Before the grumpy witch could reach her destination, a familiar figure flew in front of her. She refused to recoil from surprise, but still squinted at the red-headed stranger. A venomous insult was already forming on her tongue... However, the barrage of increasingly odd commentary disarmed her. She blinked, unsure where to even begin. There was that weird word again... Internet. She had heard it somewhere before, but that... incident... had been nothing but trouble. Eventually she had to relent. “I... happen to be seeking the castle, yes.” Squinting intensified. “Talk like what, exactly? A proper lady? Hmph, I have always spoken like this. It runs in the family.” She stopped herself there, before anything too personal slipped out. It was just that... she rarely had a chance to talk about herself properly.
The castle exceeded even the noblewoman’s high expectations. An inspiring dragon statue decorated the ceiling. Living paintings lined the walls. There were even ancient picture tomes telling the legend of the noble Emperor Pilaf. Some of the works even depicted Baba Yaga, the most powerful witch who ever lived. Briefly, Lilith’s eyes twinkled with pure, child-like wonder. Truly she had found an amazing library full of ancient truths. She couldn’t wait to research all the material available... Clearing her throat, she quickly smothered any warmth and wonder from her features. “Ahem, this is a somewhat remarkable collection...” Her gaze briefly visited the two peasants in her presence. “You two seem rather knowledgeable of these ancient events. I suppose sometimes looks can be... deceiving.” It was the closest thing to a compliment they would ever get.
Meanwhile, however, a pair of mischievous eyes watched from the shadows. A toothy grin gleamed. In a blur, a hairy silhouette dashed at the distracted witch. Before she even realized what was going on, she got tackled to the ground. “What the- gah!” ...Aaaand bonked on the head with what felt like a wooden staff. Right then, perceptive people could catch a glimpse of the culprit, a monkey boy in a martial arts gi. He snatched the downed lady’s left shoe and rushed off, laughing gleefully as he went. As soon as Lilith realized what had just happened, she glared daggers at the fleeing thief. “Why you...! Get back here this instant!” She scampered onto her feet and took off in pursuit. Unfortunately, alone she stood no chance of actually catching him...
...But was she actually alone with this particular problem?
