The explanation was as good as Caffey could give, and she found herself dreading any questions Saaya might ask about it. She had a firm understanding of the tenets, and a firm belief in what each one meant, but that didn’t mean she was anywhere near confident in her ability to defend those viewpoints. That was something she’d been trying to get better at, to truly deserve the title of master, before she returned home. The dread of any incoming questions faded as she realized Saaya had none, at least none relating to that. The question that came instead, however, caught Caffey equally off guard. What did she want for potential students? Students weren’t really a reason she’d left the dojo, but she was a master anyways, so didn’t that make her obligated to teach some? Saaya was certainly willing to learn, and eager to do so under Caffey, at least assuming that was the point of this question. Furthermore, Caffey could see some potential in Saaya, and had been blown away by the young girls ability with ki control, as well as quickly she’d learn to run, so it would be irresponsible not to give her a chance… Wouldn’t it? After taking a moment to compose herself, Caffey answered, without really thinking about it, answering in a truly honest manner. “Dedication. Potential. A willingness to learn. The desire to help people is big, too. I wouldn’t want to train anyone who would go on to betray what I feel our school stands for, you know?”
Her voice projected confidence she didn’t feel, but she refused to look unsure in front of Saaya, at least in this matter. There was no reason for Saaya to know that she’d be Caffey’s first student, if things went that way. Or, at least, her first formal student, the Cobra Master had trained many of the younger students as they came into the Dojo, teaching them the basics of the style, though always greatly aided by the more experienced masters. That wasn’t a choice here, though. So, she’d do her best, and hope for Saaya to do the same. Deciding not to dance around the issue, Caffey voiced her thoughts to the girl, looking her in the eye again with false confidence. “Are you asking because you’d like to try being a Cobra disciple?”

"Desire to help people...," Saaya muttered as she repeated every word Caffey said in her head and ran over the meaning of each. She risked missing Caffey's followup question. The girl seemed to be changing her attitude, speaking with more intensity and purpose than before. There was no rambling of questions, instead it almost seemed like Caffey's interest hung on the last thing she said. Saaya drew her attention to the lingering memory of it. In all honesty, Saaya had never seen herself as a protector of people. She found people, largely, incredibly annoying. They were petty, weak, short-sighted, arrogant, selfish, and judgemental. Would they ever recognize what she'd do for them? She thought about it. Was that what she wanted from them? That question lingered in her mind, almost causing her to smile. Kinda, yeah. She wanted to be noticed, finally. To be seen as someone to be treated with respect, to not be bullied. She wanted to be admired, to be considered someone worth aspiring to be like. Wouldn't that be cool? Maybe she did want to protect people, then. Not just to get their thanks. There was something more that she wanted from them. Maybe it was for them to see what she did and be good people, too. She couldn't know what she wanted from herself until she sought to define it, though. Her eyes met the fire of Caffey's intense look and did not back down. "I'd like to try," she said finally, "maybe I'm not strong enough. But I want to get stronger. That's why I left home..."She thought back to her dad and the longing look on his face as she left, and to the memory of her mother. She was of small degree of Saiyan ancestry, the source through which her pride in her background originated. She was an heir, however distant, to the legacy of Vegeta. But, right now, as she thought back to the moment, she could only consider the look in her dad's eyes. There was a sadness in them, sure; she knew he'd miss her. But there was a hint of pride, something she wasn't sure she had realized before. Maybe there had even been a sign of a grin. She could imagine him, now, whispering to the gods: "Kick some ass." She didn't want to betray his pride by kicking just anyone's ass. He may have been 'only human' but he'd been there, every day, to watch her lessons and take her home. She told herself she'd have to go home at the end of this journey and tell him her achievements, and see that look of pride again.
