The last time Tiger Lily foraged mandrake, she came across a fennec fox vixen who was doing the same, except when she uprooted the rare ingredient, it did not scream at all. It was revealed that Rosemary, the Fennec Fox Beast woman, had an affinity for harvesting mandrakes. Like most encounters, Ty befriended her immediately, and soon enough an entire green house was built next to the sapling of might treehouse to grow mandrake in. If anyone but Rosemary picked up a mandrake, it would shatter the structure to pieces, so no one else was allowed inside without her supervision. Eventually Arashi would warm up to this fluffy furry eared and tailed woman who would watch over him if Cayle or Ty had to leave on errands. While the immediate area had everything they needed away from society, there were some things the couple could not do remotely, and they both had families to take care of on separate occasions. It was nearly winter, Rosemary needed extra help with the greenhouse to prepare for it, since the mandrake would be dormant for the season. Ty contacted Lilith to assist with the preparations, she was the only person who was an expert, and delicate with a rare ingredient. Outside of the green house, was a pile of mulch the gardening robot had been gathering from raking the leaves from the forest, Tiger Lily was holding gardening gloves and stared at Arashi’s long nails. In order to cover the mandrake beds with mulch, they needed to be extra careful in surrounding the leaves with the mulch, using gloves especially since the dragon boy had sharp claws. The gloves would be ripped to shreds, the red head mused as she stood by wearing a dark grey zip up hoodie and black matching track pants with black rubber gardening boots. “Is there any way you can use your powers to freeze the tips of your fingers so you can put on the gloves? Or will it melt inside the glove?” Ty tilted her head to the side curiously, “I am sorry Arashi, I am not that familiar with how magic works, apart from that it's effective and equally mysterious. A friend of mine who is an expert in frost magic will be arriving soon.”[380] Lilith Nevermore Arashi

It wasn't hard for Arashi to warm up to the fenic woman. He took very simple pleasure in holding her tail. It was fluffy, and warm, and he enjoyed holding it, even nuzzling into it. He wanted to pet her ears too, but those were hard to reach.
When it came to her question about his nails he hummed looking at them. Focusing on them for a moment they became shorter. Normally his nails were a couple of inches long, and as sharp as knives. But he could reduce them to being about half an inch long. Which was much batter at least, though they were still crazy sharp. However, he took Lily's advice, capping his nails with a layer of dulling ice, leaving the edge of his nails sparkling with a thin layer of ice. "I think that should work. And no, they won't melt. Not unless I want it to melt." He said lifting his hands to her so she could slide another pair of gloves onto him. He was still wearing the Shu onesie he had conjured earlier, but he had the hood pulled back to show his blue hair and horns. He wondered why he could not just do all this gardening with his bare hands though. He didn't care if his hands got dirty, and he could probably dig with his hands as easily as someone might dig with a shovel.

Speak of the devil and she shall appear... A small, black dot soared through the sky, rapidly approaching the greenhouse. It swooped down, circling around the building before finally coming to a stop at the entrance. Now, on a closer look, one could see a small, young lady sitting sideways on a floating broom. Quite the eye-catching sight. Dressed in a long, dark robe and donning a wide-brimmed hat, she was the very image of a traditional witch, straight from the pages of a storybook. Long, mauve hair framed a delicate and deathly pale set of features. Crimson eyes gleamed coldly, looking down on everything beneath her nose. Which, at the moment, was everyone. She did enjoy feeling tall for a change. Leaning lightly, Lilith directed her broom to drift gently over to Ty, stopping to hover in place. Despite the weather growing colder by the day, she didn’t seem bothered even in her usual, thin attire. Fire magic kept her warm, but her expression was as frigid as always. Her voice chimed like a silver bell. Clear, pure and oh so very cold... “Greetings, Ty. You summoned me?” It was still a silent struggle not to call the red-haired teen ‘your highness’, but the witch had been getting better about it lately. Maybe eventually she would dare to be... friendly... with the warm-hearted ruler of the tree house. Or maybe not. There were still rigid social rules to follow. Before long, the noblewoman’s attention drifted onto the