Zaru had been trying to get a hold of this whole ‘inner calm’ thing. Uncle Amon had mentioned it, and there were plenty of other ‘helpful’ members of his family who liked to annoy him about how he should try and get a hold of it. He felt as though he was perfectly calm, but he got the impression that wasn’t what they meant. It was something about letting go of pride and the need for possessions. Despite that, he still felt like there was something to be said about the pride of a martial artist. If you didn’t have any in what you did, what was the point of doing it at all? He could understand the material possessions bit, though. He didn’t see a lot of point in that either, at least not for him. Money paid for food and lodging, but he had little use for it otherwise; if he ever found himself in a spot where he really needed it, he had his methods of raising it, but so far, he hadn’t found himself a spot like that.
He sat there cross-legged, his arms crossed as he listened to a waterfall behind him. He, Kiryu and Cade had been trying to carve out some place; it was Kiryu’s idea, but at least the actual area was a good enough place to try and meditate. Zaru’s eyes remained closed, and he wondered how much closer he was now. He hadn’t ever had anyone to chase, but since meeting Kiryu, he’d finally had an objective. He knew that he was no match for the guy right now, but he’d become one - more than one, if he had his way. Besides, there was the World Martial Arts Tournament coming up in a couple of years. That was less time than you would think, at least when it came to the kind of practice required.
Zaru’s eyebrow twitched for a moment. This wasn’t working. He was pretty sure that he wasn’t going to find his inner calm by sitting around in front of a waterfall. How could he just sit here when he had practice to do? That was where he was in his element most; training and focusing on a challenge, and then confronting that challenge. For this time in his life, that was going to be martial arts, perhaps it would always be so. He opened one eye suddenly as a wave of energy hit his senses. Zaru could feel someone approaching, not a sort of ki that he could name immediately, but it was vaguely familiar. Someone that he’d met before. It was likely recently too, considering how quickly he was able to tell that it was familiar.
The martial artist uncrossed his arms and stood up, standing on a rock in the middle of the stream below the waterfall that he’d been using as his seat. He stood still and waited, feeling the approaching Ki still coming towards him. The blank stare still remained on his face as he looked right towards whoever it was coming to meet him.
