It was a beautiful day, though an empty one indeed. Bryce was bored more than other days, and he did not know why, not even sitting at his 'home' could get him to relax on this odd day. There was nothing big going on either, nothing that the mandroid had to do or remember. A whole lot of nothing. Sometimes it sucked that he didn't need sleep because it could very well get him days like these. And what more was since he didn't need sleep he wasn't tempted to try it either. So most people who had met him in the past had met with an extremely tired version of the android. Maybe.. he needed to try and sleep for once, if he even could still, seeing as he assumed the processes in his head would keep him awake.
And so he found himself on the proverbial fence still, and as he wondered what to do he absentmindedly found himself walking over to his farms where he suddenly did remember something, something he didn't think he had; the plots he had reserved for more produce. They were still there and both were without seed, something Bryce felt was a good thing to rectify right now. He ordered the seed because, since he had built new parts for his 'home', consisting of mainly just new decorations, expansions of certain rooms by moving the wall a few feet (which also took a full night to break everything down and build back up again), he felt it was time for everything else to follow suit as well. He had already been making plans for everything and this new expansion would mark the last for his farm. But at the same time also his biggest.
The seeds were ordered and as Bryce began to spread them over the kind of large patch of ground he kept himself busy by absentmindedly munching on a few stray carrots from the parts of his farm that grew them. But there weren't just carrots now; the excess ones he had traded for things like apples, melons and other things to eat. Luckily carrots were always in demand so it was easy to make beneficial deals involving them, which was part of the reason Bryce had begun to farm them.
But this new batch would effectively double his farm in size and make it that much harder to keep track of.
Once it was done though, there were more pressing matters to attend to as his crops were left to their devices the moment Bryce remembered something. Remember that time he went to the red ribbon base? He wasn't able to save any of the schematics he had found there, but what he was able to find was an object of interest for him. This object was almost like a shard of glass, and emitted some semblance of energy that could be felt, but the mandroid had it stored in his pocket so over the course of a few dqays he had gotten used to feeling it, to the point of actually forgetting about it.
Taking it out of his pocket there was an instant prismatic shine coming off of it, as if the sun was beaming through it, but the sun was nowhere to be found! The power that could be sensed within it was also higher, as well as different, than everything he had sensed before. The thing barely bigger than the palm of his hand was giving of an energy that actually made Bryce jealous, almost like he wanted to jab it into himself to see what his system would do with it, seeing as the thing had a clear reaction to being touched by the android.
He had seen people hold it in their hands and it doing nothing, but as soon as it came close to something mechanical the shard began to beam up and 'shiver' in something Bryce could only descrribe as anticipation.
As the thing was brought into the stone house Bryce had made and was put down on the stone 'table' in the middle of the first room there was something akin to a surge of energy rushing through the stone, almost like a pebble touching down on water but not actually falling through. He pulled closer himself and took some time bent over the table, his arms stretched out wide and holding on to the edges of the thing as he watched as if he was waiting for it to do a trick. But he knew it wasn't going to, he just wondered what exactly it was since normal glass didn't put out any kind of energy. And just the same, normal glass wouldn't light up without a source of light present.
He figured he'd go around Oolong city to ask around, see if the people there knew of any glass around that would do that kind of thing. But instead of actual answers he got a lot of rumors thrown his way, about there being items of some kind of ancient energy that were scattered around the world, and then old names of old people were thrown around. Roshi, Goku, Krillin. Even some names he didn't know like Vegeta or The great saiyaman. That really wasn't useful information, and it irked Bryce more than he let on even as he went around to see more people and ask them if they knew of any kind of object that reacted in the same way as that shard back home did. But as far as the serious answers went, nothing came up as everyone said they had never heard of anything reacting like it.