stranger present. She quirked a brow, regarding the odd creature with mild curiosity. “Oh, I was not aware that you kept pets.” Her inquisitive gaze swept the creature from head to toe. Horns and claws... And was that... A trace of frost magic, perhaps? It piqued her interest. “What breed is it?” ...But not her respect. In her eyes, a fascinating monster was still just a monster. Arashi revealed his magic abilities just in time for Lilith Nevermore to see it with her own eyes, he raised his hands, and Ty gently placed the garden gloves on his small hangs with a special child sized pair. Capping his nails was a wise choice, since the gloves did not get ripped up, it was important to keep their hands protected as the mulch may contain poison ivy, or thorns from roses since it was raked up from the forest. “It will keep your hands safe while handling the mulch and the mandrake detest being touched by anyone but Rosemary so we need to be careful when we cover the top soil near their leaves.” Ty explained to Arashi, then turned around to smile at Lilith, “Thanks for coming. It is good to see that you made an excellent broom to help you travel easily. Does it have a name? I guess Nevermore could not translate everything I said about what we needed help with today in full detail.”When Lilith asked if the dragon boy in the Shu onesie was a pet, Ty nodded in disagreement, not even the livestock were kept as pets. Dogwood Lily was also not considered to be a pet but rather a member of the Lily Clan family. When the witch asked about the breed, she realized she never asked Arashi what he was exactly, the subject of being different races was not something she commonly discussed. “Arashi is under my charge until he grows up to be on his own.” Ty said calmly, then turned to look over at Arashi briefly then met Lilith’s gaze, “He recently hatched without his parents when Cayle and I found him in the woods. Cayle suspects he arrived shortly after the mysterious temple collapsed in the ocean, he is not exactly from our realm on earth, so Arashi is one of a kind.”Perhaps Arashi would be able to enlighten the witch of his origins since he had not explained that part of himself in detail. Rosemary emerged from the green house, realizing she forgot to tell the gardening robot to stop, in a panic she screamed “STOP!”. Technology was a bit confusing to the vixen, she lowered down to meet its optic lense level, then calmly spoke, “That is enough for today, little robot. Please resume normal gardening functions with the vegetable patch. Thank you.”The long fennec fox ears flopped in relief as she was able to successfully order the robot Cayle had programmed to continue its usual routine. With a wave of her gloved paw she greeted Lilith Nevermore, this was the first time she met the witch, but she recognized her from the enlarged vellum paper printed illustration in Ty’s room. The large fluffy tail began to wag behind her blue jumper as she was excited to have a team assist her with the mandrake project. “I am sorry about the outburst earlier! Technology is so weird!” Rosemary cleared her throat then looked at the witch on a broomstick who was looking down on them, “Ty mentioned you’re an expert at mandrake Lady Nevermore. It is nice to finally meet you. After I met Tiger Lily in the woods foraging for mandrake in the wild, we decided to start growing them in the greenhouse. This is a large scale project for us, so we need a delicate touch to spread this mulch on the soil beds to imitate the winter season early, so the mandrake can be dormant with the upcoming winter, otherwise if they do not go dormant they will be extra cranky and destroy the glass structure and die. So it's important to retain control of the situation rather than let our hard work go to waste.”[627] [1,007] Arashi Lilith Nevermore

When the witch spoke from above calling him a pet, he bared his teeth in a vicious grin that was far from friendly. His eyebrows twitched at being called an "it". He already wanted to bite this woman. Insulted the moment she opened her mouth to speak past him to Lily. He honestly debated attacking her. His wings were still too weak right now to fly, but he could probably reach her if he jumped, or conjured platforms of ice. He imagined she would be quite a bit stronger than he was, but he didn't particularly care if she was. If he attacked the point would have been to show her he would not stand to being treated in such a way.
If not for Lily, he would have. If it had been just anyone else he would have attacked her right then and there careless of how it might play out. But he forced himself to relax. However his silent fury was evident, golden-yellow eyes watched the witch. Eyes slit with anger as he kept her in his sight, glaring with focused intensity.
