This was insane. There was no point for this conflict. What began as a misunderstanding had devolved into an idiotic fight. Both of them were going to be in peril soon. Somehow, the fighter evaded the massive wall of spiked ice. Perhaps he’d adapted to Shiro’s fighting style and adjusted his own approach: he rushed at Shiro, no longer stumbling about but moving with a confidence that belied an inner strength. It was almost admirable. The fist that plowed into his stomach churned his insides and threw him backwards. He landed on the snow, grunting and wincing, a hand protectively sheltering his stomach again. He pushed himself up off the ground, rising shakily to his feet. Another kick came flying his direction, only this time Shiro possessed the presence of mind to avoid it, leaping backwards and out of his reach. Toshiro drew several deep breaths, as he stood there, partially hunched to accommodate the pain in his side. This guy had to have seen the coming storm—he had to! Did he live in Jingle Village? Maybe he was a native to this frozen desert, accustomed to its temperamental weather and unrelenting cold? How did he expect to get away after this? Toshiro knew he couldn’t get away without a fight. This fight didn’t sit right with him. It wasn’t like that time in South City when he and Bass confronted those silly sea pirates. They were the obvious bad guys, looking to bring trouble, cause harm, and ruin the fun of innocent people. It was easy to point at them and mark them as a target. Toshiro didn’t know a thing about this guy. Not his name, nor where he was from, or even what he wanted. Were these the actions of a hero? He felt like a bully. He wanted to escape the coming storm and the ire of this fighter. “You still want to do this?” Toshiro shouted over the howling wind, shielding his face with a forearm. “You want to keep fighting? What’s the point—what are you trying to prove!?” Aside from the last stinging blow Roderick had dealt to him, this fight had been one-sided from the start. This fighter was helpless to the elements and especially Shiro’s long-distance attacks. Though he’d learned to dodge the incoming icy shards—perhaps even predict their trajectory so as to avoid them—he still struggled against them. Maybe that was the only way to end this fight. Shiro clenched his fist, vapors stirring again. “I swore to use this power of mine for the good of those around me.” He muttered aloud, talking himself though his gaze never wandered from Roderick’s. “It’s… the only reason I'm still ALIVE. To fight like this… damn it. There’s got to be a better way.” If there was, he was unaware of it. So he’d do the only thing he knew how to do—deal swiftly with his enemy. The ice attacks caused his foe the most trouble, but he was accustomed to it. It was time to switch tactics, and if the youth got seriously injured, he swore to himself he’d get him medical attention. Toshiro charged at Roderick, foregoing a distant attack. As he neared, he thrust his palm forward, sending a spiraling column of misty vapors straight for him. It spread and expanded quickly, obscuring both fighters’ view and freezing even the droplets in the air solid. The extra cold should slow his opponent down. Better yet, Shiro wouldn’t need to see this time. He launched himself forward, taking a page from Roderick’s book, stomping the frozen ground with his right foot. Immediately, ice shot out from around him in all directions, large blunt spikes that would no doubt entrap Roderick should he fail to move again! WC: 646 | 2,490 SUMMARY PHASE.

