As the sun arose from its slumber, a wave of light shone across the city as it burst to life at the first sign of morning. Many people made their way around the city, walking briskly, walking slowly, walking across the road, or even taking three right turns in a row, walking in a full circle. Vehicles traversed the abrupt turns on the roads and streets of the wonderful, large, industrial central city, of the Southern Lands. One of the most populous territories in the known world.
Of course, while many things and many people are active in the city, another rather large portion of the citizens lay in their beds, whether fast asleep, using a mobile device, talking to their roommates, contemplating their lives, or simply regretting the very day they were born. Ahri was part of portion that was still fast asleep. In a lofty apartment somewhere in the middle of the city, a toned woman lay in bed with a leg dangling to the side, almost motionless.
Eventually, the bright, yellow rays of the sun shined its light through the window of the apartment. The light fell on Ahri's face, forcing Ahri to stir. She woke up, momentarily blinded by the brightness of the sun. Not having a clue as to how the day will play out, she uttered a small sound of protest before rising from the bed.
"Awwwww....."
Ahri lived a routine life. It was the almost the same thing everyday. She got up, got brushed her teeth, got dressed, ate a light breakfast and went out to train. Same thing every time. Same training, same routine, same tournaments, same everything. The only times things changed was when she travelled to another region. Always in search of a challenge. Once she donned her regular training outfit and grabbed her backpack, she headed out of her humble apartment, and walked towards the warehouse she frequented.
The warehouse had been discovered by the tall woman only a single day after she had arrived at the city, also a single day after her spar with that tiny, pink, childish 'majin'. Once discovered, the place seemed obviously abandoned, with rats, cockroaches and other rodents scurrying around the place. Stepping into the building was like stepping into a whole new dimension, quickly switching from the bright, bustling, city life to a dirty, dull abandoned building. Rusty factory equipment was strewn all about the place, fitting in with its setting. She had paid to get the placed cleared out and tidied, turning the building into a personal gym all for herself.
She had arrived at the warehouse in no more than ten minutes since she left her apartment, entering and placing her bag on the table placed near the center of the large room. Ahri took the contents out of the bag, beginning a small inventory. A towel, a reusable bottle filled with ice cold water, deodorant, sneakers and a radio. Turning on the radio and gravity machine, she would start her session by performing several stretches. Ahri listened to the radio intently, all while stretching. There was nothing interesting being talked about on the radio, nothing that garnered her full attention at least. She finished her stretching, then began shadowboxing. Suddenly, the radio began to transmit a story that finally piqued her interest.
"The Big Bad Bear strikes again, as he and a gang of henchmen have managed to rob an important train shipment blind. Police have partnered together with the Transporters Guild to bring the bear to justice. A bounty has been placed on the criminal, as the authorities fail to subdue the beast."
Bounty? Big Bad Bear? Train robbery? Interesting.........
Very interesting indeed. Ahri's financial position had dipped slightly, since she had neglected to shine in any recent fighting tournaments, not that there were any being held in the last couple of months. Plus, she had never taken up a bounty before. She was no bounty hunter after all. Still, this report transmitted on the radio was certainly something to consider. This 'Big Bad Bear' was most likely a warrior beastman, considering the fact that he and a group of other criminals were able to hijack a government shipping was a formidable feat in itself. Maybe this would even make for some good training.
She would most likely have to head over to the Transporters' Guild headquarters for a quick briefing. Although as it was now, it might've been a bit late to even go to the headquarters. She would ultimately decide on heading over to the place in question on the following day, slightly early in the morning. For now, she'd rather complete her training session, go take a nice, hot shower, go back to her apartment and watch some television until finally falling asleep. The large, industrial, sprawling city would resume its regular course the next morning, with the same half filled sidewalks, the same vehicles, the same people, the same- y'know what? You already get the point.
Ahri set an alarm on the clock she barely used which was placed on the nightstand next to the bed Ahri slept on. It was a rare sight in her apartment, as Ahri normally liked to sleep for up to ten hours at a time, sometimes even longer. Sure enough, the alarm set off. It worked like a charm, almost immediately waking Ahri up, causing her to jerk slightly. Ahri completed her daily chores, then left the apartment, this time dressed in a completely black hoodie with the hood laying behind her neck, revealing her whole head and matching black pants. While some people might've called her an emo, if they saw her, she wouldn't mind. Her chisled muscles weren't blantantly visible as they would've been if she was wearing her training gear. The long sleeves and pants hid her tough arms and legs. Enough was hidden for her to not stick out like a thumb. The only other feature that made her a bit different was her height.
Eventually, she encountered the building. It was rather tall, pale yellow in colour and covered with glass windows. There were large pillars outlining the entrance, with large letters at the top of the building created with brick letters saying,
TRANSPORTERS GUILD
After staring at the building for a while, she entered.

