The peace of Oolong city was about to get... rattled. Those with sharp senses could feel trouble approaching from miles away. Literally. It was like a beacon of mischief, singing and dancing with barely contained power. A never-ending lie told by a rambling narrator who never got their story straight. And it was coming right at them... A pink and black streak pierced the sky like a jagged lightning bolt, zigzagging along the way. Its arrival was heralded by a gleeful, girly yell. “Miss T~! Hooooooooooi~!” For a certain, important woman that voice should’ve been very familiar indeed. Without any tact or grace, the uninvited visitor barged in through an open window. Actually, the entrance was just about too narrow. She tripped on the windowsill. Much like a rubber ball, she rolled and bounced across the floor, before coming to a skidding stop. Her squishy body flopped back weakly... Suddenly, the excited creature bounced back onto her feet. Not even a bruise stuck to her sturdy body. She had gotten stronger... And her absurd regeneration had gotten even faster... Smiling brightly, she waved around a big envelope stamped with an official-looking seal. “Hey, Miss T! Hey, look!! I got a real letter~!!!” Her pure excitement was overflowing. And she didn’t even know what the letter contained. Continuing the utter disregard for proper decorum in the presence of a princess, the childish teen offered her treasure. “Please, Miss T, read this! I wanna know what it says!” Only now the girl stopped to actually take in her surroundings. Just what kind of room and situation had she barged into anyway...? It was common for the locals of Oolong City to keep their power levels unsuppressed, it was the first warning sign to keep away from anyone who was that strong, and it was part of the culture of the western lands fiefdom. Clove was inside the Pagoda at the Zen Tea Clan estate, the tower was the home of the Dandelion clan quintuplets, and their parents away in the Northern Lands so it was the responsibility of the Tea Clan and the White Cat Clan to take care of the children.
The familiar power level signature of Majin Zam was detected for miles, fast approaching, in an erratic pattern. Clove rushed over to the level her former disciple’s trajectory was aimed for, catching a glimpse of the bubble gum pink Majin fly through a window, and the Tea clan princess transformed out of her demon form into a cross between it and her human form to rush at her side. Crimson red butterflies danced around her fiery red hair the same aura as her giant form.
Zam bounced back, faster than she had ever witnessed, and handed her a letter with an official seal she had seen before as an invitation to the WMAT. A smile formed on the Tea Princess’ face, rather than open it right away, she took a good look at how much the teen had grown since the last time they met.
“Congratulations Zam-chan!” Clove smiled, “You have been accepted to participate in the World Martial Arts Tournament located on Papaya Island. Do you want to participate in it? It is a little different from the Tournament in West City. I actually received an invitation as well but I recommended my mentor Melody instead...who I believe transferred it to her newborn son.”
As she stood there, her power level was significantly low, compared to their first meeting. After encountering a trio of teenage Tuffles, Clove was afraid that her significant power level would attract those rowdy bunch, so she had it lowered by her sister Juniper so she can normally walk around in her demon form without detection.

Growth was... a relative term, when talking about Majins and their malleable bodies. But Zam certainly had grown in some sense. For one, she was a whole inch taller, a fact which she was incredibly proud of. Soon, she too would be a cool adult doing adult things. Like drinking hot leaf juice. She had also grown slightly sturdier. More buff in places. Signs of training, maybe? More than mere physical changes though, the girl’s mentality had matured. Erm... Kind of. Her childish demeanor would probably never go away, but she had definitely learned some manners and patience. Please was a brand new word in her arsenal. It was all thanks to a certain princess whose stance and mannerisms she was subtly mimicking even now... Majin see, Majin do. The excited girl mirrored the demon lady’s warm smile. Even if the princess felt weaker than when they had first met, she was still the coolest adult around in the impressionable, golden eyes. “Ooh, I like your hair! It’s so pretty!” She had always wanted to grow her hair long too. ...Buuut whenever she tried, it would snap back to short after a couple of minutes. Oh well! When Clove revealed the secret of the letter, Zam’s eyes started twinkling like tiny stars. “Oooh, another fight party?! Yaaaaay!” Oh yes, she had learned another new word. Tournament. Sure, the gravity of the grand event was lost on her, but she got the general gist of it. At the mention of the island, she spaced out briefly. Her wild imagination bubbled, painting a picture of an island made entirely of papayas. Then, she dared to dream bigger. Maybe it was a papaya the size of an island! ...Well, the little glutton could dream. The chaotic creature shook herself out of the daze. She nodded rapidly. “Yup yup! I wanna join!” However, despite the overflowing excitement, she still managed to hold herself back. Somewhat. “Uhhh... How do I join? Where is that Papaya Island? And and are there any rules?” Now there was a question an immature child wouldn’t ask. The visit to the petting zoo and the bitter consequences of not following rules had left a mark, but definitely for the better. Words: 370 | 639 Natural PL at start: 46,011 Tags: Clove