This was insane. Insane at how SHREDDED this guy was. Holy crap. He remembered the feeling of punching that guy in the gut. Sure he felt like he gave him a good hit, and it even surprised himself at how he threw him back, but it felt like he had punched a board. He must've had a six-pack or something. It did make him feel weird and left his hand shaking from the hit. Why did every other guy he meet have to have one? It, frankly, made him feel self-conscious about his own abdomen. Why did he have to have the beer belly? Even this guys arms looked more in shape than him! He quickly regained his focus as he stared down his opponent. Did he really hit him that hard? That was probably the hardest punch he landed this entire fight, and it looked to have knocked the wind out of him. He gave the upcoming hero time to breathe, unaware that they technically didn't need to. Plus, this fight had just been getting exciting! He couldn't be rude and not give him a chance to prepare another attack. Toshiro's opponent's eyes were wide and beaming towards him. His stance, some type of martial arts. He stood over them while he regained his breath. Even with that punch, his opponent seemed to be panting even harder than him. Almost wheezing like he had just run a mile. Crap, the effects of him not training all this time began to swing back in. All Those McRonald burgers weren't just showing on his figure now, but at his stamina too. His side now beginning to hurt from trying to overexert himself. He tried to fight through the pain to answer his opponent. "Because!" He hoarsely shouted through the ever-increasing ferocity of the wind. "I... need experience..." A cough almost made it out, but he managed to hold it in. This was really taking a lot out of him. Maybe he could keep this up for another minute or so. Besides, the adrenaline in his blood and the intensity of the battle motivated him to continue. The air suddenly feeling... heavier for some reason after Toshiro mumbled something. What was he doing? A song began to play in his head, like it usually did to get him in the mood. In this fight, funnily enough, he began to play the song "I need a hero" in his head. He stared at Toshiro regain his footing before rushing at him. So he was going to try the same tactic again? It didn't work last time, and it wouldn't work this time either. He then began to mumble some words under his breath, "I need a hero..." He readied himself for the same attack again. Unfortunately for Roderick, it wasn't going to be the same attack. His vision was quickly covered by the misty vapors. Clever guy! He swiftly moved his arms to cover the only exposed part of his body, his eyes. As soon as he did this, he felt the freezing wind envelope his body as it passed by. He stood his ground, waving the vapors away, so he could see while uncovering his eyes. The first thing he noticed was a thin sheet of ice covering his clothing. He certainly felt cold, but overall fine. Thank goodness for his extra warm clothing that his- "OH NO!" He got a glimpse of his opponent ripping a page from his own book and using it to fuel his next attack. He felt the ground shake and could only guess what that meant. Roderick, a little honored that the flag colored boy would copy what he had been doing, jumped towards Shiro despite the pain in his foot. Barely making it out of the imprisonment that was meant for him. His injured foot was hit as he jumped out by the blunt spikes protruding out of the ground. He groaned in pain, now rolling in the air towards Toshiro. His original plan of tackling the foe now foiled, his rolling body rushed towards the boy. This itself somehow an attack. If this caught the icy fellow off guard, he would crash into him, and they would both be on the ground. Trying to see where he was, he would spot his opponent and quickly try to spin on the ground to kick him. Too bad for him, this was his now even MORE injured leg. He was going to be regretting his rash action if it hit. If his body missed or his opponent moved out of the way, he would just attempt the same thing, but with the intent of knocking him down to the ground with him. It was the most perfect of plans, but the searing pain of his leg didn't allow him to properly think of one either. Also, he was in the swing of things. Leave him alone! Once again, he failed to ensnare his opponent. Roderick slipped through the ice trap for a third time, his body barreling into Toshiro as the both of them went sprawling in the snow. Toshiro rolled, bumping roughly along the ground. Once he stopped, he glanced up groggily as data scrawled across his HUD. He'd taken a lot of blunt force damage; he hadn't been built to endure this level of punishment - or so he believed. He snapped out of his reverie just in time as Roderick's foot swept towards him. Toshiro rolled to his left as the kick carved a crevice through the deep snow, getting back to his feet. He raised his hand again, but lowered it, unsure of what to do. The youth's reasoning was familiar. He, too, wanted to gain experience and grow stronger. Was it to protect others as well? Had he found a kindred soul? Worse yet, how could he continue fighting someone whose only clear motivation wasn't malevolent by nature? It was a conundrum, to be sure. To make matters worse, he was clearly outmatched by this foe. He'd grown sure footed as their battle waged, landing several decisive blows that left Shiro reeling. He couldn't handle much more of this. He… just wasn't capable enough. "You… want to be a hero?" He squinted, shielding his face from the fierce winds. "I don't believe you!" Toshiro clenched his left hand into a fist. "Heroes protect people, not hurt them." A spark danced along his knuckles. "They look out for the innocent, stand up for the voiceless, and when necessary--" The spark grew to a flame, engulfing his entire left arm. "--they strike down a threat WHEREVER they might find one!" How had he let his resolve waver? He couldn't leave--not without finishing this. Even if he had to knock this guy silly and drag him out of harm's way. The storm was upon them. Howling winds blew blinding drifts of snow at them. It tore at Toshiro's hair and clothing; his systems elevated his core temperature, melting the ice and snow the moment it touched his skin. Roderick briefly forgotten, Shiro stood facing the storm. It roared, a great hulking white beast that sought to devour all in its path. If his foe wouldn't leave without a conclusion to their fight, perhaps he could accommodate that. Toshiro thrust his right arm forward, causing ice to spring up. It formed a giant ice wall, rising higher and higher as he guided it overhead. His plan was simple: it was far too late to take cover at a nearby shelter so he'd create one for them. The half dome of ice formed a protective wall, mostly sheltering them from the blizzard as it continued to stir around them. Toshiro stared up at its underside. It groaned beneath the storm's assault yet held firm. "Maybe that did the trick." The flames on his left had extinguished as he'd regained control of his emotions. "We should be protected from the storm now. At least we won't get buried under a ton of snow." He sat on the ground, one leg stretched out while the other bent at the knee, resting his arm against it. His stare was cold as he regarded Roderick. "My name's Shiro, by the way. I came here to train and get stronger so that I could be a hero. So if that means defeating you, that's what I'll do. Only AFTER the storm passes and the danger is cleared. For now, come get warmed up." Flames coalesced around his left hand, burning bright. These grew hotter by the second, filling the immediate area around him with warmth. "Who are you anyway? Why did you come to this place?" WC: 624 | 3,113 SUMMARY PHASE.

