History:
Flare
Flare was born upon one of many scattered active volcanically active islands of the southern islands. While a far cry from the fame of Mount Kiwi, the island housed one of the last great fire temples, where some of the very last Sun Scions were raised and honed their skill. Though in isolation from the world, it had a sizeable village full of aspiring earthlings and fire demons alike. For the Distinct as it was from the developing world. The Sun Pupils as these students are called would spend the mornings sparing in the rising suns, the noons doing physical training around their volcano, and the long evenings perched up in the temples towards the sun. To meditate and reflect on their day, and those to come after. Most full-fledged Sun Scions stayed out of any business of the world, preferring their peaceful lives of seclusion. Mostly.
Flare was nothing special among her young pupils, especially among her more promising peers. The young brat was probably one of the more unprecedentedly rowdy kids who could not sit still to save her life. Her discipline was weak, her prowess in the Sun Scion's martial form not enough to make up for it. Yet, she was still one of them. And through her young years, through the ass beatings from spars and otherwise, it was her home. Her family of ten, mostly sisters and her parents with an odd younger brother, was caring and patient on her behalf. Her father, while not 100% impressed with her, still loved her. Sometimes going out of his way to give the girl extra lessons. But-
They came out of nowhere. The sudden invasion woke the entire island abruptly in the night, a powerful presence stalking over their island. It was so dark, so long ago, the young teen Flare could barely recollect anything about the perpetrators themselves. They came in that dark camouflage, sneaking into their homes whilst the Scions slept. The battle was brutal from the get-go, and Flare's immediate family was target number one. By some miracle, Flare found refuge inside an old cave digging into their volcano to wait out the storm. When she came back to her village, all that was there was ruin. The temples, both the surface and volcanic dwellings, everything. Turned to rubble from blaster, debris, and other mayhem. Among the ruins were some of the surviving old masters who took the young girl and fled from their home. Opting to settle closer to one of the southern island towns. Much was kept from the last sun pupil, and eventually, it'd be just a single master, Master Blaze, with his new wife and the now adopted Flare settling together. It had been decided after the incident that they should all lay low and separate as to not attract more unsavory types.
Since then Flare has lived in close proximity to South City. Having picked up an apprenticeship as a metal worker and eventual engineer since outside of that she had not gone to a proper earthling school. It was a slow process, but the woman eventually fell into city life. Her older life past, the young Sun Scion trained and honed herself much more conservatively and secretly with Blaze. Nowadays her passions between tech work and her martial arts training have collided. Finding time to do a lot of both was strained. Only one paid consistently and genuinely piqued her interest at every corner, yet another was her entire culture and life. Maybe life would eventually choose for her. Honestly, she still has so many questions.

"Ahh! Help!-"
The muffled cries of a mature human were quickly stifled by a very direct hand over the mouth. Deep in one of the many alleyways of the housing districts, this older gentleman was being held gunpoint by a mugger. A thug in all senses of the word. The man's burly stature could probably let him get away with talking down to this man with muscle alone. That little cry from his victim only made him angrier as he jostled the man around against a wall.
"Can it. You should know how this works. You step into our territory, you get fined for loitering. Now cough up the money, I know you got some on you. Old Geezer."
Flare was just on her way back from a shopping trip, having gone out in her very comfortable casuals while easily handling the few bags she had stuffed full of veggies, milk, and other fresh produce. Her new maintenance job was paying the bills well enough so she also was spoiling herself a bit with a few snack foods. If it weren't for that little squeak from the old man she'd not have stopped herself at the sidewalks right next to that winding alleyway. A few other civilians bumped past her as she stared into it. A little aggravated, she'd pull a bit away from the crowd and into that dark side of the city. FOr once, she felt a strange unease about something here. Not a fear, but distress. Someone was needing help.
"Ehh. I've got time to be a good samaritan. Just hope Master doesn't chew me out for stayin' out a little longer than usual."
It was a bit strange to be carrying groceries through here. Rightfully caught the attention of a few people dumping stuff in their dumpsters. Though, on a second look, they seem more on edge about it than anything. The young flame was a bit too distracted for that, however. As she turned the corner and came in step just to the side of this mugging scene.
"I am not asking again, old man. Pay up."
The whimpers and general movement between the two stopped as they both turned their heads towards Flare. Who at this point had set her bags down and sighed, crossing her arms under her chest. Mere presence alone seemed not annoy the bigger thug. Instead, he just grinned with some half-hearted chuckle through teeth.
"Ooooh. It looks like we've got a couple of trespassers now. The boss was looking forwards to a fresh meal anyways. You can just give me those bags and your money, and be on your merry way girl."
The gun had pulled away from the older man and was now pointed squarely at the fire girl. Phasing her not, Flare just shook her head and leaned up against the alley wall. She knew best how to get under these hardheads, even if he tried sounded sophisticated.
"Nah. I don't think you're doin' anythin', pipsqueak. I'll give ya like, ten seconds to drop the man, give me the gun, and crawl back under whatever rock you got out from under... Ten...-"
The arms uncrossed enough to very plainly display the ten fingers up to him. Slowly counting down both aloud and on her fingers. Now that pissed him off. He'd ruffle the man up against the wall some more with one arm and swing the gun at her some more. Raising his voice some more.
"Now listen here girly! I'm the one making demands here, drop on your knees and maybe I'll!-"
"Nine... Eight... Seven...-"
She started taking slow steps towards him, making the man grunt and slam the man against the wall. Painful, but the guy didn't do much other than cry a little from impact.
