With the disappearances of Marjhan, Romanus, and Lottus, Zukkah found himself alone and wondering what his true purpose was. He sat on the barstool inside The Rooster Gambling Hall and watched the television that was held in place against the upper part of the wall. As the saiyan warrior slowly drank his brew, he began to think of what else he could do in a world so big. The big question that haunted the saiyan was how could a friend like Romanus and Lottus just up and leave him? That was a question that Zukkah wanted an answer to, but that would be for another time.
The saiyan continued to drink from the bottle, while watching the television. It seemed that the bartender kept on some sort of betting channel, so that the bookies would come in and try to make some money on the sports around the world. The bar itself had two Male humans and one female human enjoying their drinks and watching the TV as well, but they talked amongst themselves just loud enough that Zukkah was able to understand them. "Did you hear about that Romanus guy? I heard he killed a descendant to that Oolong fellow that everyone around here cherishes." He announced to the female, while continuing to stare at the television.
The brown haired woman kept her hair up in a bun, but she turned to the man as he announced the news of Romanus to her. Zukkah was now intrigued, so he leaned up against the bar and kept his attention on the group without making it obvious. "Actually, I heard that he ran off scared because there was a rumor that the duchess was out for him and his friends heads!" She replied to him in a discreet manner. With the information Zukkah was receiving from just a short distance away, he knew that he had to do something about this Duchess woman.
Whether or not Zukkah was welcome within the bar itself, he decided to just relax and continue to have a good time. The barbaric saiyan waved down the bartender and smirked. "Another round, my friend. Keep them coming too." He announced to the bartender, before slamming down the empty bottle of booze against the table. It was odd because Zukkah could sense Rom nearby, but the power was fading away. Either he was fleeing from the location, or he was finally dealt with by the duchess and her crew.

Melody returned to her permanent residence after Portobello reported that Will O’ Wisp and Riku had made their departure, she longed to rest, and after changing into a new deep purple kimono she ended up sleeping from dawn until dusk. While she would have slept even longer the chittering spirit that she was cursed with woke her up after it kept whispering things in her ear. With an annoyed expression she rolled out of bed and walked in the living room where Portobello stood by greeting her with a bow; he was a witch that communed with the spirits and was always ready for her ahead of time by foretelling the future using bone runes. While the teenage boy was tactful in his approach by being the best in assisting the green haired duchess she had long ceased being surprised by his antics. As she ran her fingers through her hair she looked at the floating orb once more and turned over to look at her devoted assistant.
“I could not sleep a wink without this curse constantly whispering in my ear with incentives. I understand it is the price to pay for meddling with the other worldly but I am having trouble keeping a single thought in order to relax. Is it even possible to have twenty fours to myself?” Melody sighed as she felt rather desperate to get rid of it for good the time she spent listening to it seemed rather permanent and would take some time getting used to.
“Of course, my lady. I will borrow it from you and give you the chance at relief but after seventy two hours it will leave my side and find you.” Portebello simply answered, he raised the veil that covered his entire face, revealing sclera eyes with a deep gold hue for irises, apart from the strange eye color he had deep dark circles that made him look quite haunted. The orb left her side and imprinted on him allowing her the chance to take a break from it.
The Duchess had taken advantage of his witchcraft, she felt guilty about it, and had she known the curse would invoke a spirit from beyond she would have denied it but fame and glory had a price. After the fight of a lifetime she was near giving up the hope to accomplish her goals and retreat home to Truffle Village. Fortune had been at her side after winning first place with the ice sculpture winter even in the city and for the first time the greed for zeni had been subdued. The lack of motivations had diminished her ambitions to nothing and she felt little emotion for moving on to greater things. Rather than say anything further, she walked over to the entrance to put on her okobo sandals, and took an umbrella calling upon the elevator to leave.
Outside the streets were wet from recent snow flurries, the chill of the air remained, and the snow began to fall again collecting on the rooftops. Melody opened her umbrella and began her descent from the Duchies residence towers towards the heart of the city. Without a thought she ended up at The Rooster gambling hall and she shook her head turning to leave but felt compelled to enter. Inside the hall was hardly empty, gamblers were persistent, and there were only three people at the bar inviting her in since it was not crowded; closing her umbrella she left it by the door. The bar keep recognized her as well as the couple with a slight bow of their heads and a pause from everyone in the room until she reached a bar stool to take a seat next to Zukkah. Without her spirit she would have known this particular saiyan with a tail was once someone she was looking for because then she could find Romanus and revive her motivations by reclaiming her glory on behalf of the Duchies. The bartender served her hot sake in silence recalling her preferences on his own.
After an hour of drinking the couple at the bar left and Melody was warming up to the atmosphere of the gambling hall. Her violet colored eyes looked over to Zukkah and parted her lips to speak but stopped to recall something but then decided to converse with this strange saiyan.
“Why do some Saiyans have tails and others do not? Do full blooded Saiyans tend to keep their tails? Is that right?” Lifting the sleeve of her deep purple kimono she yawned briefly seemingly bored despite having an interest in questioning him blatantly.