If he hadn't been wearing a mask, Toshiro would've been able to see the happy grin on his face. Real excitement and enjoyment out of something. Something that cleared his mind, if only for just a few moments. Roderick began to shakily stand up, unaware of the incoming storm behind himself. It took him longer to stand up, his foot betraying his balance and causing him to fall to the ground. He panted and gasped for air through his restricting mask. Despite this, his confidence was continuing to rise. He tried again and made it to his feet. Even with the pain throbbing at his bruises. This guy was tough. That last attack didn't hurt him much in the way of actual damage, but it did make the pain worse. Still, even with all of that, he had a gut feeling that this guy wasn't using himself to his fullest potential. Was he still trying to go easy? Felt like he was holding back on him. He moved his hands to his sides and then slowly extended them farther away from his hips in before stopping. Now in a pose as if asking for more. 'I hope I don't look like an idiot while doing this.' He thought to himself as he struck a pose similar to a particular lizard conqueror. He heard them speak to him about being a hero and wondered what he was talking about. Sure he said something about hero's but not much more than that. Could this guy read minds on top of all of this? If so, then that could explain why he had been missing a crap ton of attacks. Still listening, he felt a thrill of excitement go through him at ice head getting passionate. That's when he noticed a spark on his knuckles. Maybe that was just some reflection of light? A trick of his eyes? The answer was made clear once he saw flames engulf the boys left arm. Oh, sh**. He just f***ed up- Roderick's eyes widened in a mix of shock and horror, his arms going from his sides and to his front in a defensive manner. He backed up just a bit out of instinct at the sight of a new element in the mix. However, what scared him more than the fire on his opponent was the tone he said his words in and the look he had. Now, he could handle ice. It was just frozen water. But this? F*** that! He was reconsidering all his decisions that led up to this moment when a perfectly played time of wind hit his back and flowed violently around them. Oh yeah, he briefly forgot about the storm. His clothing made sure he wasn't freezing, but it didn't mean he wasn't cold. He shrunk down his posture to trap as much body heat in response of the sudden cold. Watching him, he noticed the powerful display of power as he created the wall of ice to shield them from the raging winds. Once he finished, he couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief once he saw the flames extinguish from sight. Was... that what he had been holding back. Now humbled by the display, he decided to lower his ego at the few lucky hits in he got and gulped to push the lump in his throat down. He thought he was going to completely cover them, but the half dome worked. It was oddly surreal to be completely fine and protected by just a wall in a blizzard like this. He listened to the boy he now knew as Toshiro speak and explain himself. "Huh... well..." After seeing that fire, he was way less eager to fight, "I'm... Roderick... at least that's my nickname anyway... uh... I..." He tried to remember why he was out here to begin with, "Oh! I heard a loud, booming sound come from here, and I came to check it out when I saw you." He could feel his voice wanting to crack and stutter with nervousness. Adrenaline was still pumping through his veins and his body was trembling from the earlier battle. Then just noticing it getting warm, and THEN just noticing the flame around his left hand. Wow, he needed to be more perceptive. He walked on over to him and felt his body shiver in joy at the warmth, not having realized just how cold he was. He let out a bit of moan from just how warm it was as his body relaxed, causing his trembling to quickly diminish. "Oh my god, this is so warm. Thank you.... So... um... have you been holding back? What's this about hero s-stuff?" Crap! He tried not to stutter, but one managed to escape past his lips! Maybe they wouldn't notice. ("804 words. 6,080 words in total.") SUMMARY PHASE.

