{Travel Thread Info} Mission: Put your Star Cap On! Going where: Pilafland Coming from: Southern Islands Steps required: 1 The mainland. Flare felt weird stepping off from the ship taking her from the islands to here. The very tip of Pilafland. The air felt denser, less free, less radiant. But she pulled herself off the boar with that smirk still plastered on her face. She was going to make the most of it as this was really the start of her journey. To find the old master, perhaps even new ones. To find herself in the process... Just what she was, or should be. The village nor master Blaze ever really talked much about her differences with some of the other sun scions. The poor girl didn't even know she was a demon, really. Flare didn't seem to have any initial proficiency with the Sun arts over her peers. She only survived her culture's destruction due to her young age, cowardice, and genuine weakness. It was a miracle she was even competent now. And since she came of age, she was always just... wondering what was out there for her. Really. Beyond her family in Blaze, was there any other calling that really spoke to her? She liked cars. Jacking up vehicles. But it was more a hobby for the thrill than anything else. "Hiring! Hiring! Temps at the local Pilaf's Wheel-Ring Rides! Pays well, means well, no licenses needed! Two spots open! So please, come on over and put your happy face on!"It did NOT take long for Flare to start hearing some of the absurdities in these lands. A what ride? The small oni with bright blue skin was shaking himself around on top of a stepladder, speaking into a megaphone at the crowd coming off their own boat ride. Like, the southern islands often held festivals and stuff, but she never heads of a 'wheel-ring' before. A quick look around would tell the woman very quickly what the guy was referring to. A park. Massive, massive park. One with a bunch of Ferris wheels, tumbling wheels, and other spinning rides. Oh.

Travel Information: {Spoiler}Going To: Pilaf-Land Going From: Central Lands Steps Required: 2 (2000) No welcome to Pilaf would be complete without the recruiter, or a cheerful mascot! And, this one was unmistakable – the shinobu uniform and oversized foam wakizashi, as well as those wondrous ears, and such a big smile! Shu, the lovable fool! The Beastman everyone wanted to know! And, indeed, was quickly proving his popularity as he was soon surrounded by kids and parents alike; dancing from foot to foot in silent bliss. However, as the recruiter continued to spruik the park, the hound would soon be zipping about guests as per their orders, trying to offer the iconic caps to curious passersby – ”You, there, the Beastman with such gorgeous scales! A star cap would match your sheen! No? How about you, the young Saiyan wearing a contagious smile – imagine how many more smiles you could bring to Pilaf! Not today? Well, we’re always recruiting~” Even as Flare stared upon the magnificent sight of the park from afar, it’d become hard to ignore the mascot. It was a lot bigger up close… well, they were always oversized, but this one was big. And, inevitably, was heading her way as she gawked. ”Ah, you there – with the wondrous hair and fire in your eyes! See, Shu loves you already! You’d make a fantastic Mai to match him! How about it, young lady? You’d be the envy of so many, young and old!”Pointed out amongst the crowd and ambushed by that ridiculous mascot, it was hard to resist the sensation of fight or flight… or, maybe, Flare was more the type to get caught up by the wave of energy instead. It was a challenge, after all! And, those star caps were kind of cute. Though, something was really off about that mascot. In spite of seeming so benign, the Ifrit might just be able to feel some power coming from Shun – w-was it possibly the legend himself? No disguise would be as ingenious as himself! Or… perhaps it was simply a stark reminder not to mess with the staff too much. ”Of course, there are no lock-in contracts, and casual staff can spend their time off in the park… a whole day a month to have free reign of the greatest land on the planet! Could anyone resist that? Cheering up fellow guests, seeing all the sights, and getting the best seats in the house… being paid for tourism! A deal like this couldn’t exist, but it does, here in Pilaf-Land!””…Just never mind the legal waivers.”[416/780/2000] Starting PL: 13,180

Flare was indeed sidelined but what appeared to be a large dog... warrior looking figure. An obvious costume of sorts, piloted by none other than an employee of Pilafland! Those crimson eyes darted from the immediate attractions to this big guy in the suit, placing a hand on her hip as she checked the getup out. Honestly? The whole mascot look wasn't something Flare either cared for or really seen. And she could now understand now why it wasn't as prevalent a thing in the Island's festivities. It all seemed as plastic and fake as the man's adverts.
"Shu, ehh? Well, thanks, but I have not a clue what this 'Mai' is." As graceful as always, the larger than life sun scion stood firm in her assessment, eyes only prying away momentarily between glances at the surrounding areas. Nothing really stood out to her as a 'Mai'. Perhaps it was more a person/ A servant? Ehh, it sounded like a job either way.
"Well, I am a tourist, and gettin' some extra zeni to keep me well fed for my exercises isn't a bad call. Alright, weird dog suit Shu, tell me what I gotta do for this and I'll entertain the idea! If it's so simple as greeting people and walking around with a smile!" She'd admit and never mind those legal waivers. Never heard of such a thing, so caution was out of the window! head-first into every single thing she got into, per usual. After this little short introduction she'd start following the mascot recruiter to actually make this proper and official! Sign her up!