“Thank you, it is my natural hair color, but it attracts too much attention so I am usually in my human form. I was rushed when you arrived so I did not have the chance to transform properly for you to recognize me.”The Tea Princess immediately recognized the subtle changes in Zam’s behavior, she did a proper greeting, followed by a compliment over her demonic hair, and wondered if the WMAT had rules which was quite the development since their last encounter. After nearly being banned from entering the zoo ever again to touch the endangered and innocent animals it made sense that the majin was cautious about going anywhere on earth with rules. “Well, you should open this yourself, first.” Clove handed the envelope back to Zam, “It’s like opening a present. So we can read it together.”As the bubble gum pink teen took the time to open her invitation, Clove reflected with her crimson colored eyes by staring out the window briefly, recalling the rules of the tri-annual tournament in the past, as well as the times her father Pine Tea participated. “If I remember correctly, you have to stay in the ring, avoid hurting the live audience, and most importantly not kill your opponents.”After a beat she continued, “I believe the rules change frequently, so there will be an announcement of them all, so make sure you pay close attention when the announcer who is not fighting and stands in the middle of the ring declares what the rules are this year. You will be told when it is your turn to fight, so make sure to wait patiently, watch other matches, and if you win you get to fight in the next match. If you lose any match you’re out of the tournament and you will have to try again in the next one. Did you get all that?”Since the pair of them were somewhere private, she figured it was time to show Zam her demon form, she put on a pair of black gloves and so her eyes changed from white to black sclera just like the majin’s but with red irises. “I was born this way but...earthlings are not fond of demons like us. So my sister and I take on a human appearance so that the locals do not judge us by our appearance alone but our merits. I hope one day people will not be afraid of our kind anymore...but I understand our chaotic nature is overbearing for some people.” [424] [777]

When the demon princess started explaining the basics, the small Majin listened closely. Stay in the ring? Yup, understood. Avoid hurting others...? Uh, okay... With each new rule, her expression grew more puzzled. Slowly, wisps steam started gently drifting from her head. Eventually, she nodded weakly. “Y-yeah... I... think so...?” Her spinning spiral eyes made it sound a little less convincing. She had grown a little more patient and mature, sure, but sadly she hadn’t gotten any smarter. Zam shook her head like a dog drying itself. Shoo, confusing thinking stuff! Once her head was nice and empty again, she turned her attention back onto the demonic woman. Wonder and awe turned the short girl’s mouth into a little o. The twinkling in her eyes intensified. “Ooooh~ Your eyes are just like mine!” Gold against crimson, right now, but she knew exactly what she said... The smaller demon’s gaze wasn’t always the happy gold after all. She cocked her head curiously. “What’s merits mean? And why do hoomans judge?” Difficult questions to answer, even more difficult to understand. Luckily, a more important distraction was right there in the girl’s hands. She tore the sealed envelope open with great enthusiasm. Fortunately, the paper inside stayed intact. She stared at it long and hard. She furrowed her brow. “Hrmmmm...” Then she flipped it upside down and stared some more. Silent seconds sauntered by... Without a word, Zam rose from the floor and hovered gently next to Clove. Showing her the paper, she asked again. “I... can’t understand the squigglies... Please read it for me?” While she now recognized each of the strange symbols thanks to the book the princess had gifted her, she had no idea how they all chained together. Reading was way harder than punching. Dear Sir/Madam Zam, it began... The letter went straight to the point, explaining that the Majin was invited to the 151st WMAT. In fact, the invitation was directly to the 1 Star Class, also known as the Unlimited Division. It explained that the decision was made based on her wide-spread reputation as a fighter. ...No mention of whether it was good or bad reputation though. Perhaps they didn’t care. A fighter was a fighter, right? Naturally, it also detailed the location and the starting time of the tournament. As the last line, the writer wished to see her there. Definitely a first for the chaotic destroyer. Words: 402 | 1041 Natural PL at start: 46,011 Tags: Clove