The storm howled and raged like a feral beast. Gusts of wind blew flurries of snow all around them, though none could reach them due to the heat of Toshiro’s flames. He kept it burning steadily in the palm of his hand, enough to keep himself and his new companion warm while combating the encroaching cold. It wasn’t the greatest solution; it wasn’t even a good one. But he couldn’t think of anything on such short notice. He wanted to get himself and the boy out of harm’s way. It was the least a true hero could do. If he couldn’t help one person, how could he hope to save the world from danger? His companion finally revealed his name. Roderick. So… he wasn’t some malevolent entity who sought Toshiro out in the middle of the frozen wastes to bring harm to him or others. He was a boy, like himself, with aspirations to be strong and protect others. To be a hero. At Roderick’s question, Toshiro stared into the flames and avoided the boy’s gaze. That was the issue—what did being a hero mean? He was just making it up as he went along. This situation was a prime example of a rash action turning into a disaster. He’d used his ‘gifts’ to harm someone for no good reason. “Hero stuff.” He repeated Roderick’s words, more than a hint of amusement in his tone. “Yeah. That’s about what it’d look like to you. I mean… I’m not good at this at all.” Shiro sighed, pushing a hand back through his hair. “You’ve probably guessed by now. I’m not exactly… well… I used to be…” His words faltered. How did he explain this new life to someone like Roderick? A boy, around his same age, with his true flesh and blood body. He couldn’t understand, could he? “I’m… different,” he said. “I’ve been given a new chance at life, and I want to use it for the good of others. I assumed being a ‘hero’ was the best way to go about that. Now, I’m not so sure.” Toshiro glanced sheepishly at Roderick across the flames dancing in his palm. He probably sounded crazy. One minute citing the role of a true hero with unbridled passion, and the next, doubting whether or not it was even a role he could step into. Doubt. It was his fiercest enemy. “I’m sorry for attacking you without cause,” he said, glancing up at the stirring flurries above their heads. “I hate to admit it but… this fight was pretty pointless.” He thought about it for a second. “Maybe not COMPLETELY pointless. You’re pretty strong.” Strong. Fast. Able to adapt to circumstances. It was everything Toshiro wanted to be. Doubt pressed in on his mind, but Shiro forced it away. Maybe being a hero wasn’t figuring it out on his own. The wind died down as abruptly as it had begun. Toshiro glanced up. A dense gray cloud hung low overhead, blotting out what began as a bright, sunny afternoon. But there were no other signs of bad weather to fear. If that were the case… “Alright.” The flames disappeared as he rose, stretching and limbering himself up. “I feel I owe you a proper apology. Do you mind if… we finish training together?” Strong. Fast. Adaptable to the circumstances. Toshiro would be a fool to pass up this chance. His feet slid into a fighter’s stance once more, cold vapors swirling about his right arm and leg. “You’re right. I was holding back, Roderick. I wasn’t sure whether or not what I was doing was right. I lacked conviction, and as a result, I lost focus. So… I owe you a true fight.” The ground rumbled beneath their feet. It bulged upward, snow and ice snapping and cracking apart as a large pillar of ice drove him up into the air. His hair whipped about from the velocity of the rising pillar as his monochromatic gaze settled on Roderick below. The pillar rose to a stop, roughly three meters in height. “I’ll fight you with every last ounce of strength I have!” Toshiro dove from the tower of ice, hurtling down toward his foe. Ice sprang out from beneath his right foot, creating a winding spiral of ice as he barreled toward the ground, aiming at Roderick. A thick block of ice coated his right foot just as Toshiro reached him, leaping as he sought to slam a hard roundhouse kick into Roderick’s side—mingling his ice powers and physical combat for the first time in this fight. Adapt to changing circumstances. WC: 768 | 3,881 SUMMARY PHASE.