Flare’s admission of having no idea who Mai was earned a horrified gasp from the little oni who’d picked her out of the crowd – and, surprisingly, from a few of the other people disembarking as well! Shu took a moment to feign disbelief, although it wasn’t quite as convincing coming from a giant beaming ninja dog. Still, they would just as quickly move on, particularly as the demon slipped down from their little stepladder, forms already in hand.
”A fine, fine choice! Unfortunately, Shu here is feeling oh so shy, so let me do the talking for now!” purred the demon, waving a pen and papers in front of the sunny girl – Shu gave a friendly shrug, and still didn’t chime in. ”It’ll be good exercise, too! Mai’s popular, you’ll get quite a workout! And as you say, it’s so easy. Greet people, smile, put on a show, beat monkeys with a wrench, hand out flyers; no problem at all! Here’s the papers… Shu will show you the rest.”
Shooing the pair away after Flare’s hands were full, the oni zipped back up the ladder to continue recruiting – while the less than subtle ninja-dog herded Flare into a nearby staff tent so she at least had a table rather than having to use someone’s back as a surface. Things were… quite different in the tent, though. Less crowded, but the resting temp staff were sweating bullets besides their own mascot costumes – and Shu promptly joined them.
With a gentle ‘pop’, the head of the dog would come off, revealing a somewhat toasty and rather unimpressed fox underneath it. ”Geez. If I had one more punk kid askin' where Mai was, I was gonn' use this foam stick in less than fam'ly friendly fashi'n.” grumbled the huge girl. It was a little comical to see her now – the mascot suit hadn’t been oversized, its wearer had been oversized. And, that tail had seemed far too fluffy for a Shiba like Shu… now it was clear why. ”Looks like it’s you and me against the world, at least for a few shifts. I’m Waka… uh, and if you don’t know Shu and Mai, then I guess I gotta show the video…”
Every other intern immediately turned on her, with a plethora of sobbing and begging – ”No, not again!” “Please, no more!” “I can’t handle another hour of that stuff!” Waka just heaved a sigh. This wasn’t even close to the worst job she’d had… geez, kids these days. ”Okay, I’ll give the short versi'n, best as I can. Mai’s all serious and cool. She’s the one with the nifty outf't. Shu’s the doof's. But, they want Mai to be more friendly lately, so take it easy… hm, but, I think it’ll fit you fine. Just… don’t lose your temp'r or anyth'ng, alright? Sign those sheets, chuck on the outf't, and then go out and show the world how friendly Pilafl'nd is.”

Flare just gave a little short chuckle at the crowd's gasps and exacerbation! If she were a more careful girl she'd probably retreat a little more in her stance at the scoffing, but it seemed to actually just encourage the little stinker. The demon seemed to not care as much of her ignorance, shimmying on down to shove papers into her hands. Those crimson eyes snapped from the large SHU mascot and instead faced the tiny little demon for a moment. Almost confused at the suddenness now. No background checks, nothing, just chuck a gal in a suit?
"Ahh. Alright, that sounds like it's easy enough! Just gotta put on a costume and act. Well, show me the way, Fluffy-butt." The tent she was escorted into was a bit of a surprise. More workers just outside their own mascot and costume designs. And Shu themselves was revealed to just be a big lady. Actually, REALLY big. Flare had to rub her eyes before realizing the costume was filled by that big bit of woman. If there were a time to feel a little self-conscious, it'd be now. But she was still covered up, and Flare felt no such things. Waka it was. She'd return in kind with a wide smirk.
"Call me Flare, hun. So I just gotta walk around with ya in these things?" Aside from the clear photo of the classic duo and Pilaf himself being plastered near the tent's dressing area, the woman took notice firstly in the only non-mascot looking wear in there. Some form of vague military wear, by the looks. Luckily for Flare, it seems they made them in all sizes. This small thing wasn't gonna fit normally.
"So I gotta just put the stuff on, act nice and full of energy? Think I could do that. Surely the crowd can't be THAT bad." Flare was the one getting to wear the dress and... Wig? There was a little bit of hesitation. The dark lady's carrot hair was flooffy. But, she'd get it all on after scribbling her name upon those waivers and such. Just tossing her jacket and gi pants to slip on this Mai stuff in the dressing room. She... Well, she got the best one that'd fit. Don't think Mai was ever this well defined or filled out. She'd eye all the other workers, including Waka with a bit of a sigh. Tugging at the collar of the jacket.
"I know I shouldn't be the one complainin', but... Sheesh, does this stuffy crap look on me?" She wondered how ANYONE wore anything like this. And for long periods of time. She got a good feeling she'd get a better idea once she and miss Waka stepped out of that tent... Sun lady or not, she was not keen on suffocating her body.
