Cabin crouched down on the dock and stared across the lake. The shoreline had obviously sank in recent years, leaving a bare strip of eroded land around the edges. Perhaps this was why the surrounding fields seemed dry and barren. He let out a sigh and stood up, peering towards the main outlet river, hoping to see any sign of trouble. He looked across the lake again, but it was a bit too wide to see clearly to the inlet and his mood dropped when he realized he would have to saddle one of those damnable riding birds to make his way around the lake.
The bird stable was less a stable and more a hollowed out shrine that Cabin tied them up in when he got tired of being pecked. Given that the Ostrich-Chicken had always been only slightly nice to him, he decided it best to saddle her and ride.
The other side of the lake was calm but the Saiyan found the problem immediately; the inlet river was letting through only a trickle of a stream, not nearly enough to keep a lake of this size filled year-round. A short walk into the woods revealed.. Well, not woods. Only a few meters into the tree line, the tree line disappeared, replaced by an open clearing of only gnawed tree stumps, "Damnable beasts, once again ruining my day." With gritted teeth he kicked off the Ostrich-Chicken and tied her off to a tree. Stomping his way up the nearly-dry riverbed, he muttered all the ways he was going to cook whatever beasts had troubled him this day.
After a few minutes of walking he didn't find any creatures or monsters, but he did find a mighty pile of sticks that seemed to be the source of the river blockage. Easy enough, kick the sticks and the water should flow. Cabin cracked his knuckles and decided to go about this in the only way he knew how; overkill and dramatic. He cupped both of his hands over his head and began to charge the ki into a dense little ball of power.
His screaming must have disturbed whatever monsters called this structure home, because before he could even finish charge, he heard a call from behind him, "Say... Whaddya think ya' doin', pal?"
Caught off guard, Cabin broke the ki stream and the ball disappated in a sparkle of energy. Before him stood a unit of a beaver, at least six feet tall and wide, and backed up by no less than a dozen beaver-monsters of varying fur colors. "I'm getting rid of this mess that's clogging up my lake. Have you see in it? I can't even put my feet in the water!" Cabin's eyes widen at the realization of what he had said and he shot a glare towards the closest beaver-monster, "Forget you heard that. Now, remove yourself from this area, large beaver.. thing, or you may be harmed by my power."
Cabin spun back around to face the pile of wood and began charging a blast once again, but was almost immediately shoved forward from behind, "We ain't no beavers, were the Chapa, and I can't be lettin' ya' destroy our home, now y'hear?" Suddenly the beaver was struck down and Cabin stood over him, Chapa, beaver, it matters not. Remove your trash from my lake, or else." With a roll, the Chapa recovered and rose to his feet, "Ya seriously think tha' hurt, kid? Heh, I been training for the World Martial Arts Tournament since it been announced. Gonna win me that money and buy this here lake for m'family."
Cabin yawned and held up his hand, palm extended and fingers flat, firing a quick series of ki blasts at the monster, "Quite a compelling tale, Chapa-beaver, but you seem to be forgetting that this is my lake." When the Chapa easily slapped the ki blasts aside, Cabin was more than a little annoyed. How could such a beast stand up against him? Cabin loudly cracked his knuckles, "If that's the way it has to be, then.." Cabin simply smiled and crossed his arms. The Chapa put his guard up but it wouldn't matter, the first series of blows were barely visible, just humming energy that lashed out from Cabin's aura as he concentrated on delivering the maximum amount of punishment to the upstart monster. Without Cabin moving even a finger, waves of energy radiated out from his body, stirring up the dust and detritus on the forest floor. The only signifier that a psychic attack was approaching was a slight sparkle in the air as the energy coalesced into a form capable of delivering a heavy impact. Since with was Cabin's first time using it in combat, the strikes delivered were less than optimum and came slower than if he had simply used his own fists, but the Chapa it seemed, had only rudimentary skill with ki manipulation and the invisible assault seemed to be more than a little intimidating to the rest of his clan. Still, Cabin had to hand it to the monster, no matter how many times it was struck, it still tried to put it's guard back up.
When the Chapa finally went down after a full minutes of sustained assault, Cabin chuckled to himself. "I'm in a giving mood, Chapa-beaver. Remove that obstruction," Cabin thumbed to the dam then pointed out across the lake, "And I shall give you sanctuary under me. I may even allow you to rebuild your... 'home' so that my beautiful lake will refill and bring some life back to those blasted lands." The Chapas all huddled closer together, one brave soul stepping out to retrieve his fallen comrade and revive him with some cold water. Cabin could glean their thoughts, only the surface level emotions and desires, but he could tell they were torn. They wanted to stay at the lake but already viewed him as some petty tyrant. In more of a good mood due to the catharsis of a fight, Cabin decided to sweeten the deal, "I'll even train that one to actually fight. I should think with the way things are around here, we may need a spot of security."