To think that Magnus would go as far as to accept a bounty, ultimately a concept of the system he desired to tear down, was unbelievable. And yet, once the news of the Big Bad Bear bandit broke out across the Southern Lands, the blonde haired demon ultimately decided to try his hand at the mission and accept.
Why? What for? He did not need Earthling money. In fact, money as a concept disgusted him. His father's fief in the Demon Realm had a similar concept, although not with paper bills, but rather with hard silver coins - and he grew to hate it back there as well. To reduce labor, blood, toil, sweat and tears to nothing more than an arbitrary number, and then construct a system around it which forces everyone to compete to obtain a greater and greater number, lest they die from hunger, thirst or disease... Such a system could only grow a cadre of sociopaths.
And Magnus's blackened soul hated it. But what he hated more was criminals and bandits, such as the Big Bad Bear he chose to sign up to go after. Selfish, brutal individuals, who persevere by hurting others - to Magnus, they were nothing but the lowest denomination of corruption and degradation which this society leads towards. To work for oneself and better one's conditions, while it may be considered selfish, is not a bad thing in of itself. However, to act with such selfishness that you are willing to make life worse for others in order to improve your own... only leaving the greater whole worse... completely lacking awareness of the needs of the collective, as opposed to the needs of the individual...
For once, he and the society around him agreed on something - that such a disgrace cannot continue. Well, agree in part. They wanted to bring this criminal to the authorities in order to bring him to 'justice'. For Magnus, the only justice was to witness this criminal drown in their own blood, make sure the entire region hears of the act, and it inspires fear within the hearts of anyone else seeking to tread the same path.
The Earthling woman sitting by the desk inside the Transporters Guild did not ask for documentation or much else besides a name, a signature, and a few other things - which was great, because Magnus did not have any. Even if his father's fief in the Demon Realm had anything resembling a passport, it wouldn't have been valid regardless. At the same time, however, the woman, and her collegue working the copy printer in the corner couldn't take their eyes away from the demon. One of them even let out a faint whistle. Magnus did not respond to either one of them, however, simply putting down his signature and pushing the paper to the other side of the table.
Her mother did say that he was the prettiest of her seventeen children, and the uniform of a Prince of the Clan of Atar which he snatched right before leaping through the portal to this plane of reality, as far as he had been made aware of, looked fashionably medieval and royal-like on Earth. Magnus had no interest in making use of it, however. There was only one thought which consumed his mind, after all.
Signing the bounty without muttering a single word, the demon received a picture of the animal human hybrid bandit he was going to go after, as well as notes on where he had been last seen in the recent months, and promptly turned around to depart. As he was about to step out of the Transporters Guild, however, he nearly butted heads with a woman an inch taller than him, who was entering the building at the exact same time. Magnus stopped in his tracks in time, but the woman's forehead hit the beak of his cap, knocking it off his head.
The demon reacted on instinct - a blade of ki fired up around his right hand and he slashed forward, stopping a millimeter away from the intruder's neck. And then stopped, turning the technique off as quickly as he had summoned it.
"You're not the bandit I'm looking for."

The door to the building had made a tiny creaking sound as she had entered. Although, unfortunately, the very moment she had even step foot into the building, she had nearly butted heads with another person who seemed to be just about to head out back towards the bustling city outside the building. The man somehow managed to stop himself in time to attempt to avoid a collision, however, Ahri failed to do so. She kept walking, abruptly surprised by the man, and collided with him, knocking into the beak of his cap, which responded by falling off the man's head, revealing a blonde mop of hair. The tall woman had wanted to apologize, as she was about to let the word 'sorry' leave her mouth. Unfortunately, however, the man certainly didn't waste any time. A rather long blade made entirely of the man's energy, seemingly erupted from his hand, as he swung the blade towards the woman taller than him, aiming for the neck. The man stopped himself from slicing Ahri's neck open at the last second. With the blade stopping a mere millimeter from her neck. Ahri didn't move a muscle as this transpired. In fact, terror was written all over her face at the time of the man's attack. Once the man got rid of his energy coated weapon, he stated the Ahri was not the one he was looking for. Needless to say, everybody in the immediate vicinity of the two who had witnessed the incident was utterly shocked as well. And nobody said a word for an excruciatingly long period of time. Which happened to be only ten seconds. Ahri's face slowly twisted from one of terror, into one of anger. What wrong with this guy? Someone knocks into you, knocking your hat off by accident, so you attempt to murder them? Who does that? Why would you do that? Why?Ahri stared daggers directly into the man's face for a little while, until walking past him, heading towards the receptionist's desk, not uttering a word. Ahri approached the receptionist, who seemed to have scrambled to get herself together. The taller woman started the conversation, "Good morning, I heard that you had placed a bounty on the 'Big Bad Bear Bandit'?""Oh, ah, yes! Good morning, we have, we have."The receptionist still seemed a bit surprised and shocked about that incident which hadn't taken place more than a minute ago. Ahri seemed to be able to control her emotions however, pushing the unwanted anger back down where it came from, where it belonged. "Is that so? Well, I was looking to accept that bounty.""O-oh! Uh, yeah, just sign these papers, and if you're able to turn him in, you will receive your reward."
