It was an understatement to say that the loss of his first sword in the fires of the Two River’s Inn had colored Koma of the Bear Clan’s mood an especially dark color. Even as he trudged through the countryside of the Southlands, hundreds and hundreds of miles from his previous location, he was not happy with the situation. His very posture and method of movement was to be frank, off. The familiar weight of the sword at his side of slung over his back was gone and it made him move with a jittery hop sort of motion as he went forward.
He was without a sword, without a clan, without a lord, but not without a cause. While he was a decent fighter without his sword, he knew that he needed to practice the martial arts as a whole to make himself as much of a weapon as his weapons were- and he needed to find the materials and money to make his own sword. Buying a sword from someone else or earning a sword from someone else would not do. As he took every step, he considered this all.
It was still miles and miles before he was at the Capital of the World, the best place to find a job in the entire planet, Central City, but that didn’t put him down as he trudged through the pale brown dust of the northern southlands.
“It’s almost as if the land can’t decide if it is prairie or desert.” he thought to himself, chuckling for a moment as he continued down the road, but not actually allowing himself to laugh for more than a few minutes. Without a word, he continued on down the road until he started to get hungry. Then he got out his utility knife and started carving spears from wood he cut off of trees. It took a while, but when he was done he had three and combined with his years of living on the land and his natural above human abilities, in a few hours he had found and killed a nice, large, juicy boar. He had gutted it, cleaned the guts in a nearby steam, and then stuffed the offal into the intestines, making ready made sausages which h began to smoke over the fire while he spun the skinned boar’s head. Wild potatoes, wild onions, and other plants he had found were used in a stew which he used to cook the rest of the body except the hoofs until it was fall off the bone. The hoofs he saved for trading in a nearby village, stuffing them in an almost empty jar of sake to allow them to pickle.
He waited as his food cooked, sitting on a stump and thinking to himself. Was this all there was to life, really? The warrior’s son turned orphan turned would-be warrior turned warrior turned warlord turned outlaw sat in silence, the roaring bear of his clan’s mon clearly visible from the back of his vest as he waited in the slowly oncoming darkness.

After Melody helped Morel, one of the youngest Truffle villagers, the rest of the other villagers were confident in asking their newly appointed duchess additional requests. The first of many being the collection of desert mushrooms, which were white tall stalky tree-like mushrooms with a dense core that they wanted to cross breed with another variety, and again she was lured to the southern lands. With the stolen Ox-co delivery truck, the logo was slightly visible under the black spray paint, she would be able to bring back a large order of fresh desert mushrooms, and she rather enjoyed being tasked to venture out compared to staying guard. None of the villages were under any direct threat so it was the best opportunity to travel. It only took a day to cross the bridge connecting the Western Lands to the Southern. The desert being so vast across the horizon line the mushrooms were not so apparent from the distance, driving further south, the caps of the white stalks were finally in view. It was still daylight when Melody took an axe and cut down several thick white stalks. Each one took a rough fifteen minutes to get through depending on thickness of the trunk and she had to leverage each one into the back of the long truck bed which took about an hour to load as they were quite heavy. After a long day of work she looked into the cooler the villagers prepared expecting a lunch set but instead found things to cook with. Melody was not a chef to say the least, not without practice, and ultimately burned things under her nose if she miscalculated a step. Rather than attempt to cook anything she drove on, the sun setting from the west to the east, and it was beginning to get dark. The air was arid as it had not rained for a long time and as a result Melody could smell food nearby, she turned the wheel of the truck around using both hands in the direction of Koma, an unsuspecting individual with no semblance of who she was or came from. Parking the truck, Melody quietly removed the keys, picked up the small cooler, and walked over to fire spit with a large pot of stew that was still cooking. Opening the lid of the cooler, she took out two handfuls of beautiful golden Chanterelles, and tossed it in the stew followed by a stick of butter. There was nothing to be said, magic