Thusfar, the island that Aisling had found himself trapped on was not entirely boring, though he found each day beginning to contain less excitement than the last. There was little in the way of an indigenous population- just a small fishing village. Those humans had initially been quite welcoming to Aisling, believing him to be just some poor lost boy- but as the boredom of dragging days passed on, it became more and more apparent to them that he was not entirely what he seemed. At first, the lad’s japes were mostly harmless; they were little more than practical jokes played here and there, like secretly burying a few ornery crabs in the fishing traps to pinch the fingers of the fishermen that caught them. It was good enough fun and the villagers seemed to enjoy the fae’s company for the unusual liveliness he brought to their lives. However, his pranks gradually grew less… innocent- at least in the eyes of the villagers themselves. A few boats had found curious corks stuck within their floors, only to discover that removing them opened up a hole in the hull that caused the vessels to rapidly take on water. Aisling had laughed himself senseless from the shoreline as he watched those distant fishermen working to quickly re-seal the holes. Fortunately for them, only a single boat had been lost as a result of that particular prank-- and Aisling did recover the vessel from the waters’ depths once the fishermen swam back to shore, but they did not appreciate his joke. Then came the cases of mysterious duplicates of married men and women showing up individually around the town. Tests of loyalty, Aisling had called them- and, in his transfigured state, he had seen just how far he could push the boundaries of their relationships before being caught. As one might expect, the couples so strained by Aisling’s antics were quite irate when they discovered him for what he was… and at least one had caused irreparable damage to a long-standing marriage. Some, however, felt even further unified by resisting the temptations of the transfigured fae, making votes to exile him from their village remain at least a little divided. But, at last, Aisling hit the final straw of the villagers’ collective patiences when he some of the village children disappeared for days at a time. No harm had been done to them, as the fae lad was at least principled enough to know not to cause direct harm to youth unless they attacked first, but the worry that those childrens’ disappearances caused their parents was too much. The children themselves had simply “lost track of time” while playing with Aisling, and the games they played were quite innocuous- hide and seek, fantasies of knights and kings, and even some simple sports. The villagers had convened while Aisling was out to collect the next morning’s breakfast fruit one night and unanimously decided that the boy was no longer welcome in their village. Aisling took their decision in stride at first, believing that they were simply playing a game of their own- like some kind of playful test to determine if he could survive on his own without their company. However, when he had bored of the ‘game’ and attempted to return to the village, he found that the local militia was gathered quickly and demanded that he leave. When he questioned them, they explained the severity of his ‘games’ and informed him that he would be attacked if he returned to the village uninvited again. Aisling had become quite bitter about the outcome of the whole ordeal, thinking that he had done nothing truly worth that level of reprimand- and he responded by tormenting the village from afar even further. He would stalk the coasts and night and empty the fishers’ traps, instead filling them with more and more stones each night, until they were too heavy to lift off the sea bottom. Boats would be dragged away from the village docks and left to sway about in the sea beyond, requiring their owners to swim out to recover them on days wherein the sea was particularly tumultuous. And so it was that a small bounty was placed on the fae intruder. The villagers were not so malign as to wish him dead, simply… removed from their island. Word of the bounty was spread to neighboring islands and the village’s trade partners, with hopes that someone would possess either the strength or the magical ability to come and… convince Aisling to leave peacefully. wc: 765 Kiryu

Belief, as it turned out, was kind of a funny thing. Belief shaped how you viewed the world. It informed your opinions, your actions, your prejudices. According to some belief systems, your sexual preferences were enough to deny you entry to heaven upon your death. Other people vividly and sometimes angrily decried the existence of any type of divine entity. Kiryu had no problem with belief systems, per se. What he had an issue with was the rigid inflexibility of some adherents of these beliefs. Their utter certainty that they were right, that everyone else had got it wrong but their holy text, well, that was the true Word! Fire and demons and whips made of the anguish of the unloved for everyone that did not believe that way, or some other such malarkey.
To Kiryu, what that meant was that you had stopped growing as a person. Forcing everything in the wide world to conform to your beliefs, rather than having the emotional and intellectual capacity to recognize and embrace new data and experiences, was a glaring weakness in his eyes, especially when one considered just how many belief systems there were in the world... and how many there had been throughout history. Hell, in times gone, people had burned effigies for their gods. They had sacrificed livestock, made gestures to ward off evil, placed salt on the entrances to their homes that no malicious spirits could gain entry, believed that Demons could be summoned at crossroads to make dark bargains. And the fact of the matter was that every being on the planet inhabited a world in which demons and monsters roamed. Monsters of legend could still be found in the wild places of the world. Men and women could summon great power. With their might they could raze hilltops and shatter stone and burn the sea and step into the very clouds, walking among them as the gods of old.