The woman handed Ahri a couple of papers, consisting of a criminal database on the Bear, a picture of the target, some notes on where the criminal was last seen and where he would likely strike next. "Seems simple enough. What's the reward?""Check the papers, it's there. Also, you might want to consider working with that guy over there.""What!?""Yeah! He also accepted the bounty, and it would be favourable for you two to work together. Besides, I don't see what's wrong with him."
The woman spoke with a smile on her face while staring dreamily at the blonde haired man. Ahri only took the time now to look him up and down. The guy looked as if he came from royalty. As if he belonged in some sort of palace. Living out his days as the sole prince of some medieval kingdom, not out fighting some criminal mastermind and collecting bounties. However, the toned, female fighter didn't care as to how he looked. He was still a crazy person to her. How people look don't matter too much to her, as the majority of fights she's participated in, taught her that looks can be deceiving. Her mother had taught her the same thing as well. Perhaps the man was going through some sort of internal struggle, always fighting, alone and by himself. Still, he could've killed Ahri right there and then, since she hadn't been prepared in the slightest. Her power was suppressed, and she hadn't been expecting that sudden attack. She decided to flare her power slightly. A small gust of wind emitting from her frame, blowing one or two papers on the floor. The receptionist didn't even seem to notice. Whatever.... Maybe we got off on the wrong foot.
The tall fighter walked towards the man, not knowing that the man was in fact, a demon, with whom she didn't like associating with. She was already annoyed at working with the man; if she had known that the man was, in fact, a demon, her opinion of him would've lowered even more than before. Once she approached the man, she spoke without hesitation, "Well, seeing as how we've both taking the same bounty, we're temporary partners. I won't get in your way by any means, and I can take care of myself."
She talked as if this wasn't the man who had almost murdered her by accident. To her, she felt that since it didn't happen, it didn't happen. She didn't care if it almost happened. Maybe she was misjudging the man, who knows? She would then take out the notes she was given, and skim over them in about eight seconds. "There's gonna be a government shipment later today, and that's probably where this guy will strike next. He seems to have an affinity for robbing trains. We'll have to go board the train carrying the shipment, and hope he strikes it. We don't have any other lead..... I think....."
She tried not to rush the words, and tried to make sure that this guy understood everything she just explained. "You got all that? Well, just follow me, or you'll get left behind."
And just like that, she walked through the door, not caring if she was followed or not.

It should have been obvious that the woman before him wouldn't take a threat to her life well. At first, a look of terror contorted on her face, the same one which Magnus would get to witness upon many of his victims before their demise. That sort of look would always assure the demon that, no matter what, he's always continued to do the right thing. That face soon contorted to anger - a less welcome emotion than terror, but welcome nonetheless. Anger and hatred were the Molotov cocktail which would eventually burn this society down from its foundations.
Right now, however, Magnus really wasn't planning to bother with an Earthling girl when he just signed up for a mission. Every second he wastes talking to her or threatening her is a second which the Big Bad Bear bandit gets to use in order to threaten more people, or to escape and leave his trail cold. And, thankfully, the girl had no interest to challenge him, either, as, after her pout, she simply moved on towards the reception. Let this be the last time when the two of them meet again, it will be best for everyone involved.
Magnus knelt down and picked up his cap, shaking it a little and finally putting it back on. He was about to depart for good and start figuring out how to find this bandit, had his ears not suddenly picked up the most unpleasant possible thing which they might have heard - this woman... had signed up for the exact same bounty as him. In fact, the Transporters Guild advised the two of them to take on the mission together, presuming that they would be able to cooperate despite having witnessed one of them nearly cleave the other's head off. The demon stopped in his tracks, glaring at the woman while she finished signing up for the bounty and finally returned towards him with papers and a new attitude.
First of all... Magnus worked alone. Solely.
Second of all... who could have ever thought that this was possibly a good idea?
Well, apparently the woman did, because her voice did not seem to harbor resentment towards him. She dutifully accepted the fact that they were going to be partners from here on out and explained the situation to him - where they could search for this bandit and what their preliminary plan of operations might be. Oh, and she also explained that she wasn't going to get in his way and will take care of herself.
She better not get in his way, else he'll have to kill two people, not just one, during the mission. Thankfully, it didn't seem like the woman was bluffing - her well toned body and confidence both betrayed aptitude in martial arts, or, at least, enough care for her physical well-being that she wouldn't be a complete pushover in a battle.
