RPG WRITING BASICS
Dragon Ball: Broken Destiny is a story-based, literary role playing game where you gain experience, and strength the more you write. IC posts should be PRIMARILY IC, and only IC writing (IE; not OOC notes, formatting, or the like) should be accounted for when it comes to word counts for gains. Additionally, plagiarized content is not allowed on this board.
Each thread type has its own reward structure, find out about the details below!
You may be in up to a total of four (4) threads simultaneously.
Personal Sagas
Personal Sagas are the least structured of thread-types found on DB:BD-- they can contain anything from a simple conversation to raiding a tomb for treasures! Personal Sagas are unique in that they are the only thread type whose rewards are solely based on word counts. Further, these threads receive a greater bonus from multiplayer participation- making this your best bet if you just want to sit down and write your heart out, especially with friends! If that wasn’t enough to tempt you into some Personal Sagas, Personal Sagas are the only thread type that grant treasure rolls as a standard bonus!
Every 1 word rewards 1 EP and every 10 words rewards 1 PL. Receive an additional 10% EP and PL rewards for each additional player participating in a Personal Saga, to a maximum of +50%.
Every 2000 words in a Personal Saga awards 1 bonus Treasure Roll, to a maximum of 10 Treasure Rolls per week.
Missions : dragonballbd.proboards.com/thread/336/mission-board
Missions are adventures which are driven by the players but guided by an initial prompt given by the staff. Missions are designed to be quite rewarding to do in either solo or in a group. When doing a mission with multiple players, each player’s word counts contribute to the mission’s requirement- meaning it’s a wholly collaborative effort! Additionally, some missions may contain unique rewards only obtainable by completing a mission. Missions may be done only once per character. You may be in up to one (1) Missions at a time.
1 Star Missions: 2000 Word Requirement. Rewards 2,000 EP and 100 PL by default.
2 Star Missions: 4000 Word Requirement. Rewards 4,200 EP and 200 PL by default.
3 Star Missions: 6000 Word Requirement. Rewards 6,400 EP and 300 PL by default.
4 Star Missions: 8000 Word Requirement. Rewards 8,600 EP and 400 PL by default.
5 Star Missions: 10,000 Word Requirement. Rewards 11,000 EP and 600 PL by default.
6 Star Missions: 12,000 Word Requirement. Rewards 13,000 EP and 800 PL by default.
7 Star Missions: 14,000 Word Requirement. Rewards 16,000 EP and 1,000 PL by default.
Bounties : dragonballbd.proboards.com/thread/56/kdrac-doc-peppers-bounty-board
Where Missions are adventures which are player driven from an initial prompt given by staff, Bounties are adventures which BEGIN as player driven adventures guided by an initial prompt by staff, but are followed by a stat battle after the required words are completed. Bounties follow the same basic word/reward/ranking scheme as Missions, though the difficulty of the opponent(s) you battle varies based on the rank of the Bounty you are pursuing. Bounties award a bit less raw EP than their mission counterparts, but generally reward more PL as well as Zeni. Once a bounty has been taken, it cannot be taken again by another player(or set of players) unless the original player(s) fail. Bounties are potentially lethal, so please be aware of what you are signing up for when you take a bounty! Bounties do not award Life/Death Battle thread rewards. You may be in up to one (1) Bounty at a time.
1 Star Bounty: 2000 Word Requirement. Rewards 1,500 EP, 250 PL, and 20,000 Zeni by default.
2 Star Bounty: 4000 Word Requirement. Rewards 3,000 EP, 500 PL, and 40,000 Zeni by default.
3 Star Bounty: 6000 Word Requirement. Rewards 4,500 EP, 750 PL, and 60,000 Zeni by default.
4 Star Bounty: 8000 Word Requirement. Rewards 6,000 EP, 1,000 PL, and 80,000 Zeni by default.
5 Star Bounty: 10,000 Word Requirement. Rewards 8,000 EP, 1,300 PL, and 120,000 Zeni by default.
6 Star Bounty: 12,000 Word Requirement. Rewards 10,000 EP, 1,500 PL, and 160,000 Zeni by default.
7 Star Bounty: 14,000 Word Requirement. Rewards 12,000 EP, 2,000 PL, and 200,000 Zeni by default.
Events
Where Personal Sagas are all in the hands of players, Events are the Gamemaster equivalent of Personal Sagas. Events are things which may be a surprise if a player asks for such a thing, or might be an event of story arc multiple players sign up for, ahead of time. They might be battles, they might be hunting down a big threat which would be too much for one player, they might be a simple story about a fishing village. It’s up to the Gamemaster, but because of the nature of them they have increased rewards for players- as it takes longer times and greater effort for players to participate in Gamemastered Arcs, missions, or events. You may be in up to one (1) Event at a time.