Zukkah continued to mind his own business, chugging down bottle after bottle of the Rooster gambling hall's best brew. The saiyan was merely feeling a buzz and knew that it would take a lot more until he was feeling exactly how he wanted. With the sound of music echoing throughout the entire hall, Zukkah turned his attention to one of the many different gambling stands within the building. He watched a few players testing their luck at some sort of card game, while slowly drinking the alcoholic beverage given to him by the bartender.
The saiyan wanted to try his luck with some gambling and see if he can leave this place with some extra Zeni in his pocket. Just before he could move, a woman from his left caught his attention. She was closing her umbrella and placing it next to the door. There was snow upon the umbrella, giving away that it had been snowing outside the Rooster's Gambling Hall. This didn't bother the saiyan one bit because he had his fair share of training in the elements, causing his saiyan blood to get used to the cold or heat of Earth.
With his attention back upon the card table, he was eyeing down every single move that the dealer would make. It was almost as if each of the tables were set up so that the players would lose. Zukkah pulled the bottle back to his lips and swallowed the cold liquid, before turning back to the bar and looking up toward the television. His tail began to sway back and forth, as he sat there with the brew in one hand and his eyes upon the TV. Zukk used his free hand to reach within his attire to grab out a foreign pack of smokes. The warrior pulled one out and lit it with the tip of his finger. He used the purple ki from his finger to light the smoke, but he quickly made it vanish because of others around, who might take it as a threat.
With the two leaving the bar and heading out, Zukkah was still smoking the imported cigarettes and enjoying his brew. With a short amount of time passing by, the woman with the purple kimono on asked the saiyan a question. He took a quick drag of the cigarette, which was giving off a light green color of smoke, then looked over to the woman revealing the eye patch. His lonely eye looked over the attractive woman and grinned a bit. "Seems you've done your homework, kid." He announced, as his tail trailed back and forth slowly. "Our tails are a strength and weakness. With a full moon it gives us great power, but the tail itself is very sensitive. It can be severed or neutralized in many different ways. Some saiyans get them removed as babies and others have lost them in battle. So it really depends on the saiyan." He replied to the woman, then picked the bottle up and chugged the rest down, before slamming it back to the bar.
With the conversation just starting, Zukkah was already beginning to feel intoxicated, but he was still able to function perfectly. The bartender managed to walk over and replace Zukkah's empty brew with a fresh one, while doing the same for Melody. With another drag from the cigarette, the saiyan looked over to the woman once more and officially introduced himself. "By the way, the name is Zukkah." He put the smoke upon his lips and reached over with his free hand to shake hands with the newly introduced duo.