"I heard all that, yes. You don't have to treat me as a subordinate." Magnus stated briefly, then walked after the woman, his bright red cape flowing in the wind. What did she mention, exactly? That this criminal has an affinity to rob trains, and they will have to board one in hopes that he will strike it. Must be some Earthling slang he hasn't gotten used to yet.
"I can take care of myself much like you - and I will. Just lead me to where these 'trains' are."

"Can do."
It seemed like everything was going to be alright. The man didn't seem to be completely against working together, and if he did, he hid it well. The very same can be said about Ahri. She absolutely felt like the job could've been done a lot better and quicker if she had worked without this man. Although, he stated that he could and would take care if himself, and judging by what happened as soon the woman walked into the Transporters Guild headquarters, it was most likely and decidedly true. The same thoughts kept running like a clock in her mind while they headed towards the train station on the edge of the city. Is this guy truly what he seems? He could've sliced my head off, had he desired. Why would we be able to work together? I'm just glad he didn't mention that little.... incident. It felt embarrassing for some reason. It was even awkward to even say a word to him. I should probably stop suppressing my power all the time.
She kept a straight face as she and the bizarre man made their way towards the job they would complete. She tried not to show any of the annoyance she was currently experiencing, especially since they were supposed to be partners for the time being. She did however think that the man would prove to be useful, should they actually find this criminal. The Saber Toothed Bear was said to be dangerous and had a good amount of combat experience. How the police hadn't found the bear yet was beyond her, since only a small chunk of the world's population were beastmen. Of course, there were those Tuffles and Saiyans running around, but overall, she didn't believe that there was much of a difference between them and humans. Ahri didn't utter a single word as they travelled towards the train station, as she didn't see it to be necessary. Why would she want to make small talk with a man who nearly decapitated her? She had already said enough to the man as is. Besides, if she were to say anything, she would probably rebuke him for acting to brashly back at the headquarters of the Transporter's Guild. Loudly. And she still didn't feel comfortable talking about that topic. It was still bright and early in the morning as they walked through the city, and it was buzzing with activity. Of course, there would probably be no citizens boarding the train they would be taking, since it was a government shipment. The contents of the train was probably worth more than one hundred thousand zeni, and Ahri's mind drifted to the thoughts of how much money the loose criminal bear had made by robbing all of these trains. Eventually, they arrived at the designated area for the train's boarding, and there were several workmen on the site lifting heavy boxes and placing them in the train's back storage cars. There were also several military personnel overseeing the loading of the wooden boxes. On sight, Ahri and her companion were told to leave the area by a police officer, although his attitude changed when Ahri presented the same papers that were given to her by the receptionist at the front desk of the headquarters they visited. At first, he seemed a bit surprised, and rightfully so, as the two temporary bounty hunters seemed like one of the weirdest possible pairs for the job. Ahri was a couple inches taller than him as well. Sure enough, they were let through, and Ahri immediately volunteered to aid the workmen with the large, heavy wooden boxes. She wished to get the train on it's course as quickly as possible. At first, her request was met with a bit of doubt. "Oh, I dunno miss. These boxes are pretty heavy y'know."
The workman grinned as he said this, despite fully knowing that she was one of the two persons who had accepted the bounty for the Big Bad Bear. Ahri paid the initial comment no attention. "Oh please, I can do more than lift a couple boxes.""Alrighty Lady. Just don't break your back, alright?""Yeah, yeah."
Ahri rolled her sleeves above her elbow, revealing a bit of the muscle that was hiding, garnering a bit of surprised from the workman. She then proceeded to place her hands on either side of the heavy load. Lifting the box extremely easily, she placed it in the same train car the other workers were placing them. Eventually, the train was fully loaded, and ready to go. The people authorized to board the train climbed into the passenger cars and storage cars, with Ahri climbing into the storage cars. As she did this, she shouted something to the blonde haired man. "Don't follow me! Get into the passenger car! It's just as likely to be infiltrated as the storage cars!"She indicated the passenger car with a point of her finger, then turned around, and climbed into the storage car.

The woman complied, and soon, Magnus got witness with his own eyes what trains are. Apparently, they are a some sort of massive carriage used to transport people and cargo - the catch was, however, that they ran on a some sort of rail, extending way past the city, and seeing how they were attached to it, it must be the only path which they are able to go. It doesn't take a mastermind to figure out why this makes trains a very appealing target for bandits, such as the Big Bad Bear they were going to hunt. If the vehicle in question is able to only travel on a very specific path, and presumably on very specific times as well, then you have far less planning to do for a robbing operation. Just gather your mates and anything you need in a specific location, blow up the rail so the train is forced to stop, and grab anything you can in the chaos.
The woman went towards one of the cars of the train, and, after a brief conversation with the workmen and then loading the train, she gave Magnus the order to enter one of the passenger cars - according to her, it was going to be just as likely to be hijacked as the storage. The cargo of the train may be useful and sell a lot in the black market, but getting valuables in everyone's pockets or, possibly, hostages is just as critical. Magnus did not need much convincing - not that he was trying to follow the woman anyway, having instead spent the time being immersed in thought about the nature of train robberies. The demon fixed his cap and made his way straight towards the entrance of the passenger car.
