Although Ruby had not live in Oolong city for long, it was hard not to notice the massive advertisement of the upcoming winter
event. From television and radios to billboard and flyers, it was basically what the whole city talked about as winter approaches.
Even while window shopping, the pinkette spotted small figurines and t-shirt of Duke Lancelot for sale. A decision which she instantly
regretted.
For when Ruby asked the vendor on the identity behind this white, furry, long-eared mascot, she was regaled with a long winding tale of Duke Lancelot
on how he was the current reigning champion when it comes to ice carving competition, how he chiseled his sculpture with such speed and precision.
She had to buy a t-shirt and came up with a hastily made-up excuse that she should be going elsewhere to shut up said vendor. Had she fallen for
a marketing tactic? Perhaps but she swore her ear could have fallen off if she had to listen to yet another word of Duke Lancelot. The
shop vendor even managed to shove an advertisement regarding the competition into her handbag.
"Ugh, quick mental note. Never ask a fan on their subject of interest unless you have tonnes of time to waste." she muttered to herself
as she looked into shopping bag. Her lips stretched slightly, it wasn't even the right size shirt for her. After stuffing it back into the
her shopping bag with a huff, she turned her attention to the paper next. Apparently it was for some ice sculpting competition with one million
zennies as the top prize. Ruby tilted her head slightly at that. While she did have some experience with sculpting (wood to be precise) she never
really considered herself good enough to join competition of this sort. Most of her projects were consisted of simple to carve animals
like dogs, ducks and cats. It wasn't until she read that the event would be shown worldwide and there would be consolation prize for
simply joining the competition that she decided to give the competition a shot.
There was a catch however, she would need a team in order to participate in this competition. Ideally one would need an expert in ice
sculpting or an ability that involved manipulation of ice into the shape they want but Ruby knew no one who possessed such ability. At
the very least none that would sell their service at a cheap rate, she reckoned most of them who were accomplished had already join the
competition themselves and that the ones left behind were not as talented. Not interested in haggling over the prize for competition
with those group she instead reached out for Fang, an individual treasure hunter she had gone on mission with often. Thankfully, Fang
agreed to her requests though she was kindly informed that she didn't possess the ability to mold ice into the shape ones desire.
Despite that Ruby remain undeterred, applying for them both in the competition before she began her research into previous ice sculptures.
Her times were mostly spent in the public library or visiting the ice block academy for inspiration. As none of them were experts, fancy
designs were immediately rejected from consideration. There was absolutely no way she could compete with the others on that, so instead
she decided to look for simple but clever designs. It wasn't until she was window shopping with her partner that she was inspired by the
snow globe on display. As ice sculptures are transparent, she wanted a design that can reflect off on that. Having settled on the design,
she would shop in an ice sculpting store for the tools required.
Of course, one would need more than a flash of idea to come up with a good ice sculpture. Her first few attempts to make an ice globe was
disastrous to say the least. Even when she was finally successful in carving them there was a question of how to bring objects into the
snowglobe. Stumped with the problem at first, she even considered retracting her application when her gaze fell upon Fang's boar mask.
It was then it occured to her to switch the theme from snow globe to piggy bank instead. With a slit from above she wagered it would
allow her to slip things inside them without having to shape the ice around the object. Now that she had a more clear idea in mind, the
pinkette continue to polish her skills, as a pig would have a slightly more difficult shape compare to a snow globe.
Time flew by and soon the day of the competition arrived. Making their way to the helipad Ruby watched with wonder as her eyes caught
sight of the helicopter meant to pick them up. Arms wrapped around Fang, she flashed her a signature grin to beckon her to hop onto it.
As this was her first time getting on a helicopter and lacking the ability of aerial navigation, she was practically brimming with
enthusiasm. Even as the helicopter lifted off the ground, she watched through the window and point out at the city under them with
excitement.
At least she was, until she noticed several different helicopers joining them from every direction as they made their way to the arena.
Surrounded by cameras and thousands of audiences from every direction, she cannot help but feel slightly nervous though outwardly she
donned a bright smile on her face. As they walked into the arena, they were approached by another beastperson. It took Ruby a few moment
before she realized that the one she spoke with was the Countess herself. Taking the microphone from her, she would then introduce her
name and gave a small description of her background. Once she was done she would offer the microphone towards Fang next so as to allow
her to give her own introduction.
"We are Golden Tusk! We shall give it our all~" she ended before handing back the microphone back towards Countess Iris.