The Chapas were quite hard workers and exactly what those failing grounds needed in the passing months. While they still held Cabin in some contempt, he had tried his best to show that he was not in fact a petty tyrant, but a Saiyan worthy of respect. However, his boiling Saiyan blood didn't make it easy but he found a small measure of ally- and companionship in the Chapa warrior, who called him Noka. Despite his rather hilarious body proportions, the Chapa was exceedingly quick and flexible, and brought something akin to a drunken style from his own practice. He had started to develop into a formidable opponent, capable of rolling off even the most devastating of hits and getting back up, when trouble stirred and Cabin's all-consuming distraction with repairing the mansion came back to bite him.
The Chapa working to mend the dock were the first to notice and they sent a runner to find Cabin training in the courtyard. Reports of disturbances in the water and a high-pitched wail, "The damn ghost." Well, he still wasn't fully convinced it wasn't just some shapeshifter here to shake him down for money. Earthlings were like that, they loved a show when just action would do the trick. With a crack of his knuckles, he set off to the small docks that served the mansion, promising whatever was there waiting for him was going to feel his fist, his actual fist, this time.
The dock workers were all in a kerfuffle, all standing in a small huddled crowd as the Chapas seemed want to do when they were nervous. The quickly pointed out the disturbance in the water, which seemed to be growing in intensity whatever it was, "Happened 'bout an hour ago, Boss. Didn't think nothin' of it, thought it was just a fish or somethin' kicking up mud, but then it started hollerin'! Reckon it must have been a woman 'cause I ain't ever heard no fish scream before." The beasts, despite their appearances, were timid creatures who only wanted to be left alone to build. Cabin nodded, "I thank you, Chapa. Fear not, Noka and I will send the intruder back below."[/b] Noka, who seemed to suddenly appear behind Cabin, nodded in agreement and spoke to the group of Chapa in their native tongue. He had made some attempts over the months to learn the language, but it seemed he didn't have the vocal structure to speak it and would have to be content with only understanding it. Not that it matter all that much, the Chapa spoke the common tongue well enough and in most cases seemed to prefer it, reserving their native language for formalities, songs and stories. Maybe it was just their way of keeping some tradition in an ever-changing world that seemed eager to never leave them be.
Noka had stepped to the edge of the docks and was carefully watching the bubbling water when suddenly it shot forward, making a beeline directly towards the docks. Noka had trained hard over the months, and he steeled his resolve for the battle to come. The Chapa crouched down into a stance reminiscent of the Saiyan Fighting Style, but it looked funny on his long and square body. It was not a stance however to take lightly. Just like his teachers, Cabin had drilled the reflexes of a Saiyan into the Chapa. Constant assaults, day in and day out, at unexpected times in any possible place kept a person on edge, sure, but it also honed their reflexes to be ready to fire at any possible moment and insured that when they did, it was powerful and extreme.
"I knew it! Ghosts my tail, Noka!" Cabin shouted over the sound of raging water as a limbed catfish rose out of the water with flair. It's skin was a mottled blue and it seemed to be wearing a sort of traditional maiden's kimono, but it's head was that of a catfish and it had multiple quiver whiskers that seemed to be probing the air. It soared through the air, posing in a manner that suggested a flying drop kick, and with a flourish and a crack, Nuko spun in place and struck the monster with his tail. The catfish skipped a few times across the surface of the lake before sinking under the waves. "Do not drop your guard. I believe you only made it angry." Cabin said to Noka, dropping into his own fighting stance. Soon the frantic bubbles returned, followed by a long wave that shot directly for the dock once again. When the water broke, it wasn't the catfish this time but a large column of ki energy that careened straight for the pair. While Noka had grown leaps and bounds compared to his barbaric fighting style from before, he had yet to gain a handle on ki manipulation on anything other than himself to performal superphysical feat, but if he were to be a Saiyan's student, he would have to learn fast. Cabin stepped up beside him and together they went through the motions of Cabin's Shanty Surprise. Hands at their sides, palms facing outward and gathering ki. Clapping the hands together to stimulate the energy even further, then stretching it until it forms a field around both hands simultaneously. The most crucial step came next, infusing the technique with destructive energies, in this case shocking causing arcs of electricity to dance of Cabin's green ki and Noka's blue. With a howl, Cabin began lobbing halfmoon-shaped crescents of energy at the fast-approaching column with Noka quickly following suit.
Their combined energies at first only slowed it down slightly, but after a prolonged assault they managed to dissipate the powerful ki wave just before it reached the docks. Mist from the lake sprayed the on-looking Chapa and some of them voiced their amazement. "Reckon it'll come back up?" Noka asked, shaking the water from his fur. "They never stay down. Worry not, you'll have plenty more to show off for your clan." Cabin's silent ki aura extended outward and quickly honed in on the catfish, who had been trying a more stealthy approach by coming at them from underneath the docks. He looked to Noka and pointed a finger downward. Noka nodded and dove into the water below, his powerful ki-enhanced tail propelling him at speed toward the catfish.
Cabin and the rest of the Chapa waited, quietly watching the still water for any sign of the two. Minutes passed before a tiny well of bubbles rose to the top, followed by a massive explosion of water and Noka sailing gracefully(as gracefully as a Chapa could at least) through the air. His ki-infused muscles easily absorbed the impact and he landed confidently to the soft cheers of his clansmen. "Ain't gettin' up that time, tell you what."
