Travel & Radiant Missions
In the world of Dragon Ball: Broken Destiny, we want to both make sure the roleplay resembles classic Dragon Ball as much as possible. We want you to focus on your journey, and make sure that player choices like vehicles or investing in the flying technique are well rewarded investments. As such we have a rules system for making sure your character is traveling at a fair pace.
Lands
The world of Dragon Ball: Broken Destiny is vast, and to make it easier to determine where you are in any given thread, we’ve broken that map into 7 “Lands”. Lands are large areas of the world similar to continents. Lands aren’t singular ecosystems or areas. They aren’t owned by any one faction or any one person, except in very specific examples. They may encompass a number of conflicting kingdoms, animals types, land and water features. The seven Lands are:
Northern Lands: This sprawling, often frigid northern wilderness is surprisingly filled with life. Dotted throughout it are various Crane Hermit settlements, as well as the likes of North City and Jingle Village. To the far northwest, on an almost arctic island, lie the Northern Demon Kingdoms.
Central Lands: Watch out for the misnomer, the Central Lands are closer to the West than they are central, and host West City and the middle-ground area known as the Western Free Lands: a semi-lawless zone of independent settlements that separates the demon kingdoms from the cities in the west. Be careful when heading east through this land.
Eastern Lands: A mountainous region containing a multitude of different strongholds and palaces. Mount Frying Pan, Mount Paozu, the far eastern lands of the continent, East City, and Orange Star City all make up the Eastern Lands.
Western Lands: A wild, mystical edge of the continent, where demons, witches, and shapeshifters roam. People often go on pilgrimages into this mostly untamed assortment of baronies for various faith or healing reasons. They claim if you’re lucky, you can even find the tower of the gods! Baba Yaga's Domain, Kami's Territory, the Pig Demon Duchies, the western sections of the World Government aligned territories all make up what we consider the Western Lands.
Southern Lands: The most diverse Land, the Southern Lands have the most varied wilderness, and the largest number of conflicting loyalties. It is a good idea to keep your allegiances close to the chest in this land, as you never know who might be supporting your enemy. This also makes it an excellent place for trade, however, as goods can easily flow from many different cultures. Central City, the Great Central Plains, the Great Desert, the Ox Kingdom, and the Southern Demonlands all make up this land.
Pilaf Land: Carved out of the southernmost tip of the Southern Mainlands, Pilaf Land is a sight to see! The fabulous theme-park and its surrounding territories, the central focus of Pilaf Industries, it all is centered here in Pilaf-Land. Get your red star hat and your pointy ears, it's time to go to the land where magic never ends!
Southern Islands: The Southern Sub-Continental Island, often called just ‘the Southern Islands’ is dominated by Papaya Island, the home of South City. The islands form a loose connection with one another despite being largely independent, since this region also hosts other famous tourist and pilgrimage locations, including Kame House Island.
Steps and Travel Requirements
When moving through the world in Dragon Ball: Broken Destiny, we measure your journey in Steps. No, not literal footsteps. Steps are a measurement of distance. Lands that are touching are usually 1 Step apart. If they aren’t touching, they are usually 2 Steps apart. If they are exceptionally far away, they may be 3 Steps apart.
For every Step of travel you take from your current location, you need to write 1000 Words of Travel. So if you are traveling 2 Steps, that’s 2000 Words, and so on. You make these posts in the Travel Forum, located under the other locations. Once you’ve written the required amount of words, you have arrived in your new destination, and may immediately begin roleplaying in your new Land. There are no approvals needed to notify a change of Land, as long as you’ve written the words required.
If you’re unsure how many Steps a Land is from another Land, use this handy guide below:
Northern Lands Steps: It is 1 Step from the Northern Lands into the Central Lands, the Eastern Lands, and the Southern Lands. It is 2 Steps from the Western Lands and Pilaf Land. It is 3 Steps from The Southern Islands.
Central Lands Steps: It is 1 Step from the Central Lands into the Northern Lands, the Southern Lands, the Western Lands, and the Southern Islands. It is 2 Steps from the Eastern Lands and Pilaf Land.
Eastern Lands Steps: It is 1 Step from the Eastern Lands into the Northern Lands, the Southern Lands, Pilaf Land, and the Southern Islands. It is 2 steps from the Central Lands. It is 3 steps from the Western Lands.
Western Lands steps: It is 1 Step from the Western Lands into the Central Lands and the Southern Islands. It is 2 Steps from the Northern Lands and the Southern Lands. It is 3 Steps from the Eastern Lands and Pilaf Land.
Southern Lands Steps: It is 1 Step from the Southern Lands into the Northern Lands, the Central Lands, the Eastern Lands, Southern Islands and Pilaf Land. It is 2 Steps from the Western Lands.
Pilaf Land Steps: It is 1 Step from Pilaf Land into the Southern Lands and the Southern Islands. It is 2 Steps from the Northern Lands, the Eastern Lands, and the Central Lands. It is 3 Steps from the Western Lands.