Being slightly upset at the fact that he didn't got too much in the form of an actual answer he eventually went back home, to focus on the shard some more and think about it all under the enjoyment of something to munch, seeing as he had gotten something local farmers were used to calling ''ExSeed.'', a brand of seed that grew several if not tens of times faster than the normal types of seeds, which would mean that in the short period he had been away from home there should at the very least be visible progress with some. The problem with ExSeed was that the rate at which seeds 'were accepted' by the soil was lower than the normal types of seed. Small price to pay for faster growing crops though. And actually, as he thought about it maybe he should use those seeds on his other patches of land too, stimulate the growth of those too.
So with some simple tools he would plow his entire field again, removing the grown carrots first to maximize his haul, and then followed by meticulously replanting all the empty soil with ExSeed. And the minute they all hit the ground they disappeared, meaning that the growing process was already taking place. Bryce remembered people telling him it was fast, but this fast? He could harvest some monster carrots this way. And maybe eventually, he would try out new things.
But as he went back to the table with the shard on it, he quickly realized he had no more ideas on that aside from doing what he had been musing about earlier; jamming it inside of himself and seeing how it was going to react to his internal systems. But doing something like that wasn't too high on his list of ways he wanted to die, if such a thing was even possible for him anymore. What he did have to say though was that there were only one or two systems he hadn't really mastered yet. Big improvement from back when he first woke up.
But that brought him back to the begin of the current day, and also the promise of thoose other ten androids coming for him. The schematics for all of them were nowhere to be found anymore and there had been no more contact from any of them either, almost like they dropped off of the face of the earth. Not that he minded, it was like there was a peace within him that made everything.. better. As if him embracing the side of him that pained him for so long made it all fade like snow in front of the sun. Whic made him wonder, was it all just a figment of his imagination? No, it couldn't be right? The others all knew of the existence of each other, and the others, Nal, Cade and even Zam had seen him walk into a red ribbon base and get the schematics for the rest of them.
Except.. they never had. He had gone into a room and found as scientist working on something which just so happened to need papers that were numbered. And when Bryce then tried to take those with him they had gotten fried before he was ever able to show anyone else. So.. maybe those other androids were really just him imagining things, a sort of coping mechanism to get used to his new life.
He stepped closer to his patch of farms and sat down with his legs crossed over one another to really think about it all. But deep down he already knew this was the case, however, the question remained then. What was real and what was not real? Were these crops in front of him real? Was this house real? And what if this entire plot of land was fake and he really just lived inside a bubble of his own making? Well, that was potentially the same as what he was trying to achieve here with all of his building, to have a place to call his own.
But those hours of work, they were surely real? And if not, who in their right mind would think up a scenario in which you made work for yourself? The argument could be made that Bryce was not in his right mind at all, but that still didn't explain why he would even be able to fabricate those things in his mind, the way how other people reacted to him and how they perceived him. And while he was a total jerk to be around- he knew that- he still knew that people saw him.
His mind raced as he munched on some carrots once more, this time from the patch he had sowed last. And they tasted good too! It was wondrous how something so good could grow so fast, those seeds took effect in what seemed to be several hours. It was in fact a week or so, but time was lost when staring at an object that shone like it was day the entire night long. Still, it was ffast enough to create a serious offer that far exceeded the demand, he figured that was why it was called ExSeed. But with more and more people using that type of seed there was more and more demand to go with the amount of offered goods.
Bryce finally got up from his spot and decided to stretch his synthetic legs a bit, not so much because he needed to but because all these thoughts had him feeling all locked up inside of his own mind, something not even meditation could help seeing as that involved him being alone with his own mind for prolonged periods at a time.
But when he suddenly got up the shard before him inside of his house suddenly began glowing harder and brighter, almost as if it was reacting to something. Bryce looked around him but could not find anything or anyone else of note, and the only activity here was.. an android standing up.. was the thing responding to him standing up? Could it.. sense him? Maybe it sensed electrical things like Bryce was able to sense people, and maybe that was why it reacted so around Bryce, with that glow and that constant rippling effect..
And so he sat down again, and instantly the glowing stopped as Bryce started to think about what it was exactly.