So when an island village had put out word that they were being harassed by a faerie, Kiryu did not roll his eyes or discount it. He made way for the village immediately.
On the way, he had prepared. The Crystal Ball that he had recovered had showed him so very many things. Not only the future, but the past. The now. Secrets and lies. Truths that were burdens to his soul. Despite that, it was a valuable item. Priceless, in fact, at least to Kiryu. Through his connection with the artifact, he had learned that, though the way he engaged with his power was the same as other martial artists, and functionally he could do many of the same things, it seemed that the source of his power was not the same as many of theirs. They channeled their own innate power, and developed it through intense training. Kiryu could do that as well, but he was more powerful than he should have been, based solely off of his physical capacities and ki reserves. That was because his power flowed from magic. He had a connection with it, and he had begun exploring more of that, embracing the arcane in ways he had never been fully aware was possible before.
Kiryu chartered a boat to the island, which was currently named Tuvalagi. From the nearest port, it was a short trip over, only one full day. Kiryu used that time to meditate, to see what secrets the ball might reveal to him. It was far from an exact science; when Kiryu focused, he was assailed with images, emotions, impressions. Rarely was everything explicit or clear, and such was the case here. Kiryu was bombarded with images, of men and women clad in gleaming armor, of them fighting giants, of a watchful peace. Of a race of immortals, not the same as those others, but similar, and powerful, and ancient and proud, intimately tied to magic.
Kiryu had not marked the time, but if he had, he would have seen that, when his meditations were over and he opened his eyes, suddenly panting and drenched in a sheen of sweat, several hours had passed.
The next day, Kiryu arrived on the shores of Tuvalagi. His dreams had been strange, full of alien impressions, but still, he believed they had been fruitful.. Kiryu stopped at a local marketplace, and spent some zeni buying fresh bread and a sweet local mead, as well was a simple cloth. He then simply... walked out into the wilderness. He walked into the forest and slunk between the trees, until finally he found a spot that just felt right. The canopy was not so thick here as to cut off the bright sunlight, and a brook babbled softly nearby, and something about the rocks and the trees and the deer in the distance bounding away from him felt wild... and right. This...
This was a fae place.
And so Kiryu set about preparing his offering. He laid down the clean cloth, and upon it, he placed the bread, still warm and smelling good enough that Kiryu was tempted to steal a bite. He opened the handle of mead, and it's sweet scent set his mouth watering. And he knelt in the glade and felt the world around him, and he spoke, so softly he could not be overheard unless one were standing directly in front of him.
"I have walked beneath the Earth and beheld terrible things. I have strove against ancient powers. I have beheld the past and the future and the now. Mine eyes are open and by name and by this offering and by my power, I call thee. By the light shining in my eyes, I summon thee. By my will and by my magic, thrice do I entreat and bind thee.
Come."

Aisling was not to be found in that fae place-- not immediately, anyways. Instead, the lad was some distance away, toying with the fish in a gently flowing creek. He had a small piece of bread that had been lifted in the night from that little fishing village and was breaking off small pieces of it to toss into the water, but not before spinning a glamour that would mirror the presence(but not the reality) of that crumb several times over. The fae fellow was, more or less, playing a game of hiding-cups with the fish; those that successfully located the ‘real’ crumb were allowed to eat of it, while the others were met with empty mouths and disappointment. “ Don’t you start gloating now, just because you’ve been right three times in a row!” he chastised the reigning ‘champion’ of the fish, who seemed to be quite confident in its ability to properly locate the real crumb. Aisling paused his game to scratch at his nose, which had quite suddenly taken to itching. No matter how he rubbed the dainty protrusion, the itching did not go away- leaving him only to hope that ignoring it would do the trick. Another piece of bread was torn off and tossed into the creek, but when the fae moved to duplicate its presence, he abruptly sneezed and caused the spell to fizzle. The fish-champion took advantage of Aisling’s momentary lapse and snatched down the crumb before his compatriots even noticed what had happened- causing a frustrating glare from the fae boy, who was once again scratching at his nose. “ Oi! That one don’t count, I sneezed- so stop actin’ all damn smug likes!” he further reprimanded that fish, which was indeed looking mighty proud… for a fish, anyways, “ ... Keep it up an’ I’ll be having you for dinner! DAMN IT, why won’t my nose stop itching?!” the lad demanded, this time moving both hands to furiously rub at his nose. No matter what he did- rub of scratch, rough or gentle -nothing seemed to alleviate the terrible itching that had taken it over. Then, he smelled it-- the fresh bread, so savory and steaming, and the mead, so delightfully sweet and aromatic. Those scents seemed to come from nowhere in particular, but were present all around him, as though they were right in front of him. Aisling got up from his seat and jumped across the creek, moving quickly up and down its shore in an attempt to locate the source of those wondrous smells- but they were nowhere to be found. Worse yet, they smelled as though they were right in front of his face! “ ... someone’s playin’ a game on me. But, the villagers aren’t smart enough to magick anything like this, so… who--” the boy’s words were interrupted by a whispering that shook him profoundly to his core. It was a voice that bubbled out from within his own mind, as though some intrusive thought had been given reality. Unlike the mysterious scents, however, this beckoning voice had a distinctive direction to its source- and a power inherent in its words. At first, Aisling was unable to entirely make out what the whispering was saying, but it gradually became more clear. He did not understand initially what the voice wanted from him, but the allure of its power caused a memory to stir within his core- within the fragment of Titania locked away inside him. Aisling was not being spoken to- he was being summoned. Worse yet, whoever was attempting to enact that spell of summoning was similarly attempting to work binding magicks upon him. Was someone attempting to turn him into some manner of servant, some paltry familiar? The very thought roused a deep and haughty anger within the part of Aisling that was Titania. He was not some common sprite or goblin to be conjured forth and bound into servitude- he was the Queen’s Dreams! At the same time, however… the part of him that was entirely himself was curious, perhaps in spite of the anger that such audacity spawned. Who could have come to the Tuvalagi with the knowledge and the power to even make an attempt at binding a faery? An investigation was in order- and to that end, Aisling suppressed a majority of his presence and made for the source of his summons.