was happening in the stew, and the aroma that ignited the dry air allured the wild animals that were a variety of predators and herbivores. The Chanterelles added a woody yet peppery flavor to the meat and the butter softened the ingredients as well as thicken the stew like gravy. After a few minutes, Melody broke a large bread loaf in half, tossed one part of it to Koma, and kept the other. Quietly she served herself, as if nothing was a miss at all, and the awe struck Koma was left wondering who the hell this woman was. She was boldly eating half of what he made for himself. It would not just be an over exaggeration but a downright lie to call Koma the type to get mad about most interactions with people, however rude. Instead, he was generally happy-go-lucky when it came to running into passerby, up until they attacked him or tried to be rude to him. After this green haired woman added the mushrooms to the pot he just thought of her respecting the virtue of two traveler’s passing by one another, at least at first. When she helped herself to the food before allowing him, the one who had done the dragon’s share of the work, he allowed that as well. It was proving the mushrooms she had added were not poisonous but rather for flavor. When she helped herself to a second helping, he got up from the log and almost reached for a sheathed sword which was not there, the swordless samurai, the weaponless ronin just another martial artist without his sword. Wordlessly, he corrected his pose and helped himself to his half of the food before speaking up. “You‘re lucky that I‘m a genial enough person and your bread and mushrooms were filling. Otherwise we‘d have a fight on our hands over you trying to eat like you‘re starving when I did all the work and I might well be.” his stomach rumbled in agreement as he said it, before the warrior scarfed down the food in four or five rapid gulping bites and went for another helping- assuming there still was one. “Luck has nothing to do with it, I would have taken it whether you were genial or not.” Melody finished her bowl, “Have you ever starved near death? I have. I would never want anyone in this world to suffer that. Yet you threaten me with a fight? I don’t know who you think you are but I take that as a challenge, so get up.”
Melody stood up, drew out her steel sword, and a surge of energy radiated from deep within her very soul to power up; the aura caused her green hair to whip about wildly. Her right hand gripped the sword outwards like an extension of her arm, keeping her left fist near her breast, as the nail beds discolored with anticipation for hitting this fool as hard as she can at the first opportunity. It was unlike her to strike an opponent who was unprepared but she arched a brow expecting him to take responsibility for his empty assed words.

The dark haired wandering samurai was already up by the time he had said what he said, or at least moved to get up- and so he simply snorted. Some seconds after she was finished, and had drawn her sword, he chuckled and cocked his eyebrow. Simply powering up and drawing a sword? This woman was someone who actually knew how to fight the way real martial artists did, but the swordless ronin was not going to let his lack of weapon change the situation, however. Without a word, he shifted into a fighting stance, lifting his left hand in front of him with his arm straight as a pole and the combination of his hand and his arm making his outstretched limb out to be what amounted to a paddle of flesh, muscle, and bone. His right hand was near his stomach, the slate grey eyes of the warrior looking at her calculatingly as he did. "You don't know who I am, none the less who I think I am. So don't just assume that this fight is going to be easy just because of you having a sword and being some fancy something or another."He spat at the ground as he waited, pouring spiritual energy through his body to strengthen it for the fight. “I will show you fancy, maybe you will survive to retell the experience.”
Melody channeled her ki energy to the length of the blade of her sword, it began to steam from heat, the vapors of energy were hardly visible by the flames of the campfire that began to roar as it ignited all the branches Koma had set aside after it was left unattended in the short period of time; it was the only light source between them. However, she did not rely on her sight to see him, she could sense his energy shift in the same way she had done earlier, and she followed every inch of his movements by focusing on that surge of energy.
Taking a single step forward was all she needed to close the gap between them. With a flick of the wrist, Melody slashed at Koma’s chest with quick impulsive reflex and precision. The motion was angular from his left shoulder to the right side of his hip, and again from his right shoulder to the left side of his hip to complete the invisible X mark with all of her might.