"I'm a storm dragon. My primary domains are ice and lightning, though I am still too weak to make use of my power over lightning just yet. My power over ice manifested first." He said simply, having been biting his tongue up until the point he answered, nearly drawing blood with how badly he wished to lash the witch with his words, meaningless as it might have been.
He was angry enough that he didn't go for Rosemary's tail. He instead walked to stand beside Lily, gently holding her arm. "What she said made me angry. Calling me a pet, and treating me like a thing. If she calls me a pet or disrespects me again, I am going to attack her." He said looking up to Lily. It might have been a lot of pressure to put onto what he considered to be his poor surrogate mother. But he wanted to be honest and express his feelings at least. If Lily didn't want Arashi to do something stupid, or that she might dislike, then she either needed to make sure that Lilith would not treat him poorly, or that he would have permission to do what he thought was right. In this case, make his will and desire known to the witch that while he might be partially obedient to Lily, if Lilith did not respect him, then he would show her the same respect, if less for how she seemed to look at him as a lesser being, a pet.

It took tact to handle a haughty noblewoman. One had to choose the right words, while avoiding the wrong ones. Ty had gotten especially good at it. Lilith smiled smugly when her friend noticed her brand new broom. She nodded with a pleased hum. “Ho hum~ But of course. It is hand-crafted from the finest materials.” What she neglected to mention was that gathering said materials had been a massive pain... She had to climb an ancient oak for a branch and brave a field inhabited by mischievous faeries for the straws. Even the hemp rope holding it together was magically woven. She had not yet named it, but such a fine method of travel did deserve a proper name, no? If only to make the summoning spell more accurate. The friendly girl’s guess was met with another nod from the young noble. “Correct. Some words translate poorly into corvus, so Nevermore has taken the habit of simplifying messages.” Her gaze swept the greenhouse and the servant who emerged from it. “But I can make an educated guess...” The shout stopped her commentary. She watched, mildly bemused, as the vixen struggled with technology. A smug scoff left her lips. Hmph, served her right for trusting a toy. However, the compliment melted the icy gaze. She puffed her petite chest proudly. “Indeed, I am an expert in all matters magical.” And humble about it too... She listened to the fox girl’s spiel, nodding along in agreement. Mandrakes could be rather troublesome plants if mishandled. Ty was right to invite her. However... Beneath all the pleasantries, Lilith was still a wicked witch. Some people just tended to forget that... So when the pet dared to talk back, her icy attitude froze over again. She briefly considered conjuring a muzzle. Only her respect for Ty stopped her from teaching the childish creature some manners right there and then. It would have been awfully rude to damage someone else’s pet. Still, the threat didn’t go unheard. Or unanswered... “You would not survive the attempt.” Her simple retort was spoken with all the warmth of a winter storm. The crimson eyes lit up with an ominous gleam. There was an unnatural chill in the air... Words: 370 | 370 Natural PL at start: 12,251 Tags: Ty Arashi

“It suits you perfectly, Lady Nevermore.” Ty grinned as she acknowledged that the materials were of the finest quality, as it should be since Lilith deserved to have nice things at a teenage age, so she can grow up to be equally as refined.
When Arashi explained his origins, Ty was nearly floored with his identity, his magic abilities were already wonderful, but a storm dragon? While there were dragons on earth they were not nearly as humanoid. In the Pilaf comics, a pig and a cat could transform into anything, so she figured he had a true form apart from the one he held at present. It was then that he reached out his rubber and cloth gloved hands and pulled on the red headed teenager’s arm explaining his feelings were hurt.
“It is just a misunderstanding, Arashi. There is a saying that goes: sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.” Ty ran her fingers through his cerulean hair gently, avoiding his black nibbed horns hidden under his locks, and smiled, “If you still feel like fighting later, I am sure we can arrange something, so you can both practice your magic in battle, okay? Lady Nevermore is a tough witch and just like you she wants to be even stronger so she can rebuild her homeland. We promised Rosemary to help her with the mandrakes so we will do that first before the cold snap rolls in.”
With a quick nod of assurance, she quickly put on gardening gloves from inside her jacket pocket, picked up a giant ball of mulch from the pile, putting it in a wheelbarrow, and rolled it into the greenhouse; while looking over her shoulder to make sure he followed her all the way to the back of of the glass structure which overlooked the base of a mountain. The green house itself was about 30 metres in length with raised planter box beds full of mandrakes that Rosemary foraged in the wild over time.
“The leaves are sensitive, so are the roots, so we need to at least give the leaves a little bit of room surrounding each plant carefully. Can you do it, Arashi?” Ty placed a ring of mulch from the wheelbarrow, around the first mandrake plant, the one next to it was even smaller, so she encouraged the boy to do that same.
“Pardon!” Rosemary straightened up her fennec fox ears, “My name is Rosemary. I realized I did not properly introduce myself Lady Nevermore.” A blush tinted her cheek and continued, “Since you have an affinity for magic, I assume covering the beds with the mulch could be easily done with a wave of a wand? I never met a witch before, you are definitely, most definitely the first, and I am honored!”
As the vixen spoke, her fluffy tail began to wag excitedly, and then her ears relaxed slightly to their normal position, “What I was hoping to accomplish today, was for snowfall inside the green house, I feel it would be the best way for the mandrake to begin going dormant, if you could use your frost magic to imitate an early winter. Can it be done?”
Rosemary’s eyes glimmered with high expectations, almost pleading with the teenage witch, while her tail waged slowly as she waited for Lilith’s answer. [560] [1,567] Arashi Lilith Nevermore

"A misunderstanding? She may as well have just called me a dog, I don't think I misunderstood what she said at all!" He complained, even while his head was being stroked, puffing his cheeks in a pout showing his obvious annoyance. "Also, that saying seems like a total lie. Based on my blood mother's memories people would fight and die over words all the time. All it took was a few words insulting one's pride, and staining one's honor to start wars. Sometimes even less than that." He mused. "And then there is magic. Words have power. But of course, I don't think it takes magic to hurt someone." Then he considered what he thought might be a more accurate saying. "I think it's more accurate to say that sticks and stones may break my bones, but words only hit as hard as you let them." He nodded lightly to the thought. "Which still doesn't help me when this woman calls me a pet." He said glaring up at Lilith again.
"I'll fight Lilith any time, I don't care if I lose or even die, I refuse to be looked down on! I might be weak right now, but one day I will be stronger than even my parents, and show anyone who dares to underestimate me their folly!" He breathed out, cold mist flowing from his lips, which also sparked and popped with a bit of electricity.
But he finally grunted and turned away from Lilith to go do what Lily wanted. Being asked to do stuff with the mandrakes he was a little flustered. "I don't know... I've never done anything like this before." But he still tried to do it like Lily wanted, trying to copy what she did with the larger mandrake with the smaller one. Making a ring of mulch around the plant, and trying to follow along with her instructions.
He also heard what Rosemary asked Lilith, and growled, though it was mostly at himself this time. Because he didn't have the control required to do what Rosemary wanted himself. He was really going to need to practice with his powers later. All he had really practiced so far was freezing stuff solid. Even though he was a storm dragon, he had yet to attempt conjuring any storms.

An important part of dealing with nobles was addressing them properly. Ty and Rosemary had grasped that quickly. Arashi, however, made a grave mistake... Repeatedly. First he dared to call her a mere woman, then dropped her first name as if he ever had the right. Immediately the witch snapped back, in her usual manner. “That is Lady Nevermore to you, peasant.” She had no intention of respecting an uppity brat. His bold claims were met with scorn. “Hmph, mark these words, mongrel... Whosoever stands against me, stands briefly.” She had not misunderstood a thing. No, she understood perfectly well that this foolish creature didn’t know its place. But there were other ways to remind fools than simple violence... Lilith parked her broom by the greenhouse entrance and stepped inside after the others. She watched the amateurs fumble with the precious plants and shook her head. Clearly they weren’t gardeners. And never would be, at this rate. Her attention was drawn to the only person passing for an actual gardener. “Charmed, I’m sure.” Politeness naturally earned politeness in return. She basked in the praise, nodding where appropriate. “Manipulating something as simple as soil is child’s play to me.” Earth may not have been her primary element, but she hadn’t slacked in her studies. As for her actual primary element... When the vixen asked about frost magic and imitating an early winter, the noblewoman didn’t even hesitate. “Of course it can be done. Observe.”The witch walked to the center of the room and grabbed the wand hanging by her belt. She brought her hands up, like a conductor preparing to lead an invisible orchestra. A calmly recited incantation drifted from her lips. “I call forth the gentle kiss of winter... May the air grow cold and the wind turn white...” With every word, the temperature dropped ever so slightly, until breaths turned visible. A ring of frost crept from her feet, painting a huge snowflake onto the ground. Waving her wand gently, she conjured white clouds that drifted up to the ceiling. “Snowfall.” With one final flourish, she brought her hands down. Tiny, glimmering flakes started dancing in the air. Lilith turned her attention back to the trio. Holding her head high, she awaited their amazement and praise. When her gaze stopped onto the so-called storm dragon, she allowed herself an incredibly smug smile. A mocking, little scoff slithered past her sharp teeth. “Heh.” This was her reminder, a display of absolute superiority. Power was nothing without control. And she would not let him forget it. “Of course you’re not a pet, Arashi.” Ty interjected but he continued fluctuating the emotions he was feeling expressively through words to describe how he felt. Her ocean blue eyes stared blankly at him as they walked through the greenhouse, “I would never lie. I always speak from the heart. If you are angry when casting your magic, does it yield the same outcome when you are calm and focused? Cayle said that magic is similar to martial arts because of the thought process, you have to calculate your opponent’s next move, and you have to anticipate the best course of action.”
It seemed it was his pride that was hurt, which was unusual, but it probably had everything to do with his powers being new to him as he was to earth. When he said he would fight to death, Ty nodded in disagreement, and added, “You’re wrong, Lilith would never kill anyone, it’s more valuable to be taught a lesson.”
Apart from Lilith the only potential tutor was Kiryu, the strongest magus that could rival Cayle in power, but he was occupied with hunting down a Tuffle Pirate who kept his companion white bengal Tiger in chains as well as other creatures and people. The teenage witch was the only one capable of teaching Arashi frost magic and anything else that would be useful in developing his powers properly in order to remain in control.
The burst of electricity was absorbed into the air as the dragon boy turned to occupy himself in helping Rosemary with the mandrake planter boxes. The plants were not fazed by the mulch, as long as the leaves remained untouched, so Ty sighed in relief.
“Good. You did it perfectly, if we keep this up, we will be done in no time.”
Rosemary finished placing all the mulch on the mandrake planter boxes with the help of Arashi and Tiger Lily. As promised, Lilith Nevermore made it snow, using the finest control of magic to cause the wind to chill, the glass frosted over the condensation in the air, and it looked like winter inside. The vixen could hardly control herself, she nearly cried at the sight of it, her dream of growing mandrake in a controlled domestic environment meant her project was nearly successful by next spring.
“Amazing!” The vixen implored, quietly clapping her gloved hands together in appreciation, given that the mandrake were slowly becoming dormant for the simulated winter.
Tiger Lily stuck her tongue out to eat a snowflake, then laughed softly as it was important not to make too much noise in this situation, and looked over to Arashi.
“Lady Nevermore could be your rival in the art of magic, if you follow her instructions in mastering your storm dragon abilities when she tutors you, then by next winter you can make it snow for the Mandrakes in the greenhouse. As a noble witch, she requires the best manners, which I am sure you’re more than capable of Arashi. I believe in you.” [504] [2,071]

Arashi considered whether his emotions impacted his magic at all when Lily asked about it. He hummed before shrugging. "Well, my magic is only just beginning to show. But I do not think that my emotions have any particularly powerful impact upon my powers. Not beyond perhaps slight empowerment and lack of control maybe." He considered. "When my blood mother used magic, she did so easily, regardless of her emotions. If she wished to create a blizzard she simply had to wish it and it would come. She wasn't angry very often. Very little bothered her or my father in her memories." He said as he thought about it.
