The Faction & Reputation System
What is this system? What is their purpose?
Factions are groups of player characters and non-player characters bound together for a common cause in a certain region. They are what some games might call 'clans', or 'guilds' but are called 'factions' here because of the sheer variability of the possible groups which might exist. Most factions are aimed at gaining greater martial power and specifically martial arts power, as well as training their members to gain such power.
Factions as a system are meant to be a gateway to elusive 'signature techniques' which require multiple characters to formulate and which instantly mark someone as a member of a particular organization, and are also meant to make the world of Dragon Ball: Broken Destiny more 'living' than simply having the players characters hop from place to place without having visible effects on the world would imply.
The faction and reputation system does so via a collection of various methods. The first of which is explained in the following.
Reputation and You
What do your character's villainous or heroic actions matter? What does performing a mission as you've set out to do matter? What is the point of missions at all? The simple answer: Reputation. With every action or inaction you make in the world, your character's reputation is molded to those in the know, perhaps the people throughout the region entirely.
We mold this through a simple system: For every mission you complete in a region, you gain 1 Reputation point. This is kept in a master list in the OOC discussion section of the forum. In addition, due to their dastardly actions or great actions (aka at staff discretion and sometimes from results of events), players may gain (or lose) reputation as well.
Reputation is regionally locked up to a certain point, so that a great Samurai from the Western Lands might be a nobody to the average person in the Eastern Lands, if he doesn't have a huge amount of reputation. But everyone in the martial world knows the likes of someone like the Crane Style warrior who has done so much for the North that the people talk about him as if he is some sort of myth. This is done through the following:
Each Region has a separate 'tally' for the number of missions completed in it/total reputation in it. The user's highest reputation in ANY region, is their 'global reputation'. This means that missions completed by region hopping do not add to the total, the total is simply the highest total of missions/reputation you have in a single region.
At 1-4 Reputation, you are somewhat well known within the region of your activities.
At 5-10 Reputation, you are well known throughout the region of your activities.
At 11-15 Reputation, you are known of by the martial artists around the world, though the amount they know about you may vary greatly.
At 16-19 Reputation, even the common folk around the world know who you are. You're a genuine celebrity to some.
At 20+ Reputation, there's a quite sizable chance that people will tell of you and stories of you to their children and grandchildren.
But what does Reputation get me?
At 3 Reputation, you gain the ability to purchase the first level of 'Signature Technique Mastery'.
At 4 Reputation, you may gain a free 'improved treasure roll', adding xd10 to your treasure roll, where x is your class level, once per month on a completed mission.
At 5 Reputation, you may gain membership to one of the local factions of the region that you possess 5 or more reputation in.
At 7 Reputation, you gain the ability to purchase the second level of 'Signature Technique Mastery'. This still requires you to have at least a level 4 stronghold built to purchase the second level of signature technique mastery.
At 9 Reputation, you gain the ability to purchase the third level of 'Signature Technique Mastery'.
At 12 Reputation, you may buy membership into any of the factions within the world.
At 13 Reputation, you gain the ability to purchase the fourth level of 'Signature Technique Mastery'.
At 15 Reputation, you may take a leadership position in an NPC founded faction which you are apart of.
At 16 Reputation, you may purchase the fifth level of 'Signature Technique Mastery'.
At 20 Reputation, you gain an additional Zeni reward when you complete any mission, personal saga, or event equal to the amount of EP you gain from that thread- meaning that a thread rewarding 100 EP would give you a bonus 100 Zeni. Additionally, you may choose to forgo this bonus and instead grant a bonus to another character who participated in that thread with you; they gain an additional EP and PL modifier as a percentage equal to your Reputation, to a maximum of 30- so 20 Reputation would give them an additional 20% EP and PL. This bonus may only be applied to characters whose total EP gained and total PL are less than 50% of your own, and may not be awarded to a character who has a higher global reputation than you.
Signature Techniques
You'll notice in the above, 'signature techniques' mentioned. These are a special category of technique which are exactly as they sound – techniques which might be only slightly be above average in what they do, but are iconic and when someone sees them they know that it is that. The kind of techniques which are noticeable and which carry a legacy, but which might not be 'legendary' in their own right. You could say they're a stepping stone to legendary techniques from the more common special techniques. Signature techniques take up their own slot which require you spend MP to make one available: dragonballbd.proboards.com/thread/14/2-mastery-points-masteries
You can find out more about Signature Techniques in the next post of this thread.
