Mentors and Disciples
In the world of Dragon Ball, many of the strongest warriors did not achieve monumental power and skill on their own. Gohan had Piccolo and eventually he learned how to dodge. Krillin, Goku, and Yamcha learned the Kamehameha as well as the Turtle Style from Master Roshi. Having a mentor to help you on your journey can lead to exponential growth, and teaching techniques to others can allow you to understand them in ways you never would have imagined possible.
To this end, there is the Mentor and Disciple System. This System represents a relationship between player characters. There are strict requirements for forming this relationship, but it confers powerful benefits to those that partake.
Becoming a Mentor implies a basic level of competency and skill in a chosen fighting style. To qualify to become a Mentor, a player character must meet the following requirements;
- You must possess a Natural Power Level of 10,000
- You must have Level 5 Masteries in both Potential and Focus
- You must have purchased Class Level 1
At this point, a player character may become a Mentor and take a Disciple.
Becoming a Disciple is not nearly as intensive, as you are, in fiction, a student with less experience and skill than your potential Mentor. The only requirement for becoming someone's Disciple is that at the time you form that bond, the Disciple's Natural PL may not exceed 75% of the Mentor's Natural PL.
A Mentor may have a number of concurrent Disciples equal to their Class Level.
There are a few restrictions on remaining a Disciple. To gain the mechanical benefits of the Mentor/Disciple relationship, they Disciple may not possess a Class Level greater than that of their Mentor. They may also not have a higher Natural PL than their Mentor.
To actually form the bond of Mentor and Disciple, the two player characters in question must have participated in at least two threads together, and the two threads must have had a total cumulative word count by THOSE TWO CHARACTERS of at least 5,000 words.
When these parameters are met, the characters may become Mentor and Disciple. To do so, please submit the following form in the Grading Station for approval;

A member of Staff will review your requests, and if everything checks out, you will be approved as Mentor and Disciple.
Once you are Mentor and Disciple, you enjoy the following benefits;
- If you RP learning them in a thread together (either a Spar, Mission or Personal Saga), you each gain access to one of the other character's Special Techniques. This does not take up a Technique Slot. (Still requires a learn time)
- You gain the ability to be involved in two spars with the same time. You may only be involved in this additional spar with characters that you share a Disciple/Mentor relationship with. This does not alter your normal thread slot total.
- When participating in threads together, the Disciple gains an additional 20% of their Master's Natural PL as a bonus. The total amount of this PL may not exceed 50% of the Disciple's Natural PL.
Example- Goku is Roshi's Disciple. Roshi has 1,000 PL, Goku has 100 PL. They complete a thread together. Goku could receive up to an additional 200 PL as a bonus; however, that exceeds 50% of his own natural PL, therefore he only gains 50 PL as a bonus reward.
Both of these bonuses increase by 5% for every thread that the characters complete together. The rewards cap at 50% of the Master's Natural PL, and 80% of the Disciple's Natural PL. - When threading together, the Disciple gains +1 MP when completing a thread with their Mentor.
- When threading together, the Mentor gains an additional 10% of their own PL as a reward. The total amount of this PL may not exceed 50% of their Disciple's PL.
Both of these bonuses increase by 5% for every thread that the characters complete together. The rewards cap at 30% of the Master's Natural PL and 80% of the Disciple's Natural PL.
[li]When threading together, the Mentor gains +2 MP when completing a thread with their Disciple.[/li]
[li]Mentors and Disciples may use each of the Teamwork techniques as an at-will action, once per thread for each of the techniques.[/li]
[li]To maintain the master/disciple relationship, you must have at least one thread together where each write a minimum of 1,000 words every two months.[/li][/ul]
A character cannot be a Mentor and a Disciple at the same time.
Disciples do not stay Disciples forever. Eventually, they graduate. Once a Disciple graduates, both they and the Mentor gain the following benefits;
- You keep the Special Tech that you learned from your partner. Please submit a learn time thread request.
- Both characters receive a +10,000 EP and +5,000 PL
To qualify for graduation, a Disciple must meet the following requirements;
- Class Level equal to that of their Mentor.
- You must have completed at least 5 threads with your Mentor that had a cumulative word count of at least 10,000 words.
- You must write a "Graduation Thread" that has a cumulative word count of at least 5,000 word. This may be any type of thread.
If you have any questions about how the system works, please ask Staff and we will assist you!