Hearing what Lily had to say concerning Lilith, he was tempted to mock the woman and call her a liar for saying she would kill him when Lily said she would not. But grimaced when Lily suggested that he show Lilith his best-mannered. And then glowering at the icy woman when he turned back to her. She called him a peasant and a mongrel. She insulted him and upstaged him by demonstrating her perfect control of magic. She may as well have stepped all over him and his pride. His tail lashed with annoyance and frustration. How could Lily be on this woman's side? She wanted him to show her manners, which meant respect. But so far he didn't consider her worth much respect.
Though considering that Lily wanted him to be good, he swallowed his pride. He almost choked on it but managed to at least attempt speaking with some respect. Whatever respect he showed Lilith was out of respect for Lily. "Please teach me, Lady Nevermore." He asked through clenched teeth even as he continued to glare at her. No doubt the vile woman would get a kick out of it. Even if his respect for her was thin, barely apparent, it was clearly significantly more than he wished to show her. If not for Lily he absolutely would have attacked her. Instead, he was doing his best to hold back and contain his pride.
"I have a question though," He stated with somewhat less reluctance. "Have you ever killed before?" He asked, his tone much more calm and considerate. His animosity towards her cooling for the moment at least. He asked because he was curious just how well Lily really knew the witch. Lily said that Lady Nevermore would never kill him, yet the woman threatened that he would not survive a serious encounter with her. If she was as strong as he suspected she was, which was many times stronger than he was right now, she could easily kill him. Not that the thought of dying bothered him much. In a way he had already nearly experienced death through his blood mother's eyes, experiencing it through the memories she passed to him in her final moment as he was tossed through the void and into this world.

Lilith’s pompous posturing was somewhat disrupted when she caught Ty’s comment. Her eye twitched and her smug smile wavered. Disbelief painted her pale features. “W-what...?” It was a question mostly to herself, wondering if she heard that right. Would... never... kill...? When she realized her ears weren’t playing tricks, she directed a baffled stare at the red-headed bundle of pointless positivity. “Do... do you live in your own little fantasy world...?” Yes, yes, a foolish question. Of course the strange girl did. She realized that as soon as she asked. It was the only reasonable explanation for the oddball’s seemingly endless optimism. Before the wicked witch could properly protest, more utter nonsense assaulted her ears. Okay, no, this went beyond a mere misunderstanding. Hastily she interjected. “Now, wait just a moment. Rival implies a similar level of skill.” She aimed a sharp point at the so-called dragon. “This pest could not rival me even if it trained for a hundred years.” She was about to further ridicule the whole idea of her tutoring anyone, least of all a mouthy child, when said child stepped forth. Even through clenched teeth, his plea managed to give the noblewoman a pause. She blinked. Once. Twice. Huh, so the mongrel could learn manners and speak properly. How unexpected. Ty’s influence truly was fearsome... Pushing the protests aside for the moment, Lilith actually stopped to consider the question. Had she ever killed anyone? “Hm, a curious question...” As with all evil, the devil was in the details. She cocked her head and tapped her chin, having an almost casual air about her. “If you are asking whether I have ever driven a blade through a person’s heart or something equally boorish, then... No, I suppose I have never killed anyone.” That air quickly vanished as her tone grew colder. “I have servants and spells to do such menial tasks for me.” Indeed, she never hurt anyone. It was her magic that killed. She was going to set the record straight, right here and right now. “Make no mistake, child. No matter what Queen Ty tells you, I am a wicked witch feared for a reason.” Granted, she had not done many... or rather any... wicked deeds since joining up with Ty, but... That was beside the point! The self-proclaimed wicked witch puffed her chest, regaining that pompous air that had deflated earlier. “As for teaching you... Why should I? What is there for me to gain from sharing my arcane knowledge?” Despite the haughty tone, the question was honest. She was not a charitable soul, but making a trade was a different matter altogether. Then again... What could this creature possibly possess that might interest her? “Nothing in this world is free. Life is not some fairytale musical where you sing a little song and your insipid dreams magically come true. So either prove your worth or...” She leaned closer, eyes gleaming ominously. “Let. It. Brilliant green eyes looked over to Lilith when she asked her if she lived in a fantasy world. “Ah...that would be nice. Maybe someday we can live in a fantasy world! We just have to hone our skills and kick Piccolo Daimao to oblivion. We have to train first! Be braver than you have ever been!”