“Have you been practicing reading the alphabet yet, Zam-chan?” Clove smiled, she pointed with her black gloved hand at the letter itself, specifically over the Majin’s actual name wondering if she recognized it. “I can read it for you but you also need to learn how. So let’s start with something simple, do you recognize any of the character letters at all?”
For a moment, the Tea clan princess reflected on her question about humans judging, but it was not just them, it was also beastmen and other races.
“Earthlings judge what they fear most in the world. Demons have been chaotic by nature since the dawn of history so they fear us because of our past. So it is easy for them to recognize us just on appearances alone, so instead of interacting with them in the form I was born with, I made myself look human. I thought...it was a good idea at first but I regret it now.”
Clove visibly frowned, she was forced to sell her restaurants to Melody, stopped changing into her human form, reduced her power level, and has refused to leave the Pagoda they were in ever since she was nearly being killed by a group of delinquent Tuffles. All the confidence as a martial artist was gone so she dedicated the rest of her life to protect the Tea Clan. [229] [1,006] Majin Zam

Zam cocked her head, curious about this alphabet word just thrown at her. “You mean the big book of squigglies? Um...” There was an uncharacteristically long pause, accompanied by a lot of awkward fidgeting. “Uh... I started to, but... It didn’t have enough pictures and the big demons wouldn’t read for me... so... I kinda... got bored and forgot...” She finally admitted with a sheepish smile. Add to that her grand reunion with Nal and there had been no hope of learning. However, the curious girl had picked up one thing at least. When asked about familiar letters, she pointed at the capital Z. “But I know this one. It’s Zee, like in Zam.” Of course she would learn that one first. Her finger slowly traced to the right. “And this one’s... uh... ay? Like in the middle of Zam, but said different. Aaaand this one’s mmh, like...” She fell quiet. The imaginary hamsterwheel squeaked and the gears turned slowly, until... “Ooh, Zam. It me.” With the soft mutter, she tapped the text that did, indeed, spell her name. Some might argue that learning a three-letter word was better than learning a four-letter word. ...Any of the four-letter words, really. The small Majin lifted her eyes from the text, before all the squigglies made her head spin again. “Fear... us...?” She repeated with a puzzled look. After a moment, her expression brightened. “But that’s good! Grandpa demon always says that...” She scrunched up her face, mimicking a hundred years worth of wrinkles. Her voice turned into a dry wheeze. “The weak should fear the strong.” A mocking imitation... But not inaccurate. As her features snapped back to their youthful shape, she flashed a big, bright smile. “And Zam is super strong! So everyone should fear Zam~!”Words: 296 | 1337 Natural PL at start: 46,011 Tags: Clove

“Is that so? Are you sure those demons are your friends? Friends help you if you’re struggling with something.” Clove affirmed, curious to meet these demons one day, but was far too afraid to travel to the southern lands without a proper escort.
The Tea Princess observed as Zam attempted to read her own name on the letter, she nodded in agreement with the annunciation of the letters first, and then realized to pronounce it completely. “That’s right, it is your name, and the letters in your name can spell bigger words depending on the order. Like razzmatazz! Some day you will be able to read and write it and it will be easy.”
Of course, Zam may have been childish in her demeanor, but she was a quick learner--of things she enjoyed for the most part. Anything she found boring was never going to be part of her brainstorming when it was time to learn something new.
The black sclera with red irises peered over the letter again, reading the rest of it, and then spoke up, “You are being invited to participate in the unlimited power level division. There is also an unlimited team division if you’re interested in that, too. What do you think?”
The mention of the weak fearing the strong caused her to frown, “Being strong has nothing to do with anything especially if you’re outnumbered. It is easy to lose yourself in a moment if you’re over confident on strength alone when there are dangerous people on earth.” [254] [1,260] Majin Zam

