Misaki frowned, sitting inside the tidy room Juniper had set aside for her. With a short flick of her fingers, she attempted to keep her focus neat. A terror beset her, as she felt her yellow flicker up again. Not terror for herself - Misaki Kazamiya wasn’t much afraid of anything, or what would befall her. She was strong, so she would leave a mark on the world, more likely than not. If she wouldn’t, then that was just nature’s way of saying the Kazamiya line simply wasn’t meant to go far in this world.
She’d taken off her shoes as she sat, cross-legged, in the middle of the floor. Not for the first time, she mentally thanked Koma for his astronomically good timing with teaching her how to properly fight and control her energy…
Before she’d started working with him, even something as simple as an aura was beyond her. Whilst she’d thought for the longest time she understood just what a battle aura was - a condensed shell of Ki for the wielder to use as they saw fit… She’d never actually done one before meeting him. She was surrounded by ki in combat, of course - as were most people - but she’d never actually held it in one place. She was simply spewing out energy like an over-active fountain, and the energy didn’t come back to her the way a fountain’s did.
At the end of the day, she was basically just tipping the bucket over and using whatever got on her hands to splash with…
It had taken her a while to properly form it into an aura, and a lot of Koma’s training had helped her figure it out. She’d remembered feeling both proud and surprised when she’d concentrated the energy together and felt a much stronger field wrap around her.
Still…
The strength of that golden aura around her, back when she’d first discovered how to tap into her own energy, was much different than now…
She’d just recently stopped herself from self-destructing out in the farms, and rushed in after handing the farmers their equipment back (She seemed to recall hearing one of them joking about how quickly she’d given up on being a farmer, before the other one pointed out the amount of plowed earth she’d supplied them). It took a lot of work and energy to master this new strength… even more to harness it. So far, she’d only managed the barest bit of control - enough to keep herself from falling apart, but precious little else. Instead, she threatened to fall over every time she tried to use the smallest amount of energy for almost anything. Simply hearing her plants threatened to cause a potentially fatal spike, unmix the brilliant green back into it’s heavy yellow and Electrical blue.
Misaki groaned, as she tried again. Fear spiked her heart - for she’d already put several flowers she’d adored near the window. Part of her retreat to this room was out of respect, but part of it also was as a method of self-control - for she’d never allow herself to cause harm to the flowers of this room. It was completely impossible.
Instead, she focused her energies, harnessed her ki, and narrowly guided herself through the abyss once again.
This… was bad. Misaki knew this power was incredible, but she still couldn’t even properly harness it. If she couldn’t at least tame this power, she wouldn’t be able to properly handle herself - she’d simply explode. No true guardian, just a foolish gardener…
She focused, breathing in as she looked straight to a nearby candle. The enticing flame danced in front of her, and gave her a point of focus, as she tried again. No matter how she tried to force the energy before, it hadn’t worked, but maybe if she was just a touch more forceful-
Misaki’s eyes widened and blinked open.
What had she said earlier?
Tamed.
That was the problem.
Misaki had this entire time been trying to force this new blue, along with her yellow, to follow her will. She’d gotten very used to considering it an extension of herself. For Misaki, ki moved the same way as a limb told to move, or an eyeball rotating to look at something she found interesting. That simply. That easily.
This was not her limb, though. The azure energy around her was given to her, but it didn’t belong to her. It belonged to the tree of might itself. Thus, it was a powerful ally but only an ally
Misaki took another deep breath, steadying herself before focusing properly. She’d been treating this like something she could brute force - something she could take down with strength. That was one of Misaki’s main approaches to things. She overpowered them. She beat them down….
She couldn’t beat this down. That wasn’t the purpose of this energy. She was meant to empathize, harmonize with it. Not crush it under her heel.
With a deep breath, Misaki focused. On the tree, on the power vested within it, on the strength she’d been blessed with and on the strength she’d alrays had.
A memory came, unbidden…
’Hello, little plant-friend.’
The Green-haired child was so surprised at the sudden cry that she tripped over her little pink dress, landing on the teddy bear she’d stolen from another child and hitting her shin.
The child groaned, disliking this. Had someone else come to take the bear from her? That other girl had so many. She showed them off all the time, and it angered Misaki to no end. She already had so many bears! What’s more, she had so many friends, too! And her mom…
Her mom hugged her every time she came to pick her up from school. Even though Misaki’s didn’t.
So just what was so wrong with her getting just one to hug?
The green-haired child’s head ooked up, and angry tears streamed down her face as she realized the bear’s arm had ripped off slightly. Now her new friend was already a mess, and she’d just met him! This wasn’t fair! Golden energy rippled dangerously around her hand, and Misaki wondered if… maybe it was just time to make a far bigger accident than a ripped-up bear, if she was going to get in trouble anyway! They all deserved it, anyways!
Turning to see whatever kid had earned her wrath by causing her trip-up, she saw…
A daffodil on the window?
“...Where did you go? You can’t hide from me!” the small child growled with a ki-ball at the ready. She’d make the creature burn
‘I did.’ the same sound came from the daffodil.
‘Why are you angry?’
“I… what?” Misaki added, looking to the daffodil, surprise across her face.
‘You must be a very attentive human. Humans don’t normally have the ability to hear us flowers’
The small girl jumped back with a yelp, one pink shoe snapping as she scrambled to the other side of the floor. Strong she may have already been sure she was, but she was still a child, and flowers talking when they shouldn’t was terrifying, as the ki vanished into mist.
‘I’m sorry.’ the plant continued, moving ever so subtly as it spoke. ‘I’m used to being unable to speak, so when I saw someone who could speak to me, I just jumped at the chance. It’s very lonely being a plant inside here.’
The girl put a thoughtful finger to her lip. That did sound pretty lonely. No one really liked the ‘demonic child’ at the school, because she scared them, but at least she did that. When she spoke, people had to listen to her, because she was strong, and they knew it. Even the teachers were scared of her sometimes. But this flower, if no one could even hear it? That sounded terrible.
“D… do you have a name?”
“I think humans call me a daffodil, but I don’t need anything more special than that. Do you have a name?”
“I-I’m… I’m Misaki. Misaki Kazamiya.”
---
Misaki breathed in, taking a deep breath, and sang. Rather than her normal humming, she simply sang, as an eggshell of verdant green energy encapsulated her.
“Oooo ooo ooo
Oooo ooo ooo~”
Misaki’s voice sang out like silk, as the power warmed around her, the sound of a windstorm around her, and yet her voice rang out.
“...They come to see the fire burning in your heart”
The Florist slowly stood up, a beautiful smile on her face.
“They want to witness, this love from the start”
Misaki got up, continuing to sing, even as energy crackled and burned around her. With a smile, she put both of her hands to her side. Not forcing the energy. Not pushing the energy. Not crushing it.
Accepting it.
Loving it.
Just as all things wanted to be loved.
“They want to know it's true~
There's someone in the world, lovely as you~”
Misaki’s smile grew brighter, as the eggshell broke, and green flames wreathed her body, before finishing the verse.
“...When you smile the stars align
Flower of the universe…”
Misaki’s smile faded into one of quiet, loving acceptance, as the flames died down, and green energy streaked around her like the glitter of a diamond.
“And child of mine…”
