Appearance: At a casual glance, Alaric is nothing special to look at; a young, slender framed boy stinding at about 5'8" with wiry muscles. He has a shock of chestnut hair on top of his head that he usually keeps well styled; his large brown eyes are almost the same shade of brown as his hair. His face is a bit sharp angled but he has a ready and friendly smile that softens the severity. He tends to wear casual clothing, jeans and tee shirts or an occasional button up shirt. He owns two gis - one bearing a vibrant green leaf and one with the symbol of the wolf fang fist.
Personality: Alaric is a friendly lad who lacks self confidence as of yet. He is devoted to his friends and stubbornly defends any cause he takes up as his own. He feels the shadow of his famous ancestor Yamcha looming over him at times, as his mom keeps telling tales about him and the Z fighters, and the honor they have to strive for to uphold the bloodline of the family. He sincerely tries to train as well as he can, but he finds that his emotions often overwhelm his technique while fighting.
History: Alaric is the son of Isaac and Yaara Sharpe. He had a fairly normal childhood, until his mom started teaching him martial arts when he was 7. She had always told him tales of "Great great gramps Yamcha - and filled his head with the wonderful tales of the Z fighters. So he eagerly soaked in her teaching, even the parts that maybe were not the best for a child. He learned to fight, he learned to be aggressive and to strike first, hard, and with extreme prejudice.
Despite this, he was not mean spirited enough to take up being a bully, though he delighted in thoroughly defeating the few fools who tried to pick on him because of his small size. In high school he got caught loudly threatening someone who was bullying on of his friends before he summarily beat the crap out of them. He was assigned to undertake anger management, and was assigned to attend Master Nori's Way of the Leaf school as a compliment to his martial arts background in the hopes he would listen to him. Currently he goes to classes there 3 days a week, but soon he is graduating high school, and he pllans to go out and see the world. How can he make a change in the world like his great gramps if he is stuck in a small town in the Central lands after all?
RP Sample: "Picture a leaf, swaying in the breeze. It is alone on its branch. The leaf offers no harm to the world, simply dances in the breeze and absorbs the light of the sun... You are this leaf..."
Al was sitting on a worn mat, legs crossed as he meditated, listening to master Nori's words. He tried to picture the leaf, an emerald trefoil leaf swaying in a gentle breeze, offering no violence but simply accepting what came its way. It seemed... more than a little alien.
"The leaf offers no violence. It seeks no conflict, it seeks merely to be. As you must seek to be. Seek to enjoy your life as it comes to you, young Alaric."
Alaric let the words flow through his mind and contemplated them; they were so much different than what his mother had been teaching him his whole life. Hit first, hit harder was more along the lines of what she taught. Almost unbidden, words sprang forth from his mouth, "But Master Nori, what if someone attacks your friends? Is defending yourself not allowed?"
His master turned back to him and bowed his head for a moment as he considered his pupil's question. A rumbling echoed in his throat as he considered his answer and then finally replied, "Sometimes it is necessary to let go of the peace of the leaf for the greater good."
He raised his hand and clenched it into a fist holding it before Alaric's face before relaxing and opening the hand, offering to help him up, "It is also important to take the leaf back up when the necessity of violence has passed."
Alaric accepted the hand and pulled himself up to stand before Master Nori, then bowed.
"I will keep your words in mind... I grew up learning to let my anger go... it is hard to rein it in now."
"The Wolf Fang Style harnesses that aggression and uses it to power their style; it is the very antithesis of what I teach here, Alaric. I look forward to your lessons here and what you could become, but soon you must choose. You must either learn to be a wolf and run with your fury or learn to harness peace and embrace the way of the leaf. You don't have to decide now... but you should definitely start thinking about it. That is enough for the day, take the rest of the afternoon off. You've earned it."
With a small smile, the grey haired master turned and left Al to wander slowly back towards the locker room, considering the words he had just received. He reached his locker and quickly rotated the dials to his combination and popped the lock open. He opened his duffel bag and grabbed his jeans and tee shirt out, quickly swapping them out for his gi before he folded it and placed it into the bag, the symbol of the leaf on the back proudly displayed next to the one that bore the symbol for the Wolf Fang. He stared at the two symbols for some time, the words echoing in his mind, The Wolf or the leaf? The Wolf or the Leaf? Some time soon he would have to choose, but not today. He zipped up the bag and threw the strap over his shoulder. It was time to head home.
