Appearance: Atalan has long coal black hair from which ears emerge from in sharp points; it also frames his sharp angular features. His eyes are soft brown that bely his temper. He is not especially tall, standing at 5'9" and has a well muscled build. He tends to wear dark colors but almost always features forest green somewhere as it is his favorite color.
Personality: Not as cold and ruthless as a full blooded demon, Atalan is more about ruling with efficiency. Killing his people is wasteful... after all they won't be around to give him tribute anymore then. He has emotions but keeps them tightly controlled since his father punished anything he felt was too much like a mortal to make him more of a demon. He has a cruel streak when someone annoys him and when his temper breaks his saiyan heritage tends to take over as he is much like them in his ferocity.
History: Atalan is the son of a union between the late Baron Ariszp and a wandering saiyan warrior woman named Korunko. He didn't really get to know his mother that well, as she left shortly after his 1st birthday and rarely visited. He last saw her when he was 10 years old and has no heard anything from or about her since then. He was discovered to have arcane talents at a young age and his father set him to endless study and practice to fully unlock his potential and grow the family in power. He also learned about governing a land and how to subjugate its people. He often went with his father on what he called "morale suppressors" where he would visit a random village and start destroying it until he was done having his fun.
When Atalan was 20, his father disappeared. He was presumed dead and most demon lords figured Atalan for the one who had killed him to further himself. Far from casting a shadow, it marked him as a rising star and a demon lord to be watched with interest. Atalan changed the quotas for the lands he governed, raising them slightly but letting the people know that if they met the quota there would be no more... "morale suppression." It seemed a wasteful exercise of time he could spend expanding his magical control, as long as they stayed in line. He only had to destroy 2 villages before the rest fel into line and starting meeting quota. As they remained untouched, some of them even grew a little with refugees from other demon's territory. That was fine with Atalan, it just made him able to raise his quotas as towns grew.
This was met with some anger and distrust from other demon lords.. who began lodging complaints to the king. Atalan one day received a letter from the king outlining his concerns with Atalan's ruling style... and threatening him to keep the old ways. Atalan began looking for more ways to expand his power, so that he could bring his own vision of what the demon kingdoms could be into the light... and so that he could eventually rule the entire world. It would be a first step... to ruling many worlds.
RP Sample: Atalan stalked through his manor, boot heels ringing out an echoing against the wall and a paper rolled up in his clenched fist. He stopped and unrolled the paper again, reading the low-lights. Concerns come to light... letting your peons live without bleeding them enough... bad example for young demons and other lands... I'm so bloody tired of having to prove myself to the blasted king and his vapid wife. And the cretins he calls his children. These are MY lands. MINE. Maybe.... it is time for a change of leadership. First, I must amass more power... I am mighty but if I am to destroy the whole royal family I will need much more power at my disposal.
He threw the paper on the stone floor and flexed his hand, making it burst into flame. He turned towards his seneschal, Grazzel, and in his smooth voice he called, "Get one of the imps or cleaning boys to clean that up. I am going to my study. Do not send anyone to disturb me for the next few hours unless they are expendable." He strode out of the hall, using his will to open the doors ahead of him and to slam them behind him. An imp that was carrying a mop and bucket moved to the side of the hall and bowed as he swept towards his personal study mumbling, "My lord." as he went by. Reaching his study, he closed the doors and locked them behind him.
His study was well appointed; a dark rich mahogany desk with a nicely cushioned chair resting atop of a dark grey carpet and surrounded by a rich orange yellow color on the walls. He sat and looked down at the worn and well oiled leather cover of his grimoire. It had been passed down through the family for ages, the spoils of some world long forgotten. He ran his finger down the cover, enjoying the cool smoothness against his skin before he slid his finger and cracked the book open. He carefully leafed through the spells, studying the language and the movements required. He had barely begun to unlock his potential... the only problem was that simple practice wasn't enough. He needed more actual combat experience... and maybe some allies and minions. Or slave soldiers. Whatever was available. Regardless, if he was going to conquer the demon lands, and then the world, he knew some travelling would be in order. He studied the first in a series of glyphs on the newest page he was studying. He carefully traced the rune in the air, leaving a shuddering blue impression of the rune in the air. He studied it impassively for a moment before swiping his had and drawing it again. Better.
After a couple of hours, he had learned the string of runes well enough to try to string them together. He quickly sketched them into the air, fingers quick and sure. Soon, the full spell hung in the air and he felt like he understood somewhere inside... the essence of the farthest edge of the demon realm.. where fire failed and ice colder than any to be found in life flayed the poor souls caught there... a word came to him and he whispered, "Zamhareer..." The runes flared with light before the spun together as if they were caught in a vortex and formed a portal of icy blue light from which emerged a hailstorm of ice chunks and ice spears, slamming into his study door and destroying it. He rubbed his chin and allowed a slight smile to crease his face, "Interesting. I can't wait to try this out. Grazzel! Prepare my things. I am going on a journey."