Tiger Lily watched as the two magicians talked to each other, she nodded her head at their main points, and then while still hunched over to the ground she made eye contact with Arashi who was still very small in stature.
“Sometimes you have to treat people with respect so that they can respect you in return. Not everyone has the opportunity to be raised properly by their parents to learn these lessons from. You--were born without your parents so you have to learn everything on your own but I am here. So is Rosemary, Cayle, and now Lilith once she comes around. Be patient and surely you will be rewarded, alright?” Tiger Lily smiled at the dragon boy with radiant enthusiasm in her eyes.
After a while everyone had snow piling up on their heads, the chill was hardly noticeable, but Rosemary started visibly trembling while she held her fluffy tail to stay warm in this environment.
“Let’s step outside the Greenhouse before we become snowmen!” The red head chuckled.
Rosemary was the first one to go outside, nearly falling over from the strong ice magic, any longer and she would have turned into an ice pop. Fortunately being near the ocean, brought a warm breeze, and she was able to stabilize her internal temperature. Tiger Lily followed after to dust the snow that piled on the fox woman’s head, then did the same to her own head, and then removed her gardening gloves while waiting on the others.
Lilith Nevermore was willing to train little Arashi if he proved himself to her first or provide her with some other kind of payment for her efforts. Upon reflecting on it for a while, the teenager was positive Arashi would be able to showcase his magic for the witch, but then if he was still struggling there had to be another method.
“Lilith,” Ty began, “If Arashi does not prove his arcane abilities to you outright, to your standards of magic... What if we split the mandrake harvest, next spring? Rosemary’s mandrakes are different from the ones in the wild, she was growing them in pots, and her special care produces a totally different molecular structure than the wild ones. The whole reason she wanted to do a larger scale of her gardening abilities, is so that we can have more of it, because it was so good. I wish we saved some for you to try.”
Rosemary blinked, she was a little saddened that she had to split half her future harvest, her giant fennec ears flopped, but when she looked over to Arashi by next year they would be able to keep the full harvest once he mastered is magic to make a false winter inside the green house.
“Since it's for Arashi. I will allow it!” Rosemary wagged her massive tail in agreement.

Arashi had to agree with Lilith on this point. The witch had basically admitted to killing people, if not ordering other people to kill people for her. Which to him was as good as saying that, yes, she had killed people.
Yet Ty seemed to completely ignore, or sidestep what the witch was admitting to. He wasn't sure how to feel about that. She was a good person, but she would ignore what a friend would do even if she seemed to disagree with what they were doing? It was very strange to him.
Lilith had answered his question at least, and she had even called it a "curious" question. Which he felt came close to almost being "interesting". But he was pretty sure the witch was being careful to avoid giving him any praise she felt he did not deserve and was trying to maintain negative, or neutral tones to avoid giving him the wrong idea. Or at least that was his impression. She was pretty blunt with her thoughts, but he thought that to be a woman as powerful as she was, in the position she was in, she must be very clever too. Though she annoyed him, he supposed he had to accept that she had her position for a reason. He would not be afraid of her, even if she threatened his life, but he supposed he'd best not waste his life in the attempt either.
When they moved outside to discuss potential lesson costs, it seemed that Ty wanted to give him a chance to prove himself. Which he appreciated, but he doubted that the witch would give him a fair chance to prove himself, or rather, her standards were going to be too crazy for him to ever meet.