The fae lad arrived quietly and scurried up a tree nearby, taking a perch on a thick branch to look over Kiryu. Definitely a human- but definitely not one of the villagers. Perhaps they had brought him in to make excise Aisling? Or, was he truly trying to bind the faery to his will? Aisling pursed his lips, then let a small measure of his power show through- enough so to alert Kiryu of his presence, but not so much as to betray the full scope of his strength. “ Hoi, hoi! You ain’t a pretty lass, an’ I usually only come to the call of pretty folk. You’re gunna have t’ try a bit harder if you want to bind me anyways, so what’s’it that you actually want?” Initiative Roll: JhRtUWfc1d100wc: 883 effective twc: 1565 Kiryu 1d100

A smile split Kiryu's face into a wide grin.
It worked.
He had thought it would. He had hoped it would. But until that moment, he had never done anything that was, so directly, magic. It still confounded and amazed him, and he swore to himself right then that he would not allow this strange gift to go unexplored. He would perform research. He would buy scrolls and potions and seek out those that purported to have talent in the arcane arts. He would utilize every possible resource and explore every potential avenue to develop this skill and see exactly how powerful he could become in the craft.
For now, though, he would have to make do as he was.
The voice that rang out to him was... Kiryu could not put his finger on it. There was an almost musical quality to the words, though they were spoken and intoned quite normally.
"Well," the young man said in reply, "I like to think I'm a bit pretty myself, but you are quite correct; I am no lass. But I did not intend to bind you. I have brought no cold iron, nor have I prepared wards or circles. I simply wanted to call you here, to entreat you."
Kiryu paused, then, looking around the idyllic glade. He could not see the owner of the voice; they were well hidden, and something about the quality of their voice made it difficult for Kiryu to pinpoint their location by sound alone, despite how competent Kiryu was when it came to relying on senses other than sight. Still, the faerie (for what else could this creature called by the old words in the old ways possibly be?) had announced it's presence, not only by speaking, but by revealing it's power. Kiryu wasn't entirely certain if that was it's magical strength, or if it was ki. Hell, Kiryu didn't even really know if there was any functional difference in the two, at least according to how he perceived it.
It was no pushover, that much was certain, but if that was the extent of their power, Kiryu had them far outclassed.
Others may have let that put them at their ease.
Kiryu was not one of them.
In his most recent fight, Kiryu had fought Bass alongside Ahri and Duke Luciferus Satan. The ludicrously strong Namekian had been more powerful than all of them combined... and multiplied by two... maybe even three. Still, neither Kiryu, Ahri or Duke Satan had fallen in their contest. They had bested Bass, both by working together and by applying their hard earned skills against his brute strength. It had been a near thing, even with all that, but it was concrete proof that strength alone was no guarantee of success. Thus, Kiryu was on his guard.
"You see, as it turns out, the people in the area do not overly care for their food stores being raided, or tricks being played on them... or their children disappearing for extended periods of time."
Kiryu stood then, stretching and rolling his shoulders, rolling his neck from side to side. Kiryu did not notice, but as he spoke, his voice... altered, slightly. It became a hit higher, slightly more nasal. A bit of brogue slipped in as he rolled his r's and a lilt that had never been there before came out as he attempted to converse with one of the Fair Folk. Perhaps it was some remnant of old blood from deep within him...
Perhaps it was something else entirely.