“Duchess Melody of Truffle village. Pleasure to meet you, Zukkah. I may not not look my age but I am not a kid so do not call me such.” She took his hand and gripped it firmly for a second until she slid her fingers across his palm gently to scoop her sake cup to drink from it calmly. While he may have been at the bar before her arrival, despite being human, she surpassed everyone within miles in absolute strength, and as a result she would not be rendered drunk even if she drank the entire night away.
“Is that how you lost your eye? Protecting your tail in exchange for your sight in a fight?” Melody mused, “I suppose if it’s a source of strength it is worth saving. I trained with a blindfold so it’s not necessary to see, part of being a blade master or martial artist is to adapt to any environment with every inch of your body by relying on your other senses, which are only enhanced by suppressing the others.”
After she finished her drink, she was hoping she did not have to get back into fulfilling her duties, but being perceptive is what allowed her to succeed in life. “So, there is a bounty on your head, Zukkah. Mind answering a few questions?” Violet eyes scanned him over, she even took a moment to look at his tail motion about, there was no chance at escape, “Were you involved with the murders Romanus and Marjhan committed? What benefit is there behind being a common street thug saiyan? I understand that being able to drink, smoke, and whore is every man’s dream but there more to accomplish than be limited to such habits. You chose a different path than me. I can guarantee that, fortune, fame, glory are favorable in life so it’s not too late to change.”
The barkeep warmed up another porcelain sake bottle, filling her cup, and walked away to give them privacy in their conversation as he had not been listening. It was clear that she was not here to restrain him right away, she was enjoying her drinks, and was fully relaxed. Above all else, she claimed to be a blade master, but she was not armed so he had time to enjoy his evening alongside of the Duchess.

With the woman revealing who she truly was, the saiyan slowly turned his head to face Melody with a straight face. Before he would respond, Zukkah would make sure to get a good look at who was after him and his fellow comrades, just in case if things were to escalate within the gambling hall. He was shocked to be in the presence of the duchess herself, causing him to become speechless until Zukk felt the woman grip his hand, squeezing just for a short moment. "Damn, woman! What is wrong with you?" Escaped his lips, as he felt the pulsating pain in his hand from Melody squeezing it.
"To answer your question, my name is Zukkah, but I am afraid that you already know this." He responded, before taking another long drag of the cigarette. Zukkah was unsure how to react to the information given to him, along with the fact that this woman was much stronger than him and he had no way to escape from the duchess. The saiyan took a nice long drink from the bottle of ale, then placed it upon the bar gently. "A bounty, huh? So it seems that someone has been watching us. If this is true, where is Romanus and Marjhan?" He announced to Melody, aware that he was bound to be taken away.
There was much that Melody did not know about the saiyan, which is why Zukkah let her finish speaking. "I was involved with them, that is not a lie. As for being some street thug? There is much more to it than you think." He paused to grab his brew and finish it up, before placing it back upon the bar and looking over to the woman. "You have come across my kind before. You know we live to fight, whether it is for good or evil. I myself don't know any better. This is what I grew up knowing and.." The saiyan paused once again. His lonely eye glanced down, then back up to Melody's face. "Well, yes. That is how I lost my sight, but I don't wish to speak about it right now." He added.
As the bartender returned back to them and replenish their drinks, Zukk gave the man a slight nod, before grabbing the fresh bottle and popping the cap off, then taking a long swig, and looking back to the woman. "So, what made you come here and not one of your loyal henchmen? You could wipe out this entire place with the flick of your wrist, so why come here to confront a mere pawn?" Zukkah kept the bottle in his hand while taking small sips every now and then, but the saiyan's attention was placed on Melody just in case of any sudden movements. Not like he would be fast enough to defend himself, but he had to be prepared for the worst, even if Melody meant well.

“I planned the next seventy two hours to be a personal break from my duties, I did not expect to find you here without the cursed spirit that has been following me around, ever since I was forced to involve myself in witch craft to learn about you. In the end I was more concerned for Ma-Te who was murdered by Romanus. Your saiyan friend, he was...so young, and it’s painful to imagine that a twenty year old who was merely a teen last year would gain any benefit for slaying a pig...I mean, it is called Oolong city, Grand Duke Oolong is a pig beastman, which means all swine in sin city is off limits.” Melody drank down her sake and casually refilled it to drink a second shot, while she spoke she was telling the truth, especially with her choice of words which were strictly in ear shot. “I am not sure where they are, it is out of my hands since the last time I spoke to Romanus was in the back alley of this very hall, he tried to blow this whole place up until a samurai caught the blast he fired then went chasing after him a couple of nights ago, and I fought against a turtle school master seconds after, who I thought was my friend, until he betrayed me by listening to my conversation then threatening me. Not a wise cat to double cross me like that.”
It seemed the Duchess was still irritated by the whole incident as she continued drinking with a flushed face. “I was giving Romanus a chance to escape but he refused. I warned him of the consequences if he ignored me and now he is gone. I know that the thug life is more than just breaking the law— it’s survival. I also faced adversity before I became a Duke’s vassal and trained to be a blade master. Now I am a wealthy Duchess and yes I have vassals of my own; they serve me well. My strength is needed in protecting the western lands from the namekian invasions and the monsters from baba yagas domain so that thugs like you can do whatever they want! Sounds like a fair trade off, right? You should think about your options a little bit longer. If I turn you in, perhaps the law will be lenient by removing you from the luxuries Oolong City offers, and keep you in a cell to reflect. What kind of life are you truly living now that your friends are gone? A chance to start over and using your strength to help people like yourself who need guidance.”
Melody stood up from her seat and pulled out a paper fan to fan herself from the smoke as she was beginning to get tipsy. “I am not in the mood to lecture a grown man. Do you want to play a round of Onitama? We can hit up the vip room.”

