On a sandy key somewhere within the southern sea..
Helix rests against a solitary palm tree, enjoying a nourishing drink of fresh water from a waterskin he had tucked away in his belt before offering it to his companion. Next to him was another Namekian, a member of the Warrior-Clan named Calup, who graciously accepted it, taking a long, savoring drink of his own. For nearly the whole day the two had been making their way north across the sea, swimming from their own island ever since the tribe detected a strange and ominous energy that appeared somewhere off the coast of the mainland. After a brief gathering, the Elders were in agreement on the appropriate course of action, but first answers must be sought and a scouting party was arranged to examine the anomaly firsthand. Calup turns his head off in the direction of the dark vibes radiating from their objective, focusing his ethereal senses, and shudders.
"The closer we get, the more..I don't know..dark it feels. I've certainly never sensed anything like it before. Not quite demonic, though there is a hint of familiarity to it that I can't quite put my finger on." Like Helix, he was one of the younger members of the Warrior-Clan. Though not very experienced himself, he a talent for sensing subtleties in ki and was one of the more nimble and quick members of the tribe. Between the two of them they were chosen for this mission, although their orders were to simply investigate the source and determine the magnitude of its threat, not engage any hostile forces or put themselves in risk. Of course it was obvious by now that the Namekian tribe of the Southern Islands were not the only ones to notice. Several other notable powers in the world were converging towards the strange force that had so suddenly appeared, and the curiosity was starting to get to them both.
"What do you make of the energy signals moving towards it?" Helix asked, his voice deliberately concealing what he was beginning to feel about all of this. At least half a dozen others were making their way to the source of the mysterious energy, all of them beyond either of the young Warriors. The prospect of possibly running into so many powerful outsiders was both intimidating and intriguing, an experience neither of these alien fighters had faced before.
"They don't feel nearly as sinister as our objective, but I get what you're hinting at, Helix. Realistically we should turn back now and report in. This is already beginning to look serious enough to warrant the Clan moving out in force..but we aren't doing that, are we?" Despite his youth, Calup was still older than Helix, and was able to watch how the youngest of the Warrior-Clan had grown over the years. He understood the itch that was stirring within his companion, but Helix didn't drop the charade of trying to hide what he felt, offering the other a nod and checking the position of the sun.
"If we cut straight towards it now, we'll have time to take one more brief rest and check things out at first light tomorrow. We were tasked to evaluate the threat, not flee the moment we sensed something from afar." Calup stifled a laugh, he could read his cousin like a book. Nobody would say it out loud, but the Earthling spirit had rubbed off on Helix more than he knew. A peaceful life within Namek's ages of tranquility would have done the Warrior no good. He yearned for excitement in a way that few of his species could feel or understand. The little threats and problems that harangued their island on a regular basis were no longer enough to sate his appetite for life. Soon he would have to be let out into the open world properly, truly on his own, to see life the way the Earthlings did. Perhaps after seeing his share of this peculiar planet's wonders and mysteries, could he settle down again among the tribe in peace. Until then, any opportunity to break away from his leash would only overwhelm him with temptation.
"You can stop with the act, Helix. I'm looking forward to seeing what this is all about as well. As long as you don't get ahead of yourself with these outsiders you're bound to run into, I'm fine with taking a closer look before we report back." Helix smiled back, relaxing a bit. He had indeed been trying to maintain some professionalism in all of this, after all at his age he was still rarely tasked with traveling very far on assignment, at least with so few to keep an eye on him. He knew Calup shared a touch of his restlessness, but he didn't want to be the only one to come off eager in the mission. There was some relief in knowing that the two shared that sentiment.
"Molus will regret agreeing to send you to keep an eye on me then, if this is how its going to be."
"He certainly wouldn't like the plan I have in mind, either. When we get to this place, I'm going to hang back and stifle my energy. With a low profile, I can scan the area and keep an eye on you without tipping our hand that you've got backup if things go south. Like I said, I don't think these others traveling to the island feel that bad, but it doesn't hurt to have a plan B. All we have to do is see what's giving off this energy, so no flashy heroics. Just find out what you can, don't pick a fight, and then we'll get out. Think you can handle getting some up close and personal recon on your own?"
Helix focused on the journey ahead, standing and evaluating his own power, already running simulations of how he might handle these powerful entities face to face. "Let's get going."