Events reward 1 EP for every 1 word and 1 PL for every 10 words written, plus a static 1,000 EP and 100 PL for every 10 posts made, cumulative across all players. Event Posts gain no rewards for words after 1,000 words are reached in each individual post, though you may receive bonus rewards from your GM for exceptional effort or quality.
World Sagas
Some Events are so large in scale that a normal Event can't do them justice. World Sagas inevitably have an impact on the narrative arc of the game as a whole. World Sagas are run by teams of Gamemasters. Nearly every World Saga will involve combat at some point, though not every thread will be a battle. World Saga threads may become deadly at any time. You may read more about World Sagas here:
World Sagas possess the same restrictions and potential rewards as Events with the following addendum;
Here is a list of benefits, ordered by their cost in Saga Tokens-
Spars
Spars are non-final battles between player characters. They require both stat battle and roleplaying battle to be counted as a spar, but have a difference between themselves and the other type of statistic battle. Spars have no death involved, when you lose you simply notate on your character sheet that you lost a spar. You may be in up to one (1) Spar at a time.
Spars gain 1 EP per 1 Word written and 2 PL per 10 words written, up to a maximum of 800 words rewarded per post.
The Winner(s) receives an additional 1,000 EP and 200 PL; the Loser(s) receive an additional 500 EP and 100 PL.
Life or Death Battles
Life or Death Battles are final battles between player characters. They require both stat battle and roleplaying battle to be counted as a LoD Battle, but have a difference between themselves and the other type of statistic battle. LoD Battles always end in death, incapacitation, or other result of characters. Unlike Spars, LoD Battles also require a Gamemaster agreeing to oversee and judge before it even begins. You may be in up to one (1) Life or Death Battle at a time.
Life and Death Battles gain 2 EP per 1 Word written and 3 PL per 10 words written, up to a maximum of 800 words rewarded per post.
The Winner(s) receives an additional 2,000 EP and 400 PL; the Loser(s) receive an additional 1,000 EP and 200 PL.
The Dragon’s Share
At the beginning of each month, the Broken Destiny staff will take a snapshot of the highest Natural Power Level on the site(possessed by a Player Character.) Afterward, we will post an updated table that will look like the example below; this table will provide bonus rewards to most players on the site and is intended to help soften the power curve just a bit. You may receive rewards based on where you land within the table, and your bonus reward will always use your Natural PL at the start of a thread. This rewards bonus is applied after other modifiers have been applied.
Example Table:
If Cayle Pota had the highest Power Level at 10,000, the table would look like this:
If your Natural Power Level is less than 20%(2000) of Cayle’s, you gain an additional 50% Power Level rewards.
If your Natural Power Level is between 20% and 40%(2000 and 4000) of Cayle’s, you gain an additional 30% Power Level rewards.
If your Natural Power Level is between 40% and 60%(4000 and 6000) of Cayle’s, you gain an additional 20% Power Level rewards.
If your Natural Power Level is between 60% and 80%(6000 and 8000) of Cayle’s, you gain an additional 10% Power Level rewards.
If your Natural Power Level is between 80% and 100%(8000 and 10,000) of Cayle’s, you gain no bonus rewards.

- Skill Enhancement- 1 Token: +2 MP
- Versatility- 1 Token: +1,000 EP
- Reserves of Power- 2 Tokens: As a Bonus Action, you dig deep and find hidden reserves of power and resilience; you may either regain 60 ki or heal for 30 HP. This does not count against any per-thread limit for other healing.
- Burst of Inspiration- 2 Tokens: You may decrease the learning time of a technique you are learning by 1 week. This may allow you to learn a technique mid-Saga.