"Ticket." the oblivious, yawning ticketmaster in front of the door stated, barely glancing up from her fingernails. Right, he at least knew what a ticket was, the Demon Realm had a similar concept in the gladiatorial blood matches his father would host... Magnus had no ticket, so he instead did the same thing which he saw the woman do, and flashed his papers. The expression on the ticketmaster's face immediately changed, and she stepped to the side, speaking:
"Please, do step in. Mind the rules of no weapons in the passenger car, but as long as you look to the other side..."
"I have no weapon." the demon stated bluntly.
Or, rather, his body was his weapon. More lethal than any sword or spear. Without any further ado, Magnus stepped inside, faced with a half-full wagon before him. All the seats were placed around tables, two on each side, with a look through the window as well as option to pull up the curtains. Most of the seats were already filled, but a few were still open, and one of the tables only had one person sitting next to it. That's the one Magnus chose to pick - the less interaction with these frail Earthlings he was supposed to protect, the better.
As soon as he saw something bright red and yellow sit down on the other side of the table, the man in question raised his eyes from his cellphone and immediately tossed the question:
"Off to a theatre or an anime convention?"
Magnus's response was, again, rather blunt. "Neither."

The blonde haired man did not need much persuasion to obey her orders. He had already gotten into the passenger car, taken a seat and made himself comfortable. Ahri had climbed into one of the storage cars where all of the precious, valuable cargo was being kept. The room consisted of several wooden boxes gathered neatly against a single side of the train car, a locked, black safe with a combination lock, and another male, who looked as if he was a part of the secular authorities, wearing uniform, dignified look and all. He stood there, leaning against on of walls of the passenger car with his arms crossed. He had a serious look about him, and did not acknowledge the female fighter as she entered the room. Once she had settled herself, taking a seat on the floor, leaning against the wall opposite to the wall the man leaned against, she began to feel curious about the cargo. What was being delivered, anyway? Some sort of top secret government stuff?
It happened to be at that exact moment when she thought about it. She knew she wasn't authorized to open the crates or do anything with them, but she felt like she had an obligation to know. She was also making sure none of the items on the train were stolen by the dangerous bear, as well as attempting to subdue and capture him. It probably wouldn't be an easy task, but it wasn't anything that the woman couldn't handle; or so she thought. She had decided on making small talk with the man occupying the same car as her, in order to find out a little about this cargo. "Say, do you have any idea about what's inside these boxes?"
The man would cock his head towards Ahri, still leaning against the wall. "I myself am not completely sure, I honestly didn't care. But the most I can tell you is that this train is currently carrying some time fighting equipment invented recently, maybe a month or so ago."
"Ah, fair enough."
Ahri didn't bother to continue the conversation, since she had already figured out what she had wanted to figure out. Soon enough, the train was fully boarded, and the train conductor had announced that the train would be leaving tge train station. Eventually, the train had in fact left, rolling down the train tracks which lead to their destination. People chatted idly in the passenger car, talking about various topics. This was Ahri's first ever train ride, and she couldn't get to experience it in the passenger car. Not that she actually cared. As of now, the only thing that mattered was bringing the bear to justice, perhaps they would even kill him. Ahri had never taken a life before, and didn't plan to, however, if it came down to it, and she was forced to take another sentient creature's life, she would not fail to act quickly. Hell, she might not even hestitate to do so.

With a loud whistle and a weak budge, the train finally budged itself forward, leaving the station and beginning its trip towards the next. It's just like a really, really big carriage, which could only travel on one specific path, had no demonic beasts to tow it and instead operated with steam, and, finally, could house a small village worth of people on the trip. Carriage trips were a common way for his father, the Lord of House Atar and their entire realm, to travel across the countryside and meet with the citizens under his absolute command. Of course, what the carriage lacked in size, it made up for with a hellish, brimstone aesthetic. They say that the carriage was inherited from hundreds of years past and saw even the reign of Lord Lucifer, the founder of the Clan, who arrived to Earth hundreds of years ago and sought to destroy the Sun with the power of a virgin girl, before being stopped and killed by a boy with a monkey tail. It was a rather crazy time back then.
Back then, the young Magnus could watch from above as his father would beat dissenting peasants, order executions in any new village he arrives, and overall acted like the ruthless tyrant that he was, and his father, and his father, and his father, and... Perhaps, looking at it that way, it makes sense why his father chose to dump his heir apparent in a bottomless pit and bury the teenager alive. It's not that he just had passion for others and a desire to see the world change for the better, it's that compassion was a completely foreign concept in his family. They were all psychopaths, murderers, tyrants, they could never understand his point and would thus much rather leave him dead. But no matter. Because, after realizing his mistake, after spending years in solitude, Magnus finally realized where his mistake lied. If he wants to make change, he has to become even worse. To become not the person which a brutal, soul crushing society ignores, but the person which it fears. Fear, and then hatred, turned him to what he is, and it is going to turn this society into what he wants it to be as well.
