A cloudy breath of cool air escaped his lips as he clenched his fist, staring straight ahead with grim determination. A brief gust of wind swept through the desolate tundra, tossing his hair and snagging at his uniform. Bits of ice drizzled from the skies above—remnants of the ice monolith he just shattered with his fist. "I... I think I'm getting stronger." He stared down at his hands. Unbeknownst to the young strategist, someone actually near his age began to walk towards him… Roderick had been trudging through the snow after his encounter with a certain General. The memory of the shoveling hadn’t left it yet. It was the only thing as of late occupying his mind. What she had said and what she had implied stuck with him. Maybe he- his thoughts were interrupted before they could even get off as he heard a loud cracking of ice and the ground lightly shaking. He was confused as to what just happened. Was there a nearby Avalanche?! He stopped and turned to the direction of where he thought the huge ruckus could’ve come from. Now, it was probably not a very smart thing to go somewhere that probably just had an avalanche… but he wasn’t smart, so he headed off to the area. Once he made it out of the forest and made it to a, mostly, flat plain of snow and ice, he saw something that stuck out like a sore thumb in this place. A being of white and red. He walked toward the figure in the distance, placing his hands in his pockets as he approached them. The snow crunching under his feet. He finally reached the being and stood behind him. He glanced around at the ice shards littering the surrounding area. This didn't keep his attention too long before he focused his gaze back at the figure, his mask still over his face. His scarf, jacket, pants, boots, and gloves all covering his body in order to keep him warm… alongside his hat over his head. The only thing visible that wasn’t covered by clothing was his dark brown eyes. Crystals of ice still were falling from the red and white, strategists punch. The sound of the crumbling structure echoed far off into the distance. The snap of the ice was sharp in the ears of the critters who called the tundra home. Winter hares nestled deeper into their burrows whilst chittering birds sought shelter in the thick canopy of the forest trees. All fell silent... save for one. A being emerged from the forest line clad in heavy wintry gear appropriate for the weather. Their gait was calm and sure as they approached. Friend or foe, only time would tell. The pair stood in silence before the being spoke. The voice of a young man. Shiro stared blankly in response. He hadn’t really thought about how quiet it actually was until after the being in front of him spoke with no background noise. No chirping. No trees rustling. Nothing. Just the sound of the faint wind, and even that was muffled due to his mask. He refocused his attention to the being in front of him once again. He couldn’t just daydream like usual. The reason was that he let his guard slip the first time he met that general in their first encounter. He couldn’t do the same here. This one might actually be dangerous due to their tone. However, they did try to clear up what they meant. Maybe that was just a cover-up, though. “… Uh… maybe… did you… make that loud rumbling?” He really wasn’t sure what to call it other than that. If this… person did that… then he would be screwed if he tried to fight them. Fighting was down in the list of what he wanted to do here. He felt a chill run up his spine at the thought of what this person could do. He began to lightly shake, the cold not being the issue. Not only that, but he gulped as quietly as he could. If he could feel whatever this person did, then he must be incredibly powerful. At least in comparison to him. He made sure not to show he was shaking, only internally shaking. Roderick needed to remain in focus. This person could be dangerous... so why was he trying to relax?! He needed to. If anything was going to happen, if he needed to fight- fight?? Fight who? Not them! Didn't he just feel what this person could do? If they aimed whatever they did at him, it's curtains! Thoughts like these were exactly why he needed to relax! If he was thinking like this in a fight with them, distracted by his own thoughts, then he stood no chance. It was better to be relaxed at clear now rather than have his mind muddled and clouded!... He closed his eyes, no matter how dumb it may have looked or confusing it might have been for the person in front of him, it would help him calm down. He breathed in and out, letting his shoulders relax, letting the tension leave. Soon, He then unclutched his fists that were in his pockets. Then his chest lowered, then his legs relaxed, and finally his mind became clear. Only if for a moment. It was clear. He opened his eyes once again and stared at the person in front of him. At the odd man's question, Toshiro Motoyama glanced down at the ground. Bits of shattered ice lay embedded in the soft snow around their feet. Neither of them could take a step in any direction without stepping on them. The sunlight shone overhead, bright and clear; where the light hit the ice shards, they shimmered like a bed of diamonds. "I did... isn't it obvious?" Shiro arched a brow. "I'm in the middle of a training session. I've been at it all morning. I'm fine, but the cold is starting to affect my systems' performance." Information and data came to him at a slower pace than normal. "If you don't mind, I'd like to get back to my train—" He stopped abruptly, noting the minute changes in Roderick's stance. Shiro noticed he was no longer trembling from the cold. His eyes closed and his body relaxed as the tension drained away. Shiro had