The 151st World Martial Arts Tournament was right around the corner. There was a buzz in the air, and combat fever swept South City as it prepared to play host to not only the prestigious tournament but to the hundreds of thousands of spectators flooding South City and the southern islands in anticipation of the world altering event.
One of the various attractions established to boost the camaraderie of the event was a giant carnival being hosted by a subsidiary of Pilaf Corp. Giant attractions and towering roller coasters filled the spacious boardwalk. It was packed to the gills with attendees; those sensitive to sensing ki would note the various high level patrons residing there.
The sun dipped below the distant horizon, casting the sky in deep rosy hues as twilight set in. This ushered in cooler temperatures, especially those stray winds that swept in off the South Sea. Gentle waters lapped at the wooden boardwalk. Classical cheery organ music, typical of any campy carnival setting, was piped in from hidden speakers.
The laughter of children filled the air as they weaved between the legs of the gathered crowd, chasing one another in inventive games. Most frequented the food stalls: the scent of sizzling meats such as hot dogs and turkey legs filled one's nostrils, accentuated with various hints of spicy and exotic foods from other parts of the continent.
In all of South City, this was the place to be. A bit of fun and relaxation before the greatest clash of champions would commence.
"Thank you! Thank you!" The woman cried, clinging tightly with both arms around Toshiro Motoyama's neck. "You saved my baby!"
A sobbing toddler clung to his mother's leg, clutching for dear life. He was soaked head to toe, dark hair matted to his head. As young children were prone to do, he ignored the protective wooden barrier surrounding the carnival to protect patrons and prevent any untimely plunges into the water. Apparently, he'd been chasing a seagull who'd snatched at his ice cream cone.
The woman's weight nearly tipped the slender teenager over. His eyes widened as he clutched at her arms in a vain attempt to loosen her grip. "I-It's nothing, lady. Honest." He hadn't hesitated to snatch the child out of the water the moment he fell in. "Anyone would've done it."
"Thank you!" The grateful mother gave him a final devastating squeeze before parting tearfully from him. In an instant, her demeanor changed as she snatched at the child's ear, dragging him away as she gave him an earful for running off on his own. "Oh, you're gonna get it, mister! Didn't I tell you—"
Shiro sighed as the lady disappeared into the milling crowds. As quickly as it had began, the ordeal was over. No one paid him any attention anymore. Shaking his head, he turned his back to the crowds to stare out at the glistening waters, leaning against the wooden barrier.
"That was... eventful." He frowned. "I can't even remember why I came to this place to begin with." It was too muggy and too crowded for his tastes. "At the same time, I guess it's a little exciting." He peered over his shoulder at the dense crowds behind him. "There are a lot of strong people here. Who knows what may happen?"
If he had it his way, he'd be avoiding anything too crazy.

Tiger Lily was excited that Pilaf Corp set up a temporary carnival fair in celebration of the World Martial Arts Tournament in South City which was directly across from Papaya Island. While she wanted to buy all the Pilaf Land specialty merchandise, Cayle held her back from going anywhere, explaining they needed to get their photo taken before she disappeared into the crowd. The teen was not entirely averse to snapping a picture with her boyfriend, it was near impossible to have any self control if it involved Pilaf, and stay still for a second. The full blooded saiyan had to squeeze her face with his hand, to keep her from shaking, and she did her best to grin as a drone took a picture. While it was daylight out, the flash still went off, and that was her cue to zip away.
The red headed teen weaved into the crowd of people, she eventually found herself in line, it was a queue for frozen lemonade and a special tournament souvenir cup. The lid was of Pilaf and friends standing over the WMAT stone arena. As she waited she noticed Toshiro in the crowd, she reached out and tugged the duo-colored haired teen, and grinned widely.
“Shiro! You survived the taco king boat after all! Hi.” Ty’s cheerful disposition was apparent in her expression, “Are you having fun at the carnival? My boyfriend Cayle and his childhood friend Konja are also here. Would you like to meet them?”