Roderick stood close to his source of warmth, quite enjoying the change in temperature. Having no idea just how cold he actually was until he felt the flames warm up his cold skin up. Actually, his clothes to be more accurate. The only part of his body expose was his eyes. He listened to the red and white boy... he listened to Shiro speak. It was the least he could do for the gift of fire he was bestowing upon him. From what he could understand, this Shiro guy wanted to be a hero. He could also tell he didn't seem too confident in his hero actions, either. Maybe he shouldn't have said 'hero stuff'. He picked up on some of his wording and tried to understand what he was trying to say. 'I used to be'? What did that mean? Was he trying to say he used to be a villain? He could understand trying to turn a new leaf. Or did the red and whit- gosh dang it, did Toshiro mean something else? "Heh, you're saying you're built different?" He asked, quietly chuckling to hopefully lighten up the mood. Not knowing how right he actually was. Roderick glanced at Toshiro back but in contrast, he was focused for once. "... Listen, this might not be my place to talk, but... you don't have to try and fight people to do good. You can start off small. You don't have to fight big evil guys yet." He couldn't help but let out a tiny chuckle out once again. "You can help out people, one person at a time. Not every hero is a knight in shining armor. You can be someone who's just helping people through a storm, or just helping some little girl get back a balloon. You don't got to start big. Don't put that much stress on yourself. Do the small things that count. Fighting godly entities will come next." Roderick raised his hand and patted the fellow self doubter on the back with a smile, chuckling once again. So ironic coming from him... He pulled his hands back into his pockets and continued to listen to the bo-... to Toshiro. It was hard to refer to them as their name. He had to work on that. Listening to him, he picked up on him blaming himself for the battle. "Hey, don't take all the responsibility now. Don't be a hogger. I was the one who attacked you first. I should be the one apologizing to you! Don't be selfish now." Continuing to listen, he felt a bit of joy at someone else calling him strong. Causing his smile to grow from under his mask. "Thank you for the flattery. I still don't think I'm too strong, though. You were still holding back. I won’t consider myself THAT strong unless we fight evenly. So no holding back, got it?!" He leaned in to emphasize the point of no holding back. "Oh? Seems like the earth isn't angry at us anymore." Roderick began to stretch, wanting to get that nice popping sound of his bones. Once he made those beautiful popping sounds on his back and knuckles, he turned to look at red and white- FU- "Sure! I don't see why not! You only gotta promise to not hold back on me. I'm not saying to beat me until I'm saying uncle, but... just not to hold out on me, okay?" Once that was clear, he began to bounce side to side, trying to numb the pain on his foot. It was already feeling better than in the fight. Roderick grew excited at the prospect of him taking this seriously. In... Toshiro's words, with conviction. He wondered why he used such fancy words and such a logical manner, but he didn't mention it. Banging his chest to get himself pumped up. He would need it with the ground rumbling under him. The ice pillar rising Toshiro in the sky, high, sort of, above him. This just mildly scared him, but also excited him. He felt like he was going against someone so much stronger than him... which... wasn't entirely false. "Come at me then! Look at me like a villain if you have to, so you can give it your all!" Roderick entered his stance, tense as he stared up at Toshiro with gleaming eyes. The fight has just begun! Roderick expected the same old-same old. The last thing he expected was for Toshiro to go Roderick's way of fighting and come straight at him with a descending ice kick! "Wait, WHA-" His body didn't have time to dodge, as he hadn't expected him to go physical! He tensed his arm to block the incoming kick, but the ice just bent his arm, partly destroying his block as he was sent a good few meters away from Toshiro, landing on his side in the snow. 'AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH- inhale... FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-' Screaming agony in his mind, he laid on the ground. The pain of the ice roundhouse coursing up his arm and to his side. He could feel like he could still use his arm. He forcefully moved his uninjured arm to push himself up on his feet, wincing all the while. His mind pounding from the sudden shock and pain. That's what he expected pain to feel like. The pain of a fight to feel like... and he hated it. He moved the arm he tried to block with up, feeling it still intact. At least it didn't feel like it was broken. However, he had a feeling there was going to be major bruising. He just pierced through his block! Roderick stared at Toshiro with enraged, and a hint of fear, eyes. He wanted to go over there and beat the breaks off him, but his body didn't want to feel that again. He stood there, arguing with his own body to move forward before his mind finally took over and forced himself to walk towards him. His arm motionless because of the pain. If he stopped now and gave up after all that talk, he would look like an idiot! He couldn't afford that. He had to keep going. Roderick knew if he kept going at this pace, Toshiro would easily predict his next attack. So, when he was about a meter away, he ran towards him and aimed a punch right towards Toshiro's nose with his uninjured arm! The hopes of giving him the same pain he was experiencing. He wanted pay back for his arm! Whether that landed or not, he would try to follow it up with his own round house. Trying to land it on Toshiros chest to hopefully knock him flat on his butt! He let out another wince of pain. The pain of his foot still there. ("1136 words. 7,216 words in total.") SUMMARY PHASE.