Zukkah was a bit confused to what he was hearing from the duchess, but it seemed that he had seventy two hours of freedom left because of Melody dismissing her own duties for that amount of time. It was pure luck that the woman and saiyan met at the Gambling Rooster Hall and that all seemed a bit odd. "My lady, I was not directly involved with Romanus and his killing of the swine within the city limits. My intentions were upon the Cook’s Gang and nothing else. There was a meeting between the three of us and it seemed that the plan fell through when Romanus, Marjhan, and myself went on our little spree." He responded, but watched as the Duchess fill her drink again and sip it down. When she spoke up about the whole situation with Romanus and when she last saw him, Zukkah let a slight chuckle escape his lips. "Poor bastard is always getting himself in trouble." He responded, before finishing up yet another bottle of brew.
Melody had mentioned a spirit before and now she had said something about her becoming a Duke’s Vassal. The saiyan cocked his head in confusion, then placed the bottle back to the bar while keeping his attention upon the Duchess. "What are you? You’re obviously a human, but what is within you?" He paused for a moment, before responding to the rest of what Melody had said. "Maybe my purpose was to learn this lesson from you, then apply it to my training in the future. Killing defenseless beings was never my kind of thing, anyway. As for being placed in prison, I don’t think that will happen, m’lady. " He responded respectfully, before grabbing the new bottle of brew that the bartender placed on the bar for him.
As the saiyan popped the cap off from the bottle, Melody stood up and pulled a fan out to fan herself from the smokey room. When she asked if he wanted to play Onitama, he gave her yet another confused look. "Oniwhattaa? I am not sure what that is, but I will give it a try." He responded to the woman. Zukkah was unsure where the VIP room was, but he stood from the chair and followed the woman to a room toward the back of the building. Once inside, there were only a few people inside, but it seemed that they were dressed to impress. Zukkah on the other hand was wearing the same barbaric type of outfit he had always possessed. Either way, he waited for the Duchess to settle in, so that he would do the same.

“I am just a human, not meant to have a long life time, and thus have to spend my time wisely. I have seen the world, amassed my fortune, and became rather attached to certain people. I once had the ambition to become a Grand Duchess of Oolong City but people consider that treason. However, you are responsible for your own destiny and I am glad Romanus took out that pig which means I didn’t have to marry into the Tea Clan to achieve my goals. After our time is well spent, you can plead your case to the Tea family, it is the least I can do for failing at my duties. I suppose I could also offer you a chance at freedom but you did not kill Ma-te. Remaining positive is a good thing if you think you’re not getting a prison sentence. Hopefully your kill count is only of the devil’s cooks since you admitted not going after innocents.”
In the VIP room, they were placed in a quiet U-shaped booth with stone grid table at the center, the martial artists pieces were in place, with wooden plaques for each martial arts style. Melody explained the rules of the game in great detail before they began, in between playing silently, servers were bringing more alcohol of their choice. Despite being human, she was unaffected by alcohol due to her body conditioning, and it would take at least two casks of sake to make her entirely drunk but she was still warm on the face due to the rose of her cheeks.
“So did you grow up with all the saiyans in the city? All of them seem to take on the roles of being yakuza for over four hundred years. I met another saiyan by the name of Cayle in the southern islands, he also had his tail, and he claims to have been brought to earth. Sounds more to me like he got hit in the head rather hard for him to believe he is an alien, when saiyans have always existed, and there are plenty of earthlings who are different species. Personally, I don’t care for history, people tend to lie, and I cannot afford to waste my time on stories that have nothing to do with me. However, I will listen to yours, since it seems you don’t have any friends...either.”
The last statement made her frown, her violet colored eyes were cast down, she seemed like she was defeated as she moved her sensei piece and won the game for a third time.
“You’re not good at this game, this is the equivalent to fighting in real life, you have to anticipate my next move when we exchange the wooden plaques of martial arts styles, and we can keep playing all night until you win… maybe?” She smiled weakly, seemingly enjoying the game they were playing, and was distracted enough from the hidden turmoil she was suffering from.