Konja quietly bit into a large puff of hot pink cotton candy in one hand as she wandered after Cayle and Ty in the chaos of the fair. It was sickly sweet as always. Since getting involved with the foods of this planet, she noticed that a lot of them had very intense flavour profiles, especially the commercially packaged ones. Chocolate bars were very sweet. Potato chips were very salty, in combination with whatever flavour that had been mixed in. "Seafood" flavour certainly had a distinctly fishy taste, but it was the last thing she expected anyone to put on potatoes of all things. Potatoes were supposed to taste like potatoes, after all. Even a little salt would do wonders to bring out its own starchy elements... But, such seemed to be the order of the day when it came to commercial food. Yes, it was ready to eat, but that seemed to be at the cost of any subtlety in taste. A big airy bag of potato chips was nothing compared to say, enjoying a small pile of stone baked yams under a starry night. Sure, some people might complain about how much faster it was, how much less time you would take, if you just bought some potato chips. However, in their rush to continue in modern day life, they would miss the simple joy of taking some time to relax while digging a small pit, nestling in some yams and leaves for cover, burying them in dirt, then setting some hot rocks on top. One might almost say it was a meditative, spiritual experience where one could offer a portion to the gods while looking up at the sacred darkness and the pinpricks of light within it. Yes... potato chips could never match stone baked yams. But, since she couldn't find any here, the cotton candy would have to do. And if the King was lenient enough to go to this fair so close to the tournament, then who was she to object? Konja didn't receive whatever instinctive wisdom Cayle did, so it was just simpler to follow in stride and trust in his ability to decide. The couple had a picture taken, before Ty disappeared into the crowd. Konja took another bite of the infernally sweet treat and its tastebud overwhelming sugar. "Well, her ki is still in range. Couldn't have gone far..." Not much was there to be said, given Cayle probably already thought that even before she could. But as a friend and subject, it was at least the courteous, dutiful thing to do. [430/430] SPL: 13977 Cayle Pota Ty Toshiro Motoyama

Cayle was not the typical Saiyan young man his age – not by modern standards or the ancient ones which he and the other Pickles typically had an affection for. The former peasant farm boy turned science experiment and prisoner turned leader of a group of refugees turned vice-president of a restaurant group? He was not the typical Saiyan. Perhaps it ran in his family, perhaps it did not. He wasn't even the typical young man for his age when it came to Earthlings, because while he had come to this festival with Konja and Tiger Lily, and snapped that picture to send back to Ty's parents and so that they had a way of memorizing the days they unwinded before the tournament itself. He wasn't just here with Ty and Konja. Nalta, or as most of the Kingdom of Ensalada called her now, Nalta Pota, the self-adopted sister of Cayle who Cayle had slowly begun to realize was actually one of his cousins; she was here as well. Along with her were many of the other Ensalada Saiyan youths, the group who many on Ensalada called 'Team Bean' because of their tendency to work together, live together, and act together; and because the majority of them had been found at the Tuffle Bunker underneath Pilaf Land. Nalta and Team Bean had all been working hard for the World Martial Arts Tournament, training hard under the guidance of Cayle and the other Saiyans which he could get to help train them – and this fair was as much as anything else a way for them to unwind. Cayle was confident in Nalta's ability within the Seventh division. The various members of Team Bean who felt confident to participate as well, in their own sections. But now it was time to lollygag, to have fun, to revel in the freedom that the Earthlings had when it came to preparing for battle. Now it was time to have carnival food. “Yeah, you're right, and even if so she can handle herself pretty readily. As can the youngsters.” [346] Cayle Pota Starting PL: 108,245 {"Nalta"} {"Team Bean"} Mung-Mimi, Garbonzo-Izzy, Pinto-Tai, Navy- Joe, Rajma-Sora, Split- Matt. Adzuki- Kairi Lima- TK

A tug on his shirt prompted him to turn around.
A teenage girl wearing a red knit cap accosted him with a vibrant smile. Her long, straight, vibrant orange hair swept past her shoulders. Cerulean eyes glimmered like an ocean. A beaming smile that lit up the night far more efficiently than all of the fancy carnival aesthetics combined. His memory data banks shuffled before his vision, bringing up a picture of her, along with a brief rundown of their previous interaction.
"Oh... hey. From the boat, right?"
What a lame response. He wasn't sure what else to say.
His eyebrows rose at the mention of her boyfriend. Boyfriend? Of course... he was such an idiot. Of course she had a boyfriend. Why wouldn't she? A personality like Tiger Lily's was magnetic, drawing other social butterflies and recluses alike. He'd been drawn her to despite not knowing her.
It was foolish of him to assume a cute girl like that would be single.
"Oh, um..." He rubbed his head, eyes cast downward. "I was... just..." It was obvious he was trying to find an excuse not to meet new people and falling flat. "Sure. I'm fine with meeting your friends. Do... you think they'd mind me tagging along?"