seen this before; it was a common practice among martial artists just before they prepared themselves for a fight. "I don't know who you are," the bi-colored youth stated as he took a step forward, raising his right hand. The shattered ice that glistened in the light were like little stars on the ground. He felt like a celebrity to a bunch of tiny people. He felt happy- focus. Focus. Focus. There he was, at it again. He stared at the person in front of him, letting him just run his mouth. He didn’t seem friendly at all, since of how he was speaking to him. They could’ve just said yes, but decided to be rude and act like he was dumb. He thought about speaking back at the slightly rude reply’s before hearing something about systems. Systems performance? What did that mean? The cold affecting it? He automatically assumed that he had an electronic on him. Maybe he was doing tests out here? He said he was training, but that could be taken as a multitude of things. That’s when he noticed a change, too. Did the person in front of him notice the change in his demeanor? How?? He barely moved! Must’ve been the eyes that gave it away. His relaxed demeanor was being tested with this guy’s talking. He began to tense up once again, trying to remain relaxed. Although, His focus certainly was on him now. He noticed the ice form on the now raised right hand of the person. Even with the surrounding snow, even he could see the vapor flowing off of it. He breathed in and out, trying to conserve as much energy as he could before a possible fight occurred. He turned his foot in the snow. If he was going to die, … might as well go swinging? “Listen, I ain’t mean harm… but… you swing, and I’ll have to fight back.” He was so dead. How was he- stop. No negative talk. Just for a moment, be calm. Be confident in yourself. He’s seen what other fighters could do on TV. On his phone. If those kinds of people could take punches that crack’s concrete, then he should be able to handle just a bit of ice. He had warm clothing after all. He didn't want to fight. A fight seemed inevitable. The hooded figure responded to Shiro's threat in kind and the implication was clear: if Shiro made any threatening moves, those actions would be met with an appropriate response. Shiro narrowed his eyes, squaring his feet. He held his right hand out in front of him, fingers splayed as wispy tendrils of cold vapor danced between them. Such a response was unsurprising but perhaps this could be a good thing. Training alone was difficult, and even if he could replicate fighting someone else, it could not capture the true essence of battle. What sort of hero shied away from a conflict? He would face this challenge as he would any other. "Is that so? So you're saying... if I swing at you, you'll fight back?" His fingers curled, then flexed, ice coating his hand and forearm. "If it matters, I have no intention of throwing any punches." The echo of his snapping fingers reverberated around them. The ground between them ruptured and fractured as shards of ice sprouted, piercing through the frozen soil. A line of shards traveled the short distance between them, heading straight at Roderick! Roderick listened to what this person had to say. He noticed them curling their fingers before flexing, the ice coating their hand and forearm. He tensed up at this. Not only that, but he tightened his own fist and wasn’t sure whether to believe this person. Could they really trust someone like them not to attack? They said they wouldn’t throw any punches, but that didn’t account for any weird powers they seemed to have. He saw the ice running up their arm. Was he preparing an attack? They sure did seem like it. What could he do against someone with ice powers? He was only used to hand to hand combat, and even then…. He couldn't even... Rage began to fill him at the memories. At the humiliation. At the pain… at the crying. He felt his mind begin to be cloud, his relaxed demeanor quickly fading. His stance now seeming tense rather than calm. He was such a failure. Such a whiner. Such a crybaby. Feelings of anger washed over him before he shook his head and stared back at the danger standing ahead of him. He was angry now, he had to control that. He might… make a mistake…but… they just stood there. Looking at him like he wouldn’t be a problem. Just because they had something that he didn’t, didn't mean he couldn’t beat them. No, he could win this. He could at least try to go down swinging. If he couldn’t even do that, then what was he worth? Why was he even thinking like this? He had been defusing the situation down! No one was going to hurt anyone. He was just paranoid. There was nothing wrong at the moment. He could just keep talking, have them reach an understanding. No one wanted to fight anyone. Now just relax, keep your cool, and reply to what they said-
That’s when he realized about what this person exactly said. They had been very specific on wording there. He said punches, not attacks. Was he trying to lie without directly lying? It took one to know one. He glanced away, trying to weigh his options on what to do. Should he attack, run away, keep talking? Was he seriously considering on fighting this monster? He would surely perish! Then maybe talking! Talking might be out of the equation since they seemed to preparing an attack already. What about running. He could back up and… no… running away might not help either. Not that he was in the mood of wanting to either, even with some of his instincts telling him to. He was already so close. If he tried to run, and they were really keen on attacking, they would have a free opening on him. They were close enough for a jab if he struck first too… That just left one option.