As the two sat down in the U shaped booth and Melody explained the rules of Onitama to Zukkah, he examined the wooden pieces and smirked a bit. It reminded him of his childhood, when his mother would pull out the old board games for them to play during the week nights. The thought of his parents caused him to shake his head a bit, but he listened to every word the duchess had spoke to him. "Sounds easy enough." He responded to the woman, as she finished up explaining the rules to him.
Once Melody asked if he had grown up in the city with the other saiyans, Zukk’s eyes met with Melody’s, then he slowly shook his head. "I was born on a large island not too far from here, but I was raised by a clan of saiyan bandits, always resorting to the lowest of lows. It seems that I have a lot to learn and not much time to do so.." The saiyan looked down to the pieces once more, then put his hand to his chin, thinking of what to do.
With the waiters walking around with drinks upon a silver plate, the saiyan nodded to the man and grabbed a drink from the tray. Zukk sipped from the glass, as he was now feeling a bit more buzzed than he had thought. He looked down to the board and noticed it wasn’t standing still, his vision blurry and nose numb. "Maybe if I wasn’t drunk!" He called out in anger, then grabbed his wooden piece and moved it diagonally, hoping to strategize his way to victory.
Zukkah had given his story to her, at least some of it, but he was curious to what was bothering the woman. He seen signs of loneliness and depression and it seemed that Melody was suffering from both pretty bad. Either way, Zukkah was rather drunk and knew that he was about to spend the rest of his life in prison, so why not go out with a bang? "Have you ever had the pleasure of fucking a saiyan? I've got less than seventy two hours.." He wondered, as he drank from the glass and waited for Melody to take her turn in the Onitama game. After placing the drink down upon the U shaped table, Zukk pulled the smokes back out and lit one with the tip of his finger once more

“There is a growing pirate problem in the southern islands. It’s not fun spending your vacation there with them around.” Melody added as she finished her sake and blushed at what Zukkah dared to say in his admitted drunken state. As much as she did not want to divulge anymore of herself to him, there was no one around for her to tell, and being able to express her thoughts on the matter only convinced her further of what she believed in.
“I know Saiyans are difficult to sate in sexual appetite but that’s not from my personal point of view. I believe the problem with Saiyans being so wild is because without love there is no reason to mate for life. One of my vassals is a half saiyan, he spends my fortune in the red light district, and he just might be over there now after I took his credit card then gave him zeni bills after he insulted my pride. Honor means everything to me and I am not going to involve myself just on a whim. My body is sacred and I have a legacy to uphold.” Melody won the game again and she chuckled then held a melancholy expression, “I grew up without parents and I was raised by a grandfather I do not remember the name of. I want to be remembered by my family when the time comes.”
The game board was reset and Melody stole the cigarette right out of Zukkah’s mouth. She was not a smoker but she did grow tobacco to supplement her income, she immediately discovered that it was a low grade tobacco he had possessed, as far as she could tell, so she crumbled it in her hand immediately after with a scowl. “You have not enjoyed finer tobacco in your life. Do you really care for this cheap stuff? Try these, Truffle Village, only produces high quality crops. Including our tobacco fields.” She handed Zukkah a silver metal case with a mushroom engraved seal on the outside, and the inside held an assortment of tobacco products. “I carry these for future investors of my fields. You can keep it. That way you have something to look forward to when you do get out of your prison sentence.”
With a wave of her hand she stopped the servers from bringing anymore alcohol, the saiyan would be rendered unconscious at this rate, and she was not going to carry him to the Grand Duke’s castle over a thirty meter plateau. “I tell you what, if you win the next round, we can visit the red light district, so you can do as you please. I have to return back to my permanent residence first to change my clothes because I cannot be seen in public in that part of the city. Hell, I hated having to go there to retrieve my scoundrel of a vassal after he failed to report the emergency meeting he took part in on my behalf.” Melody sighed as she looked up at him with intense violet eyes, “Best of luck.”
The game began again, this time Zukkah needed to sober up long enough to get what he wished for, and it was not just a nightly escapade on the line there was also the chance at discovering his own self worth.

