Having embraced what people would describe as his anger issues did wonders for the quality of life of the mandroid, or quality of dream at this point. But whatever it was, it seemed to come to a halt when he was at the minimalistic spot he called home, with the stone slabs just piled up surrounded by nothing but crops and a whole lot of ground that had yet to be impregnated. It seemed that the time had come for Bryce to get started on expanding the place, wanting to make the most out of it. His own safe spot, the place no one could touch him. And who knew, maybe it would be some sort of big city in the future, something along the lines of what Melody had. But then again, Bryce wasn't the type to protect others if he didn't get something out of it himself. Maybe he should be a dictator..
Be what may, he went back to the same person that provided him with the stones from before, this time getting some larger slabs of stone and some mortar. The slabs he could break and build up however he wented, and the mortar was to make sure it stayed in place. And beyond that he went to the same person as before and got the same amount of seeds as before to use on the plot of ground right next to the patch of carrots. Stuff like that was hard to grow, but it paid off as it was very easy to trade against something more valuable.
He started by breaking down the 'walls' around his home spot that he put together by just slapping down rocks. So by carrying them he was able to remove them, no mortar, no hassle. But the next step would involve mortar, so there would be hassle. But before he could do that he would have to be able to visualize what exactly he would need in terms of living space, and so he began to rudimentally lay down the carefully cut slabs of stone in a straight line to form a line long enough to form a wall covering three rooms, while still leaving room for a fourth. The line went all the way up to the arch he had made, and instead of breaking that one down he decided to turn it into a kind of a door.
Slowly he then began to layer on more stones, carefully fitting them together with the delivered mortar to keep them all together. Now this process did take a bit longer than what he had done before, but this way the walls he put down would actually stay up if put to the test, unlike those first one he could basically sigh down. But a major drawback here was the wait for the mortar to harden, and while it was a special type that hardened faster than other kinds while still keeping the same strength, it still took a good night of waiting for Bryce to then be able to view his progress. And in that way his first wall slowly but surely took form.
Next issue was how tall he was going to build it though. He could easily jump as high as he needed to in order to build a tall wall, but eventually he decided to make it 'three' floors high just to start off with. Still, he was going to make each story quite tall with ten meters per floor, meaning that a single wall was going to be 20 meters high. Now that also meant he would have to widen the walls quite a bit, so that took him another few nights which he wasn't too fond of. But seeing his own progress with every passing night made it worth it.
This also meant he needed more stone though, and while the thought of getting it cut in advance did cross his mind he figured that it was still better to continue to do that himself, to keep the same authentic feel, that human touch in every wall. Not to mention it would just look awful with one wall being different than all the others. He also ordered only enough for one wall at a time in order to save space a bit. Also to give him the room he would need to easily cut the slabs into usable bricks, and this would also help him to make the windows as large or small as he wanted.
Now, the stone was all natural, so it was all quite heavy. But once they lay in place it was all worth it, the outside of the wall shone and Bryce was considering to fix the insides with wooden plating, also putting in a wooden floor to keep his feet from hurting too much as he walked over the stone.
But first the walls. Again he spent several nights erecting a wall that basically created the first corner of his house, and when it was done and the mortar had set he took a few steps back to admire his work. It actually looked like something, like all the measurements were correct even if the walls looked a bit.. empty right now. To be expected, since he had to put up the next 50% of the walls now. The mandroid ordered the slabs needed for it and began work, cutting them all in tinier pieces of stone he was able to use. Tiny conserved punched broke off the slabs, maintaining that natural look and showed nothing of industrial traces, which was something Bryce was aiming for here. He was supposed to feel calm when it was done, not locked in some kind of luxury prison.
The stones were laid in place, mortar applied and slowly the wall was being built, the third one to mark the end of the build. The build of the walls, at least. As the mortar was setting he was glad to be able to say he had done over half of the walls, and only one remained. He didn't yet build that one though and instead just ordered the giant slabs to be delivered. Bryce decided to take a bit of a break, sitting down on the grass right next to what was going to be his house after having picked the first few carrots from the first batch that was done. Now, he didn't need to eat anymore but there was a certain.. calm to be found when eating something you grew yourself.