Many people had questioned Zam about her friends. And her answer was the same every time. “Of course they are!” The childish chime sounded almost offended. Almost. She was quick to clarify, to defend her buddies. “Is just that... most of the big guys don’t know how to read either...” She poked her index fingers together awkwardly. Her friends always got really mad when she brought that up. Something about demon pride and stuff... But it was true though! “And the super smart demons haven’t come back after meeting these hero people...” Even the simple creature thought it was strange how the strongest in the village always disappeared after those people calling themselves heroes visited. Excitement bubbled again, when two great successes happened in a row. First, the small girl had read her very first word! She beamed brightly, very proud of herself. Second, Miss T revealed the gist of the letter. “Ooh, unlimited power~ Zam has unlimited power!” More than she realized... “Can I join both? I wanna join both!” Joining more things meant more fighting, right? Right! So obviously she wanted to join ALL THE THINGS! Clove’s lesson about the dangers of confidence flew right over Zam’s head. Instead, the cheeky girl puffed her chest proudly. “Is okay! Zam is super dangerous too! Hoomans say that all the time.” She flexed her biceps, making them bulge with power. “And there’s nobody stronger than Zam! Zam can beat up everybody!” Welp, there was confidence and then there was just being flat out wrong. The tournament would be... an eye-opening experience for the little braggart. “Ah! Well as a good friend, you can learn how to read first, and then teach the others. It is a good thing to learn because it opens up new possibilities.” Clove nodded, hopeful that her friends were still being nice, especially if they were able to learn at the same pace as the bubblegum pink majin. “Hero people? I am not sure how the southern lands operate but there is no such thing as Hero in the western lands apart from comic books. You can buy a few at a bookstore and learn to read them to better understand what a Hero is if you have time before the World Martial Arts Tournament begins between training for it. Is that something you want to get in the city while you’re here, Zam-chan?”
Black sclera with red irises blinked a few times before Clove laughed demurely, using her gloved black hand to cover her mouth, from the soft tone of her voice.
“Of course you can join both, you just need to figure out who your teammate will be. Maybe you can find someone soon? If not, you could always ask Baccer-kun.”
The determined Majin was certain she was able to win the tournament, Clove was not going to soften her confidence in the slightest, it was up to fate to decide the outcome of every battle. “I will be watching all your matches. I am confident you will win your first bout.” [243] [1,503]

When Clove suggested teaching others, Zam’s eyes widened. It seemed the idea had never crossed her simple mind. But now that it had been put into words... The softest little murmur left her lips. “Teacher Zam...” The twinkling returned... with bright vengeance! Her bright smile made her whole face shine. ...Metaphorically, of course. Otherwise it would’ve been pretty blinding. “I must learn how to read! Then I can teach all my friends!” For the first time in her life, she had a goal that didn’t include destruction. To invoke such dreams with mere words... Clove was a powerful demon indeed. In the excitement, the chaotic creature didn’t have much brain power to spare towards the conundrums of heroes. So she simply shrugged. “Dunno. That’s what they call themselves.” She was the type to believe whatever others told her. Including these so-called heroes. It didn’t stop her from blowing them skyhigh, of course, but she still believed them. Between all the exciting ideas, the small girl wasn’t quite sure what to pursue first. The mention of Baccer was met with more awkward fidgeting. “Baccer...? Um, sure, but... I don’t know where he went... Is like he just vanished.” A lot of her friends had been doing that lately. She pondered idly, muttering out loud. “I wonder if Nal and Alaka would wanna team up... Hm hm...” Team Majin would definitely win any fight! After a moment of pondering, the short Majin suddenly nodded decisively. “Okay! I’m gonna find these comic thingies! And win that tournament! Then learn how to read! And then teach all my friends!” Good plans, great plans~! Flashing a bright grin, she jumped at the demon woman, arms spread wide. She wanted to wrap the helpful adult into a big, warm hug! “Thanks so much, Miss T! You’re the coolest!” When she grew up, she wanted to be just like the most awesome adult she knew! “I insist I go along with you, Zam-chan. In case you need help storing them in a DynoCapsule.” Clove assured the majin.
It seemed there was still some bewilderment involving heroes, self proclaimed ones anyway, since nothing like it existed in the western lands. A hero followed a sense of honor bound disposition, while the fiefdom were bound by honor, it varied among the Pig Demon Duchies. The laws were set by the ruler of the territory and upheld justice that sometimes led to death. A real hero was forgiving in comparison to the western land society which was not sanctioned by the world government due to their ruthless ancient culture.
“Nal and Alaka?” The demoness tilted her fiery redhead, “Are those your demon friends?”
Suddenly Zam was excited for the future, enough to bounce, and embrace her into a hug. A cold sweat formed on her temple, while it was typical for earthlings to hug their friends, she was still a Princess and the social etiquette was vastly different from the rest of the world. However, as a descendant of Oolong she had the choice to permit such actions, and offered a light tap on the majin’s back as a sign of encouragement.
“I am glad you’re happy but you should ask people if they want to be hugged first, Zam-chan. It’s quite alright if you choose to hug me since we have so many memories together.” [238] [1,741]

