1 step from the Southern Islands to Southlands
750 words Req due to flight.
Atalan stood by the edge of the beach, pack already strapped to his back as he stood in the afternoon light. The water lapped across his feet before retreating from the sand and returning to the sea, leaving his feet feeling cool as the wind brushed against them. He peered across the open sea, past where the few fishing boats trolled across the water. That way lay his home... he just had to fly there. He had recently acquired the ability to fly, but was still ironing out the kinks. He could land without crashing most of the time now. He felt his ability was enough to do this... but still he had never flown such a distance. I suppose the only way to really see if I can do it or not... is to try.
Closing his eyes, Atalan gathered his ki together and prepared to push off. He squatted down and leaped into the air as he pushed with his ki at the same time; he blasted into the air with a streak of dark crimson that sent sand and water flying wildly around as he launched into the air and rocketed into the sky. He leveled off a couple of hundred feet into the air and mentally adjusted his ki flows to push him out over the water, towards home. His hair was whipping about wildly as he started picking up momentum, the water seemed to blur as he reached his top speed, the waves looked like they were standing still as he flew over them.
Nothing much to do now but to maintain his course and ki flow... his mind started to wander as he zipped along. His servants would probably have trouble recognizing him; he had changed much of the last months. His face and eyes were still the same, however, despite his significant increase in bulk and physical strength. He supposed he would have to put down rebellions with his muscle and physical power now instead of magic; but other than that he didn't expect his ruling style to change overly much. He was still the same demon who had left home, he just fought differently now. He was eager to get back to check into his holdings, if only for a moment. A demon lord who didn't come home to show the flag, as it were, every once in a while was bound to come back and find he had no home to come back to.
Atalan saw some dark clouds ahead that heralded a storm of some sort... he flew higher and higher until he was above the clouds... and quite cold. He pushed himself to stay above the clouds in the frigid winds until he was past the roiling darkness that flashed with fury and roared with lightning. He dipped back down to his former altitude and noticed something that brought a smile to his face; the coastline of the south lands. This had been much faster than catching a ride on that fishing trawler, and less smelly as well. He took his bearings and made a slight adjustment to his course; he should be headed more or less towards his lands now.
The scenery was much more diverse now that he was over land; first the rocky beaches of the mainland, followed by a progression into some lush greenery and some trees. About 15 minutes later, the vegetation became more sparse and the lands more craggy; He had reached the edge of the demon lands, home sweet home was drawing near. He dipped down into a canyon and zipped through it, leaving an echoing whoosh as he enjoyed the thrill of twisting and turning his flight path to make it through the canyon without smashing into the sides. The adrenaline had his blood pounding in his ears and a slight smile on his face as he pushed himself faster.. faster... as fast as he could go. He shot out of the end of the canyon and had to shoot upwards to avoid a plateau and avoid becoming a pancake.
Fun over, he reoriented himself and shot towards his manor. About 10 minutes later it came into sight, still in one piece. He came down for a landing in a nearby field and managed to only land heavily enough to take a few steps before catching his balance... last time he had left a crater as deep as he was tall. He strode towards the door to summon Grazzel; he had an obligation to fulfill and potential allies to recruit... after a short rest it would be time for him to head to Satan City.