“… You know… I believe you… “ He took a deep breath in. “But… you should’ve phrased that better.” He then let out a sigh as his senses heightened and his heart raced with blood pumping through his veins. He dug his foot into the ground before catapulting himself towards the opponent in front of him. It had been so long since he’s fought someone. Hopefully he could get in the groove of it again. Fast too. This person had some tricks up their sleeves that weren’t just feints or breathing techniques. He closed the short gap between them, putting all he could into his right hook. He let his strength come back to him and to his fist, it was rushing towards his opponents cheek. Unfortunately, His anger from earlier clouded his mind, causing him to make a careless mistake so early on. He slipped up on the snow, which caused him to be sloppy. He was just swinging his limb towards the opponent. This was just a wild swing. If this were to connect, he would try to make up for that sloppy mistake by following up with a left hook. Hopefully his strength hasn’t waned in these past few months. Sure… he… hadn’t been… exactly training but… there was no excuse. He had been slacking. He prayed his strength was still there. His strength would be something he would need if he wanted to hurt them at all. Maybe get them to look left and right, to act right. Heh, just the image of that was quite amusing to him. Hopefully it would actually come to fruition. All he hoped was his attacks would hurt them enough to knock them out. If it didn’t, … whatever magic powers this weird guy had was going to hurt. If that trembling he felt not too long ago, that... grounding shaking of an attack really did come from this… this opponent… he was truly screwed.

This man was fast. He charged straight at Shiro, fist cocked to deliver a straight right punch. His systems came to life all at once as his battle systems responded to the new threat. Shiro's eyes narrowed as he took a couple of steps backward, squaring his feet in response as he prepared to defend himself. His vision filled with the possible trajectory of the thrown punch, and at which angles he could hope to avoid it. So... this fight was going to happen after all! Much to his surprise, the punch went wild. Roderick lost his footing in his haste, slipping and losing his balance. It was all the opening Shiro needed as he sidestepped the almost comical attack at an attack, the fist sailing wide past his shoulder. "No offense, but I'm going to end this quickly!" Shiro squatted, his body hunkering down in a defensive stance as he slammed his palm into the ground. The ice ruptured at his touch, shooting out from beneath him as it coated the ground in a swirling miasma. He directed its flow straight at Roderick, a rumbling low wall of sharp icy spikes bursting from the ground to push him back and away. [202 of 990] SUMMARY PHASE.

He knew he had made a terrible mistake, and he hadn't even taken a hit. He knew he started off sloppy. Not only did he miss, he slipped on the snow. While he wasn't exactly used to fighting in such and environment, or fighting at all, he made it worse by looking like and idiot in the process. His opponent even backed up, just letting him fall onto the cold, soft snow after missing two punches. He extended his hand out to NOT fall on his face. This leading his hand to dig at least an inch in the snow. He was going to push off the ground to regain his footing. However, he heard his opponent shout out their upcoming attack. He focused on the stance they took and wondered what they were doing. Why wasn't he trying to kick him- that's when he remembered he wasn't fighting some normal guy. Loud rumbling, Ice going up arm, weird stance. It all, pretty obviously so, showed that he should've been expecting something that isn't going to be just a normal kick or punch. Well, he had been expecting something, but he just forgot! His mind was clouded as he thought about this in those few brief seconds as he stared at his opponent. He only managed to break out of it when he saw sheets of spiky, low ice make their way from the opponent's hand straight towards him. This finally was what he needed to focus on the battle and not get hit with the full force of this guy's powers. "OH, SHI-" He ordered his arms to push off the ground NOW! He did so, quickly trying to get out of the way. He positioned his arms to cover his face as he moved. His body braced for impact, feeling the spiky ice meet its target. Not only that, but he was pushed back! Thankfully, it was only a couple of meters. It still caused him to fall to the ground once again. He thought that was the end of it. That was just one blow- and that's when he felt another wall of sharp ice hit him. Thankfully, he already had his guard up, so it mitigated the damage. He was sent back once again to roll across the snow like a ball. Once he finally stopped rolling, the sensation of very dull pain, but sharp on some parts, of his body finally set in from those two blows. Was it the adrenaline or his quick guard that managed to *null* the pain? Whatever the case was, that was an incredible punish from his opponent's part. They had managed to know him flat on his butt. He didn't know what he was looking at until he realized it was the sky. They managed to fully lay him out on the