"Aye, these be good folk, and I do no' think that their mothers and their mother's mothers kept to the ol' ways. I do no' think that they know to appease ye with fresh bread and sweet mead an' cool milk, an' me apologies fer no' fetchin' that for ye."
Images of men and women clashing, fighting with round shield and large swords, their faces painted in blue whorls came unbidden to Kiryu then. Amidst them were prayers to some of the Folk... to the Sidhe. There were Names, and rites, and power all bound up and it threatened to overwhelm Kiryu, but he shook his head to clear it, then continued on.
"But, that said... I have come because they have put a bounty on you. I do not actually wish to collect it... nor do I wish to to harm you. What I do wish is to ask for the abatement of your harassing of these people. And if a simple request will not do, I will offer you a bargain. And if you will not bargain..."
Kiryu allowed his power to build, then. He did not bring anywhere near his full capacity to bear, but he matched the power he had felt from the Fae creature.
"If you will not bargain, then you must be mastered."

The feminine lad’s lips pursed again momentarily, then tugged them downward into a frown. It was fortunate that this stranger did not bring cold iron with them- if what they said could be trusted, anyways. The same was extended to his supposed absence of wards and binding circles, meaning that this fellow was possibly quite strong, bluffing, or more likely, a complete fool. He did not seem to be absent the proper knowledge required to summon one of Aisling’s kind, meaning he likely was not fool enough to bluff about something as serious as iron. Being tricked into a binding was an annoyance, but not something that most decent-natured fae would outright resent, given their own guilesome nature… but anything involving cold iron was a particularly grave matter. Some might compare the differences to deceiving a child into thinking that an apple was an orange… and that a grenade was an apple, respectively. Severity of iron aside, this strange was quick to confirm that he had been brought here by the villagers to oust Aisling from his abode. It was a fact that was half expected and still half offensive to him- did the villagers not learn? His games had been mostly harmless when he was allowed to live with them, but their potential consequence escalated greatly when they saw fit to exile him from the village. To attempt to remove him entirely from the island-- Aisling wondered how the villagers expected he might react? Even if this stranger succeeded in temporarily pushing the fae off of Tuvalagi, he would surely return to exact the price of his departure. Further, even if Kiryu did managed to trick the fae lad into some form of binding, the fool human would eventually live out his natural lifespan, and then Aisling would be free to return. If anything, they were simply pushing their comeuppance onto their children, or their children’s children. It was a terribly irresponsible thing to do, he thought. On the other hand… Aisling didn’t have a particularly reliable way to escape the island, and he had only remained there as long as he had due to the lack of options. Even when the fishermen did not resent him, none had room to actually ferry him off shore. Sure enough, the fae could have swam somewhere- but he didn’t know the area, and would likely find himself lost at sea. Then, what, would he be doomed to join the selkie? Water Sprites? Fish? Sirens? All dreadful thoughts-- Aisling was a terrestrial fae, and though he did enjoy swimming, spending the rest of his existence stuck with oceanic fairies was a most dreadful prospect. “ Righ’, right’, they want me gone likes. Annoyin’ as it is, I spent enough time with ‘em to at least understand their feelings on the matter,” Aisling replied at last, half-lying to the human. He did understand why the humans wanted him gone, but he could not actually empathise with it at all- they were wildly different kinds of beings, of course. The lad continued, “ ... but see, I ain’t one t’ be proper kicked out so easy likes. Fortunate for you, I’ve got a curiosity bigger than I’ve got a vengeance, so a chance to go out an’ see the wide world is something I do so fancy. That means I’m not unwillin’ to bargain. However…” the fae trailed off as he pulled himself to a full stand atop his branch. “ ... I been mighty bored likes since they stopped lettin’ their kids out in the woods. So, we’re gunna play a game for a bit. I don’t care who wins or loses, as long as it’s fun-- so iffin’ you make it fun enough, I’ll happily bargain! Okay, ready-- set-- go!” Aisling seemed to have no intention of explaining what game they were playing nor its specific ruleset, but his intentions would become clear enough quite quickly. He gathered a large mass of ki just beyond his mouth, then released it in the form of a dense-but-then beam. The fae traced an erratic line through the ground with his energy-beam in the areas near to Kiryu- but not yet close enough to hit him directly. Shortly after the beam had completed is swerving pattern, the ground that had been cut began to glow quite brightly. Kiryu would undoubtedly be able to sense the energy rapidly building up within those small fissures- but the rising power within them lasted only a fraction of a second before it erupted outward, flooding the majority of the human’s clearing with a large burst of explosive energy. wc: 782 etwc: 2347 BATTLE TRACKER DEFENSE PHASE