Nibbling on the ends of the orange things, Bryce admired what he had built so far. Though open, it was shaping up to be something worthwhile. Now, there was lots he still had to do, like putting in stairs, floors for the stories he was pplanning on making.. he needed to figure out how he was going to do that. Maybe have some scaffolding and pillars in place to keep it all up.. in either case, he was not there yet and had to still put up the last wall.
Using his fists to prepare the bricks was the easy part, but that was only the first step, the next ones would be very tedious. Not that he had a choice on any of it, or well, didn't want to think he had a choice on it since that would mean having something people would call a ruin in the middle of a seedy patch, and that wasn't what Bryce was going for in the slightest. But at least he had time enough to figure it all out as he put up the last wall, it shaping up to be a tall square box now, with a wooden interior and floors that had yet to be installed. Oh, and a door, doors would come in handy! The mandroid therefore discarded some stones he would then be able to use for the pillars.
As the mortar in the last wall was setting he took a long look inside of the start of his home, while also trying to measure out how much wood he would need to isolate it all. After those calculations were done he ordered the amount of wood he needed plus the stones he would need for four pillars that he would use to build his floor on, trying to keep the need for scaffolding to a minimum. Once that was all delivered he put the wood in while still allowing light to come through, finishing it up with a kind of natural stone that would reflect the light a bit like a prism. And when he had placed that it began to look like a magnificent window worthy of a king, except Bryce was no king and just an android trying to make things work. And so he worked throughout, placing wood and finishing up the panels around his windows. When that was done, after a night of hard work, he had to get started on some form of stairs.
He ordered about the same amount of stones as went into a wall and slowly but surely constructed stone stairs. Bryce wasn't sure yet if he was going to touch those up with wooden rims or not, but the signs all pointed to him not doing so. Still, the work going into simply making a wooden set of stairs was more difficult than imagined, especially for someone with no experience building anything. So it took him the better half of a day to get it finished, but when it was it was more than enough to carry any kind of weight on it. The sad part was that it was built on a wooden floor and that maybe you could see the marks it would leave after a year or so.
Still, it was now time to start on the second floor, and even though the pillars were in place they wouldn't be enough, Bryce figured so he got some scaffolding in there, laying down slightly larger slabs to help distribute the weight of them a bit, which helped more than he was expecting. He needed only eight slabs to finish the second floor and let it set properly. And after a night he was able to remove the scaffolding and allow the pillars to be the only things holding up the second floor, with no signs of it caving in in certain places, which was a welcome surprise. He finished the whole thing off with wood like he had done with the first floor and also took time to finish the windows on that floor the same way as he had done the others.
Next up was the ceiling, though he kept future expansions in mind as he ordered the stone and made sure to order some brittle stones with it that he could easily take out again. He was going to leave room for a potential way up as he expanded, though he had still no idea when that was going to be. A few other sleepless nights built the pillars as well as the ceiling. And then when everything stood it was time to finish it all with wood.
And when that was done he was able to focus on the seeds he had also ordered previously, plotting out the land he had alotted those seeds. They were still carrot seeds, so they would be hard to grow on this type of soil but that would slowly be fixed as Bryce dug up and added ground of the needed value. But it did help, as after a few nights of having spread the seed over the ground he had freed up for it he found small carrots growing. They were far from being grown, but they at least did something, and at the same rate of his original batch, too!
So after a few days that turned into weeks he would find himself lying back in the grass, looking up at the building he had built with his bare hands while munching on a few carrots.
Be what may, he went back to the same person that provided him with the stones from before, this time getting some larger slabs of stone and some mortar. The slabs he could break and build up however he wented, and the mortar was to make sure it stayed in place.