- Close Call- 3 Tokens: As a reactive at-will action, when you would be dropped to 0 HP, or below you are instead dropped to 1 HP as you miraculously avoid being knocked out or slain by your foe’s vicious attacks.
- No Teacher Like Experience- 4 Tokens: When gaining rewards for a thread, you may increase your Dragon's Share bonus to the next tier. If you are receiving a 50% bonus already, you instead receive a 75% bonus for the rewards from that thread.

RPG WRITING BASICS
Dragon Ball: Broken Destiny is a story-based, literary role playing game where you gain experience, and strength the more you write. As such we have no minimum or maximum word length for threads, though we will investigate all claims of plagiarizing or otherwise attempting to game the system to gain more words. Remember that we read threads which are graded and as such will very easily catch some issues. IC posts should be PRIMARILY IC, and only IC writing (IE; not OOC notes, formatting, or the like) should be accounted for when it comes to word counts for gains.
We provide a standard ‘1 Effort Point per word’ and ‘1 Power Level Per 10 words’ reward for almost all thread types, but depending on the thread we modify this ratio in one way or another. Here are the RP thread types as we on DB:BD classify them, and their rewards.
You may be in up to a total of four (4) threads simultaneously.
Personal Sagas
First we have Personal Sagas. Personal Sagas are the most standard type of thread which will exist here on DB:BD. They could be anything from tomb raiding to having a sit-down discussion with another player character, but whatever they are Personal Sagas provide the same benefits. One Effort Point per word, and one Power Level per ten words, rewarded. Personal Sagas may be solo or group threads.
1 Effort Point per 1 Word. 1 Power Level per Ten words.
Missions
Missions are adventures which are driven by the players but guided by an initial prompt given by the staff. They can range in word requirements and always have a ‘minimum word requirement’ and a ‘maximum words rewarded’ requirement. Missions typically give items or Zenni in addition to their other rewards. You may be in up to one (1) Missions at a time.
1 Effort Point per 1 Word. 1 Power Level per Ten words. X1.05-1.2 Multiplier for rewards depending on mission rank.
Bounties
Where Missions are adventures which are player driven from an initial prompt given by staff, Bounties are adventures which BEGIN as player driven adventures guided by an initial prompt by staff, but are followed by a stat battle after the required words are completed. They can provide bonus zeni rewards for turning in the bounty, but they always require a staff member to game master a stat battle, after the required words for the target to be found have been written. You may be in up to one (1) Bounty at a time.
1 Effort Point per 1 Word. 1 Power Level per Ten words. 1.025-1.1 multiplier for rewards depending on bounty rank. BATTLE rewards.

2 Effort Point per 1 Word. 1 Power Level per Ten words. Up to 1.5X reward multiplier based on Gamemaster recommendation.
Spars
Spars are non-final battles between player characters. They require both stat battle and roleplaying battle to be counted as a spar, but have a difference between themselves and the other type of statistic battle. The Winner(s) receives an additional 1000 EP and 200 PL; the Loser(s) receive an additional 500 EP and 100 PL. These static bonuses are not adjusted by the multiplayer modifiers.
Multiplayer Modifiers!
We are here to collaboratively write as a community, and presumably so are you! The best parts of roleplaying (and of Dragon Ball itself) are when new and interesting characters come together on an adventure or for some nice slice-of-life story. Will Shell buy the loaves of bread in time before the baker clothes, or will the Namekian orphans starve? Find out next ti- back to topic!
To help promote the idea of multiplayer threads and to help curb out players simply grinding out solo threads 80% of the time, we the staff have put together some incentives. They are simple to explain and reference, and are as follows.
When two or more players are in a thread together, all gains are given a multiplier of 5% per player. This applies to all gains, including yes, treasure rolls if you ended up writing enough for the multiplier to kick in there. This is cumulative counting your own player character, so for instance a group of two characters, your own and one other, would get a +10% multiplier modifier to their gains.
There is a cap to this in general, however- and that is 25% or 5 player characters in a thread. This cap applies to all threads which are not event or story-arc threads (Game-Masters set those caps), and does not count the recruiting bonus, which is a separate multiplier.
