Thankfully – Misaki did not capitalise on how much Maxine was short-circuiting, and so she was given a precious few moments to compose herself. More than enough for a true professional, of course! She was a machine, you see?! Perfect efficiency, no stray thoughts; just a mission and its parameters! Suggesting that she was some flowery maiden with her head in the clouds… was ridiculous! When the time came – she would not spend time staring at flowers, obviously! S-So, she should just – talk like always!!!
”Oh, I most certainly understand. Free time… as you can imagine, for a machine, it is a little hard for me to understand. There’s always work that needs to be done.” replied Maxine with haste unlike her thus far; blatantly trying to bury herself in the new topic to get away from the rest. It became even more pitiful as she stumbled over one of the roots of the Tree of Might, which stretched on and outward for so long – yet, even with the canopy looming over them like a skyscraper, the yakuza pro still couldn’t pay enough attention to her own feet. ”In many ways – it’s like a garden! You offer the right sustenance, you prune the right leafs, and you prepare the right presentation… there’s always more you can do, for today and tomorrow as well. Ah, but… I am merely a piece of the process, not some conductor. I’m not so good at metaphors… d-does that make me a bird? Or maybe a dog… eh, but, as a machine, maybe it’s more like a sprinkler…”
Unfortunately, she couldn’t hide behind metaphor for long. Well, unfortunately for Maxine. She’d merely nod along gently as Misaki mused on the matter of stubbornness and the unexpected future, having heard this words before sometime – err, aside from that last comment! The contrast between Maxine’s expression silently admiring the grand tree’s trunk and when she was caught off-guard was – colourful, though mostly pink or red. She’d been around the smooth-talking Shinobu look enough to pick up on this and that! ”E-Eh, well, while it is certainly business to be o-on good terms… s-so far, I have…” begun the girl, before trailing off poignantly… ”That is – you are clearly far, far more skilled than me in matters of gardening. I’ve – your company, even without discussing it very much, has been enlightening. I always considered it through the lens of flower arranging; a matter of a light touch… but, I can see that you put in strength where it is needed, too. It is… perhaps, a reflection of your wholeheartedness…”
Maxine would totally trail off after that, clearly unable to put the right words together. The way the work captured Misaki’s whole self was not something she could say correctly – not without diminishing Misaki’s efforts.
The subject of alcohol, though – that she could speak on. ”It does have a tendency to bring out – a different kind of person. But, if it’s dangerous… it’d be better with people you don’t know, I believe. No expectation of hospital visits.” remarked Maxine, all cool and suave while the matter was squarely in her field of expertise. That didn’t last long, though. ”E-Escort, is it? That is… within my usual work, yes…” She swiftly descended into mere mumbling. It certainly was within her profession, but… doing such work for the Princess was quite different to – this. ”It is… it’s the suit, isn’t it? Hm, though, I’m unsure if I’d be wearing that at the Flying Monkey, or the maid outfit…”
”…ignore that last part! I’m not like Juniper!”