How can I get reputation points?
Reputation Points can be gained in the following ways:
1 Point is gained on the completion of every mission by a player character*.
1 to 3 Points may be given at GM discretion for Events. Players who leave events early may be penalized with less (or no) Reputation Point rewards if they quit the event before it finishes.
1 Point per level of Stronghold built, divided by the number of players participating in its creation to a minimum of 1 point.
1 Point for learning a Legendary Technique.
1 Point for crafting a custom artifact or questing for a lost artifact.
*For missions completed during 'travel', the player must indicate which region they want it to count towards from the two regions they are traveling between, or the mission must be only available in one region, and the mission must be in a region they are traveling to or traveling from.
What about the Factions themselves?
The Turtle School
Regions Active: Southern Islands, Eastern Lands
Signature Techniques: True Kamehameha, Dynamite Kick
Also known as: The Orange Star Alliance, The Monkey Fist School
The Turtle School, also known by some as the 'Orange Star Alliance' is actually a collection of two schools which follow the teachings of the original Turtle Hermit, Master Muten Roshi. Known for their tendency to wear the almost stereotypical sleeveless orange and white gi, the Turtle School is older than many of the current nations in the world, and alongside the Crane School of Martial Arts, claims to be the oldest existent and non-defunct martial arts school – as well as being the pioneers of several techniques which are considered 'legendary' in the modern day and age.
The Wolf School
Regions Active: South Lands, Pilaf Land
Signature Techniques: Wolf Fang Fist, Savage Surge
Also known as: The Wolves of the Desert, Wolf Fang Foundries
The Wolf School, itself founded by a graduate of the Turtle School, is a dominant presence in the Southern Lands and Pilaf Land, where even in the great Theme Park itself, they've carved themselves out several dojos. Extremely popular among young toughs in Pilaf Land, Central City, or the Desert Towns surrounding the Oasis of the Great Central Desert, bandits throughout the Southern Lands, and law enforcers, the Wolf School is believed by many to be simply a basic school of martial arts- but those who have joined the faction proper know that it is just as powerful as many of the other schools out there. They are fierce rivals with the Southern Demon Kingdoms, though not openly rivals with that state.
The Crane School
Regions Active: North Lands, Central Lands
Signature Techniques: Dodon Ray, Giga Drill Peck
Also known as: The Crane Hermits, The Northern Mountain States
The crane school, originally founded by the man known as Master Shen and then refounded by Tien Shinhan, is one of the two most powerful martial arts schools in the world. With a chain of schools and monasteries throughout the Northern Lands and Northern areas of the Central Lands. Known to rent their monasteries out as locations for movie production and foe participating in the WMAT for hundreds of years, they are the hard bitten protectors of the North.
Capsule Corp
Regions Active: Central Lands, South Lands
Signature Techniques: Final Flash, Big Bang Attack, Fabricate
Also known as: The Vegetan School, The Kingdom of New Vegeta
The world's richest corporation by a long-shot, and which has been such for over 400 years. Some have been known to say that they trust the Capsule Corporation to protect them and take care of their needs more than even they trust the World Government to do so. Functionally the ruler of West City and many smaller cities, Capsule Corp follows the example of its illustrious founder Dr. Briefs and second CEO, Bulma Briefs. The Capsule Corp is known to be a major employer of West City's Saiyan population, and it is well known that West City has the largest concentration of Saiyans in population percentage of any place outside of the Eastern Lands, so that's saying something. While Pilaf Corp sees Capsule Corp and its subsidiaries as rivals, Capsule Corp rarely actually pays attention to Pilaf Land in matters outside of the Entertainment and Amusements industries.
The Pig Demon Duchies
Regions Active: Central Lands, West Lands
Signature Techniques: Absolute Unyielding Spirit, Miracle Slash
Also known as: Numerous Names, including the Western Kingdoms.
Technically a collection of many smaller factions, the Pig Demon Duchies are both a martial artist faction and a nation state built up to create more martial artists with which to fill its armies with for defense of itself against the Northern Demon Kingdom. It does not have one, singular martial arts school, but the signature techniques of the founder known as Yajirobe are well known to the elders of most clans, and thus taught in the schools of their respective clans or the alliances which their clans are apart of.