Toshiro had overdone it a little. He’d trained to utilize his ‘gifts’, but restraint was still a far cry away. Roderick hit the ground, tossing up powdery snow in his wake. Toshiro landed, smirking despite himself. He slid back into his fighting stance, not permitting a single second where his concentration would lapse. His combative protocols were active, scanning and processing whatever move Roderick would pull next. The young android was no longer going to pull any punches, inspired as he was by Roderick’s words. He’d never in a million years would have suspected he’d meet someone so similar to himself in the middle of nowhere. Fighting to completion felt like the only true recourse. A beeping sound filled his head. A warning symbol flashed across his vision. His core temperature was dropping. He’d used up too much of his powers in too short a span of time. More warning symbols heralded with an incessant alarm—energy was being diverted back to his powered core in order to conserve his strength. “Damn it… Not yet…” He didn’t want this fight to end this way. After reaching an understanding with Roderick, to end their fight because he couldn’t outlast his opponent… It was beyond shameful. Roderick was determined for a proper conclusion himself. He rushed forward, undeterred by injury, bearing a haste that revealed he, too, was nearing the end of his constitution. The straight punch soared at blinding speed. His automated defense system kicked in, forcing Shiro to duck aside as the straight punch whizzed past his head. The roundhouse kick was just as fierce; Shiro hopped backwards, his feet sliding through the snow. Toshiro barely dodged those attacks; he couldn’t keep up with Roderick’s raw speed, and if he were honest, he couldn’t match his physical might either. His core, if pushed even further, would soon enter a forced state of stasis—it’d happened once before during a stress test by his elusive creator. Better to end this now rather than later. Ignoring his instinct to dodge back, he rushed in close to grapple. He would snatch at the front of Roderick’s clothes, attempting to grab hold of the spry fighter. “I won’t let you dodge this time. This is over!” A cold burst of wind stirred at Shiro’s feet as ice sprung up from the ground like glimmering crystals. They swirled around and around, rising higher until their tips met above their heads, forming a small dome around and sealing both fighters inside. The sudden darkness would be disconcerting as the temperature rapidly dropped, icy vapor pouring off of Toshiro and filling the small space. If Roderick hadn’t managed to get away, he would surely freeze, forced to submit this contest of wills between the two would-be heroes. End of the line!

Roderick was pushing himself now. His body was hurting all over. His wounds now setting in because of that short rest he took. That was part of the reason he pushed himself so hard. If he stopped, his fatigue and all the pain would set in. Then he wouldn't want to ever continue. He panted, practically gasping for air now. Fighting was so much more tiring than he remembered. Despite the blood pumping in his ears, he was able to hear the opponent in front of him mumble to himself about something, but he wasn't sure about what. He couldn't at least tell it didn't sound good for his opponent. Was he tired as well? Hoping with desperation that he was. He had to cling to the thought that he had a chance of at least outlasting Shiro! Hey! He actually got his name right without correcting himself! Awesome! What wasn't awesome was what came next. He felt so much of his hope and will leave his body once they dodged his punch. That should've hit! How did he dodge?!? Even he would've had trouble dodging an attack as fast as that. That was practically inhuman reaction speed! Then, another piece of his confidence was torn when not even his kick hit either. Doubt set into his mind. A sudden shot of pain in his foot, and the loss of his footing, forced him to the ground. On all fours as he tried to regain his breath. This was too much. His body was hurt all over. He had to rest. Had to quit... quit... no... he couldn't quit now... he would look like an idiot! Fighting through his inner demons and pain, he forced himself to his feet and moved his hands in front of his face. "C-Come at me..." Forcing the air out of his lungs to say that. What he didn't expect was for them to actually listen and come at him. This guy was just full of surprises. His eyes widened, and he tried to move back, but the pain in his foot betrayed him. In addition, with just how fast this guy was. So fast that his body reactively tried to move backwards. But with that injured foot, he wasn't going anywhere. Roderick would've fallen backwards if Shiro hadn't grabbed him the sweater. He stared into his eyes with a shocked expression at his sudden blinding speed. Roderick moved his hands to his face, expecting a punch. He heard them shout out those words, and a sudden chill filled the surrounding air. He turned his head to look at the ground to see what he was doing. That's when he noticed the ice rising up around them like a cage. He turned to look at Shiro with a hint of fear in his eyes before everything went dark... 