Mastery Points
Character progress on Dragon Ball: Broken Destiny is primarily measured by a currency known as “Mastery Points” (Abbreviated as MP). MP can be thought of as Skill Points in other games: by earning and spending MP, your character grows stronger and is able to expand upon their own individual fighting style. Mastery points can be spent in a variety of ways in this game, from raising your stats to ranking up techniques, and even shortening the time required to travel or train to learn new things.
Gaining & Spending Mastery Points
The primary method of earning Mastery Points is simply through Roleplaying in threads of all kinds. Roleplaying rewards Effort Points, and you can exchange 1000 Effort Points for 1 Mastery Point. You can get more details about how that system works here.
Some thread types can also award MP directly, such as Mission, Bounties, and GM Events. You can also receive MP as site awards for celebrations and holidays. Sometimes, if something exceptional has happened in your thread, a GM may offer MP as a reward. So always do your best in every thread you are in!
Anytime you receive Mastery Points, you should note it on your Character Sheet, which you will edit as you change and grow. You should always have a source link when gaining Mastery Points, so that if it is ever required, you can show a paper trail of when you acquired your bonuses. Similarly, when you spend Mastery Points, you also need to note what you spent it on with a Character Sheet edit. It is the player's responsibility to keep a thorough log of gaining and spending, in case there is ever a site error, or your rewards need to be verified for events such as Tournaments or Plot Events. Remember! If you forget to edit your character sheet, even if you announced you were doing something anywhere else, it never happened! So keep your sheet up to date at all times!
Masteries
Masteries are the primary way to spend your MP. Masteries all have Levels that indicate how far your have progressed in them. You must purchase levels of Masteries in order (you must purchase level 2 before you can purchase level 3), but increasing a level of mastery takes no time IC or IRL, so you may purchase multiple levels at once if you possess enough Mastery Points. You can never take the same Mastery twice, however, so making choices, such as increasing your Skills and taking new Traits, are monumental decisions that you should put plenty of thought in before finalizing. The available masteries are below.
Focus Mastery
Each level of Focus Mastery increases a single Skill of your choice by +5 permanently. You do not have to choose the same Skill for each level of Focus Mastery. The total value of Focus Mastery’s skill increases is +25.

- Level 2 costs 2 MP.
- Level 3 costs 3 MP.
- Level 4 costs 4 MP.

- Level 1 costs 5 MP.
- Level 2 costs 5 MP.
- Level 3 costs 10 MP.

This technique has a number of uses as described in the Signature Techniques page. At level 2, you may select one of the following bonuses for your Signature Technique; +5 Accuracy/+2 Damage (for Offensive Signature Techniques), +2 Damage Absorption/-1 Ki Cost (For Defensive Signature Techniques), or Remove 1 Status Effect you are currently inflicted with (for any Signature Technique). You do not have to apply this now. At level 3, you have the choice of an additional signature technique with 1 use per thread or to increase the number of uses per thread for your primary signature technique by 1. At level 4, you again have the choice of; +5 Accuracy/+2 Damage (for Offensive Signature Techniques), +2 Damage Absorption/-1 Ki Cost (for Defensive Signature Techniques), or Remove 1 Status Effect you are currently inflicted with (for any Signature Technique). You may apply this bonus to one Signature Technique. You do not have to apply this now. Class Mastery
Every level of Class Mastery increases your Class Level by 1; at level 1 and 2, you gain access to 1 Class Trait, chosen when you purchase respective ranks of Class Mastery (found on the Traits Page). Class Trait choices are restricted by your chosen Class. Additionally, each level of Class Mastery grants you one additional Class Feature based on your class, as seen in the Classes page.
- Level 1 costs 10 MP.
- Level 2 costs 20 MP and requires a total MP spent of 50.

Miscellaneous Expenditures
In addition to the Mastery trees found above, there are a few miscellaneous things that you can spend your MP on.
- You may spend MP to Rank Up Techniques. Each Technique has different MP costs per rank, so be sure to check them out on the techniques page.
- You may spend MP to decrease the learning time of your techniques. Every 2 MP reduces learning time by 1 Week.