He was less than a week old, and his powers had only just begun to manifest. He could manipulate ice and seemed to gradually gain some power over electricity, but he did not yet possess the power to call in raging storms as his parents did. Of course, his doubts did infuriate him slightly, because even though Lilith was a cruel and harsh woman, he could not help but want to impress her, even if he didn't like her. If Ty liked her though and trusted her to some degree, then he supposed he should at least attempt to be civil. Even if her attitude made him want to attack her and rip her throat out with his teeth.
"Half your harvest?" Arashi grimaced at the offer, especially after seeing the way Rosemary's ears had fallen flat for a moment. "If she'll agree to that I guess, then I'll do my best, but I think that I should have to pay the cost myself..." He sighed. "I'm not that strong yet, but one day I will be." He said looking at Lilith.
"If you have some test, or task I could perform to prove my worth, then I'll take it and let you decide if I'm worth your time." He agreed simply with some slight reluctance. "Whatever I feel or think, I'll set aside. I'll do my best to do as you ask, or command. Becoming stronger is important, maybe more important than anything I might feel." His expression became calmer as he looked to the witch, waiting to hear what she might say.
He was expecting a flat rejection though. He didn't imagine she would have much interest in him or his potential simply because of his attitude towards her. But if she did accept him anyway, he would set that aside. He would simply have to do what she told him to the best of his ability, and with little to no complaint, regardless of how unfair, or mocking she might be towards him.

Briefly, the Wicked Witch considered trying to correct Ty one more time, about how she had no intention of playing nice with this mutt. Very briefly. She realized the futility of the idea soon enough. It would be akin to telling the sun not to shine. This girl had the most irritating tendency to see the best in everyone... Even when it clearly wasn’t there! Most bothersome... Following the suggestion, Lilith stepped outside. The warm atmosphere failed to thaw the icy heart though. In fact, white wisps of magic started circling her gently, cooling the air around her to a more... bearable temperature. Cold never bothered her anyway. It was the heat she couldn’t stand. When the eternal optimist offered an idea, the gloomy lady actually stopped to ponder. Mandrakes did have many uses indeed... And a farmer’s gentle touch made a big difference too. She cast an idle glance at the greenhouse and stroked her chin. Half the harvest... Quite the hefty offer. Her cold gaze drifted back onto the bo... mutt. What, pray tell, did the Queen see in this fool that she would go this far? To promise treasures that took not only time but also great effort? What were those eyes, which always gazed at daydreams, seeing right now...? Even more surprising was that the mongrel actually dared to try proving its worth. Lilith’s gaze narrowed. The sharp teeth gritted together. Tch, such nerve... Clearly it didn’t understand its place yet. But it sparked an idea... An awful, wonderful little idea. Slowly, her tight-lipped frown twisted into a small, cold smile. “So be it.”Against all odds, the Wicked Witch agreed. Yet in the same breath, she hurried to pop any misconceptions like they were soap bubbles. “Do not think for a moment that you earned this chance by your own merits. I am merely humoring her highness.” Yes, that was it. She wasn’t doing this out of personal curiosity, most certainly not. She didn’t care what Ty saw in this mongrel. Not in the slightest. Lilith raised her hand before her eyes. Sparks of magic crackled across her palm. “Servants unseen, craft me the tool that I desire... Magic Materialization.” With a zap of magic and a puff of smoke, a small glass bowl appeared in her grasp. She practically shoved it to the foolish challenger. If and when the boy understood to accept the bowl, the witch explained the rules. “Your task is to fill this bowl to the brim with the finest flakes of ice you can muster.” Her smile sharpened with a smug edge. “How you accomplish it is entirely up to you and your, hmph, abilities. If the flakes overflow or melt, you have to start over.” Clearly she didn’t expect anything from hi- ...It. From it. “You have five minutes.”The task may have seemed simple enough. Deceptively simple in fact. Beneath the surface, however, it measured many things. Any fool could spew out freezing gusts or toss icy blasts. Power without control was worthless. It took talent, creativity and practice to control one’s magic to the utmost degree. To create and control, rather than to simply destroy. This test would reveal plain as day if the so-called dragon had any potential whatsoever... Words: 544 | 2,145 Natural PL at start: 12,251 Tags: Ty Arashi