Affectionate as usual, Zam nuzzled her cheek against her friend. In her opinion, Miss T was super huggable even if she wasn’t a Majin. “Yup yup! They are Majins, just like me!” Some would consider multiple Majins gathering together a cause for alarm... Unwittingly, the demon woman had opened the floodgates to barely coherent babbling. “Nal is super smart and Alaka knows how to ride metal carts and we made a city together and and...” She was so incredibly happy with all the good things that had been happening lately. One would have better luck with teaching a bear to ride a unicycle than trying to educate an excited Majin on social etiquette. Still, the Princess made a valiant effort to keep things prim and proper. Her efforts were rewarded, as the pink girl released her tight squeeze. The comment was met with an innocent and puzzled stare. “Why?” A question so simple, yet also so complicated at the same time. The curious creature had a knack for asking those. Having learned absolutely nothing about personal space, the rubbery girl stretched her arm and tried to grab the tall demoness by the hand. “Come, come! We gotta find the comic things!” However, her pull, albeit insistent, was still very gentle. At the very least, she had learned to control the crazy amount of power that dwelled within her. Er, sort of? Not really consciously? Rather, she instinctively reigned herself in around friends and their stuff, not wanting to break anything. Or anyone. Progress~! “I see.” Clove nodded as Zam explained who her friends were, at no point did she make the distinction that they were different from the ones who could not read, but if they were majins there was a fifty percent chance they did read. When asked why Zam was not allowed to hug people, the Tea Princess chuckled demurely, and said simply. “ You realize you’re not in the southern lands right? People in the Western Lands have a different cultural social etiquette. We do not hug without getting permission first. That is all. It’s just like tasting sweet treats at the restaurant, savoring the flavor before eating it, people around here appreciate the company of others without physical contact.”A minute later she was carted off, without any footwear, since she left it in the foyer of the pagoda, and were on their way to the bookstore. Clove was still able to utilize the sky dance art, so even without footwear she never had to touch the ground, and in her demon visage no one would expect her to wear any. Once again, demons were feared in the city streets, and soon enough the pair found their location with Clove directing Zam where to go as she led the way. Upon arrival, the main entrance was a music store, but an escalator to the second floor was dedicated to books, along with two more levels of written text. Of course the pair of demoness’ did not have to walk in but fly in towards the highest floor where the comic books were. They were met with a cardboard life size cutout of Brussuls the Muscles, a massive banner of Emperor Pilaf Gang hanging from the ceiling that was triple in size, as well as another banner across from it with Grand Duke Oolong and the iconic Tea Clan symbol that Clove was wearing in the pattern of her designer kimono. Next to that was several cat's wearing western land clothing collectible posters which represented the White Cat Clan. “Do any of these four attract your attention, Zam-chan?”[345]

When Clove explained the nuances of local social etiquette, Zam offered her undivided attention in return. She stared up at the tall demoness with those big, bright eyes. They were twinkling with wonder. Or rather... The lights were on, but nobody was home. Her mouth opened and a single sound slipped out. “Ah?” If the puzzled noise wasn’t enough, a small wisp of steam rose from her head. It twisted into the shape of a question mark before fading away. Nope, she didn’t get it at all. Excitedly, the chaotic creature dragged her friend towards adventure. ...And a bookstore. Having a guide saved her from getting hopelessly lost within seconds of entering the busy city. No one else would have helped her here. Such vibes did the cold glances of the passing civilians give... Not fond of demons, no... Luckily, ignorance was bliss. Zam flew into the brightly lit store and followed Clove’s lead to the highest floor. The colorful covers of numerous comic books caught her eye immediately. Light and dark, heroes and villains, main stories and spin-offs... Something for every kind of reader. Flanked by pretty posters, they competed for people’s attention. In fact, there was so much to see that it was making her head spin a little... Until the question snapped the excited girl out of it. She floated over to the posters and gave each one a scrutinizing look, complete with a contemplative hum. “Hm hm...” Hardly a moment later, her expression brightened and she aimed a point at the middle poster. “Ooh, I like the white kitty! He gives me good vibes!” She may not have known how to read, but she was a self-taught expert on tingles, vibes and moods. “Also, he looks kinda familiar...” Like she had seen him somewhere... On TV maybe? Turning to the tall demoness, the curious child voiced a question in return. “Are there any comic thingies about Majins or Demons?” Naturally she would want to read stories about her own kind. But finding the kind of happy, fun stories she expected might be... tricky. Words: 347 | 2520 Natural PL at start: 46,011 Tags: Clove