Southern Islands Steps: It is 1 Step from the Southern Islands into The Central Lands, The Southern Lands, The Eastern Lands, the Western Lands, and Pilaf Land. It is 2 Steps from The Northern Lands.
Alternate Means of Travel
As you advance through the world in Dragon Ball: Broken Destiny, you may discover new and unique methods of traveling through different lands. These methods will change the way you approach your Travel Thread, or might eliminate the need for one altogether!
Vehicles: If you possess a vehicle, or a technique that reduces your travel time, your words may be shorter than what is listed. Such vehicles may change the total number of Steps you travel, or may affect the words written directly. Remember! You only gain the benefit of using a vehicle if you roleplay using that vehicle in your Travel Thread. It’s not enough to simply have it in your inventory if you don’t use it!
Effort Points: If you don’t have the time to write a Travel Thread, or your character is pushing through a zone as fast as possible, you may use Effort Points to reduce the number of words you need to write. For each Effort Point spent, you can reduce your word’s required by 1. So if you need to move 1 Step, you can write 1000 Words, or spend 1000 Effort Points. If you receive discounts from a Vehicle, they can apply here as well, and reduce the total number of Effort Points you need to spend.
Leisure Travel: Sometimes you don’t need to rush. There’s no need to push your way through your adventures, and you have time to just kick back and relax. That’s when you summon up some Leisure Travel. For 25,000z per Step, you can take a luxury ride to your new destination. When using Leisure Travel, you are not required to post ANY words in you Travel Thread. Just post indicating where you are going and that you are using Leisure Travel, subtracting the required Zeni. You are, however, required to wait 5 days IRL before arriving in your new Land. Luxury Travel is comfortable, not fast. You can flavor your Leisure Travel however you’d like (train, elephant caravan, luxury cruise) and after you finish your travel, a player who uses Leisure Travel gets a 25% increase on all EP gains in their first thread in their new Land for being “Well Rested”. If your Leisure Travel can make use of your personal vehicles, they can also apply their discounts to the time it takes to travel. Perhaps you take a sightseeing tour on your nimbus, or use your motorbike with a friendly bike gang, taking a trip down Route 666 for a few days. If you can roleplay it effectively, you can apply your discounts and still received the “Well Rested” bonus!
Travel Threads
Anytime you post a travel notice in the Travel Forum, this is called a Travel Thread. Travel Threads can be anything you’d like them to be. You can post a Personal Saga as a Travel Thread, perhaps of your adventures or sightseeing as you Travel. You can use your Travel Thread as part of a mission, chasing an enemy across different Lands to achieve your goal. Your words written as part of your Travel Thread can apply to your mission or bounty! You could even get into a fight as part of your Travel Thread, turning what would be a quick hop over the border into a big deal! Travel Threads accrue EP, Treasure Rolls, and Zeni just like any other thread. Traveling is part of your adventure. You can always write more than you are required to Travel, and gain rewards just as if you’d written a large post in any other thread, but you must always meet your minimum words required to successfully travel. You are allowed to travel in groups! If you do, each player must make their minimum word count. Go camping with other players and see the world together!
Anytime you begin a Travel Thread you are required to post some information at the beginning of your first post, so your Travel Thread can be properly graded for rewards.

Radiant Missions
Traveling isn’t always a guaranteed venture. Sometimes when you travel, disaster may strike! Or you may find a friendly old man who can help you along your journey. The randomness of adventuring through the world is represented here in Radiant Missions. Radiant Missions are random acts that have a chance to trigger any time you successfully travel. Radiant Missions can be as simple as being asked to give some money to a beggar, or can be as complex as a full on stat battle in the middle of the desert when raiders attack you! Radiant Missions are always a surprise, and always have rewards for their completion.
Radiant Missions occur when you successfully complete a Travel Thread. In addition to your normal rewards, you may be offered a Radiant Mission. Radiant Missions are offered by random chance, with dice rolls the staff make at the conclusion of each Travel Thread. If you are offered a Radiant Mission you may choose whether or not to accept it. You are never forced to do a Radiant Mission. Sometimes you are rushing to the aid of your comrade and just don’t have time to complete a Radiant Mission. NOTE: You can only be in one Radiant Mission at a time. So if you are still in your Radiant Mission, you cannot receive a new one at the end of a Travel Thread.
The details of a Radiant Mission are a secret. They are also determined randomly, and you won’t know what your mission entails until you accept or decline it. That’s the mystery of travelling the world. You never know what you’ll run into! Sometimes the Radiant Missions will be Gmed, with a staff member playing an NPC and interacting with you. Other times, you may be given a simple goal, and left to write the required words on your own. Either way, successfully completing a Radiant Mission will usually offer a slightly above average reward for taking on the random chance of the situation. For all other rewards, Radiant Missions are treated as “Mission” threads, unless specified otherwise. You can find the normal rewards for Mission Threads in the basic rulebook.