"Hey, uh..."
The other man speaking up broke Magnus from his deep, thoughtful trance. The demon opened his eyes, offering a glare to the Earthling on the other side of the table - he was holding up his smartphone and then placed it down, speaking:
"Want to go for a round of chess?"
Chess... That game... It's popular on Earth as well? Magnus looked down at the screen of the phone. It displayed a sight familiar to him from his childhood - a board of sixty four squares, with two lines of piece symbols lined up at both ends, ready to march forth and claim victory, or a shameful defeat. Then, he looked through the window. The train was only beginning to exit the city. No doubt, it will take a long time before the Big Bad Bear bandit ambushes this train, if he even does. He would not risk to attack a train so close to inhabited areas.
"Fine." the demon responded, shifting his body in his seat a little to sit down face to face with the Earthling. The match began.
"Do you play chess often?" the first question got thrown Magnus's way, and the demon offered a simple answer:
"My mother taught me how to play it."
They said that chess helps groom good army leadership skills. At first, the young Magnus did not believe it. How could he possibly compare a game, where pieces move in strict turns one after the other, to real life, where all soldiers on the battlefield have their own personalities and thoughts, move on their own accord, and do not necessarily obey others? Only later would he learn what his mother truly meant by that piece of advice. It was not a tool for teaching battle tactics, or any specific maneuvers, or modern warfare in general, but rather a way to develop a sharp and astute mind, one which is able to react to unexpected moves and craft new innovative strategies on the fly. A mind which is not limited to the empirical knowledge it has, but is able to adapt to what is happening on the board.
And as the chess match began, the Earthling soon realized that he was facing off against an opponent stronger than he initially imagined. The opening phase of the match went decidedly to Magnus's favor - he mobilized his pieces and placed them in strategic positions much faster than his opponent could, and successfully took control of the centre by attacking it while his enemy had not yet moved all of his pieces past the pawns. Once the mittelspiel phase began, the demon's position was undeniably favorable - he had superior maneuverability, his two bishops covered large portions of the board and blocked his opponent from advancing, and the towers were entering play when his opponent had only now finished castling.
"Sheesh, talk about a difficult situation..." the Earthling commented under his breath. With each and every turn, he took more and more time to complete his actions, struggling to come up with a concise answer to his opponent's strategy. "Hey, you forgot to castle."
"I have moved my tower out of position, I cannot castle anymore."
"Wait... why would you do that? Why didn't you castle?"
"Do I have to?"
The Earthling scratched his head at Magnus's answer. Every single game of chess he has ever played, he would always see both sides castle and thus move their tower to the center of the play. This mysterious blond noble, on the other hand, went for an option which went against all of the chess manuals he read - he broke apart the formation of pawns in front of the King in order to make a gap for his tower to advance forward. Which it did, threatening the centre and not allowing his pieces to advance.
"God damn it..."
"God is not going to save you anymore." Magnus replied bluntly and calmly, even though his words were almost a veiled threat. Not that he was actually planning to put an end to this man's life. Not for now, at least.
The mittelspiel phase continued - and while Magnus assumed he was going to put an end to the match in this phase, the Earthling he was playing against managed to push the match into the endspiel. Part of the blame comes onto him and him making a few novice mistakes, such as getting too engaged in a specific opening on the opposing King and sacrificing one too many pieces in an attempt to force a checkmate, only to realize that his opponent managed to move up the Queen in the most troubling time and thus stave off the assault. That's not to say that his opponent did not suffer severe losses in pieces during the mittelspiel - it would not be an endspiel otherwise. As the dust settled and the final part of the match finally begun, only the Kings on each side remained, alongside several pawns.
Not Magnus's favorite part of a chess match by any means, but he was going to push through with it regardless. Here, a change of strategy is needed. Since the game becomes so slow paced, the Kings become far more important, changing from a liability to the primary method how the players advance the game. For the goal now is for one of them to reach the other side of the board, acquire a Queen, and effectively win the match. His opponent clearly recognized this change in status quo, and so did Magnus.
And neither of them had noticed just how much time had passed since the start of the trip...

It was time. All the pieces were in their place, and this would be their biggest job yet. They fell upon the train without warning, their finely tuned vehicles easily keeping pace with the larger transport. As they completed their approach, men began jumping from their vehicles onto the train, pulling open doors. They all were dressed in dark colors, wearing a white armband bearing images of a great bear. The men began opening doors, brandishing weapons and demanding valuables. As they did so, their leader made his way onto the train. He did so with an audible thunk; he was large, after all, standing over seven feet tall and towering over most others. He snarled as the opened the door. Those standing in the car that he chose, including Magnus and A.I., could see a hulking, fur covered frame filling the doorway. Large teeth curved over the beastman's lips and he let out a low growl as his hands flexed, revealing incredibly sharp claws. "Your money or your lives!"