Yasu had arrived at the tournament just hours ago. He now stood down on the beach near the boardwalk whilst tourists above him had boatloads of fun. He wanted to join in, however, he was someone with one goal in mind today, “Please get yourself some muscles so you do not die at the tournament or become the laughing stock of the world.” For this reason, the young man held two 5 lb. weighs in each hand and flexed them horizontally in front of himself from shoulder to chest. “I need to make my Pecs grow,” he thought to himself as well as he considered Tiger Lily’s words to him about strength. She told him proper training and diet helped gain good muscles or fitness akin to her. The young man was going to prove her right; however, lifting 10 lbs. was all he could do. He would never stun anyone with this type of training. He needed to find food, yes, glorious food that would let him charge straight into lifting 200 lb. weights. He dropped his weights and jumped up onto the boardwalk from below then proceeded into the crowds. A few of the people fit right at home here with their colored floral shirts or training gis but Yasu’s plain red and white tracksuit and gray sneakers were a disaster, alongside his messy brown hair and eyes, whether he could be a martial artist or not in someone’s eyes. “This what I get for paying for Chiu and her medical bills, plus spending money on a World Martial Arts entry form and yet another servant too.” He told himself as he bumped past children, mascots, and the local fighter. He could be decked out in awesome attire, however, he had very little Zeni today. He stopped moving though when his eyes fell upon an odder sight than he did young man within his own age range with partially bleached white hair and rather normal brown hair. He a blue and white uniform and had on a nice belt too. Yasu’s heart beat and he shouted from behind with a raised right arm and waving, “Oh wow, someone here as a level of fashion sense attuned to my own! I am not alone! HI!” He had no clue who he was speaking with or interacting with; however, these types of interactions had thus far gone favorably with Yasu. What type you ponder, well, the type where a human being jumps in and inserts him or herself into your life without your say so. It was super rude to do but Yasu had already insulted a witch maybe so this could not be any worse. He needed to say something to someone after all to get involved in things. It seemed Toshiro remembered meeting her briefly on the Taco King boat, Ty nodded her head gingerly, and she moved along the queue. As she listened to the teenage android, she ordered her lemonade souvenir cup, and hopped out of line with a bounce on her step.
“Yeah! My boyfriend is the CEO of the Taco King franchise.” The red head tilted her head at Toshiro’s hesitation of meeting other teens, “Well, I was hoping my friend Konja had someone to go on the rides with, instead of being alone. We can also go together too, so she can ride with her childhood friend, Cayle.”
Suddenly Yasu jumped right in front of the duo-tone colored android, explaining that their choice of track suits were the same fashion sense, and Tiger Lily giggled at his approach.
“Hey Yasu!” Ty then handed her lemonade souvenir cup to the magus, “Try this! It’s super delicious. Did you know lemons have amazing properties? It even defeats ailments like scurvy from being out at sea. So cool right?”
After he hopefully took the cup from her hand, she immediately took his free hand, along with Toshiro’s and dragged both teenage boys in the direction of the saiyans. Once they were lead through the crowd, to find Konja with a cotton candy, and Cayle looking out for Nalta from a distance.
“Hey~!” Ty grinned, releasing her grip from the pair she dragged over, and directed her attention to Konja, “My friends want to go on the rides and hang out with us today. How about it Konja? Meet Shiro and Yasu. Which one do you think is cuter?”
Just like that, the earthling half saiyan asked Konja a bold question, but it was not uncommon for teenagers to share their opinions on such matters. The best case scenario was that Konja felt they were both cute teenage boys or she simply did not understand the question fully. Of course, Ty was immediately distracted again, she grabbed Cayle’s hand.

Jack was wearing his usual combat suit of armor with the Brave Sword sheathed and mounted on his back while he was followed by his shirtless Saiyan partner Choi, who was happily chowing down on some Cotton Candy that the young adult hybrid had bought for him. There were a lot of strong energy signatures radiating at the area because the world's most capable fighters were enjoying the Palaf Land pop-up Amusement Park just ahead of the World Martial Arts Tournament. It would be his first time attempting to participate in the tournament, but he was eager just to watch in the circumstance that he couldn't pass the preliminaries in his registered division. He was able to pick up on a few energy signatures that were familiar to him as he continued to walk in the direction he was sensing them while he carried a bag of two dozen individually wrapped Onigiri, smirking to himself at the thought of a reunion with he fellow Saiyans after being away for a long time to focus on his swordsmanship skills with the Brave Sword. "It looks like the gang's all here. I bought Onigiri, if anyone's interested, that is." Jack said with a knowing smirk before beaming to his former comrades after he got within talking distance. His attention was then briefly drawn to both the dual-toned Toshiro and the raven-haired Yasu. Hmm... They must be new friends of her's...Ty always did have a knack for making new friends. They both have potential as well. I'd like to see what they are capable of later... Jack thought briefly before offering Konja a glance just before he returned his attention to whoever would address him next. He was of the assumption that everyone in present company would be participating in the tournament, but he wouldn't press for that sort of intelligence prior to being inquired if he'd be participating or not.
