Bryce had gotten his break, and had been given some time alone with his thoughts for a while in an attempt to reassemble them, maybe even to get back what he had lost. If what those guys had said was true and he was back from the dead, so to speak, he should be able to remember how he did even if that feat would take him a while. Luckily though, his years as a martial artist remained with him and as such he was more than happy to be alone with his thoughts, to just let them run rampant and maybe get him some clarification on all of this.
He remembered.. nothing yet, but maybe there was something to be found in his current situation, like in the constant pounding of his head. For all he assumed right now this was something brought on by Brandon, but what if all he did was dial up the sensitivity of Bryce, and that throbbing feeling had always been there? Maybe that had something to do with the way he died, the pain in his head. Maybe he was on to something, but this all was just an assumption at the moment, and without Bryce remembering it he would never be able to answer that specific question. And in turn, if he couldn't answer that, he would have to doubt Brandon along with everything else he had said.
Every few minutes there was a click on the intercom to let Bryce know he was still being watched, but as soon as the intercom would click on it would click off again too, leaving the cyborg alone with his thoughts once more. And it wasn't that bad to know that he wasn't alone even though it did not harm him in any way, physically or mentally, to be alone for long periods of time. Yes, there was the interest in other lands, wanting to see what they were and how their people were treated, their customs and basically everything mildly worth it to view in terms of statues, natural rock formations.. old and forgotten tribes..
That thought suddenly sparked something in Bryce though, it brought back the memory of him having done something like that before. Sightseeing. He could remember a bus, being on one and being driven around a city, and even exploring beyond the borders of it. And with that came the memory that he, as stated by Brandon, died. Or at least made a fall to the ground, hitting his head hard enough to be the last thing he remembered.
So that was figured out now, but there was still the rest of his 'previous' life to figure out. The martial artist bit had been something to just stick with him always, and now that he knew how he died there was a huge open door to figure out the rest of his past.
Except he was in a place focused on figuring out the future of his life, how things would end up. And like Brandon had said, he wasn't the bad guy and did not lie to Bryce, certainly not now that he had remembered the moment of death. So what was the harm in going on with these tests?
Still, he was taken aback by the confirmation of actually having died, yet here he was. And else, if they could do this, bring people back, why didn't they do this with others? Now, the answer to that question was already given in that they did, but they all lost their minds. So was this something he was doomed to live? Luckily he was stubborn enough to even despite that give it all an honest shot, keep his wits about him and a focus on the path ahead.
Maybe this was what Brandon had been counting on this time. Or well, that supervisor of his. That he would be too stubborn to actually let his mind get lost, forcing himself to go on even if the risk was greater than expected. It was the way he had been taught things though.
So finally he got up from his seated position, his head hurting less and less due to him being used to the pain as well as him being used to power through, and looked over to the camera on the ceiling, waving for some acknowledgement and soon after hearing the click of the intercom.
''Yes, Bryce?'' The voice of Brandon sounded through the static.
Bryce inhaled and took a moment for himself before speaking. ''I heard mention of others like me. Why? What happened?''
Brandon audibly inhaled but was scooted away by the other person with him, who sounded several times more angry, yet came across more patient than before, almost as if he had lost some discussion in the time it took for Bryce to gather his thoughts. ''Bryce.'' He said. ''I am Doctor Modona, I am overseeing your tests.''
In the background Brandon was heard arguing, but he was ultimately ignored by Modona continuing. ''Yes there were others. Still are. They're still out there without ever having the realization that you supposedly just had, judging by the nature of this question.''
So there were others like him, out there, who didn't know they had to die to get there. ''What issue is not knowing you have died and come back in some freak experiment?'' Bryce asked.
''They don't know they have died, correct.'' Modona answered. ''You seem to have a good grasp of your vocal systems already. Good.''
..there were systems for his voice now? How bad did that drop bang him up? And just how embarrassed did he have to be because of it?
''But they don't know they're alive either. They think they're dreaming and as such, can do whatever they please. They were in the same place as you, once. Tied up, chained down in a room with no way of escape.'' He continued. ''But they did. They fooled us, they're out there doing god knows what. That's why we have installed in you the means to stop you if needed, to halt your progress if we deem fit.''
Bryce pondered for a moment before crossing his arms in front of his chest. ''To shut me down when I fix your errors?''
An audible laugh from the intercom was heard. ''No, no, our systems to keep you in check are removed when we deem you well enough to function like a person again. What you do from that point on is on you. We're just.. giving you a second chance.''
