Hello community of writers,
I am writing this thread because it is hard to ignore that we have feelings with what happens in character and out of character sometimes. Which is fine, you are human, just like everyone else, and you are allowed to have them.
So I am reaching out to everyone and their methods of dealing with it?
When it is out of character I do my best to be understanding what someone might be feeling by asking questions and finding solutions. However, I cannot be online all the time to be able to talk to everyone so sometimes taking a breather by stepping away might help. As staff we will do our best to handle any issues that arise and that not everyone may share the same opinion on matters that you must be willing to accept. It’s best to be kind at all times even if you don’t like something because then you become distracted from enjoying your hobbies.
In character feelings, well I look at it logically, this is a fictional character that I made who has bonds, flaws, and motivations. I like to think that actors are the biggest roleplayers out there who fulfill a role and still have a family outside of the character.
With that said, my characters are different from me entirely, and if I get mixed feelings about something that happens in character then I have to look at the big picture to figure out if it’s still worth writing ic. Fortunately, when that happens you can just respec your progress, if there are reasons where you cannot find the muse to keep going then it is time to start over, and as much as I feel attached to the character putting them on the back burner is just a way of dealing with that. I love writing so I prioritize that over a character I absolutely adore and will focus on the abilities to write aspect over struggling to keep a character.
I hope some of these methods are helpful for others and keep on having fun writing. Feel free to share your thoughts on this subject.