The first thought that ran through Kiryu's mind was that it was time for a quip. Unfortunately, he didn't think that one of the Fair Folk would really get pop culture references. With a heavy heart, then, Kiryu merely thought of the quote, and said internally,'Would you like to play a game?'. After that, Kiryu had to react. The fae did something very interesting, utilizing a ki attack and targeting not Kiryu himself, but the ground around him in odd, zig zagging patterns. Kiryu tensed, crouching and keeping his muscles tight, ready to move. His prudence was rewarded when Kiryu sensed the energy building in the ground beneath him. Thanks to his awareness, he was not caught off guard as the energy erupted upward, an effect akin to a sudden volcanic explosion. Fortunately, Kiryu was skilled enough to sense when and from where the explosions would be coming, and he was quick enough of mind and body to use that information to send himself into a flowing, evasive dance. It was a near thing, and several times he had to adjust due to small miscalculations. Once, he had to throw himself into a terrifically acrobatic sideways aerial, which had him so out of position for the next eruption that he nearly tore a muscle in his back twisting out of it's way. Still, he moved, an almost enchanting dance of grace. At the end, Kiryu spun out, finally having won free of the edge of the explosions. He paused for a moment, drawing in a deep breath and steadying himself. He was briefly dizzy from his tumbling, but he swiftly returned to normal. "Looks like you're not without your talents! Very well; I will accept your challenge. And should I win, I shall even be a companion to you. There is a wide world, with wondrous sites still. There is adventure and magic and wondrous things still afoot here, and I will show you that these may be partaken of without harassing the mundane mortals. Or, I shall fail, and be unable to sway you by my strength or by my words. Let us see if I am equal to the task!"At that, Kiryu did as he normally did when combat began. Calling upon his power, he summoned his ki armor, which settled over him, appearing as a silver, translucent set of old samurai armor. He then retrieved the capsule that contained the restorative medicine he favored, releasing the item and crushing the root in his hands, absorbing the ointment that was released into his bloodstream. Kiryu stood, then, at a bit of a loss. He could have unleashed all of his power; with that, and the full force of his skill brought to bear, Kiryu knew he would likely be able to easily defeat his foe. But Kiryu could feel… something. He did not know what exactly it was. Call if a sense of destiny. An understanding of the magic, a feeling for the moment. Whatever ‘it’ was, though, Kiryu could feel that there was something more to his opponent than there appeared to be. Kiryu wanted to find out what that was, and there was no truer test that a person could face than combat against a worthy adversary. No, Kiryu was determined to use this combat to draw out some of the hidden depths of this faerie, if only to continue his own path of advancement through the arcane arts. Kiryu, then, did not leave his power at it’s normal level. Instead, he kept a tight lid on it, only allowing out what was necessary for him to use in the battle. FInally, he reached out with his sixth sense, tapping into the flow of arcane energy that he was beginning to regard as a constant companion. Reaching out to that deep, inscrutable well of power, he summoned the ring of power that he had found in his journey to what had seemed to be the center of the earth. It appeared on his left middle finger, a glimmering band of platinum inscribed with wards and runes each repeated in threes, forming an intricate pattern. Kiryu breathed in deeply, feeling the curative item he had used begin to renew the small amount of energy he had expended. He forced himself to breathe calmly and evenly, keeping his heart rate down. The more his adrenaline spiked, the more he would be likely to speed the combat up, becoming too difficult a target for the Faerie to keep up with. By decreasing his awareness, his reflexes would slow, and he would have to devote more attention and energy to avoiding hits, which would give the faerie a fair shot at seizing the initiative. Kiryu was sure that no matter what, this would be an interesting bout.