'Crap...so... cold... when... did it get...so cold?' These thoughts ran through the few seconds that passed as the temperature dropped. He could feel the freezing air coming off of Shiro and hitting him in the darkness. Not even his clothing would protect him here. He wanted to shout out to stop! That he didn't want to fight anymore! He was scared! However, he wouldn't do that. He wouldn't end the match like that. Not that his body would've even given him the chance. The sudden cooling helped relieve some mind-numbing pain he felt around his body. Sure, he could feel the ice crystals forming around his clothes, but it helped numb the pain. A surge of energy coursing through his body, making him feel renewed! The darkness was a familiar place. A place where you didn't know where you were. A place most were afraid of. For him, it excited him. Roderick looked where in the direction he thought Shiro's face was. He forced his now better feeling foot on the ground to regain his footing before swiftly moving his hands to grab onto, what he assumed was, Shiro's arms before pulling him into a bear hug. Holy crap, Shiro WAS shredded. Roderick held onto him as he ran with Shiro in front of him. Hoping to use him as cushion when he inevitably hit a wall. Hoping the impact of his shoulder and the wall behind Shiro would hurt him. Maybe thinking on the fly wasn't the greatest way of going about things, as he was practically holding dry ice against his body now. But he couldn't stop his plan of attack now. If plan "smash Shiro against a wall" worked, then he would hopefully pin him against a wall before attempting to knee him. Where that would hit, if it even hit, would be unknown to him. He was literally fighting in the dark. He would be screaming throughout this course of action. Depriving him of the thing he needed the most right now. Oxygen. That and body heat, but he could... probably last a minute or two more while in decreasingly low temperatures... hopefully. ("832 words. 8,048 words in total.") SUMMARY PHASE.

The dome of ice that surrounded them felt constricting, blotting out both light and most of their oxygen. The cold vapors pouring from his body filled the sphere with an icy mist that permeated everything; bits of ice began to form in their hair and on their clothes. Just breathing was a sharp, unpleasant affair as icy air filled their lungs and deepened the chill settling into their bones. It was a desperate ploy by an inexperienced fighter to win a conflict that had challenged him from the very beginning. Fighting stationary targets could never have prepared him for something like this. He tightened his grip on Roderick. Toshiro could only hope this ploy worked. Roderick had proved himself formidable in his own right, even if his confidence could use a sizeable boost. Toshiro could relate to that. More alarms in his mind as his vision turned red. A blinking warning symbol—system failure would be imminent if his temperature dropped any further than it already had. His hybrid power core would flood his system with warmth, expelling flames from his body if it came to that. But that would warm the space and melt the dome. Roderick would surely escape his grip. He couldn't let that happen—he wouldn't. He'd come this far in his struggle, and he wasn't about to lose this fight now. What would it mean if he just gave up? Did heroes give up? This fight had caused him to question the very notion of being a 'hero'. Toshiro wasn't sure if he were a hero or not, but he knew he refused to give in just when things got tough. Tightening his grip on Roderick's clothes, he squeezed his eyes shut as more icy vapor seeped out of his skin like rushing steam, filling the dome. "Just... just quit already!" Desperation filled his tone. He couldn't keep this up much longer. While his will was strong, his capabilities were another matter altogether. This body of his was still new; he wasn't aware of everything it could and couldn't do. Roderick didn't give up. With a loud cry, he gripped Shiro in a tight bear hug and lifted him off his feet. Shiro gasped in surprise, eyes widening as he was rammed hard into the ice wall. Regular flesh and bone would have crumpled from the force, but his metallic physique caused the ice to crack and snap. The stiff knee driven into his sternum was the final bit of force as it broke apart, sending Shiro sprawling into the snow. Fingers clutched at the snow, gripping the cold wetness in his hands. He pushed himself up only to roll over and flop onto his back. Slowly, warmth seeped back into his body, spreading out from the center of his being. He understood what that meant—the warnings scrolling across his vision weren't needed. Toshiro wracked his mind for a solution, but no matter what scenario he came up with, none of it seemed feasible anymore. He suspected the worst. Sure enough, he turned his head to his left, twitching his hand. Nothing. Not even a single spark. He was gassed. A misty cloud of breath escaped his lips as he took a deep breath. It wasn't necessary for him to breathe; a supplemental supply had been built into him to supply his brain. Old habits died hard. Right now, lying there spent in the snow, he felt quite human. He desired to keep fighting but had no strength left. A chuckle escaped him. "We must be insane, fighting like this." A pair of brown and blue eyes glanced up into dreary, overcast skies. "I don't even think I can... walk out of here." His head turned, staring over at his foe. No... his friend. "You win. I... concede the fight." Though his raspy tone was somber, his eyes were alight. For the first time in three years, he TRULY felt alive.

