Appearance: Koma has slightly tanned skin, bushy black eyebrows, and unkempt black hair pulled back into a ponytail. These are the things which you will recognize about him without a moment’s hesitation. His eyes are grey bordering on charcoal colored when angered. Typically he wears black baggy shorts, and a loose fitting red tunic covered by a blue jacket and various accessories.
Personality: Koma is driven, greedy, and wants to make a name for himself. He is not the altruistic type who will do things without being paid for things often, but as much as he resists it somewhere in his heart he has a heroic spark, albeit buried deeply behind rage and insecurities shielded by gruffness. He donates money to the monastery and orphanage near his home town, but he does not claim to have done so. He has almost died no less than four times on the battle field in his time as a Samurai in the armies of the Pig Demon Duchies numerous dukes. Yet he still stands living, still stands fighting.
Determined, greedy, grumpy, callous, with a dark sense of humor, with a firm religious conviction. In another life he would have been a paladin of Kami and Korin. But this is not another life, this is a broken destiny.
History:
Koma was born to a boisterous drunk who wouldn’t give up and a mother who had him and dropped him on the drunk’s door step. In the village of three cave he grew up and it was there that he learned the skills which would make him what he dreamed to be. His father was not always a drunk, you see- for once he had been a great martial artist in the service of the White Cat Clan- those who claimed direct descent from the great Z fighter ‘Yajirobe’ himself. The Ronin who had inevitably started it all in the Far Western Lands known as the Pig-Demon Duchies, alongside the Z-Fighter Oolong.
His father was not a descendant of Yajirobe, just a hard working student of the martial arts and from the time that he could walk his father began to train him as a swordsman and martial artist. His father worked as hard as an one-armed veteran could to take care of him, but they were always left wanting, and Koma was always filled with dastardly questions like what was a mother? Who was his mother? Why had she abandoned him?
Koma’s name had been picked out by his mother, Spin, as a last gift to him when she gave him up to his father after his early infancy. The reasons for this abandonment of both him and his father were simple.
Spin was a princess of the White Cat Clan, herself a great martial artist. She was one who would have surely died on a certain night had the man known as Swing of Three Caves Village jumped to defend her with his own body, losing his arm in the process. She had petitioned the Duke of the White Cat Clan for an audience with Korin himself, to ask for a Sensu Bean so that the arm could be restored before it was lost, but the gift she wished to give him was denied. So she had given him the next best thing she could.
She gave him a son to live through and teach to be the greatest martial artist he could. And so Swing did, until the debts of his old days caught up with him and poor Koma became an orphan. It was on that day that he got his first scar, trying to use his father’s sword to defend his father after he had been downed. He would have died that day, left bleeding in the streets of Three Cave Village had a monk of Suzuku Temple not passed by.
Now an orphan, Koma was healed by the members of the Suzuku Temple and raised at the temple that they tended. In the mountain outside of Three Cave Village, a new Samurai Clan was formed as the children of that orphanage grew and Koma taught them everything he knew only to find that the monks of Suzuku Temple knew even more, including the arts of energy control.
It was under the training of the Suzuku Temple that he and the best of his fellow would-be Samurai learned the arts of spiritual energy control and how to manipulate their ki physically. It was there that Koma son of Swing came truly into his own as a martial artist, and it was there that he and the would-be ruffians of the ‘Three Cave Clan’ met the largest, smartest, toughest, biggest of the orphans in the northern section of the Westlands.
They called her Kuma because she had been found deep in the three cave system living like a bear, or so the adults who found her had thought. In actuality, Kuma had been hidden there by the last of her father’s Samurai and trained to be a proper Samurai herself over the years. While she had to wear sunglasses in the daylight now, her fighting skill was greater than that of even Koma’s, and Koma and Kuma became rivals and fast friends. It was from Kuma that Koma and the others got their first swords, and as children playing at Samurai are prone to do an they pledged their allegiance to Kuma.
So the Bear Clan of Samurai was born, under Duke Kuma of the Three Caves Village. Their batch of orphans went to make their fortune in the world, and no one was ever made the wiser to the truth of Kuma of Bear Clan. Her clan had never been shattered, she had been planted in Three Rivers Village because of intel on a grandson or great-grandson of Yajirobe himself, a person who could be a threat to the Saber Cat Clan in their bid for dominance over the Pig Demon Duchies in time.
As the children of shattered lives tried to reforge their destinies, so too did a hammer prepare to make sure they stole broken. Time passed, adventures happened, and an enthusiastic young martial artist who his friends jokingly called Little Bear became a withdrawn, doubtful towards life martial arts expert who had survived many attempts at killing him.
Perhaps you should ask him about them some time, but make sure to bring a proper drink to get him to begin.

The jet black haired wandering samurai was quite sure of the fact that he had not lost his sword, or pawned it, or been robbed and yet here he was without his sword, bruised in places and with a headache. His breath smelled of the hard alcohol they sold down in Oolong City, despite the fact he didn’t have much of a taste for it. No, there had to be an explanation. Whoever had taken his sword had went far too thoroughly about trying to make it seem like he was drunk, then robbed and had it taken. While some wandering warriors would accept any kind of alcohol, that was not true of Koma, son of Spin. He was not the type of man who would drink just any alcohol, he barely had the taste for it, and when it was alcohol he drank it was only sake.
He could still remember the times he had drank sake in celebratory manner. First with his father when he had finally landed a hit upon him in their training. Then at the autumn festival when he turned sixteen under the care of the Suzuku Monastary’s Monks while living in the monastery’s orphanage. After that when he and the others pledged to form the Bear Clan under their Lord Kuma. As he thought of the times and the subsequent sights of drinking it after victory in battle, a tear slipped down his cheek from his grey eyes.
“That damn bastard. Kuma, Stripes, whatever your god damn name is…” he said as he climbed out of the ditch which he had woke up in, “You’re going to die at my hands, just you watch. I’ll get revenge for the Bears who trusted you as their lord and me as their commander. Those who called me Swinging Koma, Koma the Spinning Top, and most importantly, Little Bear. They were my friends before they were your canon fodder..”
The laughing of the man he had known as Kuma washing the hair dye out of his hair to show the stark red-gold hair color associated with the rulership of the Sabercat Clan in the Pig Demon Duchies still rang in his ears when things were too silent. As he stepped, he kept his pace, because standing still in one place made him relive the feeling of being ran through with the sword of the man who he had pledged fealty to on that day when the Clan Bear died at the hand of Clan Sabercat in a show of ‘dealing with bandits’ to the Council of Dukes.
Koma and the Bears had never been bandits. They had lived and fought like any true Samurai, but that time was passed. He was not Koma who commanded his comrades anymore. He was Koma, who was grizzled in spirit though not in body, who had survived multiple assassination attempts and who was the spitting image in some ways as his great-great-grandfather. He was Koma, who had no home and had no people.
No longer truly a Samurai, perhaps not even a ronin. As he got up from the ditch which he had been thrown in after being drugged and robbed, he headed towards the township he had been in. Where he had spent hard earned Zeni to buy a room in the tavern’s inn, a rare treat for the likes of him. Someone had drugged him, someone had taken his sword. Someone was in this town and knew something about it, he would find out about it and he would solve the situation.
***
He could hear rancorous laughter from the tavern when he got in it, where the town’s richest young man sat with his friends polishing their swords, and lighting Koma’s sword on fire with their whiskey and a lighter before swinging it around to the fearful expressions of the patrons.
“You want to say I shouldn’t be doing this? That some trash survivor of a bandit clan like the Bears deserves to have a sword? Well you’re wrong! I’ll do what I want and you’ll let me do it because I am the Lord of this town! Son of Duke Salmon, that’s right, I’m Lord Sashimi and don’t you forget it!”
His goons laughed with him as he did it, making the sword red hot and heating up the room around them as the innkeepers and tavern workers, not to mention other customers, very nervous. It was all that Koma could do from charge into the area and begin fighting them bare handed at the sight of his precious sword, the sword which held all his memories of battle and the memories of his betrayal by Kuma aka Lord Stripes of the Sabercat Clan. But he stood his ground outside of the tavern doors and shifted his pose to one of one which was drunk, pretending to be something he was not despite his blaring headache and vague feeling of being hang over.
After trudging through the doors he through his arm up in the air, pointing towards the wait staff. “Fi-fi-five hundred dumplings. The kind with soup inside of them. And some of your sake. Not the finest stuff, the stuff you guys drink. Also, a kebab. Just one.”
The wait staff looked incredulous at him but did what he said after the inn keep gave a nod. The boys playing with fire didn’t even notice him, until he had the plate of food in front of him and was eating them. He had already finished three fourths of the fifty, as well as the kebab when they did notice him.
“Hey! You! Bandit scum! What are you doing here!??!?!?”
“I’m not a bandit, and I’m eating… though to call someone a thief when you’ve got their sword, which you stole from them, right in your hands, is a mighty tall order, kid.”
“Kid? You’re like, seventeen at most! We’re not kids, twerp!”
“No, I’m actually thirty years old. Good genetics I guess- and more importantly to you.” he pointed at the mon at the back of his tunic, a roaring bear. “That’s not a symbol that I’m a member of the bear clan.” he sighed, flicking the wooden kebab stick back and forth like it was an orchestral baton as he slurped up one of the soup dumplings after saying that. As the goons chattered that this meant he was a grave robber, just as bad if not a worse offense, he finished the fiftieth of the dumplings and stood up, slapping his right hand on the table as he did.
“It’s a symbol that I AM THE BEAR CLAN.” he shouted, before spinning around and launching the kebab from his left hand’s grasp at the face of one of the goons. They dodged it by slapping it away with both hands, but they also let go of their sword in the process.
That was all he needed, speeding forward and grabbing the Katana from it’s unattended scabbard and yanking it loose. As the goon’s buddy swung at him he threw up his right arm and focused his spiritual energy hard into that area, letting it harden and ki push out of his pores to slow the area around his bandaged right arm. Using his own arm as a shield was ludicrous, but soon he had the sword of his opponent drawn and was spinning with it, slicing the one who had just got blocked with his arm in the stomach.
“You may have heard of me. Koma the Spinning Top. Also called Koma the Little Bear. I don’t want a bounty from a Podunk Clan like the High River Clan on my back in addition to the other clans that would love my head, so I’ll give you one chance. Take your buddy and leave. Live on.”
The Podunk son of a noble was enraged by being talked to like this and told his goons to move. He charged forward with the flaming sword and Koma ducked to the ground before punching out with his fists and the hilt of the sword. The force of the punch as enough to drop the warrior and send the superheated sword flying. To send it flying into a barrel of alcohol at the back of the Tavern, cutting it and lighting it on fire.
Koma’s heart sunk at the loss of his sword, but he did not give up from there. He threw the partially conscious princeling outside before shouting to everyone in the inn. “Get out or get a fire extinguisher. That barrel is going to blow!”
The last thing he remembered before it exploding was helping an old woman out the saloon doors of the tavern. His body hurt, he hurt. Worse still the son of Lord Salmon had gained a new name from it all, Blackfish, because part of his face had been burned permanently in the action. As Koma woke up, he did but one thing. Gathering the pieces he could salvage of his former sword as he squatted in the moonlight, and then escaping the scene.
They likely thought him dead. Koma son of Swing was not so easy to kill.