"lady, I'm warning you one last time, don't make me-"
"Six... Five-
The loud crack and expansion of gas echoed through the winding back alley as a gunshot is made from the handgun. Smoke chasing the barrel tip as Flare lurches forward and groans as it makes an impact with her lower chest. Covering herself and shaking at her feet. The old man seemed even more distressed than the firey lady was, suddenly flailing and begging the man to just take it all and let him go. A sigh leaves the thug's old mug as he shakes his head.
"Ya didn't follow orders, stupid girl. The locals should really know better than to get in between the Don and his money. Hurry up and give me the shit, man!-"
The man had turned his attention and gun back on the mugged dude for a second just before something from Flare caught him way off base. Causing him to tense up.
"Zero..."
"Huh? HUH!? AHHH! -"
Flare had not only gotten back up, standing straight with no visible damage aside from a bullet hole in her shirt, but she had already closed in on the thug a mere moment after she declared her timer to have run out. A flaming fist coming out as she strikes at the man's chest once. Enough to get him properly turned before licking him with a wide swinging kick. More flames bouncing off the young flame's strikes as he went flying down the alley like his own speeding bullet. His own flaming, speeding bullet. Flare collected herself quickly and decided to make sure the old man was alright, patting him down a little like he was dusted up from that mugger.
"Come on. Ya should really not be up around here. I'll follow ya out."
It was just a matter of picking her groceries back up and making sure the man took lead towards his destination. That random Don Thug left laid out on the ground with some scuff marks on his used-to-be nice clothing. Groaning at the swift defeat. The young flame eventually waved the old guy off with a smile and went about her merry way. It was a strange catharsis, helping people like that from some brutes. She was happy with herself. Unlike some people.
"What is this?"
Master Blaze had stopped Flare in the kitchen as she was in the middle of putting groceries away, poking at the hole in her cropped shirt with a long, intricate cane. To try brushing it off quickly, the young flame just giggled and batted the cane away like she was being tickled.
"Whoa, hey, don't do that! It feels funny~"
"Flare!"
It didn't work, as the batted cane was just slammed down on the kitchen floor with a loud thud. Causing the pupil to stand up straight with a sigh. It wasn't over for her just yet, she'd just have to say the right words...
"Ohh! Come on, okay? I got it hung on a fence post on the way home!"
"Flare..."
"Dog chased me?"
"..."
He could smell that bullshit. Just standing there with squinted eyes. With a shake of Flare's head, she stopped putting some cans up and stood there to face him. Grabbing at one arm's elbow with the other and rubbing it.
"Oh come on Master, it wasn't much. Just stopped some mugger from threatening an old man."
The master now crossed his own arms, leaning down to get more eye level with his pupil. Reading her expressions before shaking his head.
"And you got shot at."
"It was nothin'! I burned his ass after-"
That made his expressions sour very suddenly. And now, Flare was the one jumping as something unexpected caught her off guard. Stamping the can again as he got in her face.
"You did what!?"
"Made sure the guy learned a lesson! What, I didn't scar him or nothin'!"
That didn't quell the master's anger, but he did straighten back up away from her face and went into a full scowl.
"That's not the point, Flare. You showed yourself in public using your element? Our teachings?"
Now it was Flare's time to get defensive, a small flick of flame licking from her head of hair as she shook her head.
"No! Like, two people saw me! One of them being that stupid mugger!"
"Okay, and yet you still flagrantly ignored my demands to not use such things in public? Do you realize how dangerous that is?"
"What do you want me to do!? Sit around and let old guys get mugged? What's the point of even knowing this all and bein' spiritual if I never use it!"
"Flare! Enough! We've already had this talk!"
He was probably used to some resistance, but Blaze really couldn't see the young flame suddenly blowing up to him about his silly demands like that. So he'd go back to the tried and true commandeering master talk, shouting her name again to get her to calm down. It actually seemed to have the opposite effect. She started stomping away furiously, already making headway towards their small living room and towards the door.
"Yeah, I know, and it sucked ass! All your talks always suck. Ya never let me do anything with myself!"
"Flare, that's not what I'm meaning by doing all this, I'm just trying to-"
"Yeah yeah, tryin' ta protect me. Blah blah blah, I have heard that spiel since we got here! I'm not that little girl anymore... Ugh, I'm going for a walk."
Slam! The door to the house slides open and is forced shut very forcibly by an angry Flare. Muffled yells heard from behind it by Blaze before she walked off into the lowering dusk. There had to be more to do than sitting around all day and be taught how to meditate, but better!

Special Techniques
SUN STRIKE
An ancient Sun Scion technique, said to be passed down from some of the first ifrits to their followers. It takes the energy and warmth from the sun and amplifies the fiery spirit within. In the brightest of noons or the darkest of nights, the user takes a deep breath and pulls a leg/fist back. Shrouding it in whatever light their spirit or world has to offer. This bright burning light clings to the body, wrapping its small flames around the user's preferred limb like small solar flares. Hitting with the Sun Strike is said to pack the energy and wrath of the sun as contact makes the flame explode outwards in a blinding haze of red. Burns are expected.
Type: Physical/Energy Melee Single
Action: Standard Action
Base Damage: 3d10
Major Effect:
Embolden: After using this technique, increase your Accuracy modifier with all Basic Techniques by +10 for 2 turns; this does not compound with itself.
Minor Effect:
Imbued: This technique is now a Melee Energy attack and uses the Fighting Skill to determine its Accuracy, but increases its Ki cost by 2. This may be added alongside another Minor Effect, but may not be taken with Projectile.
Searing: This technique has a 40% chance to inflict Burn on hit, Energy Attacks only.
Cost: 17 Ki