The moment Melody mentioned the word honor, Zukkah turned away with the smoke still in his mouth, thinking of what the hell he had done. Was is for fame, pleasure, or just to look good in front of the others? Either way, it seemed that the duchess was speaking truth to the saiyan and it was beginning to make him actually think about his future for the very first time. "What have I got myself into? Relying on others is where I failed and that will not happen again." He thought to himself, before taking a long drag from the cigarette and turning to face the woman once more.
"I won’t allow myself to stoop so low again. We all made mistakes in our past, i think it is time that I make up for what I have done. I know killing is not something I can just walk away free from, so I expect some time in prison. Whether I am in there a long time or not, I will prove that I am capable of change." He replied, while shaking his head because of his loss in the Onitama game. Zukkah rearranged the pieces on his side, getting ready for the next game.
Zukkah watched with his careful eye as Melody waved off the waiters from bringing them anymore alcohol, which he understood why. The saiyan was basically wasted, but still capable of malfunctioning for the most part. With the woman making him a deal, the saiyan smirked wide, rubbing his hands together slowly, while looking across from him into the violet eyes of the duchess. "Hmph, deal! I must say that I thought I was going to try and make a run for it, but it turns out that you’re not half bad." Zukk grinned, moving the far right piece just a space ahead. The saiyan put out the cigarette and glanced up with his coal eyes, watching the expression upon Melody’s face as she prepared her move.

“I believe you. After your sentencing by the Grand Dukes, followed by your freedom from prison, you are more than welcome to join me in Truffle Village and be appointed as a vassal perhaps be trained as a samurai. It would suit you. A samurai among the Duchies is an honorable role...It is too bad we did not meet under better circumstances.”
The game was almost won by Zukkah but his last move made him lose, she wondered if he did it on purpose, and that made her smile. At first, she thought all men were the same, even a prison sentence was not enough for the black tailed saiyan to divulge further into the sin of the city in the red light district.
“Well then, how about we go out for dinner? There is a late night izakaya around the street corner that has a five star rating on the Wolfgang motorcycle travel guide. I do not typically dine out and it’s been...ten years since I last ate at an Oolong City restaurant. With 72 hours left we can enjoy at least nine from the guide.”
It was not optional for Zukkah to decline, she was going to follow him around until the spirit returned to her side, and so they left the gambling hall together. There was a light snowfall outside and Melody opened up her umbrella to walk down the road ahead of him in the direction of the restaurant. Melody stopped at the corner to turn around with a tilt of her head to look behind her, jade green strands of hair shifted past her shoulders, and she smiled at him again. Everything about the Duchess was regal, the deception behind the way she carried herself was that she was unhappy, and it was obvious that something was missing from her smiling expression.
The next 72 hours were spent exactly as she foretold, eating at nine different restaurants for every meal time, and then walking the thousand steps to the top of the plateau of the Grand Duke’s castles. It was nightfall around the same time when they first met at the bar, a squad of royal soldiers surrounded Zukkah, and she handed their squad captain a sealed letter that she clearly instructed to be handed over for the Saiyan’s trial. The contents of the letter explained that Zukkah cooperated in the citizen arrest, showed remorse for the death of Ma-Te, and that he confessed regretting his life as a thug with the deep desire to change.
With a wave of her hand, Melody left Zukkah at the hands of the royal soldiers who immediately tied him up, and escorted him inside the grand castle through a guard tower. The winding stone steps descended underground to a jail cell where he would spend the rest of the night until he was summoned.