The man Ahri had spoken to seemed to be lost in his own thoughts, barely aware of his own surroundings. The female fighter stared at the man for a while, until the man took a seat on the floor, and promptly fell asleep. "Of course..."
Now that she thought about it, it has been a while since the train left the station, maybe around two hours. They were already halfway to their destination, perhaps the bandit wouldn't strike this train. She was wrong. Suddenly, several power levels began to approach the train on either side. They were surrounded. Immediately, Ahri made her way towards the dozing man, vigourously shaking him. He woke up almost immediately, surprised at the girl. "H-Hey! What are you-"
Without paying any attention to the man's question, Ahri ran towards the passenger car. The very same car in which her temporary partner was seated. Bursting into the train car, she bore a single message, "He's here!"
As if on cue, the criminals broke into the train, drawing weapons as they forcefully boarded the train. A certain figure stood out from amongst them. It was a seven foot tall figure, covered from head to toe in fur and clothing. He possessed long, lethal claws, perfect for causing mayhem and carving a man's face in. His sharp teeth were bared, large and long, letting a low, terrible growl escape from the miniscule gaps between them. His voice was loud and booming, as he provided every single passenger on the train with an ultimatum, "Your money or your lives!"Ahri's clear, white aura burst to life almost immediately, knocking back all those who didn't brace themselves with a gust of wind. She rushed towards the nearest henchmen, sending two quick jabs his way. The man wasn't prepared, and fell victim to Ahri's attack, seemingly crumbling over the impact. People were screaming, attempting to leave the train by running out through the doors. A couple of people tried to hide, a couple of people were being robbed, and a couple of the criminals made out with some of the civilians' valuables. It was clear that they wouldn't be able to save everyone's items, maybe not even the cargo, however, even if the odds were stacked against her, Ahri had to try. A couple more of the henchmen engaged Ahri, attempting to subdue her as quickly as possible. Her right fist eerily glowed, then flew towards the group of criminals. One punch was all it took to knock them all down, and Ahri was frantically racing through her head, trying to decide if she should rely on brute force, or attempt to save the civilians first. She decided that she should attempt to take the fight outside of the train, to avoid damaging it. Things were going to get crazy....

The chess match continued, and the endspiel phase was taking longer than Magnus might have wanted it to last. His mind could already feel the flicker of several ki signatures approaching the train, and he had to be prepared to engage those attackers on a moment's notice. However, the Earthling against whom he was playing was learning as they fought, and managed to seriously stall Magnus. The two of their kings were locked in a stalemate over two pawns butting heads against one another - neither one of them was able to budge, nor could they push their opponent out of the stalemate. Normally, this sort of situation would constitute a draw, but it seems that this phone did not have a stalled draw system programmed? Before Magnus could finish the match off, the lights dimmed, the people began to scream, several windows broke and the bandits they had been searching for showed up oblivious to what they were about to face. Genius, woman, simply genius. Now all we have to do is return with his scalp..."I forfeit." Magnus calmly stated and rose up from his seat - thankfully, good sportsmanship and caring over the fate of the match was the last thing on the Earthling's mind at this point. The blonde six foot tall demon slowly made his way through the passenger car, just as the Big Bad Bear bandit ripped through one of the doors and stepped inside, demanding either their money or their lives. "May I pay you with your life?" he replied to the demand, staring straight at the Bear and fixing his cap. [Words: 268 / 3411] Turn order roll - rF6bq3AI1d100Kiryu A.I. Ahri mentally and physically attempted to ready herself for battle. Her aura had suddenly and abruptly appeared, white, glowing energy dancing around her body, coating her whole figure in an eerie glow of holy light. Her burst of power was enough to knock two people back a couple steps, wind blowing wildly around the train and inside of the train. She stared defiantly at the walking and talking bear, hazel eyes wide and flashing with courage. She rolled back her sleeves as she did so, not even looking down to see what she was doing. Her muscles, as tough as iron, were revealed, glowing much like the rest of her body. Finally, she allowed her blinding aura to drop, causing the fierce, wavy air to cease it's dancing inside of the passenger car of the train. Magnus had slowly and casually been making his way towards the bear bandit, as if he didn't care about the seriousness of the situation. Ahri barely noticed him, however, as if he was a mere fly that had alighted on an inanimate object outside of the tall woman's field of vision. The mere idea of the two of them working flawlessly as a team was impossible, and the idea of them finishing the job without killing anybody was also questionable. Both wouldn't hesitate to end a criminal's life at a moment's notice. Ahri, completely fixating her gaze on the bear, had several thoughts rush into her mind. Specifically about the beast in front of her. How powerful is this guy? Can he use ki well? Can he use it at all? Maybe he's suppressing his power level.... I can't tell..... Either way, I'll have to be careful with how well I approach this. The last thing I would want is to become a burden for Blondie....