ground. Incredible. He quickly tried to get his bearings as he felt his blood pumping through his body. Even being able to hear it in his ears. He twisted his body to be on all fours. Feeling his feet trying to kick off the ground, managing to stand halfway up. He was bull rushing right towards them. Too bad he couldn't catch a break. He fell onto the snow again. The shock of that blow coming into full effect. That really messed up with his senses. That and the snowy environment really taking him off his game, He couldn't even stand up properly. His head was spinning from all of a sudden movement. His mind kept trying to kick his feet up to stand. He pushed off the ground with his arms, finally managing to stand on his two limbs. He must've been going faster than he expected because when he looked up, he saw them only about a foot or two away from himself. Not only that, but he wouldn't even be able to properly throw a punch at this angle. His head spinning, his upper torso still trying to stand up straight, and his arms still rattling from that blow almost all but assured he was at a disadvantage on these next attacks. He still attempted it, though. What else could he do? He swung his limbs at the ice powers man, just realizing he didn't even know this guy's name. Attempting a wild haymaker before just sending a flurry of punches towards the powerful guy. He let out puffs of visible air with each strike, hoping at least one of them landed on them. The puffs of air may have hampered his attacks. Inadvertently blocking his vision with his already dizzying mind. He had missed twice, while this guy had landed two blows on him. This opponent had landed more hits and managed to effectively use his powers. He was out of his element in this environment while they had home turf advantage, he was clouded by his mind, dizzied by those attacks, and wasn't used to their attack style. Let alone powers like this. He had no chance. ("835 words. 2,754 words in total.") SUMMARY PHASE.

"Maybe I... over did it." Shiro stood and rubbed his head, frowning at the spectacle before him. No matter how much the other youth tried to regain his composure, the icy terrain saw fit to plant him firmly back onto his posterior. "This is just getting sad. Maybe we don't have to do this." Shiro gave a light hop, landing atop the spiky ice wall he'd previously created. He slipped his hands into his pockets, studying his foe. "I'm not a bad guy. I don't want to attack you while you're still trying to get your bearings. Something tells me you're not used to fighting in this environment. It's... a bit unfair."Perhaps mercy for an enemy was foolish. Maybe one day it would even get him seriously hurt. "Why don't we just call it a truce and let cooler heads prevail? He stopped for just a moment. He was expecting an attack from him just now, so it confused him on why he didn't feel any strikes or blows coming his way. His panting was loud and clear for his opponent. He was already tired. Already feeling exhausted from just that short burst of attacks and attacks he took. He really hadn't been training. At all. He hadn't trained at all up until that point with Jingle Village. That was light work, so of course that wouldn't tire him out. But this? He felt like he was pushing himself to just pull air into his lungs. It didn't help with the ski mask limiting his air. He tried to regain his composure before making any moves. In the meantime, he tried to hear what this guy was talking about. He couldn't really hear, let alone understand, what this guy was saying. All that was going through his mind was the pulsing pain he felt on his body. The pounding of the rush of his blood through his ears. And the sound of his body trying to breathe. Maybe if he had been calmer, he would've listened. Maybe if his blood wasn't pumping in his ears, he would've heard him. Maybe if they didn't hit him so freaking HARD, he would've stopped. However, he was pissed, panicking, and thought it was way past the point of talking. Plus, he didn't like how he was just standing above him on that ice wall. He looked up at them. After some time of composing himself, and when saw their mouth stop moving, he looked at them with wide eyes. "... What?!" He then extended his arms out to push him off the ice wall, hoping he could at least do that. He would try to stand on top of the ice wall, almost tipping over and falling off prematurely, but managing to catch himself and lean towards where he had pushed that guy. In that brief moment he was on the ice wall, he saw something in the distance. He wasn't sure exactly what it was, but he knew it wasn't good. It was all a blur of clouds, darkness, and rushing air to him. He couldn't exactly connect the dots at that moment. "The heck is that?" he would mumble to himself, momentarily distracted by what he saw before realizing what he was going to do. He looked down at him before jumping into the air and attempting to use the momentum of the fall to try and aid him on stomping this fallen guy on the ground, aiming to use both of his feet to stomp on the guy's torso or at least his arm. If he was using his arm to conjure up that ice, then maybe injuring it would help mess with it? It may have been a stretch, but he had to take chances if he didn't want to have one of those crazy ice walls hit