecting the waterfall and causing a momentary lapse in the heretofore omnipresent sound of running water. Kiryu noted that Riku seemed fond of rapid strikes with his blade, and that Vidar appeared to favor powerful special attacks.
Well, Kiryu thought, Wouldn't be interesting if I just let them brawl now would it?
The ring they fighters strove in was an extension of Kiryu's will. It was his own magical construct and responded to his commands. With an effort of concentration, Kiryu created a brief, bright flash right in front of Riku's eyes, and sent an electrical surge into Vidar to interfere with the latter's ability to harness energy.
"Fights aren't just about having the best moves or the strongest defense," Kiryu said. He spoke loudly, projecting to be heard over the din of combat. "If you want to play at a higher level, you need to adapt, overcome. How you deal with unexpected adversity is the difference between life and death!"
It may have been a bit heavy handed, but it was the truth. Kiryu hoped they would react well to the new challenges, and kept them in the periphery of his awareness as he turned to regard the three way fight.
"What do you think, Nal? Any suggestions for this?"

She sat under the waterfall all sagely and mysterious, but soon grew bored of that and instead, rushed over to land right next to Kiryu, observing the ragtag crew of contestants. She liked the looks of some of them, specifically observing Tiger Lily and her mannerisms - she grinned joyfully at those, that one could be a nice friend, like Zam. Less violent maybe, but probably just as fun. ...Nal really needed to meet Zam again, maybe take Kiryu with her to explain to the other majin why sometimes it's good to not immediately destroy things. She just had to find a way to convey that into majin speak - and translating to majin was a thing she really liked and was damn good at! Alongside other things. On that note... the gray girl looked over at the host of this little tournament with a grin. "I think we should give them some obstacles! I can block their favourite abilities for a few moments... or make some of them bigger. Or make -all- of them bigger... or faster, actually." The majin looked over at the cliffside where the water was, smirking slightly. "Or I can cut out a big rock out of that place, then break it above the battlefield to have a lot of debris fall, have them dodge a lot. Or attack someone and see how others react. So many ideas..."
The majin wondered for a short while. "Though I think I like blocking of their skills the best. Make them have to be a little more creative with what they do rather than rely on just one big ability, no?"