Roderick felt so suffocated in there. He didn't know the full extent of the strain this was putting on his body. It was a good thing he couldn't see in the dark. Plus the clothing covering him. If Toshiro could see in the dark, he would be able to see the pure will of a boy unwilling to give up. Give up in something he had already come so far in.
Roderick felt Toshiro tighten his grip on his shirt, but it didn't stop what happened next. If he had any oxygen left to spare, he would've shouted out a "NEVER!!!" before the loud crack of ice echoed throughout the dome of ice. If he could properly think, he would've been over come with shock at somehow breaking the ice. He stood at the newly formed opening in the dome. Standing tall and above the fallen android. He let out a gasp for air as the stale air in his lungs escaped for the new, fresh air to enter. Spit escaped and wet the part of his mask where his mouth was. The exhaustion hit his body all at once from just standing still. He had to keep going before it got worse. Forcing his legs to move, he walked towards his fallen opponent. His mind forcing his body to keep moving, for if he stopped and fell, he wouldn't get back up.
He was preparing another attack, Shiros words barely processing through his dissociated mind. All he was able to make out was some sounds about this being insane and him not able to walk. Roderick stared at Shiro with wild and focused eyes. Ready to wail on him through sheer will. He pulled his leg back for a kick when he heard those two words. "You win."
His kick slammed down into the ground, kicking up snow before its powdered form snowed to the ground.... He what? What did he say? His mind began to return from its dissociated state, his eyes regaining life. Through heavy, labored breaths, he asked "... You what?" The exhaustion hit him like a freight train. His legs were shaking from the mere act of him standing. Trying with all his might to not collapse. His fists still shaking from the fight. His lungs burning as he desperately sought to quell the burning sensation deep in his chest. He could hear the blood in his ears pounding, with the veins in his head ready to pop.
What did he say again? He... won? This seemingly unstoppable force gave up? Why did he give up? Whatever the case, thank GOD! He was so tired! His body was leaning back and forth like an idle animation. If he decided to relax his body, he would've collapsed right there infront of Toshiro. He thought he would've never given up. But... in all seriousness... how? Why? How did he win? Why did Toshiro give up? None of this made sense. He of course tried to win in the fight, but... he didn't actually think he would! At best, he thought it would just lead to a stalemate or they both just decided to stop fighting! Not to a victory! Definitely not in his favor! The longer he stood there, waiting for an answer, the more the effects of the battle began to take root.
Roderick noticed the ice on his mask. He could imagine that he looked like a popsicle. Letting gravity pull his head down, he noticed the front of his jacket was utterly covered in snow and ice. His pants also facing a similar situation, but not nearly as bad as his jacket. It honestly looked like a mini ice bomb and landed on him and this was the aftermath. Which, now thinking about how he set off that last attack, wasn't far from the truth.
His mask had been a huge limiting factor for him. It made that dome seem like he had been at a way higher elevation than he actually was. He wanted nothing more than to just take it off and feel the cool air and beautiful sunlight to hit his exposed skin. That precious air to come in without a limiter. But he couldn't. Not in front of his... well... what was Toshiro to him now? He wasn't an opponent anymore. Definitely not an enemy. So what was he? He let a few more rushes of his blood pass by his ears before finally deciding on how to view him. Rival. Yeah, that was a good term. Rival. This guy was his rival now. He would surpass Toshiro and beat him fair and square. One on one. Even after this victory, it wasn't enough for him. He had that flame, but he didn't use it in the entire fight except to just warm them up. If he didn't beat him without Toshiro using every tool in his arsenal, it wasn't a true victory. But back to his original question... what did he say again?
