Freckles all over her face, curvy but petite, fair skin; rune-like tattoos that crawl up her left bicep and towards her chest; they are ancient looking and climb upwards like vines towards sunlight. On her right side, there is a jagged scar from where her neck meets her right shoulder, down to the center of her chest.
Personality:
Percy is kindhearted but guarded. She craves companionship, but finds, more often than not, that she struggles to make friends. Percy has a smart mouth, and is extremely stubborn. She is passionate and has a soft spot for misunderstood people. On first glance, Percy is snarky and closed off, perhaps a little unapproachable; however, to those she cares for and trusts, she is protective and doting. Don’t call her Persephone.
History:
Persephone Arch is descended from the Gallizenae, a small tribe of Druid priestesses from a remote, uncharted island. Though the children of the original Gallizenae have scattered across the world, new branches of the Gallizenae have formed and live quiet lives in their own thriving communities. Historically, the Gallizenae were political advisors, healers, prophets, and the conduits of nature. They can bring riches or ruin, communicate with the earth itself, and have been revered and feared for time immemorial.
At least, that’s the story that has been passed down from every mother to every daughter in her village. Percy’s mother, and her mother before her, through nearly 3 centuries, were born and bred Matriarchs to their clan. They were born with powerful, Druidic blood that allowed them to communicate with nature and the supernatural, and provide magical aid to those who sought them out; for a price.
Percy was born to take her mother’s place, as every Arch daughter had for generations. As years passed and she endured the strict training under the Matriarch’s watchful eye, it became clear that Percy didn’t have the affinity of Druidic magic that her predecessors had. She loved nature, her history, and her village, but her magic was unrefined and weak. She wished and prayed desperately for her powers to awaken, but her prayers went unanswered.
As she came to her 16th birthday, where girls became women in the eyes of her clan, she possessed virtually no natural talent for the divine magic of the Gallizenae. The village demanded a viable successor, and through the laws in the ancient tomes that her people followed, they called for combat. A fight between young Percy and a nominated would-be Matriarch, Artemis; a young woman that Percy grew up beside and bonded with. The victor of the battle would become next in line to be Matriarch of the clan, and the failure cast out and erased from Gallizenaean history.
Percy was at a severe disadvantage, and was overpowered by Artemis almost immediately. She didn’t want to fight her beloved friend, or cause her harm. She hoped that the same sentiment rang true with Artemis, and begged her to yield, but was met with no kindness or remorse as Artemis struck her down by summoning the roots from the trees around them to attack. They came at her like a living whip, striking her on her right side from her neck down to the center of her chest.
She had lost. Not just the battle, but everything. Her family, her clan, her title, and her home. The healers stopped the bleeding of her battle wound, but a jagged scar remained, and ancient runes crept up her left bicep, telling all Druidic peoples that she had been disgraced and cast out. Forced from her home and all that she knew, Percy journeyed into the world, searching for sanctuary and purpose.
RP Sample: Percy peered up at the massive tree before her, squinting slightly as she shielded her eyes from the bright sunshine peeking through the cover of the forest. "You'll do nicely," she murmured to herself as she dropped her bag from her shoulders and sighed. Rolling her shoulders, her muscles and joints loudly protested as she began stretching to relieve the soreness from her trek. She pat the tree kindly, like you might pat the back of a young child, and slumped against the trunk. "Just passing through. Could use a rest." Percy's voice cracked as she yawned, shaking her head gently. She had always made a habit of making her presence known to nature; it was in her blood, after all, to respect the earth.
It never seemed to notice her. Whether that was because she was eschewed from the Gallizenae, or if she really was entirely hopeless as a Druid, she didn't know. Both possibilities made her heart ache as she scratched the right side of her neck absent-mindedly. "Just a quick breather. Then I'll move on." Percy grunted as she lifted her bag into her lap; she had been carrying her life, or what was left of it, in a makeshift backpack that consisted of an artfully folded and tied piece of thin but sturdy cotton. She dug through its contents carefully until she came across what she was looking for. "Lunch time." With a lopsided smile, she picked up a small drawstring bag full of fruit and nuts. Most of her meals while traveling for the past 4 years consisted of plants and nuts, with the occasional fish or small bird, which suited her just fine. She was never particularly good at hunting, and it brought her no joy to cause harm to living creatures.
As she chewed her meager meal, she heard a rustle in the brush surrounding the tree she sat beneath and briefly tensed, before the noisemaker made themselves known. "Hey, little friend. Got a good nose, huh?" A young doe had cautiously walked towards the scent of Percy's fruit, sniffing the air as she curiously eyed the young woman under the tree. Percy sighed and pulled a handful of berries from her bag and held her cupped hands out. "Go on, then. Eat." The young deer crept forward, following her nose, before going head first into Percy's outstretched palms. Percy stifled a chuckle so as not to scare the creature, but grinned widely in spite of herself. "Careful, careful, you're going to choke if you don't slow down!" The doe finished eating and sneezed, startling herself. Percy giggled and gently reached out to her new friend to give her a pat, but recoiled as she noticed a large buck enter the clearing, pawing the ground in agitation. Percy leaned back flat against the tree trunk and held her hands in front of her, palms facing forward. "Looks like your father's come to find you, little one...I meant no harm. Off you go." The small doe trotted back towards the huge buck, and with one last huff of warning, he nudged the deer away from the clearing, leaving Percy alone with her thoughts.
It was nice while it lasted. Alone again, huh? She sighed and shook her head before leaning forward and retying her bag, tossing it over her shoulders. "I'm off, then. Thank you for your shelter, and for sending companionship." Percy whispered sadly to the sky before setting off once more on her seemingly endless search for somewhere to call home.
