Despite having only been on Earth for less than a year, Cayle had taken to its traditions strongly. Some were not too different from the traditions he had been raised in, and the children of Ensalada both celebrated 'Halloween' and Karikshuri, blending the old traditions of both worlds into something new. Which was why on the day of Halloween, the children of Ensalada and the surrounding islands in the 'Salads' chain had all come to trick or treat through main street Ensalada Island, and were now gathered in the White Fang Inn to hear stories of halloween. At first, Cayle attempted to worm through it by telling ghost stories of which he had seen movies of, except the children had seen some of the same movies. He may have given up, if it was not for his rotund, tanned skin human friend and ally, Carlos Alfonso, tagging in. Instantly, the plot of 'Jochiro vs the Jiangchi Queen' began reworked and reworded into a children's appropriate scary story. Such was the benefit of having good friends, Cayle supposed. You couldn't have a story for every occasion, and the Saiyan children especially didn't need any more real horror in their lives. [199]

Sure, Halloween was fun – but, Waka had learned about it much too late. If she’d been a kid, then it probably would have been a favourite holiday. Nowadays, though… no one wanted a 7-foot thug knocking at their door in the middle of the night. Or at least, definitely not anyone she wanted to associate with. So, she’d become a responsible adult. People called her glutton sometimes, yet she still obediently put a bowl of her best sweets by her apartment’s door. Not that she ever got many visitors, but… it’s the thought that counts. And the festivities – they weren’t for her, either. In spite of what she’d gone through in life… she didn’t enjoy all that spooky stuff! Sure, the pumpkin business could be cute now and then, and bats were good company; but all the rest… err, it was a bit too much for her! She was no coward, but she didn’t like pranks. Not these kinds of pranks! Getting her tail pulled, having people jump out at her; and all that crazy stuff technology and magic can get up to. She didn’t want any part of it! Magic was bad news… shouldn’t be messed with so lightly. Otherwise, people ended up like her, huh? So, she celebrated a little differently. Usually a party – if she was invited – and usually a low-key event at a shop she liked… and then, home. Stay up for a bit, maybe watch… well, no actually scary movies, but maybe some kids’ stuff she missed out on in the Northern Lands. Then snooze, and get up early; bright and sparky! All part of the plan…! ”C-C’mon…! Just get in th’re already…!”The last brick placed. Finally, perfection. It’d been a trial – manoeuvring two shopping carts at once, watching her paycheck just about vanish, hauling it all home, and now trying to store it all… s-she’d have more space at the manor cabin, but as if she’d get it there in one piece! But, seeing it all together… it was worth it. A year’s supply of sweets, almost all at half-price… Really, the best part of Halloween was the aftershock.

Halloween was not something that he remembered celebrating while living on the estate. Even as a kid, he never really got it. It was one night a year where people dressed up and ran around, sure, and they got candy, okay; he understood the basic facets of it. But, what he didn't understand was the why? Then again, it was, maybe, not that. Perhaps it was something else; more than likely, as his sister had once told him, it was because he was too shy to go outside. There were a lot of kids out there then. They all wore costumes. Their parents wore costumes too, albeit not quite as elaborate as the kids, and they accompanied them, door to door, smiling as their children ran up to the door, knocked, and spouted something about smelling feet and getting treats, and get treats they did.
But, Hotaru did not participate. Another reason for his lack of interest was because he was always busy. That was another factor. Whenever the time came to go out, frolic, maybe make some friends and have some fun, on Halloween, it was time for another training session.
He couldn't remember every Halloween. He could only remember so far back; all the way back to when he was five. He was training then. He was training with a wooden sword then. It was sized for him, so it was easier to grip and to swing. But he was training then.
Now, as he stood outside of his apartment, he felt out of place. There were kids running past. Some of them stopped, looked at him. One of them grinned, "Nice costume!" The little boy pointed at his clothes then pointed at his face, "The make-up is really realistic."
Make-Up? It took him a second, only to realize the kid was talking about his scars, "Oh. It's not make-up. It's real." He commented, but the kid had already lost interest and ran off.
"Hey, sorry about that, here," The kid's parent, a tall bearded man dressed up as a bear or something, Hotaru couldn't tell, handed him a candy bar and walked off, chasing after his kid to keep an eye on him.
"Thanks?" He looked at the candy bar then peered over at a kid eyeing the bar in his hand. He didn't appear to have much in terms of candy; in fact, his pumpkin shaped bucket was almost barren. "Here, kid, take it." He held it out and tossed it into the boy's bucket.
"Thanks, mister," The kid was dressed up as a robot; he had used cardboard boxes painted silver. "Happy Halloween!" He grinned up at Hotaru then waddled off; having a hard time walking normally due to the cardboard tubes around his legs and the boxes around his feet, soft little clomping thuds signaled the young robot's departure.

They say that Halloween is a night where demons, goblins, and worse walk. They say it is a time where the dead may rise and where witches scoop up bad children – they say all of these things and yet they are only partially true. On this Halloween, Koma was walking his children through the streets of Oolong City, trick or treating. The only security detail he bothered with was a small group of retainers surrounding the children and himself out of sight, and his own blade.
Not that he felt there would be any issue for Ma-te the Younger, whom was dressed like a Pirate, or Kokeshi, who was dressed in full samurai regalia, or Anise, Ginger, and Cinnamon? Like matching kimono wearing princesses. Four Young Nobles dressed in the stereotypical garb of their station, pretending it was a trick or treat costume, and a young would-be pirate.
The mere idea made Koma smirk as they walked, in part because the Daimyo of the Dandelion Clan had already cleared the big threats in the district a few hours earlier. His spiritual sensing abilities and his own skill didn't just make him a capable samurai after all – but a monster hunter as well.
There would be no Demons, Goblins, or Worse interfering with his children today, unless it was his children themselves interfering with one another.