A frown crept across the fae boy’s features when he witnessed Kiryu predict and outmaneuver his disruptive volley of explosions. Aisling had thought that he was being particularly clever with that tactic- to see it thwarted so easily was nothing short of disappointing. Somewhat in his defense, this was the first actual combat experience he had ever since waking up; though he did have fleeting recollections of battles that the being constituting his core had engaged in, none of them seemed to apply as far as muscle memory. If they had, and if he had access to even a fragment of that being’s true power, Aisling figured that this little contest would have been over quite quickly. On the other hand, if it was ended by either party too quickly, then the whole point of it would be defeated. If the fae was to get his fun by defeating something substantially less powerful than himself, he could have simply eaten the fish that he was toying with before, no? Perhaps it was fortunate, then, that Kiryu was more tactful in his movements than a mere fish. That left an important question lingering within the boy’s mind though-- did Kiryu taste at least as good as a river fish? If the world was lucky, the two would never be permitted to have that conversation. “ If I didn’t have any talents, you’d not be here, human!” Aisling quipped back and lowered himself to a crouch on his branch, coiling the whole of his lithe frame in preparation for launching off of the leafy appendage, “ ’sides, what point’s there in havin’ abilities like these iffin’ you aren’t going to bring magic to the mundane?!” As his question completed, rhetorical as it was, the fae launched himself off of his branch and rocketed toward Kiryu’s position. He wound one hand back and held it, waiting until he landed immediately in front of the human to lance his extended fingers forward, attempting to spear Kiryu’s chest with the stiffened tips of his fingers. Regardless of whether or not his initial strike was successful, Aisling commanded a surge of ki to gather within his finger’s pads. The tips of those digits began to glow, as though he were about to follow through with a small burst of energy beams. However, he redirected that gathered energy just as it seemed primed to erupt from his fingers, instead shifting it suddenly to materialize as a bright orange sphere within his other hand. He thrust the ki-filled palm upward and released his blast, intent on having it detonate point-blank within Kiryu’s face. If either of the attacks proved to be successful, Kiryu would find that they had been subtly magicked and sapped at his strength- making him feel just a bit stiffer, a bit heavier, thereafter. wc: 479 etwc: 2826 BATTLE TRACKER DEFENSE PHASE

Despite his suppressed power, and the fact that he had attempted to slow down his reactions, Aisling's attacks were still exceedingly transparent to Kiryu. Perhaps it was that his reflexes were so honed, his muscle memory so automatic that he had to devote even more energy to suppressing his reflexes. Perhaps Aisling was unused to so physical a contest. Whatever the reason, Kiryu found the fae's attacks to be quite telegraphed, at least for the moment, and he calmly analyzed the sequence of Ailing's incoming attacks. Kiryu could have jumped clear fairly easily, but such a maneuver would put him farther away than he liked. Kiryu was not someone that overwhelmed an opponent with sudden powerful techniques; he used several smaller, insidious maneuvers to sap an opponent's strength over time. So Kiryu decided to try to stay close and utilize his pressure point strikes. Instead of move away from Aisling's spear hand thrust, Kiryu used his left hand to parry, deflecting the attack harmlessly to the side. The second their skin made contact... Blood.
The stone table stood before the armies of light and dark, drenched in the blood of the sacrifice. Summer was dying, now, giving way to Winter. Long past were the days when Autumn kept the balance. Her Knights were gone. Her mantle was broken, and only the oldest of gods could say whether it would ever be found again.Kiryu blinked, reeling from the sudden intrusion of alien feelings and images that his mind was assailed by. He only had a moment to draw a breath before another one struck. Men and women and other things merely wearing their shapes were gathered, wearing voluminous dark robes. The ground was graven with ornate eldritch circles and sigils, carved into the stone and laden with gold and silver and platinum and electrum. And in the center of the circle stood an old man, the veins on his body blue and stark, his skin wrinkled and leathery, but in his eyes were terrible power and knowledge and hunger.
A beautiful young man with golden hair lay in the circle, bound by invisible forces, and the man began to speak, his voice deep and dark as the depths of the ocean. His voice was thunder and his word and his will were law.
"I call you. In the names of the Three, and the Seven, and the Nine, I call you. Thus is our contract written; thus is our compact bound. I give you a coin I made from a stone. I give you a song I stole from the dirt. I give you a knife from under the hills, and a stick that I stuck through a dead man's eye. I give you a claw that I ripped from a rat. I give you a name, and the name is lost. I give you the footfalls of a cat. I give you the bear of a woman. I give you the roots of a mountain, and the sinews of a bear. I give you the breath of a fish, and the spittle of a bird. I give you the blood from out of my vein, and a feather I pulled from an angel's wing.I call you with names, oh my Lord. I summon with pain and I summon with pride. I open the way and I open the gates.
Come."
And the air was rent and a gibbering monstrosity with many slavering mouths began to pull itself out from the void between worlds...Kiryu did not know what was happening. He did not know what he was seeing, what he was feeling. Even so, he pulled away from Aisling as though he had been burned. Despite the sudden mental intrusion, Kiryu did not falter. He was too well trained for that, and his instincts and reflexes kicked in. Kiryu bent and ducked away from Aisling's ki attack, and as he dodged, he sensed... something about the attacks. It was different than a mere ki attack... there had been something arcane in those strikes, and Kiryu was suddenly glad he had not been struck. Jaw tightening a bit, Kiryu began his counter assault. As Kiryu righted himself from his dodge, he flung out a ki blast of his own, aimed at Aisling's chest. He then stepped forward and struck, utilizing short, crisp, precise strikes to the faerie's soft tissue, aiming for nerves and pressure points to impede Aisling's ki flow. After Kiryu had completed the sequence of strikes, he feinted, pretending to offer a large, wound up roundhouse kick, and abandoning it at the last second for another ki blast. Regardless of how effective his attacks were, Kiryu would go on to backflip a good fifteen feet away, coming to a stop in a fighting stance, wary for Aisling's next move. Despite his lack of harm so far, doubt and uncertainty gnawed at Kiryu. What the hell was Aisling?

