The stone cavern shook as Barlei slammed into the wall behind him. It crumpled like paper beneath the force of his propelled body, tossing out a small plume of debris-like smoke that wafted up through the hole in the ceiling.
Silence filled the room as the giantess regarded her foe, her powerful fist still extended from where it struck the powerful blow. As the smoke filtered out, Barlei was entrenched into the wall itself, a pained grimace on his face. He coughed and spat a gob of blood, peering over at the woman through heavy-lidded eyes. He was barely swimming above unconsciousness.
It was clear he was in no condition to fight.
One of the yukata clad twins, the more human looking one, glanced at Coriander. "Will you permit this fight to happen?"
She watched the fight impassively, arms folded neatly before her. "If he is to be Fang of the Starving Wolves, he will need to be able to hold his own."
"Jona will slay him before he ever gets the chance."
Her cool expression did not waver. "...I have faith in his abilities."
Jona launched herself forward, slamming fist after fist against Barlei's crossed forearms. She pummeled him with relentless fervor, unwilling to give him even a second to recover.
Each punishing blow drove him deeper and deeper into the wall behind him, until his form could scarcely be seen by the others. Only Jona's relentless fists pounding him into oblivion. She let out a battle roar, clasping her fingers together before slamming a powerful double fist into the hole—the final nail in the coffin.
The room trembled and shook from the concussive force of the blow. The subsequent silence was heavy, punctuated with the sounds of fallen dirt, shaken from the ceiling above them.
They stared at the hole. Nothing happened. Perhaps he truly WAS too weak to lead them.
Jona hopped back up onto the platform, the thick muscles in her neck popping as she cracked it. She stood with folded arms, glaring into the hole in the wall. The others observed in silence as well.
A deep rumbling filled the cavern. It shook the walls, fiercer tremors than before, as the Starving Wolves glanced about in surprise.
"What's that sound?" asked the demon-looking twin.
"Some kinda earthquake?" asked Yulong, the cyborg cowboy.
Coriander stared impassively at the hole. She could sense the growing power blossoming from within—far greater than she could have anticipated before. For the first time, her stony facade crumbled as a look of stunned surprise crossed her features.
"J-Jona!" She yelled.
"Hrm?" The giantess glanced over, a puzzled look upon her scarred profile. "What is it—?"
Her words were short by the bandaged hand clamping over her mouth. Her eyes widened, large hands gripping the Saiyan's arm in a vain attempt to pry him away. His wild hair fell in black tangles, casting his eyes and the upper half of his face in deep shadows. A wild black aura, unlike any they'd ever witnessed before, stirred and crackled around him.
"You wanna know what I can do? You wanna know if I'm STRONG enough?" His voice was a tempered growl. "Alright, then. I'll SHOW ya."
Barlei tossed her into the air, pummeling her with a series of relentless punches and kicks. He ragdolled the giant brute of a woman, knocking her around.
She finally recovered from her shock, attempting to block one of his punches with a hastily thrown up guard.
Barlei smirked, ducking low to plow a piston-like straight jab straight at her muscled gut. It folded her over, sending spittle flying from between her lips.
Clasping his hands together in a similar fashion as Jona previously had, he slammed his double fist down against the crown of her head. She smashed against the upraised stone circle, the stone tiles cracking beneath the impact of her weight.
She didn't move again.
Silence filled the room. Barlei hovered in the air above them, his wild obsidian aura stirring around his form like an untamable beast.
His hard stare drifted between every member standing around the room.
"Lieutenant Barlei… is dead. A dead soldier for a dead king. I'm a nobody - same as you." He clenched his fist. "My world is long gone. All I had in this one tried to kill me. I'm TIRED of being SCREWED over."
His aura faded as he drifted to the ground. Jona was getting back to her feet; he stood beside her, extending a helping hand. After a lengthy stare down, she accepted the hand up and rose to her feet.
"How would you know, stranger?" The human-looking twin challenged, his tone cool but assertive. "You don't know anything about us... yet."
"Tch. I know enough just by looking at ya." Barlei cradled an arm to his injured ribs, wincing in pain. "You've got the look of a buncha outcasts. Trust me, I'd know—I spent a long time in the Southern Islands with a buncha Saiyans I'm supposed to treat like family. It... didn't work out that way."
Barlei winced, grunting in pain. He staggered back a step, his brow dripping with sweat. His breathing became haggard.
"Yanno... think I'll... pass out now..."
He collapsed to the ground. Only Coriander moved to his side to check on him. It wasn't out of any sense of loyalty—much like the others, it would take much more to earn their respect and devotion. But a Fang was a Fang; they would honor the group's long established code.
They might have been outcasts, but they still ascribed to the moral tenets of the Wolf School even as an unofficial affiliate of the main school.
"He's out. His injuries have been heavily re-aggravated."
A robotic scoff filled the air. Everyone glanced at Yulong who was spinning a six-shooter around his finger.
"I reckon... call me crazy, but things might get a lil' exciting 'round here."