She had made that promise to herself. She was going to be taken seriously in this fight, or she was going to break some bones....

With the corner of his vision, Magnus caught the sight of his teammate, "teammate", in the train. The woman had not bailed from the fight and was instead taking out the bandit's subordinates, her vast physical strength and speed easily overpowering each and every one of them. If the demon had reservations about whether she would be able to take care of herself, he certainly did not have any now. Should the bandit prove to be a greater threat than he can handle by himself, then he could at least rely on her to provide support. Magnus offered a smirking glance to the Bear Bandit from underneath his cap. Sparks of pure ki energy began popping in and out of existence around his body - the demon was tapping into all of the reserves of power within his body, in anticipation for the fight. "Come on, introduce yourself, bandit. Begin boasting about just how powerful you truly are." he spoke, aiming to keep the bandit's attention on him no matter what. "Make your last words on this plane of existence worth it." [Words: 181 / 3592] Kiryu A.I. Defensive Phase

At Magnus's words, the Bandit's face contorted in confusion. "Pay me with my life? I already have my life! What a strange creature you are."The Bandit reached behind his back, unsheathing a large saber. He brandished it at Ahri and Magnus, grinning cruelly. "It seems you two have elected to do the foolish thing! It's been a while since anyone dared to oppose me. That's just fine with me! I enjoy carving up idiots just as much as the next devastatingly handsome bandit does! And if you want a name, well, they're calling me the Big Bad Bear Bandit, and I think that's pretty darn catchy! So call me that."Magnus started pulling on his power, forcing ki to appear and the Bandit cocked his head. "That's a pretty light show, but don't think it will help you! Soon the two of you will be mincemeat. Unless, now that you know who I am, you have the sense to be properly afraid! Ask nicely and I might let you get by just with giving me your valuables."The Big Bad Bear Bandit began to pace a bit. In the small confines of the train car, he could not go too far in any direction, but he crouched, holding his sword in a defensive posture, waiting to see what these two that dared oppose him would do.

As expected from a dangerous, saber toothed, seven foot tall, confident criminal, the Big Bad Saber Tooth Bear Bandit did not back down, not hesitating to toss a number of threats towards the pair of warriors he was about to face, Magnus and Ahri. His words portrayed confidence, superiority and arrogance, as they were picked up by the ears of anyone within range who bothered to listen. Most of the train's passengers had done their best to avoid the saber tooth, and Ahri did not blame them. As he spoke, the bear unsheathed a large, long saber, sharper than his own teeth and claws. He seemed ready for battle, crouching slightly, holding his long, curved weapon defensively. He must've expected Ahri and Magnus to attack him first. Ahri thought that this bandit obviously didn't know who he was dealing with. Of course, people had most likely fought him before, judging by his loud, booming words. However, Ahri was most likely more powerful than those who had opposed the bear before, and it was exactly why she was going to mop the floor with the criminal, with a small amount of assistance from Magnus. Ahri was completely sure that she could take care of the hulking bear herself, judging by the bear's power level. That saber had an effect on her, however, she had always been apprehensive about facing against someone with a weapon, whether it be a club, a gun, a sword, or anything. Despite how confident she felt, she definitely had to go about this carefully, if she wished to defeat her foe. The notorious criminal had offered to spare the two defiant fighters their lives, if they had given up any and all valuables they possessed. Well, joke's on him, Ahri didn't bother to bring any valuables. She had come on this train for only one main reason, get rid of the Big Bad Saber Tooth Bear Bandit. There was a bounty on his head for a reason, anyways. The fight would also provide a great training match, although she doubted that the bear would spare their lives if she had somehow managed to incur a loss. Well, what sense did it make standing around waiting? It's time to defeat the criminal. "As tempting as your generous offer sounds, 'fraid that we're going to decline. Get ready, scum. We're about to mop the floor with you."
As she emphasized her first sentence with sarcasm, her second sentence sounded dead serious. To begin the fight, she immediately poured her ki into both of her palms while balling them up into fists. Her fists began to glow softly, as if it was a flashlight, as she slowly charged them both up. After around three seconds, the toned woman had determined that the attack was ready to be launched. She took one step towards the bear, immediately firing off her ki like an afterburner, charging towards the bear while enveloped in a light that had nothing soft about it. She delivered the first blow to the criminal's jaw, her left fist flying upwards as she performed the uppercut. The next fists attempted to lodge itself into the gut of the bear immediately after the uppercut. Her aura would drop, once the onslaught was over, as she poured a good amount of ki into the first two blows.