Aisling, too, shared in the flood of images that passed from his body to Kiryu’s own. He mirrored the human’s grimace and recoil, though his expression was one less of bewilderment and more of grave offense. What the human had done was partook of some fragment of the lad’s memories- or, rather, the memories of more than a few dreams cobbled together. The long sleep that Aisling had been made to endure was filled with such amalgamations of experiences, scenes flowing seamlessly and nonsensically into each other. Sometimes, they followed some semblance of a plot, and sometimes they were little more than emotions given dream-form. Nonsense though they might have been, the fae was quite possessive of them. Those dreams, those memories, were the closest thing to life experiences that he properly had. Sure, there were the glimpses of the creature that was Titania here and there, but for all practical purposes, Aisling had been born only when he first awoke. “ Oi! You knock that the hell out-- them’s are my dreams, ain’t meant for some idiot human like you to see!” he chastised Kiryu as he began to retreat, realizing that his assault had been essentially useless. Before he could offer further up his dismay at what Kiryu had done, the human began his assault; first came a searing bolt of ki that tore into Aisling’s chest, staggering the lad enough to send him stumbling backward. So much pain from a simple blast… how was it that humans like this one existed at all? Even in his dreams, the most potent of the humans that Aisling had conjured up were only barely magicked warriors- easy to deal with, comparatively. They were knights to his dragon, sufficient only in numbers. Kiryu…. Kiryu was not that, and for the first time since meeting the human, Aisling began to worry that he may very well find himself bound somehow to his whims. Such power was not something to be trifled with! Regrettably, Aisling was too slow to entirely pry himself away from the magical man’s following flurry and found his flesh pinched inward all along the softer regions of his torso. Immediately, he could feel the energies within his core slowing to a trickle, reluctant to surge out again as freely as they had before. Whatever the human had done had disrupted his ki flow; worse yet, the injuries that had previously not hurt began to shoot radiating pain throughout his abdomen. It was not so much to be entirely debilitating, but enough so that his attention was caught by the throbs each time they happened- and that was noticeable enough to be damn annoying. While he was wincing at the pain that echoed through his torso and still reeling from the impact of the human’s first blast, Aisling was fortunate enough to not be exploited by Kiryu’s attempt at a feint. It may very well have worked on the fae lad if he had been paying full attention to the human’s actions, but the pain from the initial blast and the radiating soreness from his… damned -pokes- were distracting enough to allow Aisling’s instincts to take full control of his body. He pirouetted to the side, letting the secondary blast glide past his side without causing any further damage. Though he counted his fortunes in that dodge, he was really not sure how to deal with a creature of such power. For a moment, Aisling wished that he the segment of his previous self that he had inherited was something more focused toward battle, but that thought quickly faded. With his energy so restricted, he didn’t have many options left- meaning that any of his own counterattacks would need to be careful, calculated. Or… or he could simply throw himself at his opponent and hope that he could somehow force the human onto his back foot. That option sounded like a pipe dream… but dreams were Aisling’s domain, and so he conducted himself just as such. The fae launched himself forward toward Kiryu, quickly closing the distance that he had just produced. Aisling began with a single jab, intended to strike the human upon his sternum- to hopefully drive the breath from him. Afterward, he gathered a small measure of ki within each hand and launched them forward, over and over again. Though they were small blasts, he hoped that the magical nature of his energy would sap enough of Kiryu’s strength to provide an opening. Honestly, though… Aisling hoped above all else that these attacks would actually land at all, damage be damned. wc: 773 etwc: 3599 BATTLE TRACKER DEFENSE PHASE

This much could be said for Aesling; he was not going to be taken out without a fight. The fae weathered Kiryu's attacks, though he was quite the worse for the wear afterwards, and then counter attacked. Oddly, the faerie seemed to be aware of what Kiryu had seen... until that moment he had not known whether it had been Aesling's memories he had seen, or if it had been some mystical vision born from the confluence of energies created from a clash between one of the Fair Folk and a powerful mortal spell caster. Kiryu clenched his jaw... he had started as nothing more than a simple warrior, and it seemed he had rapidly been thrust into a world of faeries and demons, monsters and spirits, gods and devils and eldritch entities so old that they had forgotten their own names. It was a world of power, of mantles, of belief and the power to rend the very fabric of reality to better suite your liking. It was in this way that mortals could become strong enough to strive against the very gods themselves, and be counted as equal. It was power that terrified Kiryu, for he had achieved potent magical abilities despite his ignorance of the font of his powers. With but the half mad memories from the ball of Baba, Kiryu had sufficient mastery to call one of the Sidhe. Kiryu thought it possible that had he wished