Awareness came slowly back, slowly bring more details like the tide coming in at the shore. There was only darkness at first and a vague sensation of floating. Strange symbols appeared before his eyes, he did not them at first... but they began to resolve and become clear.

Greetings Riku Masumura. Please step forth from the pod.
Riku's eyes opened and he found that he was floating in some sort of *tank* the word came to his mind unbidden. He reached out to touch the clear front of his prison and found that the backs of his hands were coated in metal. Metal is class 2 katchin alloy. The words popped up unbidden in his mind once more... what was that? He looked back to his hands with dull horror... what had happened? He turned his hands over... he still had his own skin on the palm side.. I'll still be able to feel my swords... Good. I am going to kill the son of a rat that did this to me. He reached up and felt a mask of some sort on his face, allowing him to breathe then the skin on his cheek. He took a deep breath and let it out... not all metal then? His hands continued on their journey and found more metal implanted on the sides of his head. Anger started building within him. He tried to repress it... but looking down he could see that his legs had been altered as well as a large portion of his torso. He balled up his fists and lashed out at the clear barrier before him. He felt the impact run up his arm but the barrier barely showed a mark. He set his back against the rear of the pod and kicked out with his feet viciously, once Thump, twice; THUMP, crack.... Three times and it CRACKED open explosively and shattered. He was carried out with the liquid and shattered glass to come to rest on the floor. He reach up and ripped the mask off and took a deep breath. The air was stale and recycled but it was air breathed in freedom. Rik took a few moments and then hopped to his feet, disregarding the few shallow cuts and looking for anything that would help him escape. In the corner, by his pod, there was something... a reticle popped up and surrounded the objects, Rik's Swords. Rik's Shoes. He smiled and picked the blades up and looked quizzically at the shoes. They were something called sneakers according to his info dump. He took them as well and turned towards the door. Now he just had to find something to wear and he could try to make his way out of here.
He wandered through the facility, blade drawn and ready to strike. It was empty and had been for some time. There was a thick layer of dust covering everything and nothing had disturbed it. He found a room that was some kind of shipping or storage room and was able to locate a fabric that was very durable. His eye display also informed him it was fire retardant. He set about making himself some clothing, a rough shirt, some pants and a cloak to cover the hideous metal that had become part of his body. A few hours later he had a loose black coat with a hood, a shirt that left his metal shoulder free as he could not get the proportions right to make a regular garment and some pants. He finsihed by putting on the sneakers and using some twine and cloth to make a rough belt. He began wandering the halls again and found a set of stairs going up. He ran up them, sensing the way out was approaching.
At the top of the stairs, he was met with a blank wall. His deep voice broke the silence, almost feeling blasphemous, "No... there must be a way out... I won't be stopped!" He felt the stone and his HUD popped up some info, Cinderblock, breakable with force. He drew back his fist and gathered his ki together before launching his punch. Cinderblock and dust exploded out into... a room with a lot of clothing. Rik kicked the bottom of the hole and widened it a bit before stepping through the jagged hole onto the rough grey carpet. A sweaty fat man came storming up to him and grabbed his makeshift coat, "I don't know who the hell you think you are pal, but you're going to pay for..."
Rik's face twisted in surprise and then anger that this man would handle him so; he had been imprisoned beneath his den of commerce. He backhanded the man and watched as he flew back contemptuously. "You should know better than to touch those of the samurai in anger, merchant." Rik set his hand on the hilt of his sword and started looking for the exit to this inane place. He had a new world to discover and hopefully revenge to achieve. He began stalking through the store, ignoring the screaming and running people before him. They were no threat to him and called for no action; in time he would establish himself and blend in better. He looked up at the strange torches on the ceiling; they were smokeless and let out a soulless yellow light. Are these merchants sorcerers of some sort? Like many other things, this needs to wait until later. Even as he started to look away, information regarding electricity and lights began parsing through his mind, summoned by his interest it seemed. Finally he reached the door and heard some sort of horrible screeching wail echoing through the night. Information scrolled in front of his eyes:
Analyzing sound pattern...
...
....
Sound identified; Local authorities have been summoned.
Recommended courses of action: Flight or Engage with extreme prejudice.
Rik paused for only a few moments and decided that until he knew more about this time and society, discretion was the better part of valor. He slipped into a nearby alley and started running. He almost tripped as a square appeared in the corner of his vision, labelled :mini map: showing potential paths. He picked one that seemed likely to lead him away and kept going. He had always been quick... but whatever had been done to him had made him so much faster. He exited the alley and did not even pause as he instinctively leaped over the busy street, with a blurred impression of its strange metal carriages and its stink and noise. He landed and ran between two more buildings, briefly illuminated by the myriad rainbow of the neon lights from the street and window signs. He was hardly breathing hard at all; he slowed down a bit to a walk and started to think about where he might be able to find refuge until the authorities gave up the immediate search. He turned a few more corners and found a recessed doorway that he ducked into, taking a little shelter from its walls and hiding in the shadows it offered.
He tried to understand how the words kept coming up in front of his eyes... he hesitantly said out loud, "Can you tell me where I am?" half expecting nothing to happen and feeling like a fool for talking to himself...

Rik watched history play out before his eyes, absorbing the first bits easily enough; but as the video went on, skimming over all but the most important events he began to feel a bit lost. His own time seemed but a footnote in history. He himself was not even that... it was hard to accept. He closed his eyes and sighed and realized that he had all of the knowledge at his fingertips now. Guess this machinery is good for something at least. He would persevere and understand it all. Eventually. It was probably time to move on for now, staying still too long made it easier to be found if the local authorities *Police* the word came to him - were still seeking him out. He stepped out into the alley and paused as he heard the scraping sound of a footstep on the ground.
He turned to face a group of 5 people spreading out before him. The short pig demon in the front sneered, "Told ya, someone lurking behind the casino, probably casing the joint. Let's teach him better manners than hanging out where you don;t belong. Shake him down and bring me anything interesting he's carrying." The pig demon began to fade back behind the thugs accompanying it. The began swaggering forward and Riku shifted his stance, appearing relaxed and at ease, hands haled out at just above waist level. He analyzed the first two, bug burly humans; they moved like they knew how to scrap, but they were not trained warriors. The next two were clad in trench coats, a bit smaller but still appeared to be in fine shape, and moved more like warriors. One was a human while the other was... something else. He looked human but he had a tail... his display helpfully popped up in from of his eyes:
Detecting species...
Success.
Species is Saiyan. Uploading info for review.
He shifted back a couple of steps and took in the info - natural born fighters that only got stronger the more they fought. Sounded like worthy foes to be honest. One of the humans finally grew impatient and charged forward in front of his comrades. Rik swayed to the side of the clumsy haymaker and grabbed the man's wrist, dragging him further forward as he jabbed him twice below the ribs and heard the breath whooshing from him. He kicked down sharply and heard the man's ankle crack as the man let out a breathless scream. 1 down.
He danced away from the man writhing on the ground and turned his full attention on the other thug. He was a bit more cautious after seeing him in action, leading with a more measured punch combination. Rik could respect a man who learned from the mistakes of others. He took two small steps, carefully moving out of each attack and then counter attacked with three fierce kicks to the man's leg, ribs, and head. The thug collapsed into the wall of the alley and slumped, out cold. The two warriors paused and shed their trench coats revealing swords at their belts which they drew with steely rasps. Rik's heart began beating faster and his blood seemed to dance in his veins as he placed his hand upon the handle of his blade. The human moved in and swung at his head with an efficient and quick motion. Drawing his sword from the scabbard Rik brought it up to clang against the other man's blade and then snapped a backhand into the man's hamstring and danced away so that the man's counter stroke fell short. The saiyan shuffled forth and launched into a complex series of cuts that came at him from different angles and timing. Riku stepped out of the way of a few, parried a few and even missed on that made a skirrling sound as it drug against the metal plating on his shoulder. He nodded at the man and pressed his own attack, "Well done, truly. Let me show you a few things of my own."
He began moving into the Circle of the Moon style using wide sweeping attacks to make his foe over commit to defending from them. It took him a few attacks before he had the man open... he quickly swapped to a lightning fast triple thrust, the first two striking the man's right shoulder and causing him to drop his blade and fall to the ground as the third thrust flew over him. He kicked the saiyin inthe face and stepped over him towards the suddenly sweating pig demon who reached into his pocket and threw something on the ground, "This is all I got, take it and leave me be!" as he fled. Rik picked up the folded paper, which his HUD identified as ZENNI: Currency. Amount: 1,000.
Riku stuck it in a pocket and started trotting away as the men groaned. He was sure their master would come back for them. Eventually. If not, they could leave his service he was sure, and find a more worthy one. For now, it was time to find out more about this time and seek his place in it.