him. This wasn't very martial arts like. Yeah, well neither is ice coming from the ground to decimate him. Not only was he already exhausted, but just trying to climb the wall hurt his body. Just how much damage did that attack do? At least it didn't rip his clothing. If it did, it wasn't a lot, since he didn't feel the rush of cold air hit his skin. It was far too late to go back now and just talk things out. Had he made a mistake in his judgement in fighting? Probably, but it was, like he had thought earlier, too late to go back now. Maybe in the future, he could think things through BEFORE deciding to get his but kicked by someone who had superpowers. Yeah, that would've been good advice. A realization came to him just then. If that tremor was any indicator of this guy's ability with his ice, then couldn't he have already ended this fight? This thought ran in the subconscious of his mind, the main one busy trying to stick the landing on the makeshift mat that was beautifully colored white and red... wait, red? Why was colored red? His subconscious gears began to turn. Why was he partly red? If white signified ice, then what the heck did red signify? Lava? If it did, then his suspicions were right, this guy was holding back. But why? Why would this random stranger hold back, or at least play, with him? Images of him missing all his attacks then ran through the back of his mind. That was his answer. He was so pathetic that he wasn't even worth the effort of being treated like an actual threat. Was this how this guy viewed him? Just some weak kid who should be toyed with? Is that it?! Anger. Shiro glanced back over his shoulder to gauge how close the encroaching storm was. The skies had begun to darken far off on the horizon. The wind picked up, stirring up a large rolling cloud carrying bits of ice and snow flurries. He narrowed his gaze, returning his attention to the youth standing below him. Try as he might, he couldn't gauge what his motivations were. Who voluntarily put themselves in harm's way? Was he trying to prove a point? Or was there something more going on? This fight felt more and more ridiculous with each passing second. The weather was growing worse by the minute. Data scrawled across his vision, filling his mind with the sudden change in air pressure and density. The temperature had dropped significantly. His systems worked to keep his core temperature at its necessary level, but soon the extra output would cause a strain upon his body. There was much he still didn't know about himself—the last thing he wanted was to damage his systems. Maybe appealing to the guy was the best course of action. "Hey, look!" Toshiro pointed toward the encroaching storm, shouting over the rising wind. "If we don't get out of here, we'll be swallowed up in that! Is that what you—" His words were cut short. A sudden shove forced him to lose his balance and veer backwards. His arms windmilled, eyes widening as he sought purchase with his footing upon the wall but there was none to claim. He fell off, landing with a thud on his back in the thick snow, half buried in it. Before he could dig himself out, Roderick came diving with a double foot stomp. It drove him deeper into the snow, forcing the air out of his lungs, stunning him. On reflex, his lungs screamed for air as Toshiro momentarily forgot he didn't need oxygen to survive anymore. Pure instinct saw him crawl his way out of the hole, coughing and choking. He pulled himself shakily to his feet, one arm cradled to his aching stomach. "Are you crazy!?" His frustration built within him, a slow burn steadily growing hotter by the second. "Did you not just hear a WORD I said?" He clenched his fist, glaring at Roderick. He was hell bent on continuing this fight despite Toshiro's warning. Not only was it a terrible idea, but Shiro doubted he could focus on the fight and track the incoming storm. It was likely, if this fight ended soon enough, they would both be overtaken. His survival was inevitable, but what about the other guy? He had to put a stop to it. "You're leaving me no choice!" He raised his right arm. Smoky vapors swirled around it as ice coated his fingers and forearm. He hunkered down, feet squared as he braced himself for what was to come. The last time he used this attack, it was working security at a festival held in the Southern Islands. Back then, that crazy strong Namekian, Bass, had warned him against restraint and potential collateral damage. But that wouldn't be a problem out in the frozen wastelands of the North. He charged at Roderick, fingertips leaving a trail of frost in their wake along the ground as he swung his arm low before bringing it up in a quick, underhanded swing. The ground ruptured as icy shards erupted forth, a giant wall of ice far more deadly than the one before. It sent spiraling spears of ice heading straight at Roderick. A part of him hoped he missed the attack. Not conducive for winning, but he didn't want to really hurt him. The wall rose high, shooting out from the ground at rapid speed. For the first time, Shiro understood what Bass was trying to tell him, even if he'd found the intrusive opinion annoying before. Was he the hero? Because the sight of his own attack filled with him some trepidation. His actions... felt more villainous. WC: 663 | 1,844 SUMMARY PHASE.