As the heated blade of ki and steel sliced towards him, there was no dodging it and Koma knew that. He had not enough room in the confines of the cook fire’s area to do so and as such he did not even try. He instead pushed ki through his body and into his forearms, preparing to use them and twisting his body as he did to deflect the blows- but he was only really able to do so for the first one. The second special technique, surprising as it was to follow up like that, hit him square in the chest and sent him stumbling back. As he spat up blood he looked at her like an enraged bear or a truly fearless man for a moment before reaching into one of his jacket pockets and pulling out a vial he had come across in his travels. Without a word, he pulled the cork with his bloodied hands and gulped down a sip. As he re-corked it and re-pocketed it, the unknown descendant of Yajirobe’s arms began to heal rapidly. While there was still blood there and on his chest, the wounds mostly closed. He wobbled upon his feet and grinned. There was no way he could attack again before she did, but he was not about to run away either. This was his camp site and she was the one in the wrong. “Will you now? Huh. Melody had a smile of confidence when her aim was true but her opponent was quite formidable in resisting the first wave of the sword while her second attack successfully sliced him across the chest. The sight of his blood riled her up, she almost thirsted for it, yet he was still standing long enough to drink something she had never seen before her violet colored eyes. The heart Stroke sword attack had its limits, she could only use it twice between a long rest, but with Koma still injured there was no reason to stop pressing him with her sword until the fight was won.
For years she trained beginning with her childhood, while she grew up into an adult she was constantly fighting against different opponents in order to ascend to a higher opposition, and Koma made it known that she needed to surpass him first to gain the experience necessary to one day reach her goal of world domination. After draining almost all of her ki she powered up again to restore more of it by focusing the energy back into her body after expelling it.
In one single movement, Melody extended her tightened balled fist to punch Koma in the face followed by a sword slash sweep at his ankles in an attempt to drop him.

Koma grinned maniacally as she continued her strikes. Something made him feel, from her physical reaction at least, that that was her best shot. Which meant that hurt and bleeding as he was, this was not over just yet. The swordless Samurai still had a chance. So without another word, he pushed spiritual energy through his legs and skidded backwards and to the side, dodging the strikes without issue and making himself flash an even larger grin at her before her. He did not bother to circulate spiritual energy through his body yet again, the dark haired samurai trying to conserve his spiritual energy for the moment. He waited for a moment before chuckling, “I thought you were going to show me fancy moves, miss? Even with your sword you can’t take me out?” He then tensed his body forward and threw a knee upwards and his balled fists together downwards to try to strike doubly. “You know very well that I would have ended the fight had you not defended yourself!” The moment Melody missed one of the attacks, she expected that Koma to use that opportunity to strike, retreating a few steps back she raised a left forearm for the incoming reprieve. Koma’s knee made contact, it was hard enough that it would shatter a bone on an average human, the second strike forced her to concentrate her focus on every move he made. Her violet eyes widened from the sharp pain she felt when he bashed her sideways; forcing her to regain her balance on her feet from impact. “That’s the obvious thing for anyone to do. Have you really swung that strike at someone and they did not defend themselves?” the dark haired warrior said, incredulous at the mere idea of it all. When she spun and swung back at him the human-saiyan hybrid once again focused spiritual energy through his body and rolled for a moment, blocking the strike with a counter punch to the flat of the blade before pulling back to power up yet again. After focusing his energy through his body and powering up, he once again threw himself at her, this time aiming to kick her shoulder. “Only those who are slow to react.” Trumpet was her first victim of the searing sword strike, she named it heart stroke shortly after he suffered a stroke from the loss of blood from his injury, and had been mastering the technique ever since. It was then that she took over Truffle village and it would injure her pride if she lost her fight against Koma. Glacier had taught her everything he knew about swordsmanship and she relied on it now that she expended her best technique. Melody recovered more of her ki as she focused to restore it. Koma rushed her with a kick on the shoulder which soiled her white vest and bruised her skin beneath it instantly. As she responded at that, something akin to righteous fury built up in Koma's chest. The mere idea of doing such a thing, of fighting someone you knew you obviously outclassed and not holding back? It was infuriating. So after he kicked her and his leg was dropping he threw himself backwards with spiritual energy powered muscles. Throwing all his weight on his fingertips and using them to catapult him out of the way of the strike, at least momentarily.
"You really need a lesson as to how a real martial artist acts." he said as his movement out of her sword swipe finished and he landed on the tips of his toes. Without another word or a moment's hesitation he was throwing his body at her for another series of punches and kicks after saying that.
Koma had spent far too long fighting and learning what a real martial artist was supposed to be like to be okay with someone wantonly abusing their kami given power.
