Snow Shenanigans
The children had been having fun taking their sleds down the snow hills. Some of them would ask Grisha to push them and even ride with them, but the hills weren’t big enough for the giant. He wanted to ride something bigger. Tobias and Lena had stood around with all the other villagers, watching the kids play in the snow. She had seen the boredom on Grisha’s face and walked over to the giant to step around his tall form. She playfully peeked around his side and gazed up at him with a smile.
“Hey. Why aren’t you having fun Grisha?” she asked.
The Saiyan glanced down at her and then sighed, rubbing his neck uncomfortably. “Hill small. Grisha want to ride mountain,” he stated, pointing up at the enormous slope. Lena followed his finger with her blue eyes, and her eyes grew in terror at the sight.
“Oh…oh my. They’re um…they’re just kids, Grisha. That would terrify them,” she explained.
The Saiyan sighed again. “Grisha knows…”
Lena fell silent and watched the children lob snowballs at each other. He looks so sad. No one would ride down that mountain. He’s crazy, she thought. Her cheeks flushed red and she grasped the white, fluffy scarf that wrapped her neck, raising it up to hide her face below her eyes. “I…uh…”
Grisha’s brows raised as his grey eyes lowered to her.
Lena continued to clutch her scarf as her face grew redder. She didn’t want Grisha to be sad. “I will…ride with you…I guess.”
The Saiyan’s eyes widened as a rosy color flashed on his own face. He couldn’t believe what he had heard. A broad excited grin expanded on his face as he uttered a mischievous laugh that made Lena look up at him uncomfortably.
Top of the Mountain
Lena was on her hands and knees, tucked into a ball, and panicking, “No! No! Grisha. I can’t. I’m sorry!”
Grisha was setting the wooden sled down and digging its runners into the ice. He hadn’t stopped grinning so largely since she had agreed. “It okay Lena. Grisha protect,” he assured her.
Lena raised her face from her arms to stare down the swooping slope. There were trees! There were natural ramps! There were boulders! They were going to die! “No! I can’t! Grisha, please!”
Grisha faced Lena with his hands on his hips. There was a disappointed frown on his face. He inhaled deeply and exhaled, his shoulders rising and falling. “Okay,” he said. He sat upon the sled and crossed his arms.
Lena looked up at him and she could see that Grisha was upset. She rose upon her knees and sighed. “I’m sorry Grisha. I just wanted to make you happy, but I’m scared.” She walked over and sat on the sled next to him. She patted his back.
“Grisha wait. Lena go,” he told her. He wanted to watch her return safely down the mountain.
Lena hesitated to leave. She stared sadly at the snow with him. She felt so bad leaving him up on the mountain alone. She leaned against his side and said nothing as the two just watched the tumbling snow. She noticed a tree slowly creeping passed her and frowned. Is that tree moving on its own? she wondered.
The sled was suddenly creeping over the ledge and that was when Lena realized they had moved. “OH MY GOSH! GRISHA!” she screamed.
The Saiyan’s arm locked around her as the sled tipped and started racing down the mountain. Grisha grinned as he grasped the side of the sled and turned to properly ride it. He had Lena between his legs, clutching the material of his pants in a death grip. “GRISHA! GRISHA YOU JERK!” she shouted before she just started to unleash a terrified scream.
Grisha was laughing the whole way, dropping a boot into the snow to shift the sled around a tree. When they approached a ramp, Lena fearfully turned toward him and locked her arms around his neck. The sled caught air and went soaring. Lena was screaming, Grisha was howling, the sled started to fall, and it landed firmly without breaking. Grisha continued to clutch the sled and laugh, while Lena remained locked around him. When the slope evened out into a plain, he dug his heels into the ice to slow the sled until it stopped.
Woah!
Me next!
The children had raced over to crowd around the sled they had seen come down the mountain. Grisha had calmed his laughter and patted Lena’s back.
“See? Lena safe,” he told her.
Lena slowly unlocked her arms from around him and stared angrily into his eyes. Her face glowed a bright red mainly from having noticed she was straddled across the giant’s lap, but she wanted him to believe that it was mostly from her anger. “You! Bastard!” she shrieked.
She snagged his cheeks between her thumbs and fingers and started pinching and pulling on them. “I thought I was gonna die! I have never screamed so hard in my life! How could you? How could you!?” she yelled.
Grisha brought his fingers to her sides and started to tickle her. Lena squealed, released his face, and recoiled away from him. “Sled fun Lena!” he defended.
Lena in a fit of giggles reached down to the snow and lobbed a snowball in Grisha’s face. “Take that!”
All the children around her made a low, Ooooooh…
She hit Grisha in the face with a snow ball.
Lena glanced blankly around at all the whispering kids.
She has awoken the snow giant…
Everyone run!
One child ran over to take Lena by the wrist and lead her away as Grisha stood from the sled and threw his arms wide.
“RAAAHHHH!” he bellowed into the cloud-filled sky.
“Battle positions!” one of the kids yelled.
Lena smiled once she realized she was part of some village game. All of the children had mobilized against Grisha, making snowballs and lobbing them like artillery at the Saiyan. Grisha was making snowballs the size of basketballs to harmlessly bomb the kids with. It was just another snow day in Kousetsu Village.