On his way down, he realized he may have jumped too wildly. While he did land on his opponent, he slipped off them not too long after and fell into the snow again. He groaned in pain as tried to get to his feet. Even in his now bewildered state, he had only landed one foot on them. The other foot having missed him somehow and landing on the snow. That hurt his foot that had missed its target. He wondered what caused him to miss. His own incompetence or... he felt the wind building up now. He was confused by this and tried to look around, feeling the wind before seeing... the storm. It had been encroaching faster than he had anticipated. He had to get out of there before things got worse! Why didn't he just- interrupted once again, he heard the other boy call him crazy for his sudden attack. He turned to face them, still on the ground. This time on his four's rather than his back. He noticed their clenched fist. What was he going to do? His eyes widened once he saw the smoky vapors come from his hands. Oh no, another ice attack! He tried to stand up, but he collapsed to the ground when he tried to stand on both feet, the pain at his ankle forcing him to stay down. Crap, he messed up his foot bad. He looked up in terror at his opponent ready up an attack. He thought he was going to just send another ranged attack his way, expecting just another wall of ice. However, fortune hadn't been favoring him in this fight, and it hadn't changed its attitude towards him yet. He felt assured when he hunkered. He was going for the same attack. Planning to dodge the attack the same way he had always been "dodging" it. Wait, had he dodged an attack so far yet? His memory told him no. Okay, so maybe he was going to take this attack head on. But it was just a wall of ice. He had taken it before, he could take it again. So that's why the last thing he expected was for this guy with insane powers to rush towards him with no hesitation. The trail of frost trailing behind like smoke from a jet, in his mind at least. He changed his plan for a head on physical brawl with the opponent before he was tricked yet again, the wall of massive ice shooting up from the ground towards his fallen state. His eyes widened, he had to dodge this! He felt his body instinctively push off the ground and to the side of the, bigger than usual, wall of ice. He let out a gasp, happy he dodged it. That was close, but that was probably his finisher. No way he could- "OH FU-" He noticed another massive wall of ice head his way. He forced his good leg to help him push off the ground. Finally, having a footing in the snow, he pushed off the snowy terrain and out of the way of the incoming attack. He rolled on the ground, covering his clothing in the snow, helping him blend in ever so slightly into the terrain. He panted, trying to catch his breath. This felt like a boss fight! IT WAS AMAZING! He felt his heart beating wildly as the adrenaline of the fight made him feel... excited? He couldn't fully understand why. Why did fighting in a hopeless fight like this excite him? Those last attacks almost pulverized him! He wondered if he had gone made or if it was just the adrenaline making him crazy. Whatever the case, he was starting to love it. That's when he learned his opponent wasn't yet done. He quickly noticed the next attack coming at him. It looked like a ray of ice come straight at him. He felt... happy. He forced his injured foot to face the ground before jumping over the cone of ice. The smallest hint of a smile on his face. He felt a wave of cold wind pass by his legs, but remained unharmed. Thank god, he decided to wear boots and thick pants for this. He landed back down on the snow, wincing at the pain, but still on his feet. In a crouched position before forcing himself to stand up, his smile growing. He had his footing now. His legs propelled him to run towards his opponent, now invigorated. He wasn't slipping in the snow anymore. It now looked like he was gliding. Probably not falling due to shred of luck on his side. He ran towards him with no hesitation, his fist cocked before sending a gut punch to him. A grin on his face as he did so. Whether it hit or not was still unknown. He just hoped it would, that last attack encouraging him that this guy wasn't invincible. If that landed, he would debate if he should go for a punch or a kick. Deciding on the latter to kick in order to mix it up. Using his injured foot, he fought through the pain as he lifted it before sending a kick to his shin. God, he hoped this would hit.