The Southern Demon Kingdoms
Regions Active: South Lands, Pilaf Land
Signature Techniques: Devil's Spiral Beam, Stone Spit
Also known as: The various tribes, kingdoms, and other polities of the Demons all have their own names as which are they referred to as well as 'The Southern Demon Kingdoms'
Technically a collection of many smaller factions, the Southern Demon Kingdoms are nominally allied kingdoms, duchies, towns, tribes, gangs and monasteries of various power and population which are unified only in that their rulers are typically demons or earthlings who have trained hard under their Demon overlords, and in the fact they face siege from the likes of both the World Government, The Pig Demon Duchies, and even their technical ally, the Northern Demon Kingdoms. There are not one, but dozens of martial arts schools within the Southern Demon Kingdoms.
The Northern Demon Kingdom
Regions Active: The Northern Lands, The Central Lands, The Western Lands
Signature Techniques: Masenko, Explosive Breath Canon
Also known as: Demon Clan Namekians, Piccolo Daimao's Kingdom, 'The Dark Kingdom'.
The entirety of the Northern Islands of the continent, as well as nearly one hundred smaller peninsulas and coastal areas in the Northern Lands and Central Lands, the Northern Demon Kingdom is the seat of Piccolo Daimao and his Demon Clan, which despite many people calling them 'Demon Clan Namekians' also has a minority of Demons, Humans, Beastmen, Monsters, and even some small number of defected Androids and Saiyans.
Pilaf Corporation
Regions Active: Pilaf Land, South Lands
Signature Techniques: Fabricate, Devil's Advocate
Also known as: Pilaf's Magical Empire, by haters "Pilaf Gang"
A rival with Capsule Corporation for the title of richest corporation in the world, Pilaf Corporation is a distant second in over-all profits but stands firmly as number one within the entertainment and media categories of industry. Ran by the descendant of Emperor Pilaf, known as Pilaf the VIth, the Pilaf Corporation are experts at teaching engineers and lawyers, and typically hire them to perform Pilaf Corporation's own brand of war.
Red Ribbon Remnants
Regions Active: The Southern Islands, the South Lands, The Central Lands
Signature Techniques: Reverse Meteor Drop, OSEB
Also known as: The Red Ribbon Armies, various division's own chosen names.
Not a traditional singular faction in any sense, the Red Ribbon Remnants are united in their mercenary attitude and reputation for excellence, as well as their fascination with the organization which once almost conquered the world, the Red Ribbon Army. Time and media propaganda campaigns have done well to reform their image in the eyes of many, and it is not a surprise to see a division or whole remnant based in a base near a mid-sized city which they protect in the Southern Lands, the Central Lands, or the Southern Islands. Known for sticking to 'what works' their schools are not an unified entity but do teach the same approximate signature moves.
The World Government
Regions Active: The Southern Islands, the East Lands, The North Lands, The West Lands, The South Lands
Signature Techniques: Reverse Meteor Drop, OSEB, Fabricate
Also known as: "The Some of the World, Government." "The Furry Dynasty.", "The World Government Special Forces", "The Indigos"
Technically the World Government as a super class martial artist group is very small. Known as the Indigo by some for their dark blue military uniforms, the entirety of the World Government's Special Forces are technically members of the World Government Army, even if they operate in other fields or as bureaucrats, spies, or the nobles over small regions loyal to the World Government. Despite the realpolitik fact that vast swaths of the World are not under the direct control of the Furry Dynasty and its World Government, The WGSF have quasi-legal authority to operate in any and all regions they go to in support of World Government directives.
Can I make my own faction?
Yes, you can. However, to do so you have to have the following requirements filled out:
1 – 1 PC with at least 6 Reputation.
2 – At least 3 PC signed up.
3 – At least a level 3 Stronghold in the region where the reputation is.
4 – At least 2 of the 3 PCs signed up for the faction to have the first level of 'Signature Technique Mastery' unlocked, and a signature technique designed by them, In Character. This requires a cumulative 3000 words.
5 – 1 PC whom has the qualifications for the 'Mentor' status from the Disciple/Mentor System. That is to say, 15K or Higher Natural PL, and at least Class Level 2.