to, he could have seriously injured or bound the fae, so easily did his martial and ki capabilities translate to proper magic. Kiryu was scared of what he could become now that he understood what his power was and from whence it came, for even the best of men were not immune to the temptation of power. Might makes right. Kiryu was so distracted by this reverie that he did not properly track all of Aesling's movements. He was struck twice, and felt weariness creep into his bones, slowing his movements. Kiryu made no move to properly defend himself; the blows struck against his ki armor, denting and damaging it's shell. It was only momentary, however, as it began to heal immediately, suffused with more of Kiryu's energy. Kiryu focused, then, utilizing his connection with Baba's ball to peer into the immediate future. He saw sequences of attack and defense from both himself and Aesling, and kept fixed in his mind the ones that were most likely to actually occur. Kiryu also fell into a more traditionally martial stance, bouncing on the balls of his feet and moving with more deliberate purpose. He attempted to fall into a rhythm, one that he would only truly be able to exploit once he had dodged more of Aesling's attacks, to better facilitate Kiryu's feel for the fight. To facilitate the flow of combat, Kiryu darted forward, looking to hamper Aesling even further. He targeted the Fae's pressure points again, this time aiming to make it more difficult for Aesling to summon ki for powerful attacks, and continue his systematic damaging of Aesling's soft tissues. Regardless of success, Kiryu would dash back, then narrow his eyes a bit. He focused and sent one of his trademark ki orbs towards Aesling, to track the faerie's movements and assist Kiryu's defense against attacks. Kiryu also focused, gathering his power. It was not a large, brash aura like many other martial artists, but still, something was clearly occurring. All around Kiryu, the world seemed to go still and quiet. The wind did not blow. The creatures of the land made no sound. The trees stood motionless as a well of untapped energy made itself available to Kiryu, and, for just a moment, Kiryu displayed the vast well of arcane might that was available to him. Kiryu still did not know why he was so powerful, but he did know that unless someone possessed strength to crush him like an insect, it would daunt even the hardiest of hearts and make him a harder target. Kiryu reeled for a moment as unexpected feelings hit him. Opening himself up to a flow of magic, here and now, proved far more difficult for Kiryu to process then he had anticipated. He staggered, then shook his head and turned his gaze towards Aesling, a fey light gleaming in his eyes. "Where are the Riders? They are called and called and called but they do not answer. Those that feared the Hunt now walk the world of stone and wood and iron. Is it any wonder that we no longer provide you offerings? You have failed us! By tooth and claw and blood did we forge our ancient compact and you leave us to the muck!" Kiryu shook his head again, grunting and reasserting control over himself. That had not been his voice. It had been deeper, more guttural... it had belonged to someone else. Without another word, Kiryu sank back into a defensive stance, waiting. He was disturbed... but he was discovering much about magic, and himself.

Aisling felt some of his blows connect, could sense their energy dissipating against the human’s body and then… little more. Sure, he experienced the surge of stolen energy from Kiryu, and was momentarily excited by the sharp increase in his own agility, but he was left to wonder… to what end? It was clear that he was outclassed, and the human possessed some devious means of shutting down the fae’s body at every turn. Losing at a game like this was not terrible by itself- just the experience of a slow defeat at the hands of someone who knew how to force one’s own musculature to betray them was… “ .... boring!” Aisling finished the thought aloud. The lad quite suddenly resigned himself to his fate and dropped to the ground- not to fall flat, but rather to sit. His legs and arms both crossed just before his eyes shut and his cheeks filled with air, “ You keep spoutin’ nonsense, and it ain’t any fun t’ play with you. I’m done!” The lad huffed, puffed, and slowly turned himself away from his opponent. Or… previous opponent, anyways. He remained as he was for several seconds before deciding, again, that even sitting there in protest was boring. How awful of a situation had he landed himself in-- the islanders were trying to kick him out again, the guy they hired to do it was too good to be fun to play with, and his attitude likely meant that he wouldn’t even be fun to rebel against out of sheer whimsy. Where did that leave them, then? Well, precisely nowhere good. Aisling finally rose back to his feet and snapped his gaze onto Kiryu. He planted one hand on his hip and jabbed a finger accusingly toward the human, eyes alight with the vigor that had so recently drifted away. There was clearly another game at foot- and if the lad’s sudden shift in demeanor was any indication, it certainly wasn’t going to end well for someone. “ That game was boring likes, so I quit. Don’t go thinkin’ you won, though! I just stopped playin’! But, see, you’re still tellin’ me that the dumb folk down by the beach don’t want me around likes, and you’ll probably keep tryin’ to do that weird as shite magic of yours if I stay, so… we’re goin’ t’ play something new! We’re gunna go on an adventure. So, chop chop, show me th’ way to the boat you was gunna cart me off in!” he snapped his fingers thrice as he spoke, apparently adopting some kind of princely attitude.